That would be great Tom, but……..my wife’s brother can die at any time,
so we have no idea when a funeral will be. That is what really sucks. So if
we schedule a cookout, I could miss it any time. Doctors say it should
happen before the end of the year. Thanks Doc. Merry Christmas Happy New

It has been quite a tumultuous year here at BuyMBparts. First my
father-in-law committed suicide the week of Christmas 2004. My wife was
named Executrix of the estate and it has been pure hell dealing with
groveling siblings the last 8 months. Then our son got married in July and
once again Mama was stressed to the max. And finally, we were told last
month that my wife’s 48 year old brother has 3 to 4 months to live.
So…
Needless to say she and I are kinda worn out. We have decided to skip one
year for the RustyQ, so we can settle down and gain some control in our
lives. I am very sorry since this would have been our 8th cookout. I can
promise that next year will be a GREAT one. If anyone wants to step up and
have a gathering in lieu of this one please come forward. Again, it has
really been fun and we have such a neat collection of people, but I really
don’t think my heart is in it for this year. I look forward to having a nice
blast next year around the middle of October. Thanks for your understanding
in this matter.

You have a few of your facts wrong. I cant comment on the vets list
deal as I do not know a thing about that. mbz.org was started when
Richard, Gary, myself, and some other folks got kicked off the Hitler
(Ritter/Easley) list. I cant say when Rusty got involved with mbz.org
but I know it was not at the beginning but was pretty early on. Rusty
did sponsor that list. As far as this list goes, myself and my company
Okiebenz are the only sponsors here. All operating costs come out of my
pocket. Just to clarify Rusty is not a sponsor at this time but is a
VERY valued parts supplier and a good personal friend. Other than that
you are correct. Do appreciate your appreciation of me(if that makes
any sense).

Disinformation.

The VETS list was started by Gabard. The mbz.org lists were started when
Richard, along with several other people, got themselves 'banned' from the
Ritter/Easley list. The two are completely independent of each other. The
first mbz.org list was actually what came to be known as the Banned list.

Yes, you are correct.

Richard agreed to administer the list for
Alex, then commandeered it.

Disinformation.

Richard did not 'comandeer' lists, nor is it technologically possible to do
so. If a list owner was not keeping it up a list, or had lost interest in
continuing to do so (a very common occurrence, as mailing list admin
requires both time and patience, and never ends), Richard would take it over
with their approval, and bring it under mbz.org.

I guess in that case I 'comandeered' mbz.org

Sure, Richard used volunteers as list admins. I have a rough idea what the
Bimby sponsorship amounted to, wise, and if you want to suggest that
Richard could have made money off it, while also paying list admins, then
please teach my accountant your math before my next tax return.

There seems to be some suggestion in these exchanges, that Richard only had
interest in lists that he could dig money out of Bimby to subsidize. Maybe
someone would care to explain, therefore, why Richard also hosted lists for
Rover cars and tropical fish, among other things, as well, though last time
I checked Bimbyparts has no interest in either.

Rusty has graciously provided funding to keep the MBZ.org list
alive for several years (at exorbitant (extortion) rates) and continues to
support this list financially.

Disinformation.

Rusty does NOT support Kaleb's lists in any way, shape or form, unless such
an agreement for support has taken place in the last few days (and I imagine
we would have heard about it).

Correct again. We love having Rusty here as a valuable resourse but he
does not sponsor these lists at this time. That would be up to Rusty
and Gary to decide.

Rusty's presence on lists is for business advantage. That is fine. He
contributes parts expertise from time to time, and is kind enough to host
parties for list participants. No one, including me, has any objection to
that (and such participation is refused on many, if not most, car lists by
the way).

Bimby sponsored the mbz.org lists. True. However, Bimby did not 'own' them,
in any way shape or form. To the best of my knowledge, it isn't even legally
possible.

Rusty's main agreement with Richard was for the original portal to
buymbparts.com, linked off mbz.org, AND (probably most importantly) to use
Richard's expertise in keeping Bimby appearing in the Google top ten of
search results for mercedes parts. Fooling with coding to 'optimize'
Google's results is specialized knowledge, and it does not come cheap.
Whatever Rusty and Richard agreed to, for fees, was between them. Surely if
Richard's fees were extravagant, as a competent businessman Rusty would have
sought out the same service, elsewhere, for cheaper?

And in any case, the buymbparts pages moved from Richard's server at least a
year ago, did it not?

Anyone who has spent more than five minutes in the world of business knows
that there are two sides (maybe more) to every story like this.

So my point is, this was and continues to be a disagreement or dispute
between Rusty and one of his suppliers. To discuss it here, especially
without the 'other side' being provided the opportunity to rebut, is just
plain ignorant.

Mac

Put plunger back in and see if it moves in and out free. Put clip back

Color bars and the like are shown beside each camera for the reader to
compare . it is not a word comparison but bar, graphic, and the like
technical in nature with examples and explains/shows clearly
DAYLIGHT SHOT compared .. if the light is changed i.e. sun set the
clear winner is $3,000 camera which is well designed for a RANGE of
Light conditions The two camera have very close overlapping quality
within a small range, in this case, Daylight .. The review was not
a Reader's Digest type, or Consumer Reports which keeps the viewer away
from the technical data...

Nope, but its not a fair comparison. Beware anything you read in the
consumer press about rivialing pro equipment. Realistically the
basics of the prosumer, that is made for highend hobbists and low end
pros and consumer cameras are nearly the same. The difference is the
addition of better audio inputs and other options that pros want. Plus
the larger chips that give better low light and a slightly sharper
picture.
I have a Sony VX-2000 which is a great camera. When I bought it 2
years ago it retailed for $1600, I bought right before the VX-2100
came out. Definately not the camera for everybody though, its got alot
of features most people don't need. For the average user a TRV-230
Digital8 or TRV-11 miniDV (or whatever this season's equivalent) for
$400-$500 is more than plenty. Canon also makes excellent cameras in
the price range.

If I read you literally, do I understand that you are painting it yourself?
Or you are buying the paint yourself for a shop to do it? I ask because it's
unusual for the customer to supply his own paint (and not really advisable).

First, at your car's age, using a straight mix to the original spec
(whichever it is) probably won't match the other paint perfectly. Even if
the car has been garaged all the time, there will be some fade.

Assuming you have a shop doing it, a really competent painter should be able
to look at the paint and match his mix to how your car looks now.

If you are doing it yourself, then call around and find a paint supplier who
has a portable 'scanner' for paint. They were ultra-high-end last time I had
my car done (2000) but I think they are more common now. The scanner will
'read' your car's color and spit out the nearest code(s) it can find.

For example, we had a similar conundrum with my w116 SD, which was somewhere
between nautical and china blue -- yet was coded as blue/green. The painter
took it to his supplier, who scanned it and discovered someone had repainted
it with a Rolls Royce blue. We returned it to original.

Hope this helps.

IIRC, Safeway has gift cards, and I think they had some for fuel as
well (not their own)

Thanks for the suggestions and insights.  Most of the service stations
sell gas gift cards but I could only find one Shell station that had
them in stock. They are also available online from many issuers but
need to be shipped, and I didn't wish to pay the $25 SH for overnight
delivery.  I will instead add $$ to my son's checking account that he
can draw from using the debit card linked to his account.  That way,
he isn't limited to any particular brand of gas.

the animals delivered to the rescue station.

I would like to donate a prepaid gas card to be used on his trip but
 1) have never purchased one this before, and 2) want to assure that
the card I choose to buy is usable in the states he is likely to be
travelling through (MD, VA, NC, TN, MS, ALA, and of course LA).  Any
 recommendations?

Is there any particular reason for a gas card versus cash or whatnot?
That long of a distance is a lot of gas so prolly a significant amount
of money for cash.  Credit card should be just fine

Make sure he is fully aware that there is a gas scare in the areas near
the coast.  I live in starkville,ms and over half of the gas stations
don't have gas.  A few stations in Meridian did when I was there last
weekend didn't even try when I was further south than that.  Also
keep in mind that once that needle moves past half tank, and you aren't
there yet if you don't turn around you are now stuck down there
with

everybody else.

The trip shouldn't be that bad so long as he has gas did the same
thing myself last weekend, but with gas and supplies for my family and
my in-laws. Brought down about 70 gallons of gas so didn't have any
problem coming back up :)A lot of places that were not hit by the
storm surge are starting to recover so the links for credit card
authorization are starting to come back up, but still need to have gas
to pump out!

Hope the trip goes well for him!

getting declared guardian. Grandma thought that everyone was out to
get her, because she still was able to misremember what happened
recently. Hated her kids because she was sure they stole her car, even
though she had sold it while still sort of lucid.

Now she is in a facility where she is safe, back to around thinking she
is 18 or so, and has a new boyfriend. They get jiggy, so you have to
knock really loud and wait. Real cool part is they know they have a
boy/girl friend, but have no idea who it is. He is blind, she is able
to sometimes recall that my MiL is her daughter, and integrates that
though at 18 she was still years away from kids.

Before that, she was living in her mind in Yakima, where she grew up,
when it was a white town. Really fully developed reality and recall,
and able to flow from there and integrate that these future people
were also able to talk to her.

She is healthy, so I do not expect to have to plant her anytime soon.

When I worked at Budget we had the Levis edition Gremlins with the straight
sixes (was it a 252?), including the tiny dished sport steering wheel and NO
POWER STEERING. Really nice handling beast under way, but evil, evil thing
to parallel park. We gave up trying to rent them to women, as they all
brought them back and complained within hours.

We had Hornets and Pacers as well. Whomever purchased the Pacers after got a
good deal, as they were low mileage (no one wanted them) -- except for the
wagons, which people found to be a useful size for small chores.

Ok, folks, time to bet back to beating this dead horse down. I'm getting rid
of my 82 300SD which needs, at the very least, a replaced key tumbler which
is stuck. I'd be willing to let it go for $600 and am even flexible from
there. I believe that, at the very least, one could part this car out and
get a substantial return on their investment. When I could turn the key on
it, it ran very well for me. I am sad to have to see it go, but we have
grown our separate ways... c'est la vie. In any event, this car will also
come with two pairs of snow tires.

Re: [MBZ] Mercedes Digest, Vol 4, Issue 77

2005-09-09 Thread Curt Raymond

Hi Bill,

Like I said before, or rather like I ment before but may not have articulated
very well, if you compare them most cameras in the consumer-prosumer space will
have very similar image quality. Good quality lenses are not terribly expensive
now and all cameras from one manufactuerer will use one tape mechanism or very
close to the same mechanism. So the differences are limited to the specifics of
the glass and the size and number of chip(s) used to create the picture. More
and larger chips give a more crisp picture and better low light, but in
daylight or with good studio lights setup they're really all about the same.
When evaluating what camera to get think about where you're going to be
shooting, is it mostly outside in the sun or inside at events? At night Sony's
Nightshot is pretty amazing. It looks decidedly odd but it can see in cases
where even alot of people can't. The quality suffers but its the difference
between getting the shot and not getting the shot.

Many news organizations now use highend prosumer cameras to reduce cost since
the cameras are everybit as good for what they do as the much more expensive
units they've used in the past.

Color bars and the like are shown beside each camera for the reader to
compare . it is not a word comparison but bar, graphic, and the
like
technical in nature with examples and explains/shows clearly
DAYLIGHT SHOT compared .. if the light is changed i.e. sun set the
clear winner is $3,000 camera which is well designed for a RANGE of
Light conditions The two camera have very close overlapping
quality
within a small range, in this case, Daylight .. The review was not
a Reader's Digest type, or Consumer Reports which keeps the viewer away
from the technical data...

Hey Mike,

Yes there is a thermostat controlled flap. I have yet to attach the chimney to
the exhaust heater though so it's getting ambiant air from both.

Are you thinking that the flap may be acting as an extra choke?

I'll check the vacuum as soon as I can find a replacement idle stop solenoid.
The wire broke right at the solenoid :(

Anybody know what other cars uses a solenoid similar to a 72 250 m130 w/ Zenith
32/40 INAT carbs? Anyone?

Thx.

George

-- Original message --

 George,
I don't remember if there was a thermostat-controlled flap in the air
snorkel on your car or not. If so, it may not be open. I agree with Peter
that it sounds like a new air filter, but you might be able to verify by
reading vacuum from a port above the throttle plates, with air cleaner on
 and off.

Here's a paragraph it appears you missed: The two air crews picked up a

decided to fly their helicopters to New Orleans and join the rescue effort

the Navy on this one. All these two young pilots would have had to do was
call up their base ops on the radio and request permission to divert for a
SAR effort. It probably would have been granted. Happens all the time, but
you must let those responsible for assigning airframes know where you are

Re: [MBZ] WTB the control box that makes V12 run like a 6cyl.

2005-09-09 Thread David Bruckmann
If it's anything like the BMW V12, there are two separate computer
boards, one for each cylinder bank. The BMW uses the same engine
management parts as their 6-cyl engines use, just in tandem. The bank
controllers don't talk to each other and are removable, held into
circuit board carriers with securing tabs. Anyone who's ever worked
on a mini or mainframe (or an Apple Lisa) would recognise this setup.

This is PURE speculation, but you might want to see if a computer
from an E300 would do it (if you have easy access to a later E300 or
S300). You may also want to see if swapping boards between banks
moves the problem around. Then you can try to source just the
requisite board from Bosch instead of the whole computer from MB.

on year, it was either the pontiac 151 or the AMC 150). In addition to the
wagons (have two with sticks and a parts wagon), they made four door sedans,
two door hatchbacks (called an SX4, had one with a five speed), and two

Absolutely unstoppable in the snow, and actually a fairly decent car to

something? It's pretty sad when a Mercedes list is getting off on how weird

Safeway don't go out that far east, don't think albertsons does either.
Think super walmart or winn-dixie, at least in the eastern states I've
been to.

Back in the 60´s I had a 250GTE coupe for a few years and the tune up
consisted of changed the four sets of points, dual distributors dual
points, plus 12 new plugs, so I am curious about a Italian tune up by a
Italian stalion like Marshall?
 Adios from Mexico Don
