Thanks Hans. It works for me :) Relating the output (\blacktriangleright and
\blacktriangle) to some figure I have created with latex + tikz I do not see
any difference.

To make it short: I think Hans is correct. From my perspective there is an
error in char-def.lua for "blacktriangleleft" and secondly the internet page I
have looked this up is not consistent with what is implemented in ConTeXt, both
facts of which lead me into the wrong direction (see below (P.S.), if you are
interested).

P.S.: When I started to look into this I thought it might be possilble to
define some command in the preamble of my document that uses unicode. From
searching the internet I found

which says "The \blacktriangle command is valid only in math mode. Its
translation is ▴ (Unicode U+25B4, ▴)".
However, there indeed is a problem (which I have not spotted in the first
place). I had a look at char-def.lua which at first confirmed my impression on
using small triangels:

For the blacktriangleright we have:

correct and it indeed is not the small ones but the big tirangles.

Here's a backward-compatibility hack that works on your minimal example. Maybe
it will save the dozens of files without changing all the &s:

[NTG-context] itemize behaviour
I do not understand the workings of the itemize. What I want is two nested itemlists. The outer one unpacked, the inner one packed. In the inner one the itemlist should be joinedup with the text before it. I do not get this working, see the examples. The inner list is separated from the "Intro to inner list". It looks like the joinedup in the second example has no effect, because deleting it makes no difference. Switching the joinedup over to the outer itemize in the third example pulls everything together and destroys the unpacked of the first list. change/remove it because
head uses the normal item symbol but when you move the entries at a deeper
level you can use the empty

When you have many symbols which you want to put in a category you can say
\startsymbolset []

and omit the first argument. To print a symbol from this symbolset you have to

but when you add
\setupsymbolset[]
to your document ConTeXt will search in this symbol set even when you write only

The symbols are defined in symb-imp-mvs.mkiv, with \usesymbols[…] you load the
file.

The symbols are just put in named groups and “martinvogel 2” is the name of one
of these groups (there is also “martinvogel 1”, don’t know how created these
names).
When you define a symbol you can set the name as
\definesymbol[]{}
or out it in a category with
\definesymbol[][]{}
When you have many symbols which you want to put in a category you can say
\startsymbolset []
\definesymbol[]{}
\definesymbol[]{}
\stopsymbolset
and omit the first argument. To print a symbol from this symbolset you have to
write
\symbol[][]
but when you add
\setupsymbolset[]
to your document ConTeXt will search in this symbol set even when you write only
\symbol[]

[NTG-context] Zapf Dingbats font
Can the Zapf Dingbats font be used in MKIV? I can't do it work I have downloaded the symb-uni-zapf.zip<http://dl.contextgarden.net/websitesarchive/atl/tex/symb-uni-zapf.zip> file from http://dl.contextgarden.net/websitesarchive/atl/tex/. Then I unpacked it and copied the .tfm, .enc and .map files in texmf-context/fonts as well as symb-uzd.tex in texmf-context/tex/context/third I then run mtxrun --script fonts --reload and context --generate I tried usetypescriptfile[symb-uzd.tex] \usesymbols[uzd] \symbol[Unicode Shadowed Shapes][LowerRightDrop-shadowedWhiteSquare] but it doesn't work. [NTG-context] How to typeset recipe symbol for a doctor's prescription pad
Good day!
Been trying to typeset a prescription pad template for a doctor but am
stumped at the recipe symbol. Searched the internet for help but I just
couldn't find it.
Hope someone who has tried using this symbol in MKIV can help me with this
one.

Dear all, I defined enumerations "Theorem", "Proof", and "Example" as in the sample code. It works fine, but I'd like to arrange it in better shape. 1. Theorem 1 and it's proof look good. 2. The proof of Theorem 2 i) when I use \startitemize it starts from the next line not immediately after "Proof". Q: How to start the sentence right after "Proof"? ii) after \stopitemize, it changes the line and put blacksquare at the end. So, there is a blank line always. Q: How to place blacksquare at the end of the last line of the sentence? iii) leading symbol of itemize, "b" is inside the figure. Q: How to correct this or is it possible to place the figure at the right side? 3. I'd like to put "Example" and it's number in a frame, but I couldn't. Is there a way of doing that? Hi,
It is not a bug. It is standard TeX: a space counts after "}" and is ignored
immediately after a control sequence such as "\item". To override either, you
have to be explicit, "\ignorespaces" as Hans suggested in your case and "\ "
(backslash-space) in the other to put a space in. My preferred, idiosyncratic,
pedantic way to ignore spaces in this case is a comment symbol and newlines:

\startitemize
\item
This is just a normal completely innocent paragraph against which one will be
able to judge the amount of indentation of the next paragraph.
\item\inmargin{Duck}%
This paragraph has a duck inmargin comment
\stopitemize
\stoptext
But I like newlines in my code, probably because I started editing text on
24x80 crt that would show only the first 80 characters of a line.

I don’t really need the fancybreak module, just an interspace
without indent after it. \noindent doesn’t work. How to?
A few internal command names have changed over the time and you need
either a older version of the module
I thought I tried an older version, but perhaps not hard enough...
or you use this simple definition for the \Space command.

I tried
\setupnotation[footnote][way=bypage,numberconversion=set 2]
and this works, (I just corrected the wiki)
sort-of:
If one manages to get a footnote reference at the bottom of a page,
where there is no room to place the footnote, and there is at least one
footnote reference on the following page, this results in two successive
footnotes having the same reference number (or symbol)!
This is a bug.
What about \startfootnote \stopfootnote and \autoinsertnextspace ?

When I run this example I don’t get the symbol unless I enable the indicator: %\setupnote[footnote][indicator=yes] This was an unknown option for me, it wasn’t used in the document. My old ConTeXt ver: 2012.03.05 is updated now and without indicator=no it’s solved now. One footnote is placed on the next side because of lack of space. This arrangement is displayed by a triangular symbol. Is it possible to replace this symbol by a more appropriate (self-defined) character or switch off this feature? Is there a reason the make them into math commands, I think it’s better the
define them
as “contextname=…” to let them behave as in MkII where \textcomma is defined as
enco-def.mkii:\definecharacter textcomma ,
enco-def.mkii:\definecharacter textperiod.

environment file:

Also, should it have been \setupnote or \setupnotation?

[NTG-context] \doteq math symbol is hidden in standalone minimals
Hello all,
What is the problem when \doteq math symbol is hidden in standalone
ConTeXt (minimals) - latest version?
I suppose that is a problem in mathematical font. Can this be solved?
In ConTeXt MKIV TL2011 everything runs normally.
Here is my example:

[NTG-context] Seeking the incompatibility of versions of ConTeXts
Hello all,
I am seeking the incompatibility of ConTeXt minimals standalone and
ConTeXt MKIV, which is part of TeXLive the 2011. While TeXLive 2011
ConTEXt MKIV translates example bottom easily then standalone MKIV gives
an error. An example is taken from wiki.contextgarden.
Just for the record: I am using with success this solution with few
luascrips for a simple bibliography (sorting etc.), but only in ConTEXt
MKIV TeXLive 2011. I want use it in mimimals standalone too.

ConTeXt uses the type of the item group in the first level also for the inner
levels
and handles the inner \startblist as if it was \startnlist.

I just noticed that the last line of my code was
\startnlist
when it should have been
\stopnlist
It was correct in my code, but too much fiddling and trying things made it
wrong when I copied it across to the email. Even with the correct line in
there, my problem still exists.

I think the texts are generated from your PDF viewer because Reader.app on the
Mac
shows for me “Zur nächsten Seite” on the first page and “Zur vorherigen Seite”
on
the second page but with Adobe Reader I don’t get any tooltips.

Hi all, Also with the todays beta I am unable to get Martin Vogel symbols. If \showsymbols[martinvogel 2] is used a long list of symbols is typeset, but not what is defined as this symbolset. Calling \setupsymbolset[atronomic] \symbol[zodiac] does result in the text zodiac in the document. Thank you, always. At the moment, the baseline of the first line of the
margin note aligns with the baseline of the main text line. Even in the
general case, I think it would look better to have the top aligned.
In the margin ruby, this presents a slight problem as a second ruby will
now look as though it belongs to the next line. Is there a way to align
the top of the lines, or is there a hack that just shifts a margin note
by a few pts? (There is a "low" flag, but no high flag, I think...)

[NTG-context] Simple bibliography
Hello ConTeXist.
Unfortunately, I give up. The standard way to use the bibliography fail
(output still is not sorted in the order they came citing). I can not
even after many hours of testing and experimenting get win. Therefore I
decide that I am looking now other ways. Does anyone have experience
with simplebibliography in contextgarden
(http://wiki.contextgarden.net/Simple_Bibliography)?
Solve someone something like that? Has anybody a simple minimal example?
From information from wikipedia I do not make functional example
(especially the first case). Second case is very simple and
understandable, but now I looking for a way to automate the sorting
(that the order is not what I require).
Or exist something similar? Can you please advise me a way to get the
better of a very simple bibliography without using standart bibliography
system of ConTeXt?
Sorry to inundating these bibliographic questions, but I need to somehow
resolve my problem in the near future and looking for every possibility,
where to get something that would help me.

ConTeXt checks if the argument of \setupitemgroup has an assignment
(key=value), then it calls a version of \setparameters; otherwise it calls
a version of \processcommalist. So, if you use assignments and options in
the same command, the options get ignored.
All ConTeXt commands behave like this.
You can use
\setupitemgroup
[article]
[command=\blank]

Why do you expect \setuphead to change the way itemgroups behave?
Because I can't make any sense of the thousands of pages of ConTeXt
documentation scattered everywhere with little apparent rhyme or reason
to its usage and with everything other than whatever it is that I seem
to need present in them.
If you define a command using \define<...>, then you configure it using
\setup<>. Other than a few exceptions, that's how it is.
Use
\setupitemgroup
[article]
[color=...]
I tried that and it did nothing.
\definecolor[colour_text][r=0.754,g=0.516,b=0.324]
\setupitemgroup
[article]
[color=colour_text]

Apart from cluttering the logfile, I guess this hbox overflow signals something
that can be bettered.
not always, if it looks ok to you you can just ignore it (or add
\dontcomplain) i.e. depending on alignment excessive content will lap
left or right anyway (an example: say that you number 1..9 and there is
one itemize with 10 items ... you might not want to change all widths
for this one case (and 10 is often rather ok, while 44 isn't)
the same can happen with margin texts, where in practice the width only
matters when you use backgrounds or have things side by side or ...
