Re: [MBZ] Sears service?
I don't think they will fill them. I am guessing that they will just swap me for a different set, but I have not yet checked. That is what they do with the tank for the MIG welder. We have an AC stick welder as well as the MIG and now gas. The one issue I have is a lack of power in my garage. I really need to upgrade the feed from the house and the main panel in the house. I only have 100 Amp at the house and 30 Amp at the garage at the moment. That limits the amount of power to the stick welder and means I cannot run things like the compressor at the same time as the welder. On Fri, 7 Jun 2013 10:28:36 -0600 Craig wrote: I forgot about brazing: > Acetylene -- see https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Acetylene Welding Approximately 20 percent of acetylene is consumed for oxyacetylene gas welding and cutting due to the high temperature of the flame; combustion of acetylene with oxygen produces a flame of over 3600 K (3300 °C, 6000 °F), releasing 11.8 kJ/g. Oxyacetylene is the hottest burning common fuel gas.[11] Acetylene is the third hottest natural chemical flame after dicyanoacetylene's 5260 K (4990 °C, 9010 °F) and cyanogen at 4798 K (4525°C, 8180 °F). Oxy-acetylene welding was a very popular welding process in previous decades; however, the development and advantages of arc-based welding processes have made oxy-fuel welding nearly extinct for many applications. Acetylene usage for welding has dropped significantly. On the other hand, oxy-acetylene welding equipment is quite versatile – not only because the torch is preferred for some sorts of iron or steel welding (as in certain artistic applications), but also because it lends itself easily to brazing, braze-welding, metal heating (for annealing or tempering, bending or forming), the loosening of corroded nuts and bolts, and other applications. Bell Canada cable repair technicians still use portable acetylene fueled torch kits as a soldering tool for sealing lead sleeve splices in manholes and in some aerial locations. Oxyacetylene welding may also be used in areas where electricity is not readily accessible. As well, oxy-fuel cutting is still very popular and oxy-acetylene cutting is utilized in nearly every metal fabrication shop. For use in welding and cutting, the working pressures must be controlled by a regulator, since above 15 psi[12] acetylene will oligomerize explosively. 11. We have a sporting goods/clothing store (Sams in Swanzy, NH) that has popcorn. Its a good place because my wife can shop for clothes while I look at guns, bows, tents and such and eat popcorn. Sears used to be good. They would bend over backwards to make things right. Unfortunately, I think they are on their way to bankruptcy and have had to cut back so much that the service has become terrible, which will likely hasten their demise. I think the stock in the tool area is not nearly so good as it once was and you can forget after sales service. My son bought a big mechanic's toolbox setup from Sears. $2K on a good sale. Within a couple of years he was having issues with drawer slides. We have never been able to get parts for it. They don't seem to have any idea who made the box for them. I have tried for a year or two, on and off to find the slides and have given up. We can use normal slides from Lowe's but will have to drill and rivet because we cannot get the ones that would just drop into the clips. More than annoying. Talk to them in the store and they give you an 800# to call. Call the # and you get people who promise to find out and call back but never do. We have big Sears repair depot in the city and I have gone there and spent an hour with a nice young fellow who did his best to help but ultimately did not. He came up with a couple of names of companies that made toolboxes for them but I contacted both with details and both ultimately said the box was not made by them. So, no more Craftsman toolboxes for us EVER. Thus they long ago earned my monikers crapsman and dieEasy. Snap-On hex inserts are replaceable and held in with roll pins. Maybe buy just the replacement bit that goes in the socket, wrap some electrical tape over the end, and jam it in a 3/8" drive socket? (Snappy sells a 12mm in 3/8 drive, I'm sure, but I bet it costs $25) Wasn't too far off, the socket is $31. The replacement bit at $10 makes me want to cut the end off a $1 allen wrench though. [MBZ] Sears service?
Trying to find a 3/8" drive 12 mm Allen socket this morning, I tried to call the tools desk/shop at Snears. 'Can't even find a number in the local directories for STORE main #! There are several 800 and 888 #s listed for such as Home improvement items, siding, roofing, air conditioning, appliance installation and 2 or 3 other general categories, but no # related to tools. Called auto service hoping somebody could tell me a store main #, but could not get anybody to answer. Finally got a answer (in India it sounded like) on home improvement #; told 'im I was trying to reach tools dept at local store; 'gave me a # of somebody trying to take reservations for hotel suites. 'Said to SWMBO, "Can't find a local # for the Sears store." Few minutes later, I heard her in another room on the phone. She soon came in and handed me the phone while saying, "Here, talk to my husband." Guess what?! Same guy in India I had talked to 30 minutes earlier; gave me the same wrong #; told 'im, "30 minutes ago, all I could get on that # is somebody selling hotel reservations." Then he said, "Go on internet and find the tool in tools catalog." I did, but still unable to find anybody (clerk) to check shelf in local store for the item. 'Finally called friend who knows everybody in the county plus their phone numbers. He didn't have the # readily available but said he'd call back; called few min later and said, "Try this #." I recognized the # he gave me as the OLD (years ago) main store #; friend musta had it in his cell phone. I dialed the # - shonuff operator at local main store answered! 'Asked for tools dept; finally got answer; asked again for tools -mechanic's hand tools; 'put me on hold listening to damned music that I DON'T like for 15 minutes; finally hung up and dialed again; told operator, again, "Trying to reach tools dept/desk." On hold again 'bout 5 min; different guy came on asked him if they have "3/8 drive 12 mm Allen socket." 'Came back on in coupla mi nutes, "Biggest we have is 10mm." NEARLY TOW HOURS TO GET AN ANSWER! Sears service has gone to hell. Meanwhile, I found 1/2" drive 12 mm Allen socket at Autozone, but had to get package containing 2 larger Allen sockets also. 'Think I can punch the Allen wrench out of the 1/2 drive (or saw it off) and stick one end of it in a 3/8" drive 12 mm socket to "make" the 12 mm Allen socket I was trying to buy.
