[newbie-it] Problemi con Ati Rage fury
Alberto

The evolution mailing list is a really good resource for evolution specific questions. It's a little high volume, though. Also there is an IRC room on irc.gnome.org called #evolution . All you have to do is make sure that sendmail is running, by typing '/etc/rc.d/init.d/sendmail status' at the command line as root. You do not use sendmail to check for new e-mail. It is used to 'transport' e-mail from one location (domain) to another (much as one uses a car to get to and from work, but not to do work). how will i know if got mail and how will i read it. Re: [newbie] Question about accessing windows mount
I would guess that linux does not yet have support for whatever NTFS is included with XP, since the last I heard, read / write support for NTFS 4 was still very experimental, and NTFS 5 support was virtually non-existant. Since NTFS is a proprietary binary-only filesystem, linux does not support it very well yet. Of course, with the DMCA, it is probably illegal to even try to reverse engineer it. You may want to see if he has the option of converting a small part of the hard-drive to fat32, which linux has much better support for. RE: [newbie] AOL newbie sendmail problem
I would have stuck with postfix if I were you, its much more secure then sendmail, its faster, smaller and easier as well. if you start postfix or sendmail on boot (run: ntsysv from a prompt) and you recieve mail, it will go into the user account for whole the mail was addressed. if postfix or sendmail is set to receive mail for mydomain.com then mail for [EMAIL PROTECTED] will be delieverd to the local delivery agent, (don't worry about that, postfix will take care of setting up local delivery for you) and it will be delivered to the user1 on that system.. which pine or kmail or any others can collect for you via pop3 or imap.. if you have imap installed, then pop3 is also installed since they come in the same package, it depends which one you turn on.. (go into /etc/xinetd and look for the pop3 file, open it and remove disable=yes then restart xinetd or your computer) I suggest you start by going to linuxdoc.org and having a read of the mail howtoo's just to give you a better understanding of it all.. rgds Frank -Original Message- From: [EMAIL PROTECTED] [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED]]On Behalf Of AOL Systems Sent: Sunday, 4 November 2001 1:44 PM To: [EMAIL PROTECTED] Subject: [newbie] AOL newbie sendmail problem Importance: High I've installed sendmail in my linux box .then i want to send e-mail.What is the command to receive and get mails in sendnmail program.how will i know if got mail and how will i read it.and how will i know if it is PAP or IMAP that i installed. [newbie] Kernel panic
My newly installed LM8.0 now halts during bootup with the message Kernel panic: VFS: Unable to mount root fs on 03:05. I must have done something to cause this, but beats me what. Booting with the floppy produces the same results. Booting into Windows 95 (this is a dual boot machine) now shows about 2 seconds of garbage on the screen between the boot bitmap and the appearance of the GUI -- not that this bothers me; I mention it as a possible symptom. What might this be? How do I fix it? How do I avoid screwing it up again? Thanks in advance, Warren -- http://sites.netscape.net/srcopan/ Want to buy your Pack or Services from MandrakeSoft? Re: [newbie] Another Sound problem
I had intermittent sound problems under KDE until I told it to use OSS instead of ALSA. The easiest way to check/change is to go to the Configuration menu, then KDE, then Sound and finally, Sound Server. On the General tab, make sure the Start aRTS Soundserver on KDE startup is checked (if it's not, that's probably your problem). On the Sound IO tab, change the method to Open Sound System (mine was autodetect). When you hit reply, it will warn you something about possibly locking up apps using sound. If you have any apps open close them and then tell it to restart the sound server. You can go back to the General tab and press the Test Sound button to see if it made a difference. Re: [newbie] Nvidia Nforce mainboards are here...
Frank, I think you're wise to hold off on this one for now as Derek and yourself have said. Look what happened with the KT133A... I rushed out and bought a Soltek SL-75KAV with that chipset only to find that the VIA bug thing is a bit of a pain and Mandrake had to provide a workaround in a big hurry. Because of this in LM8.0 my hd ran much slower than it should have, others were not able to burn CDs (I didn't have that prob) and I think there were a few other problems. Although in LM8.1 my hd runs faster :-) I'm still a bit p*ssed off that I was hasty in buying the latest and the greatest. And I hate seeing the Applying (??) workaround message when booting. I've learned my lesson so I'm going to wait a wee while to see if the Nforce works with linux. Hope so. skinky On Sun, 04 Nov 2001 01:31, Franki wrote: | From what I can gather, Nforce will have linux drivers, (Nvidia have | pledged to this) | | but apparently they will be partially closed source like the detonator | drivers. | | The first question I have is will linux install well enough to let you | install the drivers? | | the second is that while I have no doubts that future bios revisions | and driver updates will | dramatically improve its performance, (who remembers the very first | detonators?) how long will it | be before they release the updates and will the whole kernel thing have | to be gone through each time..?? | | maybe I will go with the KT266A since there is currently so little in | it.. | | at least until more is known.. | | | rgds | | | Frank | | | | | | -Original Message- | From: [EMAIL PROTECTED] | [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED]]On Behalf Of Derek Jennings | Sent: Saturday, 3 November 2001 8:20 PM | To: [EMAIL PROTECTED]; [EMAIL PROTECTED] | Subject: Re: [newbie] Nvidia Nforce mainboards are here... | | | Your choice is ultimately your own, and I agree it is a hot looking | chipset, but I would suggest a note of caution. | | Firstly the nForce is unique in that it has a single driver for the | entire chipset. [newbie] gdm broken in 8.1?
Hello everyone, I was just wondering if anyone else has had this problem: I switched from using kdm to gdm for my login manager, since I prefer the Gnome desktop. However, gdm fails to remember my last session, and also resets the default session to kde every time I reboot (it's a laptop, so I reboot often). Needless to say, this gets a bit annoying, that I must set it to use Gnome every time I login to the system. When I was using Mandrake 7.2, both gdm and kdm worked fine. Kdm works fine in 8.1, but gdm is definitely screwed up. I can see that there is a file in my ~/.gnome/ directory (session or something like that) which contains the last session I was in. However, gdm is apparently ignoring this. And of course, if I set the default to Gnome, it resets when I reboot the system. Anyone else run into this? Is there a fix?
