Hi Bruno My app got approved around July 4 but I was not aware of it until last week since I didn't get any notification. I think that I've even mistakenly submitted a Google doc application per new guidelines - I hope it will be dismissed since the app was actually online 3 weeks before the new submission process was introduced. thanks for your help On Monday, July 30, 2012 9:31:44 PM UTC+3, Bruno Oliveira (Google) wrote: Hi anatoly, We've recently changed the app submission process on Orkut and now apps are hopefully being reviewed and approved more quickly. At least that's how it *should* happen :-) I've tested /PublicAppInfo myself while not logged in (which mimics the way the adsense crawler would see it) and indeed it does not perform any redirections that I could tell... [orkut-developer] Re: Bug with gadgets.views.requestNavigateTo (Leave this page popup)
Hi Bruno thanks for reply. It happens in Google Chrome only, but it seems like the most popular browser on orkut I think... I use it for navigation with parameters, i.e. var canvas_view = new gadgets.views.View(canvas); gadgets.views.requestNavigateTo(canvas_view, params); and then on the page I use it, i.e. to get parameter var navigatedParams = gadgets.views.getParams(); everything works though, it's just an alert that bothers users. thanks On Monday, April 9, 2012 7:56:14 PM UTC+3, Bruno Oliveira (Google) wrote: Hi, Thanks for reporting. [orkut-developer] Re: robots.txt issue on orkut.com.br - blocking adsense crawler
Hi Bruno there are several issues: 1) users should not land on /Application.aspx at all. You have an issue with url rewriting in implementation of gadgets.views.requestNavigateTo(canvas_view, params); this call land on /Application.aspx rather than on /Application this should be fixed, I think it influences the crawler. 2) I'm not sure either /Application.aspx or /Application are behind the login. Should they be behind the login? It's on the part of the app to check the viewer, and if it is null it should display a link to install, I think that is the flow explained to us by orkut team over the years, (i.e. there should not be automatic redirect to install page). 3) I'm getting also a lot of adsense crawler errors that the content is behind the login on urls of the type: http://682hjovlc0q8jnnr2ueel60s3q6v6sjc.a.orkut.gmodules.com/gadgets/ifr?url=http ... http://k0bd715biegqe7vcf80atgebi24ng48e.a.orkut.gmodules.com/gadgets* /ifr?url=http*... http://o4c1teg8q13go818l55a4f0shnhr6r12.a.orkut.gmodules.com/gadgets* /ifr?url=http*... http://1kkb0un3av50ln5f3963qgkj20jmneil.a.orkut.gmodules.com/gadgets* /ifr?url=http*http://1kkb0un3av50ln5f3963qgkj20jmneil.a.orkut.gmodules.com/gadgets/ifr?url=http **... etc. Adsense crawler can crawl over authenticated pages if it can land on them, i.e. if there is no redirect, etc. I get thousands of crawler errors from adsense to fix, while you should get them and not orkut developers since it is entirely out of developer's control. Since adsense and orkut is the same company, I think it depends on your teams cooperation to resolve it and improve adsense quality. At the end of the day google would earn more if there are more relevant adsense ads. thanks On Thursday, March 15, 2012 10:37:56 PM UTC+2, Bruno Oliveira (Google) wrote: Hello, So, I've been discussing this with the engineers here. [orkut-developer] Re: Stats not updated
I'm sorry but what you just did is ranking based on weekly users. It's totally wrong. Weekly users maybe one of the factors. Once you had a sophisticated formula with weights of page impressions. What happened to that formula? You should also count the time spent on the app per user per visit - this is the measurement of the quality of the app. Ranking based simply on weekly users is wrong and people will outspam and game the system. -- You received this message because you are subscribed to the Google Groups orkut Developer Forum group. [orkut-developer] Re: robots.txt issue on orkut.com.br - blocking adsense crawler
I'm not sure it is related solely to requestNavigateTo there are several app urls 1) orkut links (for example from profile page) http://www.orkut.com/Main#Application?uid=1234appId=1234 2) PublicAppInfo http://www.orkut.com/Main#PublicAppInfo?appId=1234 which redirects to http://www.orkut.com/Main#Application?appId=1234 (which is similar to #1) 3) orkut implementation of OpenSocial method requestNavigateTo goes to *http://www.orkut.com/Application.aspx?appId=1234appParams=bla*http://www.orkut.com/Application.aspx?appId=1234appParams=bla which briefly redirects to http://www.orkut.com/Main#Application.aspx?appId=1234appParams=bla adsense crawler reports errors on http://www.orkut.com/Application.aspx and *http://www.orkut.com/Application* since /Application.aspx and /Application are blocked by robots.txt These are real urls before url rewrite so somehow it might be related to url rewrite on orkut. In any case you can just solve it by adding User-agent: Mediapartners-Google Disallow: to robots txt (or just allow /Application.aspx and /Application for Mediapartners-Google) which will not effect other crawlers It will be in any case for Google's benefit (and for developers benefit). -- You received this message because you are subscribed to the Google Groups orkut Developer Forum group. In any case unrelated to crawlers error you can unify */Main#Application.aspx?appId=1234appParams=bla* ** with */Main#Application?appId=1234appParams=bla* ** as */Main#Application* ** is a standard scheme on orkut and only requestNavigateTo uses Application.aspx -- You received this message because you are subscribed to the Google Groups orkut Developer Forum group. [orkut-developer] Re: robots.txt issue on orkut.com.br - blocking adsense crawler
Hello Bruno Google Adsense crawler crawls the page where the ad tag is placed - it is on the application page which is an iframe on orkut, when the crawler sees that the page is the iframe it attempts to crawl it's parent page (in our case it is /Application, /Application.aspx) which is blocked by robots.txt. Somehow it detects that the page is /Application and not /Main#Application. I suspect the issue might be with url rewriting from /Application to /Main#Application I suggest to at least change requestNavigateTo implementation to redirect to /Main#Application instead of /Main#Application.aspx to make it standard. Otherwise .aspx looks like a redundant orkut url format for pages. -- You received this message because you are subscribed to the Google Groups orkut Developer Forum group. [orkut-developer] robots.txt issue on orkut.com.br - blocking adsense crawler
To orkut team: Since last week due to some issue on robots.txt in orkut.com.br google adsense crawler has troubles reaching applications pages on the site. Which causes less targeted ads and less revenue for devwelopers and for google. This is the email we got from adsense: We noticed that our AdSense ad crawler is having some difficulty crawling some parts of your site on orkut.com.br. Specifically, we've detected 696,147 failed crawl requests over a 4-day period last week, which is caused by an issue within your robots.txt file. Essentially, this file is blocking certain sections of your site from our AdSense ad crawler. Because of this, your AdSense ads are less targeted and are generating less revenue on average. Fortunately, you can fix this issue today by editing your robots.txt file and giving our AdSense ad crawler the ability to view your site. To do this, find your robots.txt file, located at orkut.com.br/robots.txt and add the following two lines at the very top: User-agent: Mediapartners-Google Disallow: Please add the above lines to robots.txt. Please note this change will not affect search and is only related to adsense crawler. thanks a lot -- You received this message because you are subscribed to the Google Groups orkut Developer Forum group. [orkut-developer] Ads rendering and a new parser on orkut
Hi Since the new parser was announced on orkut I don't see significant issues except one which I'm not 100% sure it is related. We've noticed that there are less ad views reported for google adsense we host on our orkut apps. This started after the new parser was announced on orkut. I wonder if this is related or did anyone else noticed something similar? We have similar traffic numbers as before, however our ad reports numbers dropped. This happens only on orkut for us. In addition there is now a huge discrepancy in numbers reported between 2 different ad units on the same page (which did not happen before). We have similar setup on other platforms, but we observe this behavior on orkut only and it just started recently. Hi Bruno It once happened to me that I reported about a malicious app via DMCA and the genuine original app was disabled by mistake instead of the malicious one. Question: what about existing applications that have name conflicts? They will not be checked unless they change their names. If there are existing applications with conflicting names, we have no way to decide which one is the right one, so we won't take down any of them. [orkut-developer] Re: AppReviewer now checking live apps -- you may receive e-mails!
today I got another series of identical emails which look like so: - The app took too long to load. Some of the possible reasons for this are: (1) perhaps you are displaying a modal dialog (popup). If this is the case, please remove the popup; (2) perhaps the code that executes when the page loads is taking too long to finish. Are you doing too much processing? An infinite loop? Are you performing a synchronousoperation involving the network?; (3) perhaps you are trying to load too many resources (images, media, scripts, etc). Perhaps it's best to cut back on resources or load them later instead of trying to do that when the page is first shown; (4) there might be a vulnerability in the way user-generated-content is rendered, that is, perhaps there is a way to exploit your application to make it run arbitrary code. Please sanitize all user- generated content, including names, comments, messages, titles and other fields. I checked and all mentioned apps are loading just fine and fast. It looks like another false positive. Not to mention no popups are used and also some of the apps in uestion are so light that do not use external scripts or any images - and yet I get these emails. Other apps do use scripts and images but that should not be an issue since modern sites all use images. All images are cached btw. Is it neccessary to send this kind of emails? thanks On Feb 17, 12:00 am, Bruno Oliveira (\btco\) bru...@google.com wrote: Yes, for now AppReviewer doesn't know who got the name first, so he sends both authors the same warning about the duplicate name. [orkut-developer] Re: New features: configurable app width and container version!
Hi Bruno Can you please clarify, if I don't change anything the width would be 835 as it is today? Is it correct? thanks On Feb 22, 5:04 am, Bruno Oliveira (\btco\) bru...@google.com wrote: Hello orkut developers, We now support two cool new features for gadgets in canvas view: - Container version detection - Flexible application width A quick introduction follows. We hope you enjoy them! They're enabled on sandbox and should reach production soon. If you have any feedback, please let us know! *Container Version Detection* The Container Version is supplied to your gadget in a new iframe parameter (containerVersion) in canvas view, so it can be retrieved like this: var containerVersion = gadgets.util.getUrlParameters()[containerVersion]; Its value is 1 for the canvas view container in the old orkut UI and 2 for the canvas view container in the new orkut UI. You can read this to determine which container your application is running inside of. Please be aware, however, that container version is not the same as orkut UI version... for now, there is a 1-to-1 correspondence (1 for old orkut, 2 for new orkut) but this may come out of sync when we launch new container versions or new UIs. *Configurable App Width* That's right, we now support configurable width for applications in canvas view! You can specify a preferred width to orkut in your applications XML by means of the preferred_width attribute of the Content tag: ?xml version=1.0 encoding=UTF-8? Module ModulePrefs title=Yourtitlehere author=authorhere author_email=email_h...@..com description=Description here screenshot=http://url/of/a/screenshot/of/your/app; thumbnail=http://url/of/the/thumbnail/for/your/app; Require feature=opensocial-0.8 / Locale lang=en country=us / /ModulePrefs Content type=html *preferred_width=900* ![CDATA[ ... /Content /Module The container will try to allocate your indicated width but might have to crop it if it's too big and expand it if it's too small. The actual width will be reported to you in the gadgetWidth iframe parameter. Some points to take into account are: - The preferred_width parameter will only be taken into account when rendering your application on container version 2, but will be ignored in container version 1. - The container might or might not honor your preferred width depending on the available space. - The gadgetWidth iframe parameter is only available to your application in container version 2 and above. This is the slight catch we were talking about above. Therefore, the correct way to determine your application's actual width is first testing the container version and then, if the version is 2 or above, reading the gadgetWidth parameter. Otherwise (container version 1), the width of the gadget is fixed at 835px. So an example of Javascript code would be: // Determines the actual width of the application function getActualWidth() { return (gadgets.util.getUrlParameters()[containerVersion] = 2) ? gadgets.util.getUrlParameters()[gadgetWidth] : 835; }- Hide quoted text - - Show quoted text - -- You received this message because you are subscribed to the Google Groups orkut Developer Forum group. [orkut-developer] Re: News about Activity Stream!
What FB does is much more sophisticated than that, i.e. they can group activities from several apps for the same user if commited during a short period of time. If then there is half hour delay between new activities - those go ungroupped (or groupped in a new group). Also: it will be unfair to give all apps the same amount of 1 activity visible. Let's take a big app with lots of content where users spend 1-2 hours playing every day and making many different activities, and some small app where users spend 1 minute of their time. If both have the same 1 activity visible I think that would be incorrect. On Feb 3, 6:22 am, Mr . so activity via link redirects to app canvas, is this correct? On Dec 12, 8:21 am, Bruno Oliveira bru...@google.com wrote: It's best to attract users to the app info page. That way they will be correctly redirected. Remember that applications still have a guest mode, which happens when a user who does not have the app views it on someone else's profile (he can arrive there through the via link, for instance). That's what you get when you land in the canvas view of an app on someone else's profile and you don't have it installed. The recommended practice is that applications should have a guest mode in which the user can get a feel for the application without installing it. Applications must not redirect guest users from Canvas Page to the App Info page. Users who like the app in guest mode should install it using the Add App button on the frame (the app can help by pointing it out to the user, but the app must not force him to click it). -- You received this message because you are subscribed to the Google Groups orkut Developer Forum group.
