KR> Oshkosh and nav/engine monitors/iFLYs

2016-07-31 Thread Mark Langford
A few thoughts on OSH this year:

- The KR Forum needs a breath of fresh air, not just me up there
channeling whatever comes to mind about KRs. Next year we'll do
something different, perhaps getting four different KR builders to get
up and tell the stories of their KRs for 15 minutes, or something like
we did a few years ago, four pilots with different engines to talk about
that aspect of flying their planes. We'll think of something.

- I ran into Marty Roberts before the Forum, and he's working with the
new Great Plains Aircraft owners to smooth the transition and improve
customer service, and he's still part of that team. He also spoke a few
minutes at the Forum and handed out GPASC catalogs. My understanding is
that the new guys are A, and are dedicated to improving the products
and carrying on with GPASC.

- Larry Flesner and I flew up to OSH at a fairly steady 148 mph TAS, at
7500'. I was burning about 3.6 gph most of the way, which is 41 mpg.
My trip back AVERAGED 37.3 mpg, which includes taxiing, climbing to
10,500 for the return trip, dodging clouds, rain, and Chicago airspace,
and a fuel stop in Indiana, while doing my usual 145 mph TAS cruise
speed, with a mostly neutral wind (neither head nor tailwind). To me,
that's the strongest attribute the KR has...efficiency. The highest CHT
registered on the flight was 332F, so there's something to be said for
adequate air passages in cylinder heads.

-I used both a Stratux and a Stratus on the way to OSH, and I can tell
you that the Stratux needs an internal fan or it will overheat and
reboot constantly, and the iPAD will shut down due to heat if left in
the sun for a few minutes at a fuel stop on a hot day. Cooling the iPAD
by mounting it in the panel with an air gap and a fan behind a hole on
the backside blowing on it mitigates that problem, so I'm told. The
iLEVEL3 AW that Rob mentioned can apparently transmit serial data from
either a GRT EIS or an MGL RDAC to an iPAD wirelessly, so now it's just
a matter of locating an iPAD app that can display navigation and engine
data at the same time on one screen. I don't recall seeing that yet, so
I'm starting to think I'd need two iPAD minis on the panel to cover
that, or, simply use my trusty old EIS for that kind of data...it works
just fine. The full-size iPAD will also burn lots of battery power and
decrease steadily until it quits, if turned up to full brightness,
despite being plugged into an Apple 3A source. Perhaps sourcing a
higher current power source is the answer to this. I've read the iPAD
Mini's don't have that problem, probably since the screen is so much
smaller. More research is required on all of this.

- IFly GPS's are currently shipped without an anti-glare film over the
insanely glossy touch-screen, and they currently don't have anybody
making them to fit the 720 (and presumably the 740). Their vendor
bailed. So I have ordered three IPAD-2 anti-glare sheets for $5 off
ebay, one of which I'll stick on my iPAD, and the other I'll cut down
for the 720. The glossy screen is ridiculous, IMHO. Also, if you
decide to mount an iFLY 720 vertically on your panel, mount it in front
of or to the left of the pilot, not to the right (like mine). The
screen is polarized such that the brightness level is maybe half as
bright when viewed from the left as it is from directly or the right,
and "portrait" mode only works one way, not the other! Anybody
considering buying the iFLY 720 or 740 should also consider running the
iFLY app on a cheap used iPAD, because it starts instantly, is very
responsive, and is very reliable, not to mention CHEAP! The yearly
subscription is the same either way

KR> Oshkosh ILevil

2016-07-31 Thread Robert7721

One of the Tailwind pilots posted a youtube video of his flight into Oshkosh.
It also shows his panel which uses the ILevil / Ipad set up. Pretty clean panel
setup. Might work well in our KR's. It would certainly save a ton of real
estate behind the panel which is problematic for us. I think I would want a
back up airspeed/alt but it looks like he got the plane certified without them.

Just returned home myself from OSH. Approx 9 hours flight time. 5 up and 4 back
to Kansas City. I did visit the Tailwind fly-in in Watertown WI on the way up.

Most interesting item from this week was the iLevil system coupled to an IPad.
One Tailwind pilot was using this with the IPad for all his flight instruments
- no back up. It has a pitot and static ports as part of the set up.

My KR flew great as usual. Tons of fun was had.

Much thanks to Larry Howell and his wife Gwen for hosting as well!

KR> Oshkosh AirVenture

2013-08-05 Thread Robert7721
Sid,

I hope so. I did spend much of Monday by the plane answering questions to
curious folk.

I was "almost" an Oshkosh airshow performer on Weds. I was invited to fly in
the "Homebuilt Review" on Weds afternoon. There were about 17 home builts in
total. We taxied down to 36L to stage for the fly-bys, but we were cancelled at
the last minute due to high gusting cross winds (20 knots). So we all paraded
back the taxi way to our parking spots. Oh-well.

Much thanks to Larry Howell and his wife for some really great burgers and beer
at Camp Scholar Sunday night.

I departed on Thursday. Great time as usual at Oshkosh.

Thanks,

Rob

Arrived home from Oshkosh on Saturday and just now had the time to make a
posting. To the un-initiated, if you don't think this is a big country, try
driving across it for a few days.
I did manage to get to the KR Forum on Monday morning; had to leave early to
get to my station at the Composites 101 Workshop. I also did the
presentation several times for the Workshop. I have heard it many times and
am a believer: If you want to really learn a topic, try teaching it.
During the week I visited Rob Schmidt's KR a few times. Each visit I would
have to explain how the KR is constructed to other prospective builders who
were checking out the KR. After three visits, two buddies from Texas said
they had decided to build two identical KR-2S aircraft side by side. When
finished they would then flip a coin to determine who would own which
aircraft. Rob, I am sure that your KR has inspired several more builders
beyond these two buddies.

As Sid Wood mentioned, the KR Forum will be Monday the 29th at 8:30 in
Pavilion 4. I'll be the first to admit...that's awfully early! We usually
have it at 1:00 or so, and I got tired of the airshow jets drowning us out,
so I tried to move it up a bit. I got way more than I bargained for, and
will try to move it back to later next year. As usual, I have no real plan
or presentation, but something that's worked great before is to get some
pilots up on stage to answer questions, rather than hearing my same old
slant on things. Larry Flesner will be there for sure (I'm flying in with
him), and I assume Jones will be there, but I'll be asking some builders and
pilots to come up and join us on stage to field questions, or at least field
them from the peanut gallery. One thing I always try to do it point the
folks who've shown up out of curiosity to the KRnet website, and give them a
few minutes of generally positive information regarding the KR airplanes and
the willingness of the community to help others get their planes in the air.

Well written.

I am on the AVID groups net.  This homely little flying machine was made fun

is that a man had a dream, and he fulfilled it.

The A/C is 'ugly' all right, but to me that is the beauty of it, the 'little
man' getting himself something that flies. forget the beauty, forget the
finesse, forget the technology, he wants to fly!  That used to be what the EAA
was all abnout, then it got smothered by the rush to beauty and ever higher
technology.  Now, nobody shows up at Oshkosh with the cheap "little man's"
planes that may not look like something out of science fiction with a $10,000
paint job.  One of my best memories is of meeting a chap with a KR2 who flew
into Oshkosh years ago.  It looked awful, still hade theglass  fabric showing
all over through the obviously cheap paint job, he obviously had functionality
as a priority over pure beauty, but it FLEW HIM TO OSHKOSH and did what he
wanted it to do.  I sort of think this pursuit of pure beauty and
one-upsmanship is a great part of the reason that EAA has become primarily a
millionaires club, the 'little man' flying his cheap
homemade unsophisticated plane that he never intended to be a show-off piece
has been shoved far into the background and scorned..

KR> Oshkosh 365 - Discussion Boards - Kenyan homebuilt -

2010-10-29 Thread Charles Smith
I sort of think this pursuit of pure beauty and
one-upsmanship is a great part of the reason that EAA has become primarily a
millionaires club, the 'little man' flying his cheap homemade unsophisticated
plane that he never intended to be a show-off piece has been shoved far into
the background and scorned..

KR> Oshkosh Forum and Visit

2010-08-21 Thread phillip matheson
Well guys, I just got home from Oshkosh, ( 4 weeks in the USA) All I can say
is WOW. 5 days of walking around Oshkosh and adding to my wish list.

I got a flight on the B17 what a hoot, I have so much video footage and
photos, it will take months to sort them out. I got my USA Pilot Licence
while here and got to do a few hours around Florida with Glenda.

I arrived at the forum just as Mark Langford was starting his talk. It was
great to finally meet some of you guys, Mark Langford, Mark Jones, Joe
Horton,Glenda McElwee, Steve Glover,to name a few. So many names I can not
remember them all. Mark got me up to say a few words to the forum, I hope
the jet lag did not make my talk to confusing.

But I need to say sorry for loosing Mark Jones and many others. Mark, I
wanted to sit down and have a chat with you all, but after a very friendly
welcome, we went out to look at Mark L's plane and everyone just seem to
vanish in the crowd. I asked around, but could not find you guys again. I'm
very sorry.
That was not the sort of talk I was hoping for after travelling so far.

I want to thank Glenda McElwee for her great effect in arranging my stay and
accommodation at Oshkosh. She was great company and friend during my visit.

After Oshkosh I travelled by car with Glenda, via Larry Flesner's hanger
then on to drop off her travelling companion John Michael in Atlanta.and
Flordia. We drove over 2500 miles over the next 3 weeks. Visiting all the
air museums and Space Centre, Fantasy of Flight ( YOU MUST SEE THIS PLACE)
Again WOW.

Larry, thanks for your time and effort to meet us at your airport and show
us your wonderful KR2s. I took heaps of photo's and had a very long talk
about his 0200 set up and flying KR2's. Larry is a true gentleman and again
wish to thank him.

Glenda then took me to see her KR2, while there I was honoured to meet Bill
Clapp. ( I seem to remember a lot of talk about Bill on the net, but I was
able to hear things straight from the horses mouth, seems to much gossip
goes on here sometimes.) Bill has a fantastic and very professional Corvair
Aircraft Conversion Factory. I looked over all areas of this manufacture and
assembly process, his beautiful and fantastic 3rd bearing design. Bill has
now sold many engines. I was lucky enough to take Bills plane for a quick
spin, and I thought I would never hear myself say this, BUT I was VERY
impressed with the performance and smoothness of the engine. I purchased two
new noise reduction head set ant Oshkosh, and was able to test them, but
Bills plane was so quiet I did not even need them. We made a few low passes
with the wheels almost on the ground (so it seemed) at 180+ mph. I would
have believed it, but I had my own GPS with me at the time.

I did meet William Wayne at Oshkosh and looked over his site and engines, It
was difficult to get a word with him as he as very busy,
He seems to also have a good looking engine.
http://www.flycorvair.com/products.html seeing William was so busy I got to
meet Steve Glover again.

So I sat down with Steve Glover and talked KR's, What a great guy!!!, He to
has and great supply of Kr parts, I did happen to pass on some Aussie $$$
for some parts, Hope they arrive here soon. Thanks Steve for your time and
friendship. Steve parts can be found here http://www.nvaero.com/

Speaking of KR2 Parts ..

No one talks about Bill Clapp's engines or 3rd bearings, very strange, I
thought this was a KR2 net and we discussed all areas of the Building,
Flying, building and supply of parts and information. We I'm here to tell
you that its not right when someone like Bill has the technical know how,
the material, and supply of a great product and we do not know or hear about
it. What going on? we should have all the info we need to make up our own
minds as to what engines and parts we can buy, so we can all get on with
finishing the best KR2 we can. So if you wish to find out more check this
out.

  http://www.aeromaxaviation.com/light-aircraft-kits-engine

So I would like to thank Bill for his hospitality and friendship while was
there helping Glenda work on her KR2, We got a lot of jobs finished on her
KR and I hope it has helped get it closer to flying.

Thanks again to Glenda and

to all the guys I meet in the USA, I had a great time, and hope to return
again one day.

If you all get time as you say to call in and see me down under I will need
to start up my own Travel Agency

All the best, Fly safe!!

2010-07-25 Thread Larry
The sun came out all afternoon Saturday and is out now Sunday morning with no
clouds visible at 8:15 am. Things are drying out a little, lots of planes
sitting at other airports on hard surface waiting for grass to dry here enough
for taxi and park. Motorhomes and campers are all over town in parking lots of
closed down stores. These are now EAA campgrounds. There are big sections of
the camp ground that are too wet and muddy to camp in. Big 4 wheel drive
tractors have been dragging some rigs into their camping sites. As I said
before, what a mess but improving and should be a lot better by later this
afternoon.

2010-05-16 Thread phillip matheson
The Aussie's were flying into Oshkosh on 26th in a 747, well we have been
down graded to a 737 due to lack of numbers, but we will still be landing at
Whitman Field around 1200-1300 26th July. ( At least they did not cancel the
entire trip)

Due to the change, we will be spending a night in LA and departing on a US
chartered 737 for Oshkosh. I think we have a 180 aeroplane made passengers.

Hope to meet up with as many of you as possible in my 3 week stay.

I wish to thank Glenda McElwee for all her help in arranging my camping and
travel around your great country. Glenda has been fantastic. I still hope to
do a bit of flying around some of the states, but will know more as we get
closer.

Hope to see you then.

Yep, I knew someone would let the cat out of the bag. And for those who do
not know what Joe means: As I landed at Oshkosh this past Airventure, I was
in front of Joe and Mark Langford, you see they chickened out in the clouds
and did a 360° to restart their approach but that is another story in
itself, anyway as I was rolling out on runway 27 I was directed by the tower
to exit the runway into the grass and as I did so as soon as the mains hit
the grass I sank down in the soft ground to my axles. This left everything
from the main gear back sticking out over the runway so the tower shut down
runway 27 until we cleared the runway. Fortunately that took only about 3 or
4 minutes as several guys came running over and we lifted her and rolled her
onto more solid ground. Yep, I would be willing to bet I am the only KR to
shutdown runway 27 at Airventure.

Hey Phil,
I was on the fence weather I took the trip agian this year, but what ta heck,
if you can stand a 15 hr. flight to get here I guess I can do a 5 hr flight to
meet you. That and the fact that I should be able to hang one of the EAA prop
signs that says this home built has flown ove 500 hrs.should make the trip
worth while. Look foreward to meeting you.

KR> Oshkosh 09

2009-08-01 Thread william Clapp
Howdy folks,  I left out of Valdosta, Ga on Friday at noon and flew up to Mount
Vernon to spend the night.  Got to go out to dinner with Chris (airport manager
for Mt Vernon) and spent the night there at the FBO on their new leather
couches.  Very comfortable.   Left out early in the morning and arriived at
Oshkosh at about noon.   It was uneventful and came straight in without any
trouble or traffic.   Total time in flight was almost 10 hours - cause I flew a
Sonex (corvair powered) instead of the KR.  Boy I missed her on this trip.
This flight reminded me of why I really enjoy the efficiency of that plane.
My guys were already at Oshkosh and helped us set up.   Elaine (my daughter)
came with and we are spending the week at the YMCA - they have hotubs there!
Joe Horton, Mark Langford and Mark Jones flew in and camped out on the field.
Looked a little tight in those tents!   It was good to see them and glad that
they
are flying safely.  Met up with other kr pilots and builders,  and many
friends.   My mom and dad are also here this week promoting MAF (Mission
Aviation Fellowship) since this week in AirVenture's "LIFE FLIGHT" emphasis on
charity and mission organizations.  Saw White Knight Two fly in as well as the
Airbus 380 - WOW!   This has been a cool week already..   Half of my graduating
class from Moody Aviation flight school was here as well so it was light a
reunion party.   I am looking forward to a good rest of the week and a smooth
trip home.  I will post pictures and another update on my website soon for
those who missed this great opportunity.  Oshkosh politics aside I think this
is a great place to come and see and smell and hear aviation history- and its
future.   Burt Rutan quote of the day to all  "Happiness is the key to success"

My five digit membership number attests to the fact that I have been an EAA
member since about 1974. Do I like everything about itNo! Am I happy to
be a member..Yes! I really enjoyed the laid back atmosphere of "Oshkosh"
during the early years, but still heard some complain that "It's not like
Rockford!" Times change and the EAA must keep up. The money that EAA makes
off of "Oshkosh" keeps the organization afloat for the whole year and supports
many programs: such as Young Eagles, EAA Air Academy and KidVenture. It also
funds lobbying and the infrastructure, such as the Museum and grounds that many
of us actually enjoy. It also draws customers to local businesses and chains
like WalMart. Many of whom will tell you they could not exist without the
influx of customers during AirVenture. No EAA exec is drawing a multi-million
dollar paycheck or receiving even more as a golden parachute when retiring.
The money goes back into the organization. If you want a peek at the balance
sheet, I am sure EAA would share that information. It is a non-profit
organization.
Is AirVenture for everyone? ...No! Some would rather be in their
workshop "gettin' er done" or poking holes in clouds than shooting the bull at
the hangar or at an EAA Chapter meeting. Some would rather get as much as they
can for as little as possible from the EAA...and...some would rather give back
by volunteering at Oshkosh, their local EAA Chapter or Mount Vernon. Thank you
Larry F, Mark L, Bob L and all the others who make the KRnet, and KR Gathering
a possibility.
Volunteeringthat's what makes these events possible. I am one of the
selfish ones who volunteers at all of these. Selfish because it gives me a
great feeling that I am contributing to something constructive and it also
gives me a sense of ownership in something that is giving back to me. Those
hundreds of people you see working at AirVenture selling tickets, working
security, directing traffic, clerking at the Wearhouse, working the flightline
or the camping locator booth are volunteers and most are also paying for their
own ticket and camping. Try volunteering! You may be surprised at how much
more you will enjoy and take ownership of an event.or maybe not.
I am thankful each day that we live in a country where WalMart and local
businesses can make a buck selling a shirt, but I am even more thankful for
organizations like EAA (and another 3 letter organization) who cut through the
government red tape, stand up against the opposition and make it possible for
me to enjoy my favorite pastimes. There is no way that one person or
unorganized people can accomplish what EAA and AOPA do in dealing with
government. Without dedicated people who work within flying organizations we
might all spend our time looking to the sky and dreaming about being able to
afford a $300,000+ Cirrus, Bonanza or Mooney instead of flying our own
creations.
So, I guess I will be willing to pay a few bucks extra for a shirt with
the copyrighted name "AirVenture" even though I would prefer it say "Oshkosh"
and I'll probably volunteer next year at Oshkosh and when someone is angry at
EAA and tells me to off! as they leave I'll smile and think, "Isn't this
a great country where we can say as we please and not end up in jail.
I hope Snakebite makes it to 2009 Gathering. We need those fine examples
of planes and knowledgeable builders like Lee V to make this fun and
informative event a success!
Constructive criticism isweller.constructive. Sure would be
nice to see more of that. End of rant! See you at MVN!

As I said before, I'm new to all this and I am so excited that I have the
opportunity to build an aircraft and get a Light Sport ticket. I am not trying
to rankle any feathers of all of you that have been doing this and involved
with homebuilding and EAA for many years. I have a great respect for you and
have so much to learn from you. I have learned so much from Mark Langford's
web site and so many others.

Just think about this... If it weren't for EAA, homebuilders would have no
unified voice with government and no representation with the FAA. Would there
even be a Sport Pilot category if it weren't for EAA? And all of the
workshops, seminars and on-line resources that EAA has. I was very surprised
to discover how big EAA is. Because of its size there are benefits and
drawbacks. I'm sure that "things aren't the way they used to be". Well, times
change. Get over it. In my humble opinion EAA is a very wonderful
organization that I am proud to support. There is so much good being done for
so many aspects of aviation. If you are not happy with the direction the
organization is taking why not try to use your experience and influence to make
a positive change instead of complaining and quitting? Just don't expect to
get your own way all the time.

Just my "new-guy" perspective.

I have never been to Oshkosh but I do intend to go some day/year. I have been
to Sun-N-Fun several times and will continue to go, maybe not every year but I
will return because aviation, to me, is much more than just a KR. 2009 will be
my 10th year coming to the KR gathering. My KR is not y et flying and I have to
say I learn something new each time I go to the gathering. The first few years
was to learn about KR but now it is more people and the friends I have made
over the years that continues to draw me to the gathering. The KR is a
wonderful airplane but the people who build and fly the KR are great people and
fun to be around.

Lee's post has been mulling in my mind for the last two day and I'm
not sure I can
give an adequate response but here goes.

The KR community operates on the financial fringe of the sport
aviation spectrum.
It would be nice if we all had the time and money to attend the worlds largest
aviation event and spend the entire week. Unfortunately most of us
have neither
the time or money to do so. Oshkosh has grown to the size it is
because it meets
the needs / wishes of hundreds of thousands of people world wide. Even if you
think it has outgrown what we wish it to be, you have to admit that a
great deal
of the advancement in sport aviation that we enjoy today came out of Oshkosh.
I've not attended for at least twenty years now but the fact is that
it draws people
, aircraft, and vendors that you will see nowhere else. Many companies and
vendors schedules revolve around Oshkosh. It can't be everything to everyone.

As for the KR Gathering, this will be my twentieth consecutive year
to attend and
acting as host since 2004. I think everyone will admit that we enjoyed Lee's
participation when he was able to attend. To say it is strictly a
social event not
only misses the bulls eye but misses the entire target. The social aspect is
certainly a huge part of the Gathering as many of us get to see each other only
once a year and it gives us a chance to catch up on relationships
that were born
at previous Gatherings.

To make my point, I think Lee is forgetting the many hours spent on
the flight line
with KR's opened for inspection, picture taking, questions answered
by the builders,
and assisting fliers with problems that developed far from
home. Then there are
the hours spent by builders pouring over photo albums and getting ideas for
there project back home, exchanging and selling parts and projects, and the
several forums held to answer builders question. Stick time is given
to the lucky
few that can get it prior to making the first flight of their own
project or in some
cases rides given to wives and girlfriends of builders to help
"grease the skids"
of their project back home. Last but not least is the motivation
factor the Gathering
injects directly into the blood stream of builders as they see the KR's making
high speed passes round and round the pattern.

And if that were not enough, there is still the social
aspect. Setting around the
campfire in the evening enjoying the "root beer", the talk is still
more KR's !!

I am a bit puzzled by Lee's comment "I would have a good time flying to a CX4
group deal if BOB G would be there". That sounds to me like he would attend
strictly for the social aspect of the event. Why then condemn Airventure and
the Gathering for being strictly "social events"?

I hope Lee's comments were strictly the result of a bad weather day when he
couldn't fly his KR and that we see him at future Gathering.

Have a good day...

Larry Flesner

If you didn't like what Lee had to say, why did you re-post the whole
thing?

I didn't understand some of Lee's post but I got the general idea and I'm
in complete agreement that EAA as an organization are the greediest bunch
of b I've ever come across since I left Africa. They'd charge
for the air you breathe there if they could. After my last Oshkosh
experience I too have not re-newed my membership and never intend to
unless I someday decide to attend Oshkosh again and have to to get in the
gate. It is a great show.

As for T-shirts. If you go into town and hit the Wal-Mart, you'll find
some very nice ones, (with pockets even!) for ten bucks. I'm not
kidding. They have some great graphics on the back and on the pocket it
says "Oshkosh Fly-In with the year. I bought six or seven of them and
gave them away as gifts when I got home. I wouldn't be surprised if EAA
hasn't pressured Wal-Mart to stop selling them since it cuts into EAA's
profits, but hopefully Wal-Mart told 'em to f*** off. Those were my last
words to EAA when I left.

It is really too bad that you feel the need to get on a public forum and bitch
about such a great aviation event. After reading your rant I can't help but
quote the old saying, "If you can't say something nice or constructive do the
rest of us a favor and just keep quiet!".

I am very new to the homebuilding community and this was my first trip to
Oshkosh. I was in awe. I loved it... everything about it. I am so glad that
EAA puts on an event that is all encompassing to the small aviation market.
There would be so much missing if there were limits as you suggest. I can only
guess that you would prefer to not have any military aircraft there also.

So now that you have decided to never go back to AV, perhaps you can do the
rest of us a favor and keep the reasons to yourself too.

Dwight Hapeman

I think it would be GREAT if we spent the majority of he year planning on
attending Oshkosh, WI airshow, aka AIRVENTURE, to have the planes that did fly
in there spend the week rather than depart on day 2 on a 7 day week. I have
been to several Airventures over the past 35 + years. That brings me to
another issue, you have a hard time finding a shirt in the VENTURE with the
name Oshkosh on it. Due to the venders have to have EAA approve it to be sold
on property. From what I know Oshkosh WI is a city, and EAA Airventue is an
EVENT. How can EAA prevent a vender from putting Oshkosh on a Tee Shirt. From
all of the threads on this site in the past few weeks/months every reference to
the event going on in WI right now has been OSHKOSH not
AIRVENTURE. I lost my motivation for OSH/AV last year when I rode a bike
to cover my plane before a rain storm, and I was out of wind before I got out
of the commercial area. What letter of EAA stands for Certified aircraft.
I was the web host for my local chapter. I let somebody else take over and I
did not re-enlist my membership with EAA . It took 2 years to get AOPA to
stop sending me shit. I flew 2 days to go to Oshkosh / Air ventue to have them
give me a glass and have to pay to park my plane at a show that was about
homebuilts. And what really sucks is people live so close to the area, only
stay for a day or 2 and go home. We talk about it most of the year and then it
is gone in a day or 2. I remember my dad meeting Ken back in the days and
getting a set of plans from HIM. now you send in a check and hope. OSH
booth no way. Mark L has had a forum for several years at A/V. How many
sets of plans were sold there 0.00

I informed Bob Glidden last year that I would never go back to A/V. I will fly
back to MI or even a gathing or 2 maybe. I would have a good time flying to a
CX4 group deal if BOB G would be there. A gathering is meeting with people and
looking at planes you are building. not just a social event. OSHKOSH is now
a commercial event and the Gathering has become a social event. I think
changing the location will get people sparked about building the KR and FLYING
to the event rather that driving, or flying comm to a camp out at a / root beer
fest. I may change my mind when I see more than Jeff Scott and Steve Glover
show up to Copper State EAA . in October.

Im sorry if this post is depressing or hits t close to home for some
people, but it is the way I feel.

That's easy to figure out Mark, first you cralled over to Langford's KR.
Being the only taildragger in the group it was the logical choice for you to
climb up the tail wheel, push the rudder aside and roll onto the horizontal
stab. From there it's just like getting out of bed.

KR> Oshkosh 2009

2009-07-25 Thread STEVE bennett

To the KR Net, Netters

Arrived at OSH on Friday afternoon. Cool weather. Great sleeping weather.
Dropped into the high 50's at night. Saturday a small shower came through on
the PM. Dropped temps from 75F to 64F. Supposed to be in the high 50's this
PM. Bring a COAT this year for the evening if the trend continues. Was very
windy today. Sustained winds to 22 mph with gusts. Most aircraft landing on
27? To the west.

No KR's here as of today. Lot's of RV's. The four buildings and the 18-36
buildings are all in the same area, but much else is re-arragned. Fly market
and Aero Market are now south of Bldg. D. New light sport area is in old fly
market area. The Aircraft display area where Zenith used to display, is very
different. Have not seen where Zenith is displaying this year, not in their
usual place across from Sonex. Have not seen where Van's is at also. So far
not in usual place.

Camp ground filling in fast. Showers out by US41 now have flush toilets in
them! Don't know about the rest of the showers.

If you expect ultralights, you will be disappointed. The configuration of the
ultralight area only allows for about 20 vendors. As of today there were 2 in
the ultralight area. Rumor has it they offered the area for half price to get
some vendors there. Don't know if it is true, but is based on reliable source.
Ultrslight business has been hit hard by both the economy and the light sport
pilot license over the last 3 years.

2009-07-18 Thread Solly Melyon
Hello Dave,
I'd like to meet with you and discuss with you several options.   We may be
very helpfull to you in completing your Super2S as our aircraft was developed
with the improvements in as the Jeff Scott's Super 2S.  We however, took it
several steps forward with very obvious and huge benifits to the builder.
Please look at our web page:  www.aeromaxaviation.com

Aeromax aviation was formed for the purpose of offering aviation enthusiasts
like yourself, a better option than a KRsuper2S for approx. the same cost as it
would cost you to build a high quality KR super2S.  The company was founded by
Myself and Mr. bill Clapp who is well known around the KR2 builders as one of
the most knowledgeable and experienced builder.  I myself owned Pulsar Aircraft
Corporation between 1999 -2005.  Bill and myself took all of our experience and
put together an aircraft  design that will combine the quality of a Super
Pulsar aircraft at a KR2S price range
You'll benefit by saving huge amount of time as our airplane takes only
600 hours to build, compared to a couple of thousand hours to build a KRsuper2S.

We can supply you with a Composite Fuselage Boat / Turtle deck / front deck /
Spars / Wing skins / Ribs / WAFs / Horizontal and many more parts that we are
fabricating from our CNC molds.

It will be interesting to meet and talk with you.  If you need a pass to get in
let me know and I'll provide you with one for that day.
We are at Booth 662 North Aircraft Display area.

Are the West Coast guys (Steve Glover, Rich Shirley, Lee VanDyke) planning
oncoming? How about Mark Langford? Haven't heard any chatter from him
lately. Is he in-country or across the pond? I'm trying to get a pop-up
camper, but if not we will be pitching tents.

Hello Pete and Netter's

I was hoping to make it to OSH but things are crazy trying to get the new
company up and running. We already have orders and some other surprises in
the works. I am intending on making the Gathering and we are hoping we have
things far enough along to demonstrate our "Box to Boat" fast build kit in
September.

Ok, I can't take it anymore...I've been dying to let everyone know but
didn't have everything locked on until now. I should have fresh CNC'd cores
for constructing our wing skin mold for the NEW KR AS5046 airfoil here soon!
This will be built similar to the Diehl skins with a foam core. If anyone
is interested in a set of these skins, please let me know. We will take
deposits once the mold is completed and the first production set has been
pulled with satisfactory results.

If anyone still would like to build their own wings and sand all that foam,
Mark has given us permission to provide you with an accurate set of AS5046
templates to build from. They are currently still available on Mark's site
but some people have difficulty having them printed. We will provide them
at $50 per set. A portion will go to Mark in appreciation for all he has
done for the KR community.

We will be offering our brew of dual stick assemblies similar to Mark
Langford's, as well as electric speed brake/ flap kits, and a push tube
conversion kit for the ailerons.

There is too much going on to list here but I can tell you it is just the
beginning!

Hi all,

I've been a lurker here for a month or two. I'm considering a KR2S, but am
not sure that I'd fit comfortably. I'd love to meet some of your KR owners
and maybe get a chance to try one on for size.

Anyone going to Oshkosh who wouldn't mind giving me a quick KR2 tour?

2009-07-09 Thread greg fisher
Dave,

I know of five KRSuper2 builders that will be at Oshkosh. I think all are
planning on using the Corvair. They are myself, Chris Anderson, Paul
Fincato,
David McCauley and Ted Sanders. Scott Watts can not make it this year, but
passed these names on to me. Let us meet at the KR Forum on Monday and
compare notes afterward. Bring Pictures of your progress!!

Are there any other KRSuper2 builders going to Oshkosh? Anyone else
interested in talking with us?

I am planning on taking lots of pictures of engine installations.

I was at Corvair college #13, it was a blast. Mark from Falcon was there and
was a great hands on help. I got my case closed up and have since installed
my Dan 5th bearing.

See you soon,

Greg

Hello Willie,
There will be several KR pilots and builders there. Generally speaking, The
first half of the week is when you will find the most KR people and KR
planes. I know of at least four KR planes that will be there during the
first half of the week as most will fly in a day or two before the actual
opening date. Also, the KR forum is an excellent place to meet pilots and
builders and the forum is usually on Monday or Tuesday. Hope to get to meet
you as I will be there beginning either Saturday or Sunday.

I am saving to go to Oshkosh this year and would like to know who ells, on
the KR list will be there. Will there be any KR2 planes to look at? I would
really like to meet some of the Builders an Pilots. Hope the Rand Dollar
exchange rate holds (or improve more). Today it is R8.25:$1. The last time I

I had previously announced an open invitation to all KR Pilots to join up at my

my invitation due to personal reasons. I sincerely hope this does not cause any

The closest place to sleep is 100 miles away. These guys are serious; they
reserve a year (or more) in advance. You can still go, fly in, but expect to
fly out... contact them, they like home built planes, after all; that's what
EAA is all about.

Mark,
Last year we had six KR's at Airventure. Did you not see them? Five of us
flew in together and another showed up later. We all camped out right there
on the EAA grounds. It is never too late if you really want to go.

The last 8 trips to Oshkosh were planed the day before
I left.My last trip I called a friend Thursday am an
said lets go now. We stayed Friday and Sat. and flew
back to Dallas on Sunday. When you arrive there are
bulletin boards around with phone # of places to stay.
They also can help you at the sigh in desk or bring a
sleeping bag and tent. They have very good showers and
things on the field. One important thing to bring is
MONEY. Before you arrive get notoms Fly to Ripon keep
you mouth closed listen and follow directions. It is
not that hard.
