The biggest problem with VMware fusion is that most of my sighted friends using Macs don't use it. It doesn't have nearly the ratings of Parallel and except for accessibility doesn't seem to be of interest to people I know. So getting help is sometimes challenging. If you want your experience to be particularly snappy in windows, you'll have to have at least three cores to dedicate to the Windows box. Fortunately the Mac doesn't need so much. I had mine on a Mac Air but it was pretty sluggish and crashed a lot. I finally wen to a Macbook Pro with maximum specs and it's running quite well. But that doesn't address your interest to do this on the cheap. I think your copy of WindowEyes will run in the virtual machine with Windows7 but check with them to be sure. NVDA certainly will of course. be prepared for headaches though. You have to map some keys, resolve whatever conflicts arise about hardware and applications etc. I've found it to be pretty challenging at times. What you get it set up it's simple as pie. First, turn Wi-Fi on on your iPhone. Then turn Bluetooth on. Then go to personal hotspot and settings, you will notice several choices after you've turned it on. One of the choices is Wi-Fi, and that's the one I did. Now there is this horrible code you have to put in to your Mac. It is on your iPhone screen and you have to do it character by character. Go in to the extras menu with the voiceover keys and the letter M twice. Then VO left or right arrow until you get to Wi-Fi. Press the VO space on that. Then you have to go down until your Mac says Owner's iPhone and choose that. Then you have to get the choices and type in that awful code. From now on you have a network that says Owner's iPhone so that if you don't Internet Wi-Fi your iPhone can let you use your cellular data minutes. I have a lot of them so it's not a problem. Now you can use Safari on your computer and send emails on your computer. You ask why can't you just use your iPho? Well, if you have some files to attach like I did you can use your to send them just like any other Wi-Fi. It's fast, too if your cell connection is good. Unfortunately Vmware are one of those companies despite doing excellent products are only seeking out more money from the customer. I submitted a problem not me but a friend had, and they basically told me the same; I could pay for per incident support for $49 or so. So I backed out very quickly. I asked if there was anyone who could just answer me over the phone, and was told that if I wanted phone support I could buy a single incident support request for $30… That's half of what I just paid for the entire Fusion program! So now, even though I haven't even started using Fusion due to their own website/program not working, I'm waiting for an email from an engineer which will, I strongly suspect based on my experience so far, be some form letter that may or may not answer my question. I could see this if I'd been using the program successfully and just had questions, but I can't use it at all and just want to get started. This is ridiculous, and I really wish there was another product I could use instead. Re: Is VMWare known to hold holiday sales?
Even better download Fusion now and use it free for 30 days so you could buy it for the holidays and yet still be within the evaluation period. With the holiday week I don't think my demos will happen before Thanksgiving and the associated days of shopping, but I am not sure. Re: iTunes radio
iTunes Radio is not a subscription service. Instead it is free for all iTunes users, with ads being incorporated into the service. If you subscribe to iTunes Match, then the ads will be removed. To get started double tap on the radio tab in the iOS music app. According to a podcast done by Gw Micro to use iTunes Radio on the desktop version of iTunes, check the radio radio button. Re: Feature Request: iCloud Syncing of VoiceOver Preferences
Unless I am misunderstanding I can't see this going to work. VoiceOver uses different voices on both iOS and Mac. So if they are going to implement this on the mac then it will have to work across macs only. VoiceOver settings are already synced to iCloud as part of documents and data. In my experience when restoring my iPhone 4s from an iCloud backup made on the iPhone 4, all my VoiceOver settings came across except for the voice, but that's a different matter altogether. E-mail Facebook and iMessage christopher...@gmail.com On 31/10/2013 06:48, Nicholas Parsons wrote: Dear Apple Accessibility Team, With such deep integration of iCloud with so many aspects of iOS and OS X, it's surprising that VoiceOver has so far been left out. Many VoiceOver users own multiple Apple devices, and would benefit greatly from being able to sync VoiceOver preferences across all their devices. Currently, for Mac, there is the portable preferences feature. Though no doubt a good idea at the time, this is now a little out dated and clunky, requiring a user to carry around a USB flash drive to plug into each mac, it also seems to have troubles syncing preferences in multiple directions, at least in my experience. I've also tried exporting my VoiceOver preferences to a third party syncing service (Dropbox), but this also does not seem to work smoothly. It doesn't seem to export or import my pronunciation and keyboard commander preferences, for example. iCloud seems like the perfect solution for this problem. It could offer seamless syncing of VoiceOver preferences across multiple Apple devices, without needing to carry around the same portable flash drive. It could offer syncing between Macs, between iOS devices and even between Macs and iOS devices so far as the same preferences were applicable. I hope you consider this for a future update to VoiceOver and both iOS and OS X. Thank you for all your great work. Re: Observation with voice on Mavericks
To set up different voices for VoiceOver open the VoiceOver utility with Vo f8 then press command 3 to switch to the speech pain of the utility. I selected Karen as my default voice but you can also have different voices for different things in VoiceOver. Now to change the voice for the clock go to System Preferences, Date and Time and select the clock tab. Check the announce time check box and there will be a button there to customize the voice for that. Now to change the voice overall for the system go to System Preferences, Dictation and Speech and select the text to speech tab. Yes, delete the Gmail account on your computer, and no you do not need to disable imap. So long as pop is enabled it should work. Also I suggestin using the other option when adding a new account. So how do I do this? Do I go to System Preferences Dictation and Speech? E-mail Facebook and iMessage christopher...@gmail.com On 25/10/2013 17:20, Edward Green wrote: Hi all, I’ve just stumbled across the ability to be able to dictate offline using Mavericks, as long as you’re prepared to spare 500MB of disc space. Under Mountain Lion as with iOS, you needed an Internet connection and it was done over Apple’s servers. Apologies if this has already been posted to the list, but I haven’t seen it and thought it may be of interest. Re: accessible spotify on os x? or alternative music service on osx
Yup it sucks doesn't it? Would love to use Spotify as a music lover but can't due to the stupid accessibility or lack of it thereof on the desktop platforms. Can't stand listening to music on the iPhone with its built in speakers and don't want to be strapped to wired or have issues with wireless headphones. Am hoping to get a bluetooth speaker as a Christmas present for myself so may look into Spotify after then. On 03/08/2013 05:28, Kevin Gibbs wrote: Actually, I'd like to know about this as well. Spotify is accessible on my iPhone. But it's not accessible at all on the Mac itself. -- You received this message because you are subscribed to the Google Groups MacVisionaries group. Re: Would appreciate knowing if I can upload n audio file to Facebook
No you cannot upload audio directly to Facebook but you can share links to the audio file from any source such as Dropbox or Sendspace. On 03/08/2013 18:54, Christine Grassman wrote: I played around with both the mobile site on my MacBook, and the iPHone app, and cannot figure out a way to do it. I can only upload photos. I sometimes can get a choose file to appear on the mobile site, but cannot find which button allows me to choose the file before hitting that button. Thank you. Re: Trouble with win seven, bootcamp, and mac book air...
Yes that's incorrect both 32 and 64 bit are supported. On 02/08/2013 16:52, Phil Halton wrote: hmmm I thought bootcamp only supported windows 64bit. When I installed win7 Home Premium on my iMac, I first downloaded the bootcamp drivers before doing the install so I'd have them ready at hand. Then I installed windows7 64bit and the ddrivers at the end of the process and it worked fine. I don't know why, I thought that you could only install 64 bit versions of windows, but I'm sure that must be wrong. On 8/2/13, Cameron Strife came...@cameronstrife.com wrote: Hi everybody. Perhaps somebody has gone through this and can shed some light on what might be going on... I've searched apple forums etc but haven't found a solution yet... My girlfriend needs windows on her mac book air for work so I installed win seven Ultimate 32 bit after creating the required partition in the bootcamp utility in mountain lion. When I instruct the bootcamp utility to download the windows support software, I get the dialogue box saying that the download is in progress. That's where it ends though because it just seems stuck. I even let it sit overnight and the same dialogue box was still there the next morning. There is no status bar etc that is visible to voiceover, none that I can find at least. So, I went on the apple site and downloaded the two latest 32 bit versions of the package but neither will install. I get an error message when I run setup.exe that says that it's not compatible with this machine. We're not running win seven 64 bit either so that is not the issue. I grabbed the bootcamp folder off of my old snow lepeard dvd and while that seems to install correctly, (I get the last dialogue box with the finish button then the message saying that I need to restart the computer), none of the drivers load after rebooting and bootcamp is not in the notifications area. When I go into device manager, it doesn't look like any of the apple and other specific drivers have loaded because I only see generic drivers under things like keyboard, network adapters etc. This is my first time installing windows via bootcamp on an air and my first time doing it on a mac with mountain lion. I've done this on five different macs over the past few years with no trouble but now I am at a loss as to what's going on here... Thoughts? Thanks for any tips you guys might have! Can't help but I was considering an Alva until I heard how good the Focus Blue is as a future Braille display.
