Swinging London loved the Pentax
Afterward I did get to know Graham Nash reasonably well ... We discovered that we shared the same hobby - photography - and we often eagerly discussed the relative merits of different cameras and lenses. It was always interesting to me that so many recording artists - Graham, Cliff Richard, various Shadows, even Ringo - took up photography as a hobby; once the royalty checks started coming in, it seemed that they were all getting Pentaxes. I am far from a FaceBook fan, but I think a page for the PDML is a great idea, if someone is willing and able to set it up and maintain it. If we attract a few idiots who are not our type of idiots, a few days on the list will drive those folk away. We are a unique and idiosyncratic bunch, and those that don't appreciate our twisted outlook and bizarre sense of humor will soon run away, screaming all the way back to normal life. Promoting the PUG, and the list
Since this topic has little to do with my questions about meta-skills, particularly those about giving and taking criticism, I've changed the subject line. One question I had was what the purpose of the PUG currently is. I believe that Pentax used it to showcase their products, to sell more gear, i.e. what the PPG is now. Then again it could always have been a monthly diversion for the list members. Note that this is a different question than why would we want more people to see the PUG, or advertise it on facebook. And, yet again another question as to why we'd want to advertise the presence of the PDML, and to whom. Re: Smoothing out tan lines in lightroom?
You can try this in LR. It works pretty well for smoothing complexion and shadow problems. ** Using the brush tool, Set: Exposure = -4.00 Clarity = -100 Sharpness = -100 Adjust brush size feather amount as necessary for the area you want to repair. Set flow to about 75 for starters Brush over the area you want to adjust - it will show as black so it's easy for you to see where you've brushed Return Exposure to zero and see if you like what you've done Repeat or re-do as necessary if you don't like what you see. Setting the flow to a higher value will strengthen the effect Set to a lower value for less effect. * If you can't get the results you want, then you'll have to move to PhotoShop, but I've had some good results using this method. -p On 11/27/2011 3:19 PM, Larry Colen wrote: Rebecca asked if I could smooth out tan lines in her upper arms in some photos from this photo shoot: www.flickr.com/photos/ellarsee/sets/72157627282460471 Rebecca is the brunette in the first four photos. Back in the day, digitizing and uploading an image took more than a momentary whim, and having a monthly gallery wherein we could share images with other Pentaxians added an incentive to go through that process. Even though the preparation is relatively trivial now, it is still useful IMHO to have a monthly theme-based incentive/opportunity to share a particular image and then see how others have interpreted the theme. I really don't care one way or another if any other than friends and family of the PUG posters ever look at the PUG. It is possible, though highly unlikely, that a non-Pentaxian might look at the wonderful images typically included and say to herself Gee golly, that Pentax gear sure takes wonderful photos, I'll need to go get me some. And it is a good thing if more people buy Pentax gear because then maybe Pentax will produce some long lenses. But mostly I think the audience is the members of the list and I don't see a problem with that. stan -- PDML Pentax-Discuss Mail List PDML@pdml.net http://pdml.net/mailman/listinfo/pdml_pdml.net to UNSUBSCRIBE from the PDML, please visit the link directly above and follow the directions.

Today was relatively warm but foggy/cloudy - depending on altitude. Either way, there was little visibility so no scenic vistas were in the cards as far as photography was concerned. Or sightseeing, for that matter. We went on a shorter, but still vertiginous, hike today. All i managed were a few shots of streams and similar close-range nature-type shots. GESO, The Mermen
The local entertainment paper said that Dick Dale was playing with them at a local club last night, it was a total screwup, someone grabbed a year old concert announcement. Even so, it was a great show, and interesting photographing a band that I don't know, or more importantly doesn't know me. I was bummed that I'd left the 200/2.8 at home, it seems to do a better job than the 135/2.5. What I could really use for gigs like this would be a 70-200/2.8, with autofocus and all of that good stuff, though the 60-250 would also probably do well. Even so, I made some good use of my 18-250. I ended up using the 135 a lot on the K-x, which has the katzeye, which was a big help with manual focus. The K-5 shut down for about half an hour, which was very annoying. Despite all the challenges I got a few decent shots: http://www.flickr.com/photos/ellarsee/sets/72157628180304675/ or http://www.flickriver.com/photos/ellarsee/sets/72157628180304675/ And the music varied from good to amazing. I got a couple shots of Jen, who was doing the light show. I would love to use one, or two, of those computer run light show projectors for some photo shoots, you could get some really cool effects that way. -- Larry Colen l...@red4est.com sent from i4est -- PDML Pentax-Discuss Mail List PDML@pdml.net http://pdml.net/mailman/listinfo/pdml_pdml.net to UNSUBSCRIBE from the PDML, please visit the link directly above and follow the directions.

Re: PESO: Watching TV
Thanks, Frank. The animal on the TV is a Siberian Husky. Bandit likes any animal shows on TV, but especially telecasts of dog shows and wildlife epics featuring wolves, especially if there are pups. I was a bit tricky getting him watching the TV when the camera could pick up what was on the TV. He usually watches from a chair or sofa, both of which are too far from the set to get both in the same image. At other times, the TV image was flickering or park dark and part bright. This was the shot that got the best image of the TV with it being clear that the dog was watching the show and why. Billings, MT: Soliciting suggestions
Hi all, As of this moment, I have plans for a road trip to Billings, Montana in late June or early July. The trip itself is going to be a bit of a dream come true for me, as I've always wanted to see that part of the US. I'm sure I'll encounter plenty of photo opportunities along the way, and I'll be staying in the area for a week once I get there. I don't know if there are any PDML'ers in that area, but I figure someone among us has at least been there, or knows enough about the area to give me some ideas on what kind of photographic opportunities I should be on the lookout for while I'm out there. I understand that everything out in that part of the country is on a scale largely unimaginable to greenhorns like myself, but I'm planning on taking my bike with me on the off-chance there are reasonably accessible destinations within a bike-ride from where I'll be staying. Any pointers and tips would be greatly appreciated. I may never have this opportunity again, so I want to make the most of the time I have while I'm out there.
