Just returned home from a neighborhood celebration of Trump's
inauguration, about twenty or thirty folks, lots of kids, fireworks,
food and strong drink, just a great time. American flags flying, war
stories, laughing about the victory, making new friends.

Surprisingly, at least four or five were legal immigrants who recently
decided to become American citizens.

One neighbor, who was invited but declined, decided to make a stink
about the fireworks and came over to complain. This was at nine p.m.
on a Friday night. He was rather belligerent, was told to stuff it and
seen off. He called police, they came and basically said we were cool,
continue with party and fireworks, and then visited the neighbor to
let him know the deal. They came cruising by twice more, showing the
flag and keeping the peace, we partied on.

To be honest, up until the moment that President Trump finished the oath
of office, I still had a fear that the TPTB/CCF would find some way to
take over power. It is a good thing that the bumster is such a lazy,
distracted prez. If he was as power hungry as the witch or some of his
predecessors, he would have staged a beer hall putsch of some sort to
stay in power, since he was pretty much ruling as a dictator anyway.

After a year or so of being the puppet in the viewbox, I think he got
tired of the game and just wanted out. But there was always the
possibility that the puppetmasters would not let him go away, but make
him dissolve the gress of cons and declare he was the law.

BUT . . . in 1940 the average life expectancy was about 60 years.
We have come a long way since then.
Modern medicine can be a good thing.
It should not be just for the wealthy and you should not have to sell
your house to pay your medical bill if you need some significant
medical treatment.

For example, a friend is a snowbird who spends the winters in AZ. He
and his wife drove down around the end of October a few years ago and
arrived on a Thursday. On Friday, he experienced some chest pains. His
wife is a retired nurse and he has had heart issues in the past. She
took no chances and insisted he go to the hospital to be checked out.
They kept him from Friday afternoon until Saturday afternoon and
despite their best efforts could find nothing wrong with him. The bill
was over $20K. That is SILLY.

Even the hospital doesn't know how much it really costs to run a procedure and

On the other hand health care is like no other business, when you NEED it (like

your house to pay your medical bill if you need some significant medical
treatment.

For example, a friend is a snowbird who spends the winters in AZ. He and
his wife drove down around the end of October a few years ago and
arrived on a Thursday. On Friday, he experienced some chest pains. His
wife is a retired nurse and he has had heart issues in the past. She
took no chances and insisted he go to the hospital to be checked out.
They kept him from Friday afternoon until Saturday afternoon and despite
their best efforts could find nothing wrong with him. The bill was over
$20K. That is SILLY.

There are many plans, just not unity behind one plan.

The federal government meddling in our healthcare has so thoroughly jacked
it up that I would hope they would repeal not just the ACA but most of the
rest of it as well, stop trying to regulate it and let some market forces
come to bear.

I agree with a lot of what Karl Denninger says on his Market Ticker blog,
if the AG would simply enforce the existing laws that all other businesses
have to follow (e.g. publishing a price list, not colluding, prohibiting
changing the price of a good depending on the perceived wealth of the
buyer) then our healthcare costs would certainly drop like a rock.

Your premise is socialist. Repeal bummercare. Give the inscos and the
poor fools who had to pay for bummercare a period of time (a year?) to
allow the current policies to run out. Let the market determine who
buys ins and what ins is offered. Allow the policyholder to shop for
docs, hosp and drugs. Before WWII, we had good docs, good hosp, a few
drugs, and no med ins. We all got along just fine.

I do NOT what the Goobers to "replace" bummercare. I want the Goobers

My thoughts are mostly focused on the fact that the ultra-prog era of Obama,
Clinton, and Kerry is OVER. The naiveté of their foreign and domestic
policies have led us further away from the goals they sought, not closer.
Seeking peace in the world, their feckless policies led the world further
into conflict. Seeking better lives for the poor, the middle class, and
minorities their policies have led to lower real incomes, shorter life
expectancies, and more violence among our own citizens. Seeking better
access to education, their policies have led to greater costs and poorer
outcomes.

This Trump guy was not my first (nor second, nor third) choice, but at least
he is a realist. I believe he is a patriot and will do his best to deliver
on his promises.

One thing that seems will be different, even with pissing off the

saw BHO as much of a politician, engaging with other pols in Congress
unless they were just ideological partners on stuff that would have been
done whether he was engaged or not.  Seemed like he basically outsourced
whatever to the Ds in Congress, and where stuff was too hard to work
politically he relied on EOs.  Never did much of anything to work the R
Congress to get things done. He seemed to spend a lot of time whining
about stuff rather than dealing with it.  Clinton and Reagan were
politicians, worked all sides and got stuff accomplished, for better or
worse.  Bushes maybe to some extent.  So it will be interesting to see
him applying the New York real estate/casino developer mode to these
guys.  My sense is he will shake things up severely trying to buck the
entrenched interests, but if he uses the BHO "pen" to get some stuff
done that will wake them up.  And if they want to do stuff they will
need DT to approve it.  And I bet he has some vocal popular support for
it all, along with some extremely vocal and active opposition, that will
egg him on.  It is going to be interesting.

I have noticed Chucky Shumer howling in outrage lately, I guess we will
have to listen to 4 years of that grating whining from him and Nancy P
too.  Turnabout is gonna be a b*tch.  They need to rehabilitate Anthony
"Little" Weiner and that will make a 3fer.

NPR have been having fits for the last 2 months, they are in full
meltdown today.  The PBS "news" shows tonight will be draped in black
and there will be a lot of Weighty Intoning from Learned Commentators.
Half of it will likely be an Obama retrospective and coverage of their
departure and new vacation, along with grief counseling.

Isn't that something we should have been doing for the last 8 years?Why was it
acceptable for Mitch McConnell to say his job was to make Obama a 1 term

Thanks. Interesting history lesson. I had read about Liudmyla, but
never saw the poem. Those mosin-nagants run by women in trees accounted
for quite a few. I had never heard of abdul.

Full name: Liudmyla Mykhailivna Pavlychenko
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lyudmila_Pavlichenko

From WW-2 era:

"Ludmilla, the Soviet lassie,

Has many a notch in her gun;

She thinks it a trifle to pick up a rifle

And blow out the brains of a Hun.

If cartridges happen to fail her,

She’s equally expert with steel;

She uses a dagger to cut off the swagger

Of ev’ry Hilterian heel.

The Finns and Rumanians dread her;

Their leader has only to cry;

‘Ach, here comes Ludmilla, the demon guerilla.’

And back to their bases they fly.

Contrariwise, Russians adore her-

The gal with the gat in her gown;

From Omsk to Tiflis the redoubtable miss

Is toasted by country and town.

But where is the Muscovite hero

Would venture Ludmilla to date?

Her great reputation for swift liquidation

Would make her a perilous mate.

One man, and one only is worthy;

I move , Mr Chief Commissar-

And the motion is carried- that she shall be married

To Ivan Skavinsky Skavar.*

*https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Abdul_Abulbul_Amir

The sons of the Prophet are brave men and bold
And quite unaccustomed to fear,
But the bravest by far in the ranks of the Shah,
Was Abdul Abulbul Amir.

If you wanted a man to encourage the van,
Or harass the foe from the rear,
Storm fort or redoubt, you had only to shout
For Abdul Abulbul Amir.

Now the heroes were plenty and well known to fame
In the troops that were led by the Czar,
And the bravest of these was a man by the name
Of Ivan Skavinsky Skavar.

One day this bold Russian, he shouldered his gun
And donned his most truculent sneer,
Downtown he did go where he trod on the toe
Of Abdul Abulbul Amir.

Young man, Abdul roared, with your life are you bored
That you wish to end your career?
Vile infidel, know, you have trod on the toe
Of Abdul Abulbul Amir.

So take your last look at the sunshine and brook
And send your regrets to the Czar
For by this I imply, you are going to die,
Count Ivan Skavinsky Skavar.

Then this bold Mameluke drew his trusty skibouk,
Singing, "Allah! Il Allah! Akbar!"
And with murderous intent he ferociously went
For Ivan Skavinsky Skavar.

They parried and thrust, they side-stepped and cussed,
Of blood they spilled a great part;
The philologist blokes, who seldom crack jokes,
Say that hash was first made on the spot.

They fought all that night neath the pale yellow moon;
The din, it was heard from afar,
And huge multitudes came, so great was the fame,
Of Abdul and Ivan Skavar.

As Abdul's long knife was extracting the life,
In fact he was shouting, "Huzzah!"
He felt himself struck by that wily Calmuck,
Count Ivan Skavinsky Skavar.

The Sultan drove by in his red-breasted fly,
Expecting the victor to cheer,
But he only drew nigh to hear the last sigh,
Of Abdul Abulbul Amir.

There's a tomb rises up where the Blue Danube rolls,
And graved there in characters clear,
Is, "Stranger, when passing, oh pray for the soul
Of Abdul Abulbul Amir."

A splash in the Black Sea one dark moonless night
Caused ripples to spread wide and far,
It was made by a sack fitting close to the back,
Of Ivan Skavinsky Skavar.

A Muscovite maiden her lone vigil keeps,
'Neath the light of the cold northern star,
And the name that she murmurs in vain as she weeps,
Is Ivan Skavinsky Skavar.

~~~
It's a slow evening.
