Yes Rodrigo ... you can blame the manager for poor tactics but when you're losing every battle and putting your team under pressure with every misplaced / poor backwards pass then that aint going to help. Re: [LU] Chelsea
no shots on goal Raph and Rodrigo hardly ever got the ball facing the opposition goal No one got behind the Chelsea defence - overlapping runs down the wings or through the middle this 4-2-2-2 - play it narrow system - seems to forget that the middle of the pitch is usually the most heavily populated bit of the pitch. You can’t just waltz through it. There seems to be some idea that the ball will go wide, someone will peel off and flick it back inside to a team mate running up the middle…it doesn’t work. For pretty much the first time in 4 years, I wondered why I bothered going - i had little hope before hand, and zero coming away. We were given joy through football under Bielsa and its gone, well and truly. Our main hope now lies on Burnley managing to secure minus points from a game. Stay up or go down, anyone good in that squad will leave. Phillips looked absolutely lost yesterday. Admittedly some of it may be down to fitness, I’m not convinced he is fully recovered. Marsch has been and is a disaster. He has managed to drain all the confidence and Bielsa swagger out of the players. He has marginally improved the defence in that we are conceding slightly smaller hatfuls of goals in a different way - opposition players don't get to just waltz through wide open spaces anymore, they have to actually construct attacks against a set defence before scoring. But we are incapable of retaining possession so the pressure on the marginally improved defence is incessant and it is bound to crack. We can't get the ball out of our half! When Meslier gets the ball, he either passes it short, in which case we play 3 or if we're lucky 4 nice little triangle passes and then lose it on the halfway line, or he chips it into midfield where we either lose the first ball or lose the second ball. Marsch is very similar in one respect to another glib charlatan, Boris Johnson. Just as the pandemic and the war have given Johnson the opportunity to mask the disastrous effects of his insane plan to take the country out of the EU, so injuries and ridiculous red cards allow Marsch to mask the disastrous effects of his "coaching." Re: [LU] Chelsea
For possibly the first time under Bielsa, I think we are putting out the best team we can, given our personnel. The players who infuriated me week after week (e.g. Costa) are finally out of the starting lineup. Yes, what remains isn't going to win the league, but with Bielsa's magic touch I'm confident that they're good enough to be mid-table in this league, which is good enough for me, this year. Re: [LU] Chelsea
Can't disagree with anything there. Chelsea looked much better than anything I have seen from this season. Nick On Sunday, December 6, 2020, 06:05:21 AM EST, Nick wrote: Hard not to agree that Chelsea were better than us in most aspects of the game - whereas Leicester soaked up pressure and sucker-pinched us with speed and skill (rope-a-dope) - Chelsea showed basically what our system looks like with better quality players. Cooper, Alioski, Dallas, Klich, Harrison (and perhaps Ayling…) all looked this was the level that was just beyond them. Which is harsh given how superb all have been for the last 2 or 3 years, and given the improvement that each has seen in their own game. We’ve seen that these guys can make it happen to a level just around the European qualification mark but that to be truly pushing at the top we can’t have that many players out of 11 not quite making it. All of which sounds like damning them, it is not meant to, I have been stunned by how much better our team and these individuals have got in the last 26 months - and how much I have enjoyed watching us play, for the first time since O’Leary really - and if we finish where we are now in the league, the fact that that would feel like a small disappointment tells you how far we’ve come - but in the end there are limits to what training and coaching will achieve, especially against bottomless wallets. Bamford’s goal was absolutely top drawer - the pass out of defence, Phillips’ first time ball (I have rarely seen a better weighted pass, and with his ‘wrong' foot), and the first touch and the finish - he still had work to do to get the finish right. Yes, their keeper made a strange decision. No stranger than their winger who somehow cleared that ball off our goal line via the crossbar a few minutes later. It felt like we were in the game for the first hour, but their second goal really did for us - they apparently score a lot from corners - the delivery is good and that time Zouma absolutely dominated the box for that header. A bit like Liverpool’s second, and like that one, there were bodies tumbling in box in the path of the onrushing goalscorer - it looks like American football, where teams chuck in blockers to clear a path for the quarter back - hard to tell if it is a tactic or just luck - either way we need to be tougher and cannier when defending set pieces. I thought we struggled down our left all game - which may be the result of their right back, James, who really was something else - but as Rich says, we’re playing someone out of position at left back…and Cooper is at his limit. We may be better with 3 CHalfs and 5 across the middle, if we can’t find a good full back. I thought Llorente did OK in what were difficult circumstances for him - when fit, I see him and Koch as the natural CHalf pairing. We do have to find a place for Rodrigo to start, he gives a muscularity and drive that we seem shy of, when pushing forward. Raphina did OK when he was in the game…and could very well have got us a second with that shot and rebound in the second half, but we didn’t get the ball to him enough. We commented after about 55 minutes that names we hadn’t heard from the commentators anything like as much as we normally do were Dallas, Klich, Harrison…which shows that our midfield was second to pretty much everything. I dislike Frank Lampard just a little bit more now. I just don't buy in to the we cannot criticise the team and players argument. That's what being a fan is all about. Yes, I think all of us appreciate that it's going to be tough season. A lot of that team that turned out yesterday have in some way struggled in the lower league - Dallas, Phillips, Cooper, Klich, Bamford so it goes without saying that the transformation has been incredible. However, as a fan now I'm looking to see who are the players who can complete that transformation and perform with the best of them in the PL. So when the game completely passes Philips by, like it did in the 2nd half I'm going to call it. Especially when I think Philips is at best a decent championship midfielder. Also, how can these players who are struggling a bit keep an established international striker out of the team ? It's crazy to play Dallas in an advanced midfield role rather than Rodriguez and whilst Bielsa is a genius we're not far from the relegation zone and fans have a right to say what they think. Doesn't make them less of a fan. II love watching Leeds at the moment however I'm not going to go through the season keeping quiet when outplayed because hey, we have a team of championship players that are over performing and doing their best. So get a grip and stay on Twitter with Bielsa is God crowd if you don't like what you read. I think you’re not taking it in the spirit intended, certainly by me at any rate. I love the way we are playing and the players doing it, but there’s no harm in recognising a bit of reality when you see it - all in context. Of course I’ll take 17th. About the only thing I’d add is some focus on Meslier’s very questionable distributions. Bottom line: we were soundly outplayed and roundly outclassed by a team that will be in Champion’s League late rounds even if they don’t win it. That should not be terribly surprising. We will get there but couldn’t see there from here yesterday. Re: [LU] Chelsea
Totally agree that for perhaps only the 2nd time under Bielsa ( the other was WBA away 2 seasons ago - 4 0 ) we were comprehensively beaten. Pretty much every other defeat has been undeserved or at least close in terms of play. Yesterday we met an excellent team at the top of their game. The stat I heard was that their sub keeper actually cost £30m more than our total starting XI. Whilst money does not count for everything in football it certainly helps. Brilliant coaching can only take you so far and it is very difficult when every one of their players was better than our corresponding playerWe knew there would be days like this and I was pleased with the way we stuck to the task and our footballing philosophy, so much so that had VAR worked we would have had penalty at 1 2 with only minutes to go (albeit a point would have been robbery)For a team fighting to stay up, and that is what we are, it is the results against other bottom half teams that will define our season and not the likes of Chelsea away. Indeed Chelsea, according to the club was a free hit - they wanted 3 pts from Arsenal, Everton and Chelsea, and since we already had 4 pts it was job done. I think the next 5 games will really let us know how the season will go, west ham, Newcastle, Burnley and west brom are all winnable and scum could go either way Shelf U, have just lost again as have west brom ( plus Fulham) so only Burnley with one point have gained any ground DavePS anyone know what Chelsea fans squealing at Llorente was all about? On Sunday, 6 December 2020, 14:45:31 GMT, seanscribe--- via Leedslist wrote: I agree with most of this. In this regard I think that the impact of Berardi's injury in the penultimate game of the season has been underestimated. Statistically we actually do better with Berardi in the team, and, like White, he's thoroughly schooled in the Bielsa system. It seems to be very difficult for new signings to just step into a Bielsa team, even if they have the required physical fitness. Cooper's injury on Scotland duty and Llorente's with Spain have further complicated matters. This is probably part of the reason why we are so vulnerable at set pieces. I also agree that we need to put our spending this summer to better use on the field. How many promoted sides keep their club's record signing on the bench? He's Spain's centre-forward, he should be starting. All that being said, I expect (and fervently hope) that we'll see a reaction against West Ham. Cheers! It is easy to criticise, and probably futile, but I was pretty glad Philips has no pace a couple of times, as he was clearly looking frustrated and wanted to clatter someone, but he wasn’t quick enough. I don’t know why he was pushed so far up the pitch, but Chelsea did a job on him after minute 4. I think it is now time for Marcello to consider the conundrum between not changing your players, and playing our best xi. Loyalty is great etc, but to progress we have to build a team around our best players, meaning Llorente and Rodrigo should be starting and we should play with a left back at left back. My other ‘worry’ is that we have gone from a team who regularly play some of our young uns, to ‘experience is all’. I would rather have Struijk gaining game time, than Cooper and his predictability. I would rather see Davis in, and I still think Shackleton should be in, maybe at Klich’s expense. Also, if Jack Harrison cannot cross, there is a decision to be made re him, Poveda and Raphina! Is Hernandez injured by the way? We needed some guile and having him come off the bench might have helped. When we all said at the start of the season that there would be days like this and acted all philosophical about it then, it still doesn’t make it any more palatable when it happens! Re: [LU] Chelsea
Hard not to agree that Chelsea were better than us in most aspects of the game - whereas Leicester soaked up pressure and sucker-pinched us with speed and skill (rope-a-dope) - Chelsea showed basically what our system looks like with better quality players. For the first time this season we were comprehensively outplayed, outfought and outrun (apparently !) in that 2nd half. Chelsea have quality players all over the park who have time on the ball and were able to side step our terrier like defences and create chance after chance. I've never seen Klich look so out of his depth and as for Philips in that 2nd half, well he just couldn't play against that level. No shame in that though, these are top, top players and when you lose your best defender in the opening part of the game then it's always going to be difficult. I thought we matched them in the first half and started brightly with a great left footed pass from Philips through to Bamford who still had a lot to do. He sidestepped the keeper and calmly slotted home but what the hell was the keeper doing ? He made it really easy for Bamford and if Chelsea had a weakness last night I thought it was their keeper. We caused them problems especially down our right with Raphinha looking lively again. Unfortunately, Harrison on the other wing was having one of those days where he shows us his knack of being able to pick out nobody with a great overhit cross. Harrison has improved beyond recognition over the past 12 months but I feel he's struggling at this level at the moment and I think it is time to give someone else a chance. Here's my scores: Miesler - 7. Kept the score sensible with some great saves however I can't help feeling that our set piece problem which has returned massively is in some part down to him. Ayling - 7. I thought he did well generally. Allioski - 5. They had too much space down our left. He's not a defensive left back so we are going to struggle against the better teams. You can't get away playing defenders who are not that good at defending. Koch - 5. Not on long enough. It was obviously a gamble to play him. Cooper - 7. Possibly his best game this season which seems strange given he fell over for the 2nd goal and we looked like conceding 5 or 6 in the 2nd half. Overall, I thought he held us together (just) at the back. Klich - 5. Looked tired 2nd half or maybe just bemused. Was totally ineffective. Philips - 4. Started really lively and I thought maybe Everton wasn't a one-off but he crumbled and in the second half he looked like a schoolboy amongst men. Harrison - 2. Really poor. Raphinha - 6. Great first half but hardly touched the ball in the 2nd apart from one double chance which would have been spectacular had it gone in. Bamford - 7. Good goal and worked hard. Subs: Llorente - 5. I thought he was at fault for their first goal. Stood there with his arm up asking for offside rather than getting in front of the Chelsea player. He did however show some promise and for me he looks like a prospect. Rodrigo - 6. Gave the ball away a couple of times but he looks sharp and he looks like he's got time on the ball. In fact, he looked like a Chelsea player. If Bielsa can't find a system that places Rodrigo at the heart of everything we do then he's not the God we thought. Re: [LU] Chelsea away
Well said, Oystein. Bielsa and his team will no doubt rewatch the game and figure out why Chelsea enjoyed so much possession in the second half, why we seem to be so vulnerable at set pieces, and why Kalvin was so much less effective (other than his extraordinary assist) than he was against Everton. I expect us to come back stronger against West Ham. And I do feel that the loss of Ben White and subsequent inability to get a settled pair at the center of defense has been our biggest challenge this season. But I heard a pertinent factoid earlier today: the keeper Chelsea had on the bench cost more than our entire starting XI. That says it all, really. If we can stay up this season, and then buy wisely and well next summer, we can start to dream. Cheers! [LU] Chelsea
Two ways of looking at this match / result. First, it was a stuffing and a humiliation. Second, we matched them for half the game and played some good footy. I’ll go with the second opinion and when Chelsea bring on a 30 million pound player as a sub you realise that we’re talking about a different world. I thought we fought hard, we made them make mistakes and more importantly when we had the ball we used it pretty well. Some of our midfield play was good and the movement from Thomas, Diouf and Green was impressive. At the back I thought both central defenders did well. I’m not going to go through the full game , you all watched it. Here’s my scores (I’m only including up to their 2nd goal because after that it was game over and our heads went down). Ashdown – 8. Ok, their equaliser was a mistake but he’d made half a dozen top class saves prior to that and continued to make saves after. I like the look of him. Peltier – 5. Massively uncomfortable on the left. I don’t think he’s happy and he’s our captain. Need to sort something out here. Byram – 7. I thought he did well, but again I would have loved to see him more involved and getting forward from midfield. Pearce – 8. I thought he really defended well. Lees – 8. Again I thought he was strong. I’m liking the look of this lad, I think he’s come on in the last few months. Brown – 7. He was given the job of being an annoying little bugga. I was watching him closely and he was mouthing off, niggling, elbowing, fouling. It worked for 45 mins. Tonge – 8. I thought he played really well and stepped up his from his usual contribution. Very creative. Thomas – 8. I thought he really gave them the runaround. His cross for the goal was spectacular. Green – 8. Lively throughout, not much end product but really put a shift in. Diouf – 7. Was lively and really tried to make things happen, I just think he needs some pace around him. Becchio – 6. Thought he took his goal like a proper striker and I agree it wasn’t that easy although unmarked 6 yards out you would expect. I thought he worked hard, got stuck in and unsettled them at times. Having said that I think it’s low expectations again, he was too slow, he creates nothing, he needs it handing on a plate, he makes controlling a simple ball a real effort and he has not pace – Tonge played a lovely ball through to him and he just didn’t have the legs to get on it, then a simple one two was asked of him and he just prodded it to a Chelsea player – groans all round. Every goal is delaying the inevitable. Just not good enough. Somma was on the bench. Chelseafans – I thought they were funny (for once) – after Leeds fans had sung “You’re just a fat Spanish waitor” they repeated it. They also sang “Are you Saville in disguise ?” to Neil Warnock. And then sang a 10 minute song about paedos at Elland Road and went through the list “Michael Jackson, Arsene Wenger, Jimmy Saville … “ The Kop sang “4-1 and you still don’t sing” – believe me they were louder than the Kop from the East Stand. For me it lacked the atmosphere of an old Chelsea match – I had a Chinese couple in front of me who just took photies for the full 90 mins. Brown is a horrible niggly slow bastard. Can't stand him. From: Jeremy Adams jeremyadam...@hotmail.com To: Leeds List leedslist@gn.apc.org Sent: Wednesday, December 19, 2012 9:19 PM Subject: [LU] Chelsea I missed the last goal but overall I think the 5-1 scoreline flattered them a little. Sure they deserved the victory but not by that much. First half they were the better team but we battled hard, seemed to miss Tate in central defence but overall we did a good job and Ashdown in goal was equal to whatever they threw at us. Then a great pas by Byram? put Thomas free on the left and he delivered an inch perfect pass to Becchio who scored probably the best goal I've ever seen him score. That was not an easy finish. Second half they equalised right away with a soft goal though Ashdown had made some great saves beforehand to keep us in the game so I can't fault him too much. I was actually quite pleased with our response to that equalizer, we didn't give up and I felt we gave them a right go at that point. Then they went 3-1 up in the blink of an eye and then it was game over, we lost heart and Warnock did too, he took off Thomas and Diouf to (hopefully) rest them. They knew it w as game over, we tried to press and then got caught for the fourth goal. Fifth goal I missed so don;t know how that happened. Positives - Byram had a good game, Ashdown did well except for the one goal. Thomas was a threat, and I thought Tonge was solid and Lees did a good job. Our team did pretty well against the second most expensively assembled side in the world, this wasn't Chelsea second team, they had some serious heavyweights in there and as somebody pointed out they had around 130M in firepower up front. Negatives - Peltier is out of his depth at premiership level, he got pulled all over the place. Brown is an enforcer but is otherwise rubbish, my Chelsea supporting brother was actually quite impressed with Leeds' overall play, except for Brown, and agreed 1-5 was a flattering scoreline. My only concern from this game is that after working so hard and doing pretty well for 60 minutes, we'll be demoralised by the thrashing. All in all for the 80 odd minutes I saw I feel I can hold my head up high by the effort Leeds put in. Agree but that's what we needed last night. First 45 minutes Brown rattled Mata and was pretty effective. It was never going to last. [LU] Chelsea reflections
Sad but almost inevitable outcome really. My only real disappoinment was that Torres scored..just seconds after I said to the cat Well, at least Torres hasn't scored. What a great goal though (ours, I mean!) The pass from Thomas was superb, and the finish simply magnificent. When I first saw it, I thought he had scuffed it in off his ankle, but noon a greasy wet pitch, to control that ball and place it so perfectly with one touch was...well, from Becchio, nothing less than astounding! Somma on the bench.that was a nice thing to see. I was very impressed by Tonge, Brown, Green, Lees Pearce. In Doha now, but I'll be at the Boro match on Satdy...can't wait! ___ Leedslist mailing list Info and options: http://mailman.greennet.org.uk/mailman/listinfo/leedslist To unsubscribe, email leedslist-unsubscr...@gn.apc.org PETE CASS (1962 - 2011) Rest In Peace Mate

Re: [LU] chelsea
I'm surprised it's just me that thinks the person who has instructed a bunch of chancer wannabe bankers (apparently sic) to hog any and all opportunities of buying Leeds could be none other than a Mr. Kenneth B. of some parish or other. I was going to put 2,5M into the club over the summer - 1/2M in fees to keep the supporters and the manager off my back for a year and 2M that in a climate of hope will be paid back before Xmas. Or should I have kept to my resolution never to read postings by Dr. M ;) Damian On Thu, Nov 1, 2012 at 7:02 PM, Leeds List forzale...@aol.com wrote: From what we all know about Kenneth I... go out of Leeds on the back ... ___ Leedslist mailing list Info and options: http://mailman.greennet.org.uk/mailman/listinfo/leedslist To unsubscribe, email leedslist-unsubscr...@gn.apc.org PETE CASS (1962 - 2011) Rest In Peace Mate

Do you seriously think that Bates and GFH are one and the same? Christ Id not even thought about that. That would be probably the most depressing thing.
