Re: Which second party camera system do you like? Mini-survey
I would go for Fujifilm X-series for the pictures now covered by K-5 and DA-limited lenses. DagT 6. sep. 2013 kl. 20:15 skrev eactiv...@aol.com: Second party? Third party? Not sure what to call it. I am just about to sell my Canon camera, and only have one lens left too. Mainly due to a financial crunch and needing the money. (Boy, it will be ODD not to have a camera. Had one or two since 2001.) I expect my financial situation to ease next month. So I thought, okay, time to switch systems again. I really liked the Canon lenses I ended up with: good color, sharpness, and focal lengths. I had one L glass. BUT.. the Canon system is a wide-mouthed mount, and the lenses tend to be heavy. Being female, as I get older I am losing upper body strength, and I just want something lighter. I COULD switch back to Pentax. But not the K-5, I like spending $400 or so on a camera, $600 max. Truthfully the camera body doesn't matter that much to me, they all do similar things now. Good resolution, ability to shoot video, and some low-light capability is good enough for me. Once I learn a body, I pretty much forget about it when I shoot anyway. I am much more interested in LENSES. Especially zooms, I haven't had any primes for a long time now. I will probably start with two lenses (what I usually do), and then work up from there. I've considered mirror-less, but I really need a viewfinder. I've also considered micro 3/4. I am OPEN. A great many of you now have second or third party camera systems now. Like the Sony NEX. 1. If you have a second (or third party) system what has been your experience with it? What do you like about it? Dislike about it? 2. What lenses (zooms in particular) do you like/dislike? 3. If you are a die-hard Pentax fan, and feel compelled to recommend Pentax to me, ;-), which of the smaller bodies would you suggest? Likes/dislikes? 4. What zooms would you recommend? I tried to be brief so you won't have too much to read, but it's hard. Marnie aka Doe :-) I When I thought about making a decision, I though, heck, ask on PDML and get some experienced input. Then I can find a store, go in and hold some cameras, and go from there. -- PDML Pentax-Discuss Mail List PDML@pdml.net http://pdml.net/mailman/listinfo/pdml_pdml.net to UNSUBSCRIBE from the PDML, please visit the link directly above and follow the directions. -- PDML Pentax-Discuss Mail List PDML@pdml.net http://pdml.net/mailman/listinfo/pdml_pdml.net to UNSUBSCRIBE from the PDML, please visit the link directly above and follow the directions.

So true, and after 15 years my wide suddenly concluded that photography was fairly inexpensive compared to a lot of other things. It seems like the last couple of years, and especially the last few months the topic of other brands supplementing Pentax gear or just plain switching to other brands has significantly increased. I'm pretty uncertain about changing brands unless the brand you are changing to just plain does what you want it to be good for better, or at least better enough. I want a camera with a fast standard lens, it's something I have long complained about with Pentax digital. I don't want to carry around a massive camera, so for me the full frame DSLR offerings aren't so good. I'm also somewhat of a lens junkie, and I look for certain qualities in an image such as soft bokeh, but also high apparent sharpness and what I can only describe as smoothness and a sense of depth. None of these are really quantifiable things. It's like porn, you can't identify it, but you know it when you see it. It's the lens qualities that brought me to Pentax in the first place. So, I want a camera with a fast standard lens, I want something that is fairly compact, and I want certain lens qualities that I have to see to know. I feel quite fortunate that the Fuji X-Pro1 and the 35/1.4 standard lens fits that description. I can agree with you there, except that I would like a fast wide angle instead of a standard. I bought the Fuji x100 some months ago when I needed an extra camera and decided to try something different. I love it, even though the EVF ias good as the later models. In my view the Fuji system does compete with the Pentax DA Limited lenses providing a good, compact, system and I am tempted to sell them and get the X-Pro with 18mm f/2, 35mm f/1.4 and 60mm f/2.4. On the other hand Pentax does compete in other areas such as speed, weather sealing and stabilization (as well as telephoto for those interested in that area). So I think the Fuji system would be a supplement, not an alternative, to a Pentax system. I would probably keep the DA*-lenses, the FA31 and buy some update of K-5. So I would have multiple brands. The sick minds are there already, and they have their internet sites too. Many of them are closed but I know a couple of them and they do support and recommend criminal acts, even as far as murder. The reason for discussing weird and dangerous ideas in the open is that if they are left to themselves the ideas seam to be normal in their areas. Offering resistance to the ideas is a way to reduce the recruiting and making it clear that they are known, the ideas are discussed and that the majority does not agree with them, even though they may feel that they are within their small communities. Re: PAW167 - Men
Yes, I think it is. There are several reasons why I show these pictures. One is simply to tease some people who are obsessed with bird pictures, but another is the contrast between free as a bird and the harsh reality. One reason why I don´t want to get too close is that I try to get some beauty there. As for decay you should take a look at the pictures of a friend mine, Øyvind Antonsen, he both studies the cruel sides of nature and also the abandoned homes in his part of Norway: https://antonsen.foto.no/cgi-bin/portfolio/layout1/show_kategori_index.cgi?serieid=2851brukerid=18029 https://antonsen.foto.no/cgi-bin/portfolio/layout1/show_kategori_index.cgi?serieid=2906brukerid=18029 His blog is here: http://antonsenfoto.blogspot.no DagT 18. mars 2013 kl. 22:22 skrev Zos Xavius zosxav...@gmail.com: You should get closer on the dead birds. There's something that makes me kind of queasy looking at pictures of rotting corpses. The dead body doesn't bother me, but the decay is really unsettling to me. I'd much rather shoot decaying buildings honestly. Its probably a normal reaction. Yes, but what is an original? If we shot a jpeg, it will be modified at least through down-sizing for web-viewing. If we shot PEF, does conversion to DNG make it not original? If DNG or DNG conversion, many of us have some pre-set tweeks in exposure or sharpening or color balance even before we start working on the resulting original to get to the final edited image. What I'd say is that manual edits are what make it not original. Conversions and automatic profile changes don't count. I just figured that if teaching/learning is supposed to be part of the point of posting photos (which it seems to be if people are asking for critiques), then having the original is handy to see what changes have already been made. I see your point. If I wanted to teach, I might use it as an example, but on the other hand I think the result is important, not how I got there. There are many ways to see and make a picture. Once I felt how the contrast should be, there were a lot of different ways to get there. Just like, when I was there in the forest the forest itself was not important. It was what I wanted to show. Others would make something else, maybe better, but it wouldn´t fit with what I saw. I have taught some photography. Teaching rules seldom get far. Seeing other pictures and wondering why I like or dislike them is a lot better. Re: Why would you buy a Pentax FF camera?
I think the only thing that would make me buy one is if they stopped tanking the 16x24 format seriously, and stopped the K-5 type camera. And then I might as well jump to something else, like Fujifilm X. The files I get from K-5 are big enough, ISO are good enough, DOF is suffiently shallow and I like the compact camera and lenses. My old A* lenses work well. So why would I want a larger camera and more expensive lenses? DagT Sendt fra min iPad Den 7. feb. 2013 kl. 12:28 skrev Steve Cottrell co...@seeingeye.tv: I mean, aside from the obvious reasons like, bigger sensor, better image quality, better use with lenses designed to work with a 36X24mm frame, better lighting, better heating, better sewer systems, the roads (yes we can't forget the roads) Back in 2000, this camera came onto the scene: http://www.dpreview.com/reviews/canond30 and at the time, I was toting both the LX and the MX along with various lenses and stuff. It was the first really 'affordable' DSLR and had I not prevaricated for many months, I would have had one there and then. Instead I waited to see what might be coming from Pentax - and so I waited and waited. And nothing came. And so in 2002, this came out: http://www.dpreview.com/reviews/canoneosd60 and I could wait no longer. I jumped. It was made of creaky plastic and it felt not a patch on the quality metal construction of the MX and LX, but shooting with it was amazing. No film! It was about £2000 GBP at the time and the premium paid over and above a comparative film camera would have kept me in FP4 for years. But it was digital and it was instant - I had a grin that lasted weeks. I had the D60 for a while, but longed for better build quality and features - exactly what I found in the 1D mark II (aps-h...1.3X crop). That was a camera that fully met (and exceeded) all expectations. If I'd stayed in the game of carrying a big system about with me, i would have without doubt moved onto a 1Ds (full frame). As it is, I sold up when times were hard, and in fact didn't really miss it all. My son has a 1DmIIn and some lenses, and good luck to him. Nice to play with for a while, and I still mount a Pentax lens on it now and again if I need to do some portraits, but I'm happier with my lil Fuji. So what if Pentax brings out a FF camera - would I jump? i might...but why?? Well, the answer will probably surprise you and some will ridicule. It has to do with a certain lens... I still have my A*85/1.4 and I long for the time I can mount it to a proper 36X24 Pentax body - simple as that. I'd be more than happy with just that lens attached the whole time - and just for portraits. Daft innit! But there you go - that's the way it is. So much for the photographic tools theory.
