Cat likes PDML
My cat has really taken to this group. Right now she's asleep in front of the keyboard with her head on a stack of photos awaiting the scanner. Fortunately the photos are in those cool vinyl pockets you get at Wal-Mart. Maybe I'll scan the cat instead and submit to the PUG. Oh, and I finally submitted an image for the PUG!! Hi, Just popping in with a webpage update with pic's of the movers and shakers of PDML! Just pop on over to http://www.nrg666.com/pdml/portraits/ If you've sent me your pic and its not there or you want to be added, then forward it to me offlist, with your name as file name and in a web friendly size. I've also added a couple of links to the Website list at: http://www.nrg666.com/pdml/ I'll be fixing a bit of the formatting on this page in the next few days. I've also increased the coverage of the robots.txt so hopefully it should stop anyone from crawling through the site. Regards, Paul Jones

Re: Juvenile Behaviours
Funny, another on the bandwagon. You must be bored of real Pentax topics. I just wrote that email. I have contributed in the past. All the old-timers are merely ganging up on me. Your emails are juvenile, they serve no purpose here. Oh how easy it is to be a juvenile jerk in a mailing list. Bet you wouldn't have the courage to say that to me directly in person. Funny thing is, I've received over 2 dozen private emails supporting me or sympathizing, explaining politely or just saying you and your cronies are wrong. I will not reveal them. I thank them. I do wonder what all the juvenile people would have to say then if they posted directly to the list. Are you just bored about the DSLR and speculating? I think that a lot of you are, and I provided an easy outlet for you to vent frustrations. Oh and finally just to you Bob/tv, a killfile or rule won't stop a thing. Hi!! To the others, if you are as tired of this as I am, don't respond, because I have been grossly insulted here and the level of maturity in general has dropped and will feel the need to respond to insults and juvenile behaviour, so if you want it to stop, leave things be. OH, forgot one thing. I printed one email from a member in Vancouver who showed his contempt in the public school system. I had some fellow teachers read it, they all wanted the address of the list so they could respond in kind. I didn't want it to go as far as it has, so I politely declined their offer. I also told them of the insults, funny, they actually had swear words to say about them. I go to an Evangelical-type church so the baptism was the whole-body dunk in a pool. I don't have my Bible in front of me but the verse goes "He that believes and is baptised shall be saved. He that does not believe [is condemned]." That's not exact but it's pretty close. There are some denominations that feel that if you're never baptised it's hellfire and brimstone for you. However, the emphasis in the scriptures is on belief, not on getting wet. Baptism is an outward sign of your belief and symbolic of Christ's death and resurrection (going under the water, coming out of the water.) This links it to washing away or dying to the old, sinful nature of mankind. It also stems in part from many ceremonial cleansings in Judaism. The very early church was largely Jewish. In fact somewhere the apostle Paul writes that he is "baptised into Christ" or something like that. Along with Holy Communion, it's one of the few Christain rituals laid down in the New Testament, but again, the primary emphasis is still on belief. I was baptised in a Methodist church in San Marcos, TX, which is a really photogenic little college town in its own right. The church itself is a huge white thing about two blocks off the town square and was established in the 19th century by circuit riders (preachers on horseback). Actually, it wasn't in the church but in the San Marcos River. Beautiful but cold. Some Methodist churches just put a handful of water on your head. Not as dramatic but to the same end. > Plus, I guess its technically not a baptism, but a > christening, I just > can't pronounce "christening," I'll keep referring > to it as baptism. I think last year we had a total of 30 hours freezing temperatures spread out over January and February. Mainly it's just wet season and dry season. Now it's the wet season and starting to cool off. Re: 28mm f2.8 FA for Available Light Shots?
Brian, That's a common attribute of wide lenses, your lens is typical. Most available light situations should mask the problem, the more picture elements there are the smaller the problem will be. Just beware of shooting landscapes with clear blue skies at wide apertures. Re: Bellows, lens and LX (was: SMC Pentax K-Mount Macro Lens Poll)
I wrote earlier saying that you should buy one only if you can find one at a good price. The FB1/FD1 combination is pretty good. On the weekend, however, I had the opportunity to shoot in a studio setting photographing still lifes, extreme closeups of glass, etc. The FE1 was the finder of choice and it was truly a pleasure to use. So I am revising my suggestion to -- go out there and hunt one down and grab it if you can find it. They are not easy to find so if you know where one is, go for it... 28mm f2.8 FA for Available Light Shots?
Hello All, I just purchased a 28mm f2.8 FA lens, thinking it would be good for low light photos. However, it seems to have a lot of light loss in the corners at f2.8 and f4. It would seem to defeat my purpose of available light photography if I have to set it to f5.6 or so. Is this expected with this lens? Is the 35mm f2 FA vignetting any better? That had been my second choice, and maybe now the first. I have a 50mm f1.7 FA, but was hoping for something wider in low light. Then again, maybe this is the chance for the 43mm f1.9. Thanks for your help. Brian

You have to admit that Brad has a point there. He's given everyone a chance to let it drop and still save face. It's up to you what you do with that chance. It's then up to Brad to stay stopped. Free Fuji NPH Film!!! (for Canadians, at least)
If you go to http://www.fujifilm.ca/ProCommunity and register, you will find lots of helpful information, of course, as well as links to putting up your own gallery and bio on the Fuji website. By registering and once approved (I told them that I was a semi-professional, and they didn't seem to mind) they send you your choice of 5 rolls of NPH 120 format, or three rolls of 35mm NPH. I don't know if this is only on the Canadian site or not, but it would hurt to try. It is also a great site, with marketing tips, etc. Well done, Fuji. I guess they need the rightoffs. Cameron Hood PS: maybe PDMLers in other countries could let the list know if their Fuji website is running similar offers.

Okay, here's a great little game for you while war rages in the background . My SO was (*finally*) sorting out her mess, er room, today, and came across a fairly comprehensive Pentax price list. There is no date on it - so, like countless 'What Was The Year' hours on music radio around the world, by looking at the price list (at the URL below), What Was The Year? Hint: the list is reproduced in full, 2 sides of an A4 sheet, and (presumably) contains all the gear that was available at the time of printing. OT: Take it off the list (RE: BRAD PLEASE JUST ***STOP***)
Ladies and gentlemen, I have had it. Brad you were wrong with what you did and I accept your apology (don't let it happen again). And my suggestion to you is to ignore other emails (not this one) concerning this topic. For the rest of you (and believe me I love you all) if you cannot accept his apology, please take it up with Brad off the list or filter him out or whatever, I don't think the list really cares what you do. And keep sending all the informative emails that have helped me so much during the last few years to this list. Thank you for your understanding Signed I got home today and 16 out of 92 emails from Pentax had nothing to do with Pentax or photography (I would have rather have received emails concerning C or N)

Some people crave attention. If you respond to their untoward remarks, it just encourages them. I find that if I ignore people who are rude or obscene, they get tired of talking to themselves and stop a lot sooner than if I object or try to correct their behavior. Dan

Re: Split the list or calm down ?
I got back from a long weekend out of town last night to over 500 e-mails! Of course, the vast majority of them were pdml. Unfortunately, most of them were useless garbage: "He said this!", "I already apologized!", "I'm complaining to his ISP!", etc, etc., back and forth, forth and back. "WAAA!" (that's supposed to represent the sound of an infant crying ). Unfortunately, I really didn't have time to sift throught the crap and read anything worthwhile. What's up lately? A weekend with the list down not enough for everyone to calm down after Photokina, or did that just get everyone riled up even more? I don't wish to point any fingers, but it does seem to me that a small number of us are dominating the list with time-wasting drivel to satisfy their inflated egos. Believe me, you're not that important! Hopefully this will all blow over (as it usually does), and we can get back to talking about Pentax and photography, and stop the sniping and back-stabbing. Okay, everybody take a deep breath, have a beer/valium/prozac/whatever-substance-makes-you relax/meditate/do yoga - whatever. There now: feel better? Good, let's talk cameras... regards, frank Antti-Pekka Virjonen wrote: > Yea, I know ;-) I've tried to calm down the list many times in the > past as well... with mixed success. > > I've been on the Pentax list since 1996... don't remember the exact > dates. > > -- "The optimist thinks this is the best of all possible worlds. OT: Wal Mart-Frontier ?
Wasn't there someone who worked at a Wal Mart on the list? I have a question about the Photo CDs they offer. The local Wal Mart has the Fuji Frontier 390. Anyone who knows these things could please mail me off-list. Thanks, Cory Waters

You have an extreme view that is a little skewed I think. Generally if blame is to be cast, the child itself (in this very modern age) is a problem, as well in some schools, generally those that are not financially well off, it is the families fault. However, the provincial governments are also making it hard for teachers to maintain a proper learning environment. Hands are tied. With those two forces at work, it's definitely not ideal. Re: To the pentax spies
I live in Richmond, BC, and am a father of 8 children ranging from 9 to 22. At present, I have two children in Elementary (The board advocates Child Centred Education) and 3 at High School. So far, my experience of North American education has led me to the well justified conclusion, that it is screwed up. Educators have screwed up Canadian society(American too, for that matter) with their naive Socialist Fabian Philosophies. Child Centred Education does not work, and never will. All it does is produce union fodder, and turns kids into informants(often against their families), and does not prepare them for the real world. No wonder they turn to drugs. I don't know where you guys stand on these things, but I don't mean it personally. Before, I would have used a stronger word than screwed, but that's not Christian. I would not be a teacher for anything, the stress levels must be unbelievable. Le site des Amateurs de PENTAX
Hello to our PDML's friends... This post just to inform you about the creation of our website "Le site des Amateurs de PENTAX" You can find it here : www.pentaxiste.org For those who are not affraid to communicate in French language, it's possible to post your own contributions directly from the site; for instance the galeries are published by the photographers themselves (at the date of today ou galery is not as nice as the PUG, but we work on it...) I hope you'll enjoy the visit, Cheers from Paris - France, Cyril Webmaster of www.pentaxiste.org
