into two different places both Pro Tools and the control pannel to

settings as I would rather not deal with a device that has portions I

Hi, Well as they are not made anymore and as Avid told me they will 
officially stop supporting that interface soon I want something that is 
modern and the firewire port on it is a 400 so I had to get an adapter 
cable to make it work with the 800 port on my system I want something

Hi, Good suggestions does the presonus require any external power or 
does it run off of the computer's power?  I will have a look at both of 
those products you talked about and does the box you connect to your 
main interface to expand it have any USB connections on it? Will it work

The Strip Silence trick works great! i found something like that among the 
pt expert tutorials as well. I also found there's an open request on the 
Avid web site for a specific feature, something like tab to peak, logic 
already got this function and if i'm not wrong, digi Audio included it a 
lot of years ago till it disappeared along the pt versions... it would be 
useful i guess not for a blind user only anyway, Strip To Silence do 
the job for now, thanks again!

hey John, Crystalizer is a reverse verb very nice for creative uses, Yes 
it's  accessible via control surface and VO, even if via VO changing some 
parameters takes more time. As you can read on the previous post on the 
Soundtoys plug ins, the preset menu is not accessible, but you can easily 
fix this issue downloading for free and accessible version of the presets 
from the PT with Speech web site, H.I.H.,

i downloaded the Crystalizer preset library and noticed the presets are 
sorted outside the factory folder, so .  I put each preset under their 
appropriate category for my need - i just imagined myself scrolling down 
and up hundred of weird labels in search of what i'll looking for after 
some hours mixing :-)  :-) if anyone need the new folder, ,, here's the 
link for the download

I use two or  more of these Sound Toys plug ins in almost all my mix and/or 
mastering, Decapitator and Echo Boy first of all. I confirm: zero 
accessibility problems for the parameters both via control surface and VO. 
Only the presets folder is not accessible and this is a pity because they 
are actually very useful, the the presets are in .toy and it's not possible 
to rename them. Anyway i got both Decapitator and Echo Boy presets library 
in .tfx in case anyone need them i will be glad to send them or trade them 
with i.e. Phase Mistress, Crystalizer etc. presets.

I'm sure a couple of people downloaded the free SoundToys H3000 plug-in 
when it was available a while ago but I'm not sure how many users here have 
used the rest of their plug-ins. Aside from the H3000, I don't recall any 
mention of SoundToys among users on the list. I've liked the SoundToys 
stuff when working at other studios but it was always in a situation where 
I was working with an assistant so I never had a chance to truly examine 
the accessibility. Well, I finally had a chance to sit down with the 
SoundToys 5 bundle and was pleasantly surprised. Specifically, what I've 
found is that the plug-in parameter layout in the plug-in view follows the 
layout on the control surface without exception, as far as I can tell. In 
addition, there's no extra "zero parameter" as we see in so many other 
plug-in views. That's a mystery to me but, hey, they seem to be doing 
something right.

Hi, I just got off the phone with Avid after tracking down my system ID
the issue was the grabber tool was not selected and the person told me
that the Digi 003 will probably work for a few more versions of Pro Tools
even when Avid stops officially supporting it.  They also turned off the
firewire networking which I did not know about as they told me I would get
better performance but they also told me that it would not hurt to start
looking for another interface and control surface so I plan to look around
my local area and see what physical devices they have in the store.  How
do the trade in programs work with Avid and their resellers as they told
me I should look into using these if I buy something else?  Nick Gawronski

Hi, I did check that checkbox and tried what you suggested and there is a
value in the selection edit length edit box.  However even when loop is
turned on and I can hear the selection looping still the deletion does not
delete the selection no matter what edit mode I am in.  Would calling Avid
support be the best option as I do have the educational support plan for a
few more months and they might be able to find out very quickly what is
going on as every time I try something to fix the issue I get nowhere?

Hi, Yes I have the correct track selected and command and shift and l does
tell me I have a loop as the selection plays over and over but if I press
the delete key on the full sized Apple keyboard during the looping no
deletion takes place and if I delete the selection when nothing is playing
the selection is not selected but the audio still exists.  What else
should I look at and once I find out what is causing these issues is there
a way to make the change global across all sessions as the default?  Nick

Hi, Yes and that is where I usually go to look for items then see if I 
can find a newer model then the one they are showing off in the store. 
I usually give them a call before I go and look at an item and get the 
person's name I am talking with so when I get there I can speak with 
them and they can show me the items.  How accessible is the focus right

as moving controls and fade and flip goes.  I also would like the same
amount of inputs and outputs of course more is always better but not less.
 I am looking into getting another setup as I want to do this when I can
still use my Digi 003 when instead I would be forced to upgrade to
something else so anything about these two different devices would be

Hi, That is strange that a CD duplication house does not want a master
disc as everyone I have looked at did as their view point was the master
disc had the exact layout of the duplicated or replicated discs that you
wanted to sell to users or that you wanted them to make for you for
whatever you were needing them for.  I always burn my audio discs from

Hi, When looking at my Avid account the Pro Tools 12.3 download is going
on but I found the codecs LE and the DX drivers installers for the mac. 
What do these do and should I install them like I installed all of the

Hi, I also have a Digi 003 with the moving fading controls that I would be
willing to sell if anyone is interested as I will want something that is
supported threw at least the next three versions or so of Pro Tools and if
possible something that also will allow me to connect it to my windows
system and record using programs that blind people use on the windows 
side of things.  I was hearing a lot of good things about the Artist
control surfaces and the new USB interfaces but don't want to lose any
inputs or outputs.  What is a good USB audio interface that has the same
amount of inputs and outputs as the Digi 003?  I don't mind getting one
that just works on the mac but would like something that works on both
systems so I can take it around and use it different places with different

Hi, I have been reading this topic and find this very interesting. I am 
looking to trade in my Digi 003 or would not mind selling it if someone 
on this list wants to buy it from me.  Does Avid make any control 
surfaces or interfaces that give me the same features as the Digi 003 as 
lots of people have heard about the new focus right interfaces which I 
am ok with getting but would want at least the same amount of inputs on 
that as the Digi 003 has and I guess I could buy an Avid control surface 
but does Avid still have moving controls like the Digi 003 does as I 
also don't want to lose those? I don't mind having two different devices 
as this way I could always travel with one then mix things at home.

Hi, the shutdown command can both halt and reboot the system if you type 
at the terminal prompt man shutdown you can read the unix manual page on 
the command.  I think there are more friendly GUI man page readers on

Hi, Yes this has been going on for me as well.  I usually just go
into terminal and run sudo reboot or sudo halt to either reboot or
halt the system.  You are prompted for your password then the
system will do what you tell it to.  I know this is probably not
the best option but at least the system does a clean reboot or

Ever since Avid introduced the Avid Audio manager which goes up
in the menu extras area, I've not been able to reboot nor

it, but as soon as I then relaunch ProTools, it comes right back,
even after being totally uninstalled.  What the hell!

Hi, Yes this has been going on for me as well.  I usually just go into 
terminal and run sudo reboot or sudo halt to either reboot or halt the 
system.  You are prompted for your password then the system will do what 
you tell it to.  I know this is probably not the best option but at 
least the system does a clean reboot or shutdown and you don't lose

Ever since Avid introduced the Avid Audio manager which goes up in the

about 3 of my machines, so yeah.  I can uninstall it, but as soon as I 
then relaunch ProTools, it comes right back, even after being totally 
uninstalled.  What the hell!

Here's the short version:

Yes, they require external power and most connect via USB. Your late
2011 mac book pro should have two USB 2.0 ports, ethernet, a firewire
800 port and an Intel Thunderbolt port and remember that you can use

chaining devices so connection wise, you really have nothing to worry
about...

As far as control surfaces with motorized faders that work with pt,
you have the Baranger x touch series, the older baranger BCF2000,
mackie control universal pro, the avid artist mix, avid S3, ssl
nucleas, and digital mixers with built in control surface layers like
the tascam dm2400 and the Baranger X32 producer etc.

Hi, yes that worked just fine.  That checkbox at the end of the dialog 
should I check it or uncheck it?  I have sound forge version 9 how 
accessible is 10 or 11 and is it worth the upgrade?  I use the windows 
system for a backup if Pro Tools is not working so this is why I am

sweep tones from 20 to 20KHZ but rather then just one minute like lots 
of them go I wish to do the entire sweep for around 10 minutes.  In Pro 
Tools 12 as playing around with that plugin that generates tones I am 
able to move the nob with voiceover but it does not go from one to 
another there is small skips like you would find on a hardware mixer so 
that process I don't think will work for what I want to do.  Any 
thoughts on this would be great.  Nick Gawronski

Hi, In regards to a delay setting I am searching for a delay plugin that 
will let me tap out the delay setting like you can tap out a tempo to a 
click track does any plugins support this feature if I first select what 
I wish to have delaied or if I just want the entire track to have that

the only way i found around this is to set your delay settings the way you want 
them, and them to save them as a preset, then you can load that preset if 
things do not stay  where you left them, This is quite  annoying, but it does 
work,. I am looking in to the use of another delay plugin also, maybe waves has 
something good.

Hi, I myself use Android devices as I like the openness of Android and 
not the closedness of Apple devices.  I think the touch screen for a 
blind person is a great thing but think some devices should still 
contain hardware keyboards as an option for users who don't use a touch 
screen usually I find it is because of lazyness rather then wanting to

with you about the trainers teaching Pro Tools and VoiceOver. I just begin my
study research and found amazing facts about visual impairment and blindness

The fist supposition was sight problems increase other senses, doing a little 
research and knowledge from T.V documentary and others shows it looks to be
true, so my next supposition was “So if I’m assuming blind mixers have a better

Voice Over and Pro Tools compound have. You gave me a new goal to study too
Nick, about Avid Trainers and their skills for teach both software’s working

What do you think about Voice Over on IPad or IPhone, I mean it looks than 
using a Touch Screen is easier and quickly, and the first product I think is the
Slate Pro Audio Raven Controller using Voice Over.

of surfaces exist with built in interfaces still exist with moving 
controls as I would like something that still has the abilities of the 
Digi 003 but am ok with just a control surface if that is the new way to

not general midi. SO in order to have a control surface work in PT it
has have some sort of HUI mode. The avid surfaces usually come pretty
much ready to go, but in fader flip mode i believe  you should be able to map a 
HUI surface to control things like a plug in. As scott said before if there is 
a way to do  this with the BCF2000 google could probably get one pointed in the 
right direction.

No need for a mouse. You already have a track pad. route mouse pointer, press

Hi, Yes I am using a mac book pro late model 2011 and have 10.7 threw 
10.10 all on different partitions so I can go between operating system 
versions should I need to.  Is there any settings in any versions I 
should look at as my mac book pro only has a track pad and no physical

What methods have you tried? Have you tried holding the Option key while 
clicking the track pad or mouse?

Aside from some weirdness in the session setup dialog, the rest of it is pretty 
much the same as with version 11. The new marketplace isn't yet accessible
but it's not a mandatory feature.
Let me just qualify my statements here by saying that, at the studio, I'm on 
version 11. The only versions of 12 that I've used have been beta on a
secondary bootup drive and that is purely for accessibility testing. I haven't 
spent loads of time in 12 and, by initial appearances, it's the same as 11 in
all other respects apart from the setup dialog. Some new features in the I/O 
Setup appear to be accessible.
