Re: [MBZ] AC compressor engage signal on a euro 123 wagon

2019-10-19 Thread Curley McLain via Mercedes
Mit Klima, or Sans Klima?    If it has Klima, that is where you start.
Klima relay fails often.

Otherwise, I'd start at the plug closest to the clutch.   Likely if you
have voltage there when the clutch should be engaged, the clutch coil is
bad.   If no volts there, every case I have encountered has been a Klima
relay gone over the hill.

Karl Wittnebel via Mercedes wrote on 10/19/19 9:33 PM:

OK hypothetically if I needed to pull the climate control signal for the
A/C compressor clutch off a euro 123 wagon control unit, where would I
begin looking for the signal?

WDB 123 193 120 14388

It is the older style unit with the vertical buttons in the middle. I guess
I need to do some reading on how these control units typically fail and how
to test/troubleshoot them.

This motor is from a 2006 320 cdi, so it is a bit of a hybrid.

Thanks,
Karl

Re: [MBZ] Stealer experience, and key fob

2019-10-19 Thread Curley McLain via Mercedes

Good story!

Buggered Benzmail via Mercedes wrote on 10/19/19 2:33 PM:

So I go by the stealer with this MB battery from the $600E320 that has the
broken negative post. Some greeter guy (there were 2) is confused, I tell him I
need the parts counter, says they are really busy in the service department.
Uh, parts? He tells me to pull in the enclosed area. 2 cute greeter honeys are
confused. They think I need service even though I tell them I just want to get
a read on a battery. You want to change a battery? No, just want to find out
if there’s a warranty. One finally determines that they can look it up with the
VIN since there’s no date code on the battery, if it was installed by a
stealer. So they do that and say the last time was 2008. No way this battery is
11yo but they have no way to know since there’s no receipt. Only a 2yr warranty
anyway. So no happy ending.

So I left. I guess I’ll get my $9 from the knacker.

On a more positive note the PO said the key fob doesn’t work but she used the
metal key that’s in there. So I’ve been doing that this week. I check and
there’s no battery in the fob, which might be a clue. Got a battery, put it in,
Magick happens! So that battery experience worked.

Yes the little suction fan is under the passenger side of the dash and the
tube runs up the A pillar and across. Apparently they disintegrate over
time. My little fan honked like a goose, but that noise was from under the
dash. If it is coming from the visor area it must be a suction phenomenon
related to the tube falling apart.

Re: [MBZ] OT - Interior Painting

2019-10-19 Thread Scott Ritchey via Mercedes
I've had good luck with those paint-in-handle rollers, there are several
brands, like Paint Stick.
https://www.amazon.com/HomeRight-PaintStick-EZ-Twist-C800952-M-Applicator/dp/B0102ZBALA
The long handle lets you reach high areas without a ladder. The handle (like a
big syringe) stores a lot of paint so you are not constantly going back to the
tray like a regular roller. The main downside is cleaning the roller (I was
too cheap to throw away a roller) but cleaning a sprayer is no joy either..

We've been getting a steady rain all day here in Chucktown, remains of a

So far it looks like no water on the floorboards, maybe tomorrow I'll take

That's a good bet, maybe you can swap housings, or at least maybe it will
be "close enough". Sometimes you can add a resistor in series to shift the

Thanks again Philip, really liking the FairEmail app. Just decided to pay for
the pro features after I had some time to get it set up just right.

AquaMail is very nice, but the cost of $2.50 per month in order to have
multiple accounts and get rid of the nagging ads was a deal killer.

I'm going to set up FairEmail on SWMBO's phone, I think she will be happy once
she learns how it works.

via the email that Pierre provided, I wouldn't mind a rust-free 92 300TE

would be at a pretty high risk for rust so I think I'm going to pass...
That and now that I've got this new E300 Diesel from Dan I really need to
thin out my fleet a bit to make room in the driveway for another project.

Congratulations!

Reminds me of when I bought an older Ford van about 1974. I was told the
driver's window was broken, so I did not look at any further.

When I sold it to a kid down the street, I saw him opening up the door
and, lo and behold, there was intact glass there. So it was the window
mechanism, not the window itself, which was broken. And to think I could
have avoided some cold driving ...

[MBZ] Stealer experience, and key fob

2019-10-19 Thread Buggered Benzmail via Mercedes

Graco is a quality tool... with a quality price. Can't touch one for less
than $400, and that is the low end one.
The Harbor Freight one is $160 on sale. I can own one, break it, buy
another one two times for what I pay for a Graco. Economy of scale says HF
wins..
If I were full time professional, Graco, and charge customers to pay for
it...
Otherwise..
Hire cheap help to do taping, buy HF unit... be done.

I watched crews paint with a 24" roller.   I do believe it would be
faster and far cheaper, and no overspray.   They had 2-4 people brushing
the trim, then they guy came in with the 24" roller and the room was
done.  No masking, except the steel door frames they had already painted

If I were gonna buy a sprayer, buy graco.   They have resale value.

I’ve used bulk sprayers before, both inside and outside a house, and really
like the speed at which you can paint large areas. However, I’m not sure I want
to go “all in” on this, either, as I’ll have plenty of time to do the work.

Anyone have any experience with the HF unit? As this will be pretty much unused

sell whatever I buy, or go on the cheep and hope all goes well and I get my

Latest flyer from Harbor Freight here shows the sprayer for $160.00.
Rental here would cost that much for two days.
My money goes for the HF unit. Own it, use it when you want. Done deal.

Airless rigs are the cats meow, IMHO the new HF units have pressure
regulation, which is REALLY good.. you can turn down the spray and control
what you shoot much easier.
Clean up is easy with a pail of clean water and dish

Back when I had rentals, I had tried a powered roller and it sucked.
I ended up buying an 18" roller and accessories to paint whole interiors
with. It was a bit pricey, but painting with a double width roller, the job
goes very quickly, especially when there are no color changes. Painting
the ceilings will give you arms like Ah-nold though. An eighteen inch roller,
on an extension pole, fully loaded with paint is quite heavy.

I don't know what kind of mileage he gets because I have not driven him on

Postal regulations passed by bureaucrats carry the weight of federal law. If
you go to a post office without street parking, you're unarmed for the entire
trip or you're a federal felon, because guns are banned on all USPS property,
including parking lots. I suppose you could just leave your gun in the street
before you drive into the lot.

In the matter of your package, I think it goes back if not picked up in ten
days.

That’s too bad. I love our postal carriers, they’re both great guys and will
always leave stuff in a safe place. Granted, my vast estate is maybe 40 feet
from the curb, but….

I also like that they’ll come to the door and ring the bell for Priority Mail
packages when I have one to go out. I just leave the flag up and stick a little
note saying I’ve got a package for pickup and they come right up and get it.

That being said, I regularly give them (cold) bottled water when I see them and
slip them a $20 around the holidays.

I had the same carrier for nearly 20 years, Miss Becky, and she rocked. Sadly,
she had knee issues and finally bailed because of them. We loved Miss Becky.

I was at the PO today to pick up a certified letter from my HOA bitching about
the oil stains on my driveway (bite me) and the guys at the windows were all
younger veterans who were pretty raucous. Long beards that were in braids,
major tats, etc. If you saw one of them in a bar you’d think they were gang
bangers or bikers. Nice guys.

Dan, you might think about a "power roller", a roller which is supplied
with a hose from a paint pump.

I’ve got one and I love it. Darned thing will blind you if you’re not careful.
The magnetic base is nice, too.

I bought some additional batteries and an external charger on the Island of
Large Wimmen for maybe $15, so I’ve always got a charged battery for it Makes
it a lot easier than using the internal USB charger.

You could always declare paint week, pick your colors, mask off the new house,
and shoot it in a day with a pro quality rental after all the prep is done.

Then get some pails of neutral paint and do the same with the old house after
you move out. How does two day's rent compare to a month's depreciation on the
HF unit?

[MBZ] Whinging

2019-10-19 Thread Floyd Thursby via Mercedes
I wanted to change the rear diff fluid on the $600E320, ordered some
from the large wimmins.  Get a notice will be delivered yesterday, which
wasn't 2 day prime but whatever.  So then yesterday about noon I'm
sitting here, get a message that the package couldn't be delivered at
the vast estate because there was no secure place to leave it.  Now the
mailbox is probably not big enough, but the worthless USPS "worker"
couldn't be arsed to drive down my driveway and leave it on the porch
like has been done many times before.  So they leave a note I can go to
the PO to pick it up.  The PO hours are stupid and the people who work
there are stupid so that is inconvenient and a pain in the arse too.

I get the Advance Auto email this morning, I look and they have the
stuff for 20% less than my order, so I ordered that online and will go
pick it up there in awhile, which I could have done the other day anyway
and saved all this agita.  I'm gonna tell Amazon they can have their
order back, let them deal with it.

I hate the post office.

Prep is the name of the game, for sure. The key here is that I will probably do
the place a room at a time, meaning that it won’t be a production shoot where I
go in and shoot a bunch of rooms or ceilings all at once. That’s why I’m on the

The only downside is you have to mask off everything, cover floors, which takes
