RE: [newbie] Adaptec SCSI Installation AVA 1505
Well, the full story is : Portbase = 0x340this is jumpered on the board IRQ = 9 this too is jumpered on the board SCSI ID = 7 which is fairly standard recconect is enabled parity is enabled synchronous is enabled delay = 500 extended translation is disabled thus we get the command insmod aha152x aha152x=0x340,9,7,1,1,0,500,0 and for a glorious half hour last night that seemed to be accepted so that when I checked KDE/Information/IRQ against 9 it said AHA152x and against KDE/Information/Ports against 340 it said AHA152x. dmesg identified the board and wqas suggesting ftape as a tape device - even though that didn't seem to work. Anyway, now the command insmod etc no longer works, I have the same error message I started with: Using /lib/modules/2.2.17-21mdk/scsi/aha152x.o: init_module: Device or resource busy Hint: insmod errors can be caused by incorrect module parameters including invalid IO or IRQ parameters and dmesg says: aha152x: BIOS test: passed, detected 1 controller(s) aha152x0: vital data: PORTBASE=0x340, IRQ=9, SCSI ID=7, recconect=enabled parity=enabled, synchronous=disabled, delay=500, extended translation=disabled aha152x: trying software interrupot, lost. aha152x: IRQ 9 possibly wrong. Please verify. So in the words of the prophet and philosopher Foul Ole Ron - 'buggrit, millenium hand and shrimp, I tole 'em.' Hello, I'm not very sure, but /dev/scd0 is a special device, so it must be mount on a directory (mount -t filesystem /dev/scdo /directory and add the line in /etc/fstab : /dev/directory ext2 noauto,dev=/dev/scd0,... or something like this, look at the other lines ;-)). The closest I have come is if I type linux at the prompt that comes up with the 7.1 cdrom install disk. Then if I just follow the basics and let it autoprobe it finds the SCSI card and all 4 SCSI devices that I have on the system (1 cdrom and 3 drives). But the stinking install still can't mount /dev/scd0. It seems the location the script is attempting to mount is none existent. Didier Galland wrote: Hello, I have an adaptec aha152b. Re: [newbie] adaptec scsi aha152x
Thanks Didier for the reply I tried the modprobe, no luck, so I reinstalled. This time just entered 0140,10,7,1 at the SCSI setup option. (the install book not clear here) Only other problem was that I needed to edit /etc/fstab to change the /mnt/zip from the vfat automatically set up to ext2 for linux.. I can access zip disk OK. Another question tho - there doesnt seem to be any way with this system to mount the zip drive on the desktop by right-clicking the zip icon. There seems to be only one icon showing, for either a mounted or unmounted zip drive. I edited /etc/fstab to make the zip and floppy drives noauto for mounting. Bill Hello, I have an adaptec aha152b. I am having no luck getting Mandrake 7.1 to install with any Adaptect controller. I have tried a 1542, 1542cf and 2940. All seem to find the card but won't hit the devices connected to the card. This is keeping me from getting 7.1 to install. This problem didn't exist with 7.0. Seems like a big problem with how popular SCSI is with old time UNIX people. This was not a problem with Mandrake 6.0, 6.5 or 7.0. I always down load a iso file and burn my own CD prior to purchasing a full copy. I won't be buying if it won't work on my system(s). I would think someone needs to get this fixed. I reported this as a bug but still don't see it show up on any of the bug lists. Does anyone know when/if a reported bug will show up? I don't see vary many bugs showing up on ver.7.1 yet but I don't know how long it really takes for them to show. "Eric A. Ensure that you have reserved the IRQ and DMA resources for this card in the motherboard BIOS. Regards, Richard
