So it seems it's the a little old Perlversion is the problem and it's
time to move my LMS from Win to Linux, right?

Re: [SlimDevices: Plugins] [ANNOUNCE] TVH Plugin - TVHeadend integration

2021-10-10 Thread nibblerrick

Hi,

8.2.1 hasn't helped. What I found though was that the docker instance is
8.2.0, too - but has Perl version 5.32.1. Windows has 5.14.1. I found
now some threads that LMS on Windows is stuck on Perl 5.14.
So could that be the problem that 5.14 just won't do? On
https://perldoc.perl.org/Scalar::Util#isdual it says "since version
1.26". Maybe that's the culprit then?

Thanks

That feels like a Perl problem .. with the module being very old (isdual
was included from since version 1.26 of Scalar::Utils and current on
CPAN is 1.55).
However, I could not find that Perl module on my LMS installation so
maybe it is hidden inside something else with a non-obvious name.

Anyway - assuming your are running the official lms .exe file and not a
home-brew using a local Perl installation then I suggest trying 8.2.1
from the nightlies to see if it fixes it by magic.

This is on an LMS 8.2.0 on a Windows Server 2008 R2.
I spun up the LMS docker container and there it runs flawless.

Is there anything that can be done to solve that?
(Yes, of course, migrate your install to linux - and that will happen at
some point. However, this LMS runs on this server since it was installed
more than 10 years ago, so it has done a good job for quite some
time...)
If not or only with much effort it's fine if not.

And yes, it's a pity that there is almost no developement at TVH,
another system which is doing a great job for quite a while here.

I've not seen any option in the TVH API's to list audio channels, I
think that would be down to parsing the audio stream somehow and getting
the detail out, I just pass the stream straight to LMS to play so don't
think that would be possible, by me at least.

Hi Andrew,

I just had an idea for a feature request using TVH. Quiet a lot of TV
channels using different audio tracks for additional features like AD -
a mixture or a combination of the film sound and a descriptive
commentary is sent on this audio description (AD) sound channel.

With the possibility of choose this AD audio channel, a movie played via
LMS would be like an audio book.

Do you think it is possible to add a feature to dicide between different
audio tracks?

Hi, thanks for trying it. Yes this is a known problem, I use
rectangular images for Kodi which display fine on that but get mangled
when used with LMS apps that are expecting squares.
I've looked before about manipulating the image to make it square by
adding a background padding top and bottom, but my Perl skills aren't up
to that so remains on my todo list unfortunately.

If you do make square picons it probably wouldn't look good on your TV
apps so depends on what your main use case is as to whether it's worth
the effort, I mainly use my Transporter which has VFD displays so no
graphics to start with.

Yes, there is no uniform solution. In the late 90's I worked on a chip
for audio decoding. As far as I can remember, there were two approaches
that were followed. The RDS data are extracted from the FM signal and
transmitted via DVB RDS additional information. Either sent in a
separate data stream that runs on its own RDS-PID (Packet Identifier),
like audio on the APID and video on the VPID or videtext on the TTX-PID.
This is called a "private stream". The broadcasters of the FFH group
have done this for a long time.

ARD and IRT have come up with something else and introduced radio
transponders. The RDS data is tunneled in the MP2 audio data stream.

Sometimes (Eutelsat / Hotbird) the title and intepret are packed into
the EPG, which is constantly updated. This is therefore always displayed
when the PVR recording is played back.

Thanks for a little more background, here in the UK RDS is very poor so
EPG is the easier way to go, it also helps get me onto the path of
listing recordings and allowing playback.

The MPEG stream to shoutcast is clever and not even an issue/use case
I'd ever considered needing. I THINK something like that could be done
within a squeeze plugin but I'm certainly not to a level to think about
that yet.

You are welcome.

Unfortunately, for many German radio stations the EPG is not as
interesting as the real time RDS information packed into the MPEG audio.
This was the reason I implemented ts2shout because I like the "current

The plugin has now been added to the 3rd party list so should show up in
a few days, though you'd have to remove the plugin, remove the external
library to see it so not sure if it's worth changing, you'll get updates
either way.

MichaelPr had written me an email and made me aware of this thread.

Some time ago I had already started to work on the topic "automagic
program overview of tvheadend in Squeezebox". My result is a perl script
which runs as CGI in an apache webserver. It calls the API of tvheadend
and returns an opml file, incl. corresponding links to the station icons
(https://github.com/carsten-gross/lms-dvb-radio-helper, description on
http://www.siski.de/~carsten/radio-streaming-squeezebox.html). I read
all programs tagged as "radio" and support exactly one hierarchy level
of "tags", so the countless radio programs on Astra 19.2E or Hotbird 13E
are mostly separated by country or language region quite sensibly.

My program ts2shout ( https://github.com/carsten-gross/ts2shout) is
"next to it", it can convert a MPEG-TS stream into Shoutcast, depending
on the call parameters either the EPG or RDS (only in MPEG1/2) is used
to pack song titles or broadcast information into the stream. As an
almost classic Unix filter it only has to be called appropriately and
then passes the request via environment variables configurable to
tvheadend. Through Shoutcast you have music track information etc. in
the squeezebox.

In the last days I added some HE-AAC extensions to ts2shout, since
recently the NDR broadcasts radio programs in northern Germany via DVB-T
in this format (also all Persian programs from Iran on Hotbird 13E are
encoded in HE-AACv2 / AAC+).

see you've put a lot of work with a great result in the plugin and from
my point of view, the more people read/use it, the better.

I can totally understand what you are saying - but maybe on the other
hand if the plugin is visible for everyone, someone could extend/
support the features who never will get into touch with the plugin if
not listet. Consider... the documentation of your plugin is much better
than for many older plugins which are still listet.

Just a thought

We have thought about getting it listed in the 3rd party repository list
but our ability to support it is limited, we've managed to get this much
working with Perl but it's reached our limits and any ideas we have on
changing it (EPG now playing for example) we hit a brick wall on our
knowledge. So for now we just feel putting it here for people to try is
enough.

After a good amount of info from the Squeezer team I managed to get the
icon working, it turned out I was using a very old plugin as my template

I've managed to fix the issue of channel number rather than channel UUID
being used, it is a far better way of handling this.
Version 1.2.29 released today has the change so you should get the
update next time LMS updates your plugins.

I agree, the majority of plugins don't set the icon like that so will

I'm not really sure at this point whether this is the best or the right
way to go. SBT only shows the icon on Squeezer - but not on Jive /
Jivelite devices. Also, I haven't seen this method in other plugins that
show the icon everywhere - like Radio Paradise. Maybe someone who has

'icon-id' is fine with Material. To enable mapping *all* Material
requires is:

- Your main icon is named x_svg.png
- You have a monochrome SVG icon named x.svg in the -same- folder as
  x_svg.png
-  Use x_svg.png as the app's icon

(Obviously 'x' can be any string). When Material sees an icon named
_svg.png it -assumes- there is a corresponding .svg icon in the
same path and will use that.

*Material debug:* 1. Launch via http: //SERVER:9000/material/?debug=json
(Use http: //SERVER:9000/material/?debug=json,cometd to also see update
messages, e.g. play queue) 2. Open browser's developer tools 3. Open
console tab in developer tools 4. REQ/RESP messages sent to/from LMS

That's interesting as it's a different method for how I set the icon,
and may not work with the Material Skin alternative icon. On this issue
I'll wait for some feedback from the Squeezer developer as I don't want
to randomly change things I have no way of testing.

I've spent a little time looking at the ID rather than number issue and
think I may have a solution but have to do some testing.

Sorry I don't have time to look at writing another plugin! This is one
of a number of very different side projects I work on and my perl is
very limited.

Hi Andrew,

Thanks a lot for opening the issue with the Squeezer Developer. You are
right it's a weird one... because with SDT it's exactly the opposite.
The icon works with squeezer but not with using Jive/Jivelite. I already
had a small look into the plugin but my Perl skills are also not the
best so code reading takes me some time. In Plugin.pm there is done
something like:

Code:

  my @menu = ({
  text   => 'SuperDateTime',
  'icon-id' => 'plugins/SuperDateTime/html/images/32.png',
  id => 'pluginSuperDateTime',
  weight => 15,
window => { menuStyle => 'album' },
  actions => {
  go => {
  player => 0,
  cmd  => [ 'sdtTop' ],
params => {
menu => 'nowhere',
},
  },
  },
  });

If you are up for an challenge and if you want to make Germans happy,
I've something for you... ;-) I tried to use M. Hergers RadioParadise as
a sample to setup an ARD Audiothek Plugpin - but because of time and my
poor LMS/Perl-knowledge it stucks :-( Regarding to M. Herger the
Audiothek API looks not bad.

Thanks Michael for the compliment.

I'll certainly look into using ID's but I think Kodi isn't using the API
but the custom HTSP protocol so things are different. In the meantime
just renumber the channels which I'm sure you've worked that out!
I've raised an issue myself to track it here
https://github.com/codechimp-org/lms-tvh/issues/22

The Squeezer app not showing the icon is a weird one, I'm not doing
anything odd with the icon. I'm not an Android user myself so haven't
been able to test this. I've raised an issue with the Squeezer developer
to see if I can get insight into anything I may need to change for the
app.
https://github.com/nikclayton/android-squeezer/issues/681

No promises on when I can fix these, it's a side project and my Perl
skills are still not great but I'm up for a challenge.

Hi Andrew,

because of remove icon mapping in MaterialSkin, I became aware of your
plugin - using TVHeadEnd and LMS since many years now I added my DVB-C
Radio channels manually to favorites like:
'http://Squeeze:mypass@LMSServerII:9981/stream/channelid/128246553?profile=radio'

Great job and infrastructure for your TVH Plugin. This makes it much
more comfortable! Especially adding the station icon via favorites.opml
was always a pain.

Two minor things: The icon in Squeezer is missing and it seems your are
using the channel number for tuning. In my case all radio channels were
0 and your plugin tuned everything to the same channel. Could you maybe
use the id like Kodi is doing it? But for now I set all my channels to a
specific channel number. If you like I can open a bug/request in GitHub
;-)

By the way I'm using HTS Tvheadend in its Version 4.3-1857~g221c29b40
(together with LMS) on a RPi4. Means I've no transcoding via TVHeadEnd
enabled - but my DVB-C provider feeds the stations in MPEG-2 audio. So
for adding a "Stream Profile" I used: "Type Audio stream/ Audio type:
MPEG-2 audio". Works perfect!

Again - Thanks a lot for the great work!!!
Michael

An important update went out last night that fixes an issue with
password saving on the settings screen. If you're using security on
TVHeadend worth updating and checking the settings again.

[SlimDevices: Plugins] [ANNOUNCE] TVH Plugin - TVHeadend integration

2019-06-01 Thread CodeChimp

Dozi and myself have been working on a side project for some time to
integrate LMS with TVHeadend. It can get station listings from
TVHeadend, so that it's easier to use your over the air tuners attached
to TVHeadend to listen to live radio. We've decided it's time to let it
out into the world.

Full instructions and the repo link are available at
https://github.com/codechimp-org/lms-tvh

This is our initial release and our first time creating an LMS plugin or
developing with Perl so go easy on us if it's rough around the edges.
We'll try and fix any issues and have plans on ways we can improve it
going forwards but this is a side project so time is limited.
