You can also get the DubbleTalk synth, they stil in production. And just an adapter to convert serial to USB, and you will be sorted. I did have a problem with Jaws not responding or speaking quickly if it hadn't been talking for a while but somehow that is fixed. Re: Digital Jukebox
Hi, the best thing maybe is to download the laim encoder and use it in a program like goldwave or total recorder and then convert those files to the spex of the laim encoder as that should work with that program. It uses dubble A batteries this time, wich is a first for olympus. Re: Recording Via Computer?
Total recorder is much easier than audacity and alike, you must do a test recording from the build in low end soundcart and see if that is good enough. Otherwise, you might want a better external soundcard and you would then need to set it up and afterwords tel total recorder to record from that card. If you want to put tapes on your pc, another option could be to buy a USB tape player, they come in differend brands and forms. for example: ion tape express wich connect via USB. This way you can avoid an external sound card and tel total recorder to record from the USB tape device. If you have peaces of silence in the recording, or any unwanted audio, you can select the audio and then delete it. On 31/05/2013, Antonio Guimaraes freethau...@gmail.com wrote: I would recommend Total Recorder. You'll have to set things up to record from the line in, and run tests to make sure the recording levels are loud enough. You'll need some way to monitor the recording so you're not recording dead air after the tape is done. Total recorder does have a mode where it only records when there is sound streaming. This feature works well for recording online videos. It removes any cut outs in the sstream. Total recorder is a little hard to set up, but runs very well once you get it going. Good luck. Re: olympus podcast
I'm not sure if you mean price wise, but in that case, I would say quite good. We are now moving to a situation where you can buy a $300/$500 recorder with components inside wich is werth a few hundreds of dollars or more. And it is the among a few accessible options out there. And the latest models improved on that, and prices are sometimes a bit lower, sometimes a bit higher depending on the model and microphones and pre amps being used. Re: Any Opinions on the Olympus LS-12?
Yes, the ls12 don't talk and it only have 2 mics wile the ls14 speak and stil maintain the 3 mics. But those mics sound so close to the ls100, that I think its stil as good option. Its stil a very quiet recorder and can also record bloo ray quality. I stil wood want the ls100 if I can, but I also just wanted the ls14 because of the dedicated line in jac. I stil love the xlr jacs on the 100 and the fact that it have both a limiter and compressor instead of just a limmitor. But I want to try and see how many times I can overdub with the ls14. I can do another podcast in a wile with samples of both recorders and hopefully I can figure out the metronoom. At least the 14 uses dubble A batteries. Wel, their support are sometimes helpfull and sometimes not, not sure what they up to, but I guess when calling them you will get better results. So what was the problem with your recorder? I was thinking later on that maybe you formatted on the pc, and they spisificly say never format using a pc. Yes the ls100,ls14, ls7,ls3, dm 620 and dm 670 all have voice guidance. But you must be carefull, because the dm 650 and ls12 for example does not have that and when reading the description sometimes you might be leeded to think they do include that. microphone issue
Hello all, I wunder if there is a work around here, I want to use a pro dynamic mic, but most of them comes with xlr cables or trs connections. Now I would love to be able to use the mic with the xlr connectors on my soundcard, and then also with a cable using a 3.5 mm jack, but I don't no if its possible to get a cable with the xlr connector on one end to plug in the mic and on the other end the 3.5 connector? I did consider using an adapter with the trs jack to convert to 3.5 but then its very enconvenient when using in smaller recorders such as Olympus. Any ideas? Or perhaps does anyone no of any vocal model from audio technical wich does not have a fitted cable wich I then could swop between the cable they provide and my own xlr cable? I ask about audio technical as I no that most of their mics uses 3.5 mm connections but if they uses a permanent fitted cable that would then be a problem. And the free version works quite wel, but the option to change the recording format, is on a toolbar only, and have no shortcut on the keyboard or cannot be located with the jaws cursor. Re: accessible recording program
O, ok then I can give it a look. No GoldWave is not what I need now. I did use it but I then went to audacity. And GoldWave is not free. I'm talking here about a lighter utility, and total recorder is more closer to the rite thing. GoldWave and alike is good for editing, but if you want to quickly capture something in a simpel manor, and to decide beforehand where it must be saved, that is not something alot of programs offer. I con't remember if GoldWave have recording standby, because that will be a problem. I record with it such a long time ago. I don't actually need it anymore. I switched to audacity because I needed a multi track recorder, but since it uses its own project format, that will not do what I want. But if anyone is intrested, try sonarka recorder. Its not to bad, Just wunder what people might think of these smaller but handy recording tools. Wel, that will depend on each card, you should check the card spex before you get it. I suggest that since you just need it for general use. That you must rather buy one of those wich you build in the back of the pc wich is not atached to the motherboard. That will help alot. Not only sound wise, but also for driver related stuff. Real tech is good. Try them. But if you want to buy another nun motherboard card, then you have wider options. As there is no audible feedback there as far as I no. I wish that olympus can just wake up and give us full accessibility. Its now five years since they started the talking menus, its now time for better. They always do half a job with these things. Maybe they should also consider tts, then it won't be necessary to record all the promts and it take space on the internal memory. I know it has had some firmware upgrades since its release, but an old review by a user on the Musicians Friend web site has some serious criticisms of the unit. The two that If ound most problematic are quoted below. Are these still problems? I am considering buying the recorder and would like some feedback. No way to pause playback. You need to think about this...imagine an analog reel to reel tape recorder, now imagine that every time you press stop when the machine is playing or recording, the transport instantly rewinds to the beginning of the tape...that's what happens with the LS-100! So, let's say you are trying to come up with a part for the 2nd chorus of a song...say 1:50 seconds into a song (like I was), when you are done and want to hear it, you only option is to press STOP (it instantly stops and resets to zero) then press PLAY, then hold down the Fast Forward key to advance to 1:45 seconds...and that's just to hear it once. If you don't like what you hear, you press STOP. RECORD to arm the track, PLAY, FF to advance to the 2nd chorus, RECORD to begin recording again, and then STOP and repeat the 1st process to hear it, every time having to press PLAY and then holding down the FF key for 10 seconds or so to advance to 1:45 on your song. It becomes very tedious to say the least. You can't pause record either but I'm not sure why you would want to (at least in MTR mode). You can't alter, add to, or partially erase tracks in any way once they've been recorded. You either accept them or erase them entirely. -- Rich De Steno To unsubscribe from this list, send a blank email to: pc-audio-unsubscr...@pc-audio.org To unsubscribe from this list, send a blank email to: pc-audio-unsubscr...@pc-audio.org
