Re: What's the easiest way to remove my old iPhone from my list of devices?

2015-09-27 Thread Donna Goodin
So when I go to services and interact, the first thing I'm hearing is Manage,
that seems to allow me to manage my iCloud storage. If I VO arrow to the
left, my Mac starts making this dreadful noise, sort of like the one it makes
when you search in the iTunes store. That seems to apply to two different tab
areas, as I can hear a noise that sounds like it is moving over to a different
tab. Once I VO left past all of that, I'm at iCloud storage. That's what I
see when I'm not interacting with the table. And tabbing only seems to take me
into the table.
Cheers,
Donna

Hi all,

So exploring the whole device removal issue got me curious about something
else. Is there any way to ping your phone--i.e. make it play the sound--from
your Mac without going to the iCloud website?

I'm honestly at a loss, as I've never seen anything like that. I'd suggest the
Find My Phone removal method I put forth in my previous message, as that seems
like it'd be the easiest.

6s and touch to open contexual menu

2015-09-27 Thread Regina Alvarado

I know this is a mac list, but since Jonathan did a podcast on the 6s Plus, I
thought I would send along a tip. There is nothing to say an app does not work
to bring up the contectual menu, but there is a definite difference in the feel
of the vibration. When an app will not work, the vibration is longer by a bit
and there are 2 beats to it. When it works there is only one small beat. When
you immediately swipe to the right the contectual menu is right there. It is
wonderful for calendar and notes and reminders. Hope this helps someone.

Re: iPhone 6s Plus Audio Demonstration

2015-09-27 Thread Grant
The link was embedded in his message. Here it is:
http://soundcloud.com/jmosen/6splus

Searching for the word “download” then doing a VO+SPACE on that link will cause
the audio file to be saved to your Downloads folder in Mac OS X.

I agree, excellent podcast Jonathan. Thanks for sharing your impressions and
obvious enthusiasm and excitement about your new phone. Like you, I wonder what
practical benefits we may end up seeing with 3D Touch, but the possibilities
are there. I’m still debating whether to upgrade from the 5S, but I do have
some concerns about how easy I’d get used to the larger size.

Re: talking dashboard?

2015-09-27 Thread Alex Hall
Editing: I'm not sure, but I know Script Editor has some odd problems in auto
save. Actually, that's much of the reason I haven't worked on the scripts in a
while; I once lost a *lot* of changes that I had to rewrite. Try save anyway,
and be very sure you're working on a *copy* of the scripts, not the originals.

The slow speech problem is easily fixed. I default to system speech if VO is
off or doesn't allow scripting access, and it sounds like your VO doesn't. Just
open the VoiceOver Utility, select General in the table (it should be selected
by default), and check the "allow VoiceOver to be controlled by AppleScript"
checkbox.

Alex,
Can the Auto Save be turned off? I tried doing a normal save but it
seems that Auto Save still wants to get involved. I also will be in the
habit of saving copies of edited scripts to a thumb drive.

Re: talking dashboard?

2015-09-27 Thread deedra waters
Alex, the biggest thing for me currently is the wifi battery and time/date.
Reminders is also an issue but it’s not critical but it would be useful.

Reason why i need something like that is because The macbook and i move around
a lot combine with needing to check that info often. I was mostly curious
however if that info was combine somewhere. into 1. If you are willing, I would
love to get this info because it is important to me.

2015-09-27 Thread Donna Goodin
Has anyone else experienced an issue of being unable to create a thread with
multiple recipients? Once I've added the first recipient, I get put in a
messages thread with that person, and the Add Contact Button is gone. Anyone
found a solution?
Cheers,

Re: talking dashboard?

2015-09-27 Thread E.T.

Hi Alex,
Had forgotten about this when I upgraded to Yosemite a few months
ago so had to start over.

When I edit scripts, I get an error regarding auto save and the
options are to revert or save anyway. How can I resolve this.

Then when I execute one of these scripts, the speech is much slower.
Where do I need to go to change this? Thanks much.

Re: talking dashboard?

2015-09-27 Thread Alex Hall
They aren't really designed that way, because the more information a script has
to grab, the longer it takes. If you assign each one you want to a keystroke,
it's easy to just hit the first keystroke, listen, then hit the second. I
suppose I could combine a couple or three, if you really want me to.

Re: talking dashboard?

2015-09-27 Thread E.T.
Just an idea. Assign numbers to the scripts you want to use the most
then hold the option key and press each number one at t time to hear the
info. Would that work for you?

I have only edited the date and time script so far. Its only
necessary to edit the line that starts with set template. I played with
this until I got what I wanted. Just be mindful of the keywords used and
the syntax. I broke the script once or twice but no damage resulted.

Jeff,
I upgraded my iPad to iOS 9. Just now I connected it to the Mac
which is running iTunes 12.3. It looks like iTunes defaults to something
new with HTML content. Stop interacting and vo left arrow and you will
be back in familiar country. I am going to look at prefs later and see
if I can change what iTunes opens to.

Hi!

Yes! This is what I use as well, from
http://www.red-sweater.com
I have also heard that MacJournal works well with VoiceOver from here:

Those are definitely some options. Anyone feel free to correct me on
MacJournal. I heard good things about it and tried it very briefly, but did not
find it compelling enough to switch away from MarsEdit.

You wanna know what Apple WillDo ToChange TheLook

Samsung's GalaxyS6Edge & GalaxyS6Edge+

I'm specifically Referrin'To the CurvedEdges

Apple appeared to Copy the Placement of the
PowerKey by MovingIt from the TopCenter-Right to
the RightSide as illustrated on Samsung'sGalaxy
MobilePhones beginning with the GalaxyS5 MayBe even the GalaxyS4

I'm not sure if Apple will do this, I just simply
predicting it will happenn BasedOn PastExploits

I got tired of the 5S as the design hadn't
really changed and I had started with the 4 so
was looking for something different. No doubt
Apple will not be changing the design of their

day, then attached my iPhone 5 to it for the
next day. Both days, I was amazed to find that
the cardboard Plus felt large in my hand, but
small in my pocket. It's very thin and light,
and is longer and narrower than you might
imagine. Not being a more boxy shape lets it
rest in my pocket better, and I had no problems
with it the two days I tested it with my model.
While not an actual phone, this gave me
confidence that the Plus will be just fine,
which is good as it's the one I was leaning
towards. The better battery life, larger braille
input area, landscape mode for apps, and image
stabilization are all things I'm looking forward to.

You can easily print out the same template I
used, and carry around a cardboard version of a
Plus, to see how it'll work for you. Yes, it
might require minor adjustments in position or
grip, but there are definite advantages and I
encourage you to consider the change to a Plus
as just that: a change, rather than looking for
something the same size as the 5S but with
better internals. Of course, if the plusses
don't outweigh the minuses for you, there's
nothing wrong with the 6S, that's why Apple
makes both sizes. Give the Plus a shot though;
you might be pleasantly surprised.

use Braille screen input, the larger screen
real estate you have to work with might make
typing easier. On the other hand, are folks
finding the phones easy to carry when out and
about? Do they fit comfortably in your pockets?
I use my iPhone 5S on my commutes and often I
don’t even need to take it out of my pocket
to use the touch screen. I have a transit
widget that I check to monitor bus departure
times, and I use apps like BlindSquare and
Google Maps as well. And of course, I can
listen to music or audiobooks while commuting,
too. If I couldn’t carry the phone in my
pocket and had to carry it in a backpack or
briefcase, that would be quite a bit less
convenient for me. How do you folks feel about
this—for those whoo’ve used the larger phones
for a year now, do you eventually adjust to the larger screen size?

Re: What's the easiest way to remove my old iPhone from my list of devices?

Hi Daniel,

So I'm noticing. :) How do you do this? I actually did take a look on my IOS
device, and I see options for managing storage, but not for dealing with other
devices.

Re: talking dashboard?

2015-09-27 Thread E.T.
Its an option you can do right away while Alex looks into combining
some.

Just save the zip file and put the scripts into a folder you want to
run them from. You might even like them as they are and not do any
editing. I added 4 or 5 and only edited the date and time, the others
were fine for me. The only thing I changed was from 24 hour to 12 hour
format and changed what was spoken to make it sound better. "The time is
now..." for example.

edit the line that starts with set template. I played with this until I got
what I wanted. Just be mindful of the keywords used and the syntax. I broke the
script once or twice but no damage resulted.

I also think that mac journal from mariner software is pretty good for blogging

Have use both and think that maybe mars edit is maybe just a bit better for
blogging and mac journal has more general journaling options.

Re: Installing Windows on Mac Question

2015-09-27 Thread Brent Harding
I thought I read that if it was somewhat newer than that even that you couldn't
go beyond Lion or Mountain Lion, and if one doesn't have those in your purchase
list, those machines get stuck at what they came with. I'm not sure how true
that is though.

Hi. You won't have any problems installing on your Mac. I used to have
Bootcamp but now I've switched back to VMWare Fusion which is all I need but
that's personal preference. I apologize in advance for going off topic a bit,
but how old is the MacBook you are using? If it's 2007 or above, you can update
to the latest version of OS X which is Yosemite and even update to El Capitan
when it comes out. To find out the year of the Mac, open the menu bar with VO+M
and go down until you hear about this Mac. Enter on that and you should see all
the info about the Mac.

Hello all,

Before I ask my question, I want to provide the following information: I
have been a Windows user for quite some time and would like to continue to do

have an older MacBook Pro given to me while I learn this operating system.
Unfortunately, it is my understanding that the older MacBook Pro at my disposal
cannot be updated beyond OSX 10.6. On the Windows side my preferred screen
reader is JAWS but I also have NVDA and Window-Eyes installed. I would like to
add right here that I really do not want to make this a Mac versus PC
conversation; as a blind computer I am grateful that I have access to both.

Question
I was considering acquiring both a new Windows 10 laptop as well as a new
MacBook Pro. But since I am not independently wealthy, I wondered if it would
not be more cost effective purchasing only the MacBook Pro and then installing
Windows on that system. I would like to know how well Windows runs on the Mac
and get an idea of the difficulty of actually accomplishing this feat.
Additionally, are there any recommended specs, such as the amount of RAM or
preferred processor, for this type of setup? I am fairly competent with a
Windows PC but still consider myself a novice on the Mac; either may or may not
be of help during the process of installing Windows on a Mac. Any suggestions
and/or recommendations would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,

Mauricio

Re: Installing Windows on Mac Question

2015-09-27 Thread Shawn Krasniuk
No, anyone with a 2007 Mac or later can jump from Snow Leopard to Yosemite. I
think that'll be true once El Capitan gets released this Wednesday.

Re: What's the easiest way to remove my old iPhone from my list of devices?

2015-09-27 Thread Jeffrey Shockley
Hi,
It’s definitely easier on the phone, that’s for sure. :)
What you do is go to Settings/iCloud. Then, find where it has your name, and
double tap that button. Then, a new page will come up, and you double tap the
Devices button. At least, if I remember right, that’s how I just did it.
Hope this helps,
Jeffrey

Interact with that group, but *not* the table. It sounds like you're in

 Hi all,

Trying to remove my old phone from my list of devices, and not having
much luck. So far I have been trying to do it from iCloud.com. Is
there a better way to do this? If not, how do you do it from the
website? I've selected my old phone, and VO says remove Device, but
when I press VO-Space or enter, nothing happens.
 TIA,
 Donna

Re: Installing Windows on Mac Question

2015-09-27 Thread Shawn Krasniuk
Hi. You won't have any problems installing on your Mac. I used to have Bootcamp
but now I've switched back to VMWare Fusion which is all I need but that's
personal preference. I apologize in advance for going off topic a bit, but how
old is the MacBook you are using? If it's 2007 or above, you can update to the
latest version of OS X which is Yosemite and even update to El Capitan when it
comes out. To find out the year of the Mac, open the menu bar with VO+M and go
down until you hear about this Mac. Enter on that and you should see all the
info about the Mac.
