QUICK QUESTION: Referencing MySQL
What year was the web page http://www.mysql.com/doc/S/t/Standards.html created/updated. Exact month and day would be helpful if it is available. OT: Relational Algebra Trees
Ok, Cards on the table, I have an assignment in soon and part of the deliverable is to design some relational algebra tree's based on some queries I have been given. This is one of the queries: SELECT id FROM Table1 WHERE id NOT IN (SELECT id FROM Table2); I have an idea that this query uses a left join after projecting id in both tables. If anyone can help me understand this a bit better, I would REALLY appreciate an email from you. Sorry for posting off-topic. RE: MySQL security
Are MySQL really going to give you details of their past security 'issues'? Think about it. Try going underground and looking on some exploit sites. DA Hi, I'm working on security breaches in MySQL. Unicode in 4.1
Hello, I need some details on the EXACT type of Unicode that MySQL will use 4.1. Ideally I'm looking for information on which type of Unicode MySQL will use internally, and which type it will return data to the user in; and is the MySQL Unicode implementation going to be phased in or with v4.1 will Unicode suddenly arrive? I need to know if MySQL will use UTF-8, UCS or whatever both for use internally and externally. Some (VERY) technical documentation on this subject would be appreciated. RE: Unicode in 4.1
So how (forgive me if this is a simpleton's question), how will UTF-8 and UCS2 be used? Can you elaborate a bit. DA Hi, Unicode in 4.1 will use UTF-8 and UCS2 with a possibility to recode between them (as well as between any supported character sets). Some (VERY) technical documentation on this subject would be appreciated. Sorry, this will not appear until the 4.1 branch is released -- and even then it will just be the end-user documentation that tells how to use the feature(s). If you would like some sort of a in-depth whitepaper, then you could hire some consulting services from our developers to write this for you. Please contact [EMAIL PROTECTED] if you are interested. OT: Installing QT client libraries
Hello all forgive me for posting off topic (again - that's only two!) I need to install the QT 2.2.2 client libraries on a Linux Mandrake 7.1 machine. I have created this app using Borland's delphi/kylix combo and it runs fine on my LM 8.1 machine (it must have qt installed by default maybe). But when I try and take the app to a LM 7.1 machine I get the obscure error: error in loading shared libraries: ./libqtintf.so: undefined symbol: event__14QMultiLineEditP6QEvent The app itself is a client program for MySQL (sort of). I recently noticed that MySQL have released a MyCC app which used the qt libraries which again makes me think that someone might be able to help. I have tried Borland's news-server but to no avail. The people on this list are always useful so I though I would give it a try. Having such a big *nix user base [as MySQL does] I thought someone must be able to help a bit. So I need some way of installing qt 2.2.2 or above on a LM 7.1 machine with NORMAL USER privileges. Can anyone tell me if this can be done, and if so how? Windows Version of MySQL licensing question?
I read in Paul's book that to use MySQL on a Windows platform you need to pay for it. I have downloaded a version of the server and client software from the official MySQL.com site and installed it on XP without incident. BLOB Help Please (Loading into table)
Hello, Thanks for your time. I'm having some problems loading images into a table. I'm using the statement: INSERT INTO BLOBTEST set b1=load_file'c:\1.jpg'); The table (blobtest) is made up of 2 columns : id1 (auto counter) and b1 (BLOB) When I try and run this statement (above) I get a record inserted with a value for the counter, but for the binary file - I get the value NULL. I have checked Pauls' book and it states about the load_file that NULL will be returned if: * the file doesn't exist on the server (it does - at c:\) * is not world-readable (I'm running xp so no unix ACL's but I'm running with admin rights) * user must have FILE privilages in mysql (I've dropped my old user and created a new one with grant all on test.* to orange@'%' identified by 'orange';) Any ideas why this is not working? - I just need to load an image to test things. ALSO can images be loaded without using the set statement? - IMPORTANT Thank you. OT: Unix Internals?
OK I have to admit I have an exam tomorrow. - Modern OS's! I would appreciate your thoughts. There are several questions I would love your educated help with. I have read documentation on the internet but some of it is very old and I'm not sure how trustworthy it is. (I'm mostly an NT user) 1) What are some of the tools that make Unix admin easy? For administering stuff like users/disk quotas/environment? - NT has the MMC console 2) Are there any specific programming demands on the operating system. Vague I know. I know programmers need compilers and stuff but is their anything specific which makes linux/unix good for programmers (as opposed to win32)? 2) What is the greatest file size possible in Unix? Using all 13 block addresses in the inode with the last 3 being 'special' is the largest file Unix can handle 1 or 2.5gb? Is this always based on 512 byte blocks 3) I understand that dates and time's for files (last modified/accessed) are 64bit (8byte) to avoid 2031 problem? 4) Is their a limit to how many files a directory can contain? A dir is the same as a file with a different mode. I assume that the 13 data blocks are used to store a pointer to each file in the directory. This would limit files in one directory to: 10 + 170 (first special block) + 28,900 (170 * 170 second special block) + 4913000 (3rd special block 170 * 170 * 170) = 4,942,080. Nearly 5 million. Clearly this is not a great restriction but are my fundamentals correct? Any gems you would like to offer gratefully received Sorry for an off-topic post. PLEASE READ: Porting Windows VC++ MySQL Proggie to Linux\Unix
I appreciate that this might be a bit off topic but any help would be appreciated. I need to port this program (attached) to the Linux environment. This is the first program I have attempted to port. Has anyone ever had to port from Windows to Linux\Unix, and if so how did it go and what tools did you use. I have downloaded cygwin for windows, is this going to be any use? The program itself simply uses the mysql++ API library to connect to the server, run a query and then exit. Parts of the program that might cause me problems are the headers I think, because what is Linux for: #include iostream #include iomanip #include include\mysql++ Please I really just need a starting point; someone to say you need this tool you can download it at www.thistool.com. EXPORTING DATA: OK, this might be a bit general but..
I need some advice on how to export a tables data to import later into Access. This export HAS to be automated (and I'm using VC++ API for MySQL) The problems I'm faced with are (1) Before I can import this data into access I have to create the table in access; I'm familiar with ADO and creating both tables and databases automatically in a C++ proggie, but how can I find out the tables structure - I suppose I can issue a query - DESCRIBE thistable; (2) Adding records to access (ADO will have methods to do this thought I would have thought). (3) The biggest problem I can see is getting the data from a mysql server (where-ever it may be) to reside locally (the computer issuing the command) so that I can then reference it and add it to an access database through ADO. How can I get this data (effectively a select * from to table) to reside on the local machine. Ideally what I want is export * from table to file.txt - I know I'm wishing on a star here. What's the easiest way to do this thought? How can I use a SELECT to send the output to a file?? (4) I will need to insert data into MySQL. I've learnt that I can do this with a LOAD DATA ... But is this issued in the same way as a query is sent to the server. It is essential to add data through the mysql server not an add-on program shipped with MySQL. I have a problem that I don't want the overhead of ODBC, or the reliance on other programs bundled with MySQL because the host I'm connecting to could be Windows, Linux, Unix Sparc etc... Have a think and I'll appreciate any input you have to offer. Please bear in mind that all operations MUST BE AUTOMATED. MYSQL++: Any ideas why this code causes the program to crash?
I wrote this program in VC++ using the MYSQL++ API for VC. I have a generic function (below) which I call numerous times each time with a different query string. It works fine the first time around. But the second time I call this function it causes the program to crash. I think it could be that a constructor is called but no deconstructor. Could this be the problem? Result res = query.store(); // Query::store() executes the query and returns the results Row row; cout.setf(ios::left); // cout setw(17) Database Name endl endl; Result::iterator i; for (i = res.begin(); i != res.end(); i++) { row = *i; cout setw(17) row[0] setw(4) row[1] setw(7) row[2] setw(7) row[3] row[4] endl; } cout endl Records Found: res.size() endl; return 1; } --END OF CODE-- ANY INPUT APPRECIATED Thanks lots David Ayliffe ([EMAIL PROTECTED]) - Before posting, please check: http://www.mysql.com/manual.php (the manual) http://lists.mysql.com/ (the list archive) To request this thread, e-mail [EMAIL PROTECTED] To unsubscribe, e-mail [EMAIL PROTECTED] Trouble unsubscribing? Microsoft Access - MySQL Data Conversions
1) Whats the easiest way to convert data from Microsoft Access TO MySQL? (i'm thinking export a table using VB (with recordsets,) format into MySQL format and then mysql msaccess.dump into MySQL via a C++ proggie) 2) And the easiest way to convert data from MySQL TO MS Access? (Using C++ API to get data from a mysql table. then I get stuck. How could I automatically import it into MS Access DB of users choice, formatting etc??) ANY ideas appreciated Thanks lots David Ayliffe ([EMAIL PROTECTED])
Simple C++ question
Its been a while since i've last touched c++ and i'm trying to include two files stdio.h and mysql.h I know that to include stdio.h I enclose it in but mysql.h is in the same folder as the project I know I can't use but what do I use instead? Thanks lots David Ayliffe ([EMAIL PROTECTED])
Error MYSQL.H 107 Too many types in declaration
Welcome and thanks for the time in reading this. I have a simple proggie below. When I try and compile it I get the error above (subject) the error points to this part of mysql.h - the part specifically is highlighted in red. I am compiling it on Win2K SP2 with Borland C++ v4.52 I can't see any reason why this wouldn't work. Can you?? I also get 5 warnings: WARNING MYSQL.CPP LineNo: Temporary used for parameter 1 in call to 'istream::operator (int )' in function main() - Well seeing as I have a problem anyway it seems silly not to mention it! extract from mysql.h #if defined(NO_CLIENT_LONG_LONG) typedef unsigned long my_ulonglong; #elif defined (__WIN__) typedef unsigned __int64 my_ulonglong; #else typedef unsigned long long my_ulonglong; #endif end of extract CODE // Program: Client proggie to connect to mysql server. Do I need special libraries to write C++ client programs
I'm following the exmple in the book MySQL by Paul DeBous (chapter 6 The MySQl C API page 225). I am getting an error about Too many types in declaration Do I need to download any special libraries - currently I am using the ones in the mysql-3.23.38a-win-src.zip file (mysql.h, mysql_com.h, mysql_version.h) // Program: Client proggie to connect to mysql server.
