iTunes syncing selected podcasts
Sorry if this has been talked about in the past. I just realized today that I can't select certain podcasts to sync. So I have my podcasts set to sync selected podcasts. Then you see this table with all your podcasts that you would check if you want it to sync and uncheck if you don't. For some reason, VoiceOver would only read the name of the podcast, but does not specify any controls. When I interact with the name of the podcast, I get a dimmed check box. Pressing VoiceOver Space doesn't change anything. If my setting is set to sync selected podcasts, why are the checkboxes dimmed? Has anyone found a way around this? Would appreciate any help with this. Thanks. -- You received this message because you are subscribed to the Google Groups MacVisionaries group. Re: Growl Skype Status Messages.
Hi Geoges and Kliphton! If you get Skype 5. something! Growl will come along with it! And should install itself! Another software you might find useful is Adium! Re: Vuescan a disappointment for OCR
Hello Ray, As I already pointed out, VueScan does not take care of orientation, unlike ABBYY FineREader. You can use Cmd-L to rotate left, or Cmd-R to rotate right. However, from what you say, I think the document is upside down, in which case either Cmd-L twice or Cmd-R twice should fix the issue. As for TextEdit opening automatically, it isn't doing that for me either. Re: Flashdrive for Christine
Oh, I know. Thing is, first time I went to my music folder and copied, it said 430 items which was correct, but it didn't paste correctly. So I went to my media folder where I've got a lot of things saved that aren't on my iPhone any more, just in my media folder, and tried there. Here, there were 247 items, and it worked. I cannot figure out why that folder worked, but the other, larger, more recent material did not. There's plenty of room on the flash drive, so it's not a space issue. I'm stymied. I'll probably just try again later or tomorrow. I'm finding the whole transferring files thing much more difficult on the Mac than on Windows, but I'll get there. I will never return to Windows. Some VueScan results and observations
Firstly, thanks to Anne R for posting her VueScan settings and to Sandy T for setting a good example of tenacity when it comes to mastering a scanning / OCR application. I've spent some time with Vuescan now and am liking the results so far. I'm using the 64 bit trial on a 1.6GHZ MBA with 4GB ram, SL, and a USB connected HP Photosmart C6150. Upon first launch of the Vuescan app it automatically recognized my HP Photosmart. While entering Anne's suggested settings I noticed I had a few additional options which I assume are unique to each different scanner model. One of my input options was to select either Flatbed or Doc Feeder as this device has a document feeder on top of the lid covering the flatbed. I know from experience that the scanning hardware associated with the doc feeder does not produce nearly as high quality scans as the flatbed, but I decided to try the doc feeder first just to see if it might be acceptable. It quickly scanned a 3 page document and created my target RTF file, but the text was garbage. I then closed and relaunched Vuescan, went back through the settings and this time chose flatbed, and the results were very good. I tried a few pages from various types of printed material and they all gave similar results. I've pasted below what I think was probably the most challenging document. It's a page from an insurance policy that was faxed to me. I've replaced all sensitive info with xxx but all of the replaced text, including policy numbers and dollar amounts, had been interpreted correctly by the OCR engine. BTW- TextEdit did not automatically launch for me either, as others have noted, and when I installed the demo of BBEdit and set it as the editor of choice, it too did not open automatically. I imagine this is a small bug that the developer can easily fix in a future update. Re: Flashdrive for Christine
Hi Christine: At the risk of sounding archaic, you might just go ahead and burn a CD from iTunes, and .:) It would be a lot fewer headaches. The fact that you got half of your music to copy makes it seem as though a reformat isn't the answer. Carolyn On Jun 13, 2011, at 7:55 AM, Christine Grassman wrote: Darn. You can tell if it's the hard drive on your Mac verses the flash drive by how big it is. Once you find it there should be an option to format it. Windows VM slowing to a crawl
Hello List: I am noticing on my system that my Windows VM under Fusion tends to slow to a crawl after using it for a while. I have it set up to use one processor core and 2 GB of ram. I am running Windows 7/64. What is the best version of Windows 7 to run under Fusion? I've heard some people say that 32-Bit Windows runs better for some reason. Any thoughts? Re: Windows VM slowing to a crawl
welcome back to windows! :) how many processor cores do you have? if you have 4 cores, give windows 7 2 cores; it'll speed it up nicely. also, with only 2GB ram dedicated to the vm, I'd use 32 bit windows 7. other than that, not sure what to suggest; it works fine here. unless you have some really huge apps installed under windows... ash On 13/06/2011 20:01, Doug Lawlor wrote: Hello List: I am noticing on my system that my Windows VM under Fusion tends to slow to a crawl after using it for a while. Re: Vuescan a disappointment for OCR
Is it possible your document was upside down? I made sure mine was right side up. I know that automatic orientation would be a great feature, but it is often easy to tell which end of a document is the top by a staple, or possibly even having someone orient documents for you before you throw them on the scanner. I had great results with it, but I was sure the document was right side up and followed Ann's list of settings to the letter. On Jun 13, 2011, at 9:35 AM, Ray Foret Jr wrote: Who ever said they got good results with Vuescan OCR, I'd like to know how you set it up. All I know is this. With Vuescan 9.45, (the 32 bit version), the following things happen after I set it up according to the instructions. 1. Text editor refuses to open when the scan is completed. This did not happen with earlier version. 2. When I manually opened the file in Text edit, all I get is unreckognizable garbage. This, from the very same page which yielded very good results with Abby Fine reader. I believe that if I am not much mistaken, Christer was complaining of the very same issues. Re-asking a Garage-Band question.
Hi people! I asked this a while back, but then I was away from the list for a while so I never heard the answer. Oops! And I did a search of the list archives, but, if there was an answer, I can't find it. Anyway, I'm wondering if it's possible to make the metronome's count-in in Garage-Band longer? Right now, it's only one bar. And that's not enough, especially at fast tempi, to get musical typing turned on and get my hands into position to play, or to get in position over at my synth-keyboard as it's not quite close enough to my desk. I checked in the Preferences, but I couldn't find anything that looked right. So can some one tell me how to make it give me more bars of count-in? Thanks! -- I may not agree with what you say, but I will defend to the death your right to say it. My musical typing's on the frits!
Uh, help? So when I first started playing around with Garage-Band, the musical typing function worked fine once I downloaded all the necessary Apple sound stuff. But then I deleted a track from the piece I'd been experimenting on, and it hasn't worked properly since! At first it would work in every other track but the replacement I was trying to create for the one I deleted, but now it's not working at all. The dialogue's coming up, but I'm not hearing any sound when I type. Any idea what's going on? This is really important, because I'm not sure my Mac will recognize my midi keyboard on account of its being positively ancient! So any help would be greatly appreciated! Ok, thanks again. You guys are life-savers! I don't know what I'd do without you! -- I may not agree with what you say, but I will defend to the death your right to say it. Re: just submitted report to Vuescan Dev regarding Text edit
Thanks Ray, I just submitted one also. I consider it a minor issue as VueScan has been creating the RTF files and I've just been Command-Tabbing to Finder and opening them from there. While troubleshooting this, I removed the 64 bit version and tested the 32 bit version and while I did feel like the 32 bit version was a tad snappier on my MBA it seemed the same otherwise and also failed to launch textedit.
