I've done a small update to BBCiPlayer & BBCiPlayerExtras - it should appear to anyone using the BBCiPlayer repo http://downloads.sourceforge.net/project/bpaplugins/betarelease-repo.xml Nothing will change for users of other repos. Please do not post anymore to this thead. New post to this thread https://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?109826-BBCiPlayer-V1-6-(and-higher)-amp-BBCiPlayerExtra-2-0-(and-higher)-Support 1-Dec-18 Release notes for BBCiPlayer 1.6.1 - Many small changes provided by mrw such as remove repeated programmes, revert weekday format (i.e. no date), fixup icons, fixup bookmarking of series & fix missing duration on IP3K players "More Info". - Change HLS playback to use HTTP 1.1. persistent connections which should reduce network load. - Update to enable playing Listen Again in HLS (oct 18) - Listen Again in HLS is broken again (403 forbidden) perhaps only for non UK (Nov 18) - HLS and MP3 live stream now will show program metadata such as track info and program image (HLS & MP3 may be preferred for live streams due to v. small delay at start) - Fix to reduce small pause in startup of DASH streams - Fix to prevent "XXX mins delay" appearing incorrectly in program titles Release notes for BBCiPlayerExtra 2.1.0 - A number of small changes to provides access to additional BBC material which now come under "BBC Sounds" heading - More genres in "Latest" menu - A few more stations in A-Z indexs - Podcast access organised & sorted by station and also by genre. Requires Podcast plugin to be enabled.Makes it easier to find program than using BBC Podcast feed in Podcast plugin. bpa's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=1806 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=53229 ___ plugins mailing list plugins@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/plugins

What happens is BBC load balancing newtwork requests and you hit a bad time where redirection of the URL (i.e. to a different server) exceeded LMS redirection limit. Furthermore, LMS caches the failures so if you keep trying - LMS will just used the cached error and will keep doing so if you keep trying every couple of minutes - as it will refresh the cache timer. Wait at least 30 mins or stop LMS, clear HTTP cache and restart LMS. Do you get the error with any other letter ? "Special" network setups such as VPNs, smartDNS etc can also influence this sort of behaviour bpa's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=1806 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=53229 ___ plugins mailing list plugins@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/plugins

For the most part everything is working fine on my setup but there seem to be a limited number of listen again programs that refuse to play - when I click them they show "connecting" and then nothing happens. Listen Again in HLS format seems to be restricted - as a non-UK user I get "403" for Listen Again program in HLS format. DASH still works OK. This may be * a UK vs non-UK change or * a gradual move away from HLS as BBC previously announced or * it could be a temporary glitch Plugin cannot do anything about this except advise to set "DASH" as the first preferred format in Settings. bpa's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=1806 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=53229 ___ plugins mailing list plugins@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/plugins

Can you play the following AAC stream on Classic - http://www.somafm.com/illstreet64.pls If the stream doesn't play on Classic or Duet - then the issue is not BBCiplayer plugin specific. bpa's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=1806 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=53229 ___ plugins mailing list plugins@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/plugins

Thanks for the speedy responses. I think your feeling could be right. I use my Classic 90% of the time and that has the issue. It gives "Stopped" on the first Play press, and "Item not found" or similar on subsequent presses. I tried the Duet and it behaves exactly as the Classic, i.e. only playing mp3. However, the Radio behaves exactly as it should, playing all versions of Listen Again. I have done nothing to the system, I went on holiday on 16th and all was well. I got back last night and the Classic wasn't working. For the record I did upgrade the OS a week before the holiday and reinstalled LMS. AFAICT BBC Sounds is repackaging of BBC Podcasts + BBCiPlayer Radio with specially comissioned podcasts for new material rather than just broadcast material. It may also include personalisation. BBCiPlayer won't change as it is broadcast material. BBciplayer will not do personalisation. For the new/other podcast material - tihink there are outher feeds already available. bpa's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=1806 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=53229 ___ plugins mailing list plugins@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/plugins

I have half a dozen Squeezeboxes and Raspberries about the house and enjoy having them all synced and playing the BBC on Saturday mornings while doing the chores ( my wife thinks I'm a bit dotty). Radio Four Friday night comedy, Bells on Sunday, The Shipping Forecast, BBC 2 Folk Show and of course the wonderful Six Music, I'd be lost without them :) VFRBOB's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=64083 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=53229 ___ plugins mailing list plugins@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/plugins

interestingly this statement is made in the BBC SOUNDS FAQ to a question about using BBC SOUNDS on an internet radio: Can I use BBC Sounds on my internet radio device? If you're listening via an internet radio device you should be able to listen to live BBC radio stations and access podcasts. *Full on-demand programmes (i.e. programmes which* *have already been broadcast) are not available on internet radio*; you'll need to access these either via a web browser or mobile/tablet app. diddy diddy's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=42856 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=53229 ___ plugins mailing list plugins@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/plugins

Hello Sorry I was not sure where to ask this question but BBC 6 Music has been announcing a new app called BBC Sounds these past two weeks. I had a quick nose in iTunes but it is not available over here in the Great White North (Canada). I was just wondering if any of you good folks knew anything about it and more importantly is it going to impact the Squeezebox BBCiplayer plug in ? The BBC quickly reverted the 30 days history to 7 days. It was on this thread or another one a few weeks back. So no point loading a different menu. If you want 30 day history use iPlayerExtras plugin (which requires iPlayer plugin to work). Picoreplayer uses Jiveplay (mainly the same as Radio/Touch) - Home should have been enough (digital clock is just a screen saver - Jiveplay is still running) but not what what Jiveplay caches. Waiting a while is generally a good thing - it allows for caches to expire. It's why so many things start working properly the next day. bpa's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=1806 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=53229 ___ plugins mailing list plugins@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/plugins

In that mnenu there is a list of program by scheduled time - you can play any of them - so you can listen to 6 O'clock news from 1-Sept After the days of the week there are the Porgramnames - click on a program names and you will get a list of the epsiodes of that program that are available to play - so you could binge play all episodes of "Book at Bedtime". Also with a Listen Again program say a daytime chat show Radio or a 3 hours concert - you can jump to specific segement which are indexed - so you can listen to the parts of the show which interestes you. bpa's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=1806 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=53229 ___ plugins mailing list plugins@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/plugins

Thanks to bpa for reviving Listen Again! I see one issue - hope someone can help? In LMS, when I click on 'Listen Again BBC radio 4 FM' LMS shows a page without the usual lists of dates etc. instead the page displays > Title: BBC Radio 4 FM > URL: http://www.bbc.co.uk/radio/aod/availability/bbc_radio_fourfm.xml The same thing also happens for Listen Again for BBC radio 2. I don't want the hassle of having to sort out Perl versions on the system each time I update LMS or the iPlayer plugin. That's the sort of thing installers are supposed to handle automatically in my view. There may be good reasons it can't be sorted out, but it is still a failing somewhere in my view. Re: [SlimDevices: Plugins] Announce: BBCiPlayer Plugin (UK only)
There is no working old iPlayer plugin version 1.3, users have to manually apply about 3 patches to the file. I know mherger moved the repo for the old 1.3 as the previous ones stopped working. But even with the newer repo I'm not sure bpa can put out an iPlayer 1.3, it was Triodes and maybe only he can issue a new one or maybe now only mherger can (I'm not sure what the restrictions are). In addition to which, I suspect bpa doesn't want to be responsible for merging all the 1.3 patches and issuing an updated 1.3 and then dealing with the support problems as they arise. Better in my view to let 1.3 wither on the vine and do no work about it. What I was asking is if it had already completely withered, but if live play still works I guess not. Life is not so simple. I've tested Extra on 7.7.3 with Perl 5.22 and it worked OK - so I think 1.6 should run as well. However BBC redirects a lots of http URLS to https (e.g. for metadata) and AFAICT BBC only support TLS 1.0 as a minimum - not SSL2 or SSL3. Also AFAICT the Perl 5.14.2 SSL/TLS support modules as shipped with 5.14.2 do not support TLS 1.0 only SSL2/3. The oldest Perl support that "ships" with 7.7.3 is 5.16. So although 1.6 may run with 7.7.3 - it is likely a user who started with a 7.7.3 installation has a version of Perl older than 5.14 and also their associated Linux distro doesn't have a build later than 5.14. In this case for some reason the LMS squeezboxc network is returing an error - nothing to do the iplayer plugin. As the destination URL is working for me and I guess others. I suggest: 1. Check all the additional repository URLs you have entered in your Plugins tabs are correct 2. My BBC Iplayer app has stopped working on my Squeezebox touch but I uninstalled it prior to taking a note of the on-screen message. Could someone please post a link to the bpa repository? I keep getting a bad gateway for the ones that I have tried. Can I just ask that you edit the 1st of the main iplayer threads you comment on to say if they are meant to be active or not? I still don't really know if the original "BBCiPlayer with DASH support - test version" thread is meant to be ignored or not (it specifies a different URL for the repo even though I thought you said it didn't). And please ask Michael whether he or you can edit the old iPlayer thread similarly. >From what I understand you are saying, it might also help if the 1.5.2 'beta test' thread was renamed, or at least clarified, since previous versions are now defunct (I think). If I create a new thread - people will still post to the old ones - so there is less chance of finding anything and more confusion. Use of Flac was by definition "bleeding" edge as it was part of BBC Taster - if you want to test you must pay attention. I implemented it (and segment times) as part of a user request. I try to make it as easy as possible. The flac stream is ONLY on the "Radio 3 Flac menu" > I still don't know which of the two repos I mentioned is the 'right' > one - I think you said DASH and 1.5.2 quote the same repo, but it seems > not, or I have read it wrong? I don't know what is "right" for you - do you want "stable" or "latest version to be tested" such as Flac ? Some people wanted "Flac" so the "right" one is the version with "Flac support" even though it is being tested. There is only and only ONE repo for stable DASH. It will always deliver the latest stable version - it was 1.5.2 and it isnow 1.5.3 and will be 1.5.x in the future. It will NOT deliver a version that is "fresh" or experimental or has not been used by a few other users. > I don't even know if HLS still works, since DASH is still test, or did I > miss something? I don't know whether HLS works either - as I said frequently I do not support HLS - this branch of the plugin is about supporting DASH and I have no non LMS way to test BBC HLS (I have no iPhone or iPad). > I hope you get a flavour of the confusion some of use feel. If you want just use the same URL I gave at the start of the 1.5.2 thread. This way life is simple for you. If you want "latest" / "bleeding" / "may break" then use the other URLs I post from time to time but they will disappear as a new version appear and so you have to pay attention - which means following threads and reading posts. I cannot test for UK users or OSX or Win10 so I must publicise latest versions to get a small group of testers with a spread of systems. bpa's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=1806 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=53229 ___ plugins mailing list plugins@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/plugins

Re: [SlimDevices: Plugins] Announce: BBCiPlayer Plugin (UK only)
You have lots of different problems - which I think are interacting and makign things worse. 1. You seem to pause a player when playing BBCiplayer live streams - this will cause the "estimated delay" messages. This pause may be due to a player setting "Pause on Power off". BBC does not allow pauses longer than 3 hours. To get rid of this issues change the player setting to "Stop on Power off" 2. The database seems to be corrupt or not setup properly - I'd advise "clear and rescan everyhting". 3. Youtub plugin has some problems - don't use when trying to solve this probem - oif the file descrpitpopgoies away then you'll know it is Youtube 4. There are a number of http 500 errors - in theory these are destination problems and nothing to do with your system but they seem t come from timeservers - so I suspect there is something messing with your network stack - what security s/w are you using ? 5. There are number of long dealys from BBC - this means you ISP connection is not great. What is your local network setup I hope LMS is not on a wireless connection ? The above is a first pass but until you address some of these issues - the real problem will not become clear. bpa's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=1806 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=53229 ___ plugins mailing list plugins@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/plugins
