[OT] procmail errors in qmail-smtp logs
I know to risk a rebuke to ask this but I'am completely uncertain how-to cure this problem: To filter and forward mail toward my LAN I installed procmail and I add the line | preline /usr/bin/procmail into $HOME/.qmail All is working as hoped but giving a look to my /var/log/qmail/qmail-send/current,I see these lines: @40003af065620a8fa2dc delivery 79: success: procmail:_Renaming_bogus_mailbox _"/var/spool/mail/ik5bcu"_info_"/var/spool/mail/BOGUS.ik5bcu.KBE"/procmail:_Coul dn't_create_"/var/spool/mail/ik5bcu"/procmail:_Lock_failure_on_"/var/spool/mail/ ik5bcu.lock"/did_0+0+1/ Probably I should chmod my /var/spool/mail(?) but I don't know if it is correct and which permission should I give. Well I think that the better thing be to restore ../defaulthost with proper qmail name, but then I don't know how to set *all* mail toward my ISP...is it wildcard accepted on this case: echo *:mailserver.yourisp.com >> /var/qmail/control/smtproutes And if I'd send mail using my second ISP (spare)? -- Regards,: Marco Calistri <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> gpg key available on http://www.qsl.net/ik5bcu Xfmail 1.4.7p2 on linux RedHat 6.2

/var/qmail/control ?
Hello this is a very elementary question but I had mail lost due to a wrong configuration of my /var/qmail/control/locals. Using fetchmail as mail retrieval I used the line: smtphost localhost into .fetchmailrc Then since qmail host has an unknown domain name, I changed the file /var/qmail/control/defaulthost from linux.ik5bcu.ampr.org (private unknow name) to ik5bcu.ampr.org (my AMPRNET domain name) Messages are now accepted also from servers who require a FQDN (kernel.vger.edu): <[EMAIL PROTECTED]>: Connected to 199.183.24.194 but sender was rejected. Remote host said: 553 5.4.3 For MAIL FROM address <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> the policy analysis reports DNS error with your source domain. But MAILER-DAEMON@qmail now seems to be addressed to ik5bcu.ampr.org instead to linux.ik5bcu.ampr.org : Sorry. Although I'm listed as a best-preference MX or A for that host, it isn't in my control/locals file, so I don't treat it as local. (#5.4.6) --- Below this line is a copy of the message. Return-Path: <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> Received: (qmail 1289 invoked from network); 18 Apr 2001 12:57:27 - Received: from localhost (HELO box.tin.it) ([EMAIL PROTECTED]) by localhost with SMTP; 18 Apr 2001 12:57:27 - Received: from linux.ik5bcu.ampr.org ([213.217.186.123]) by fep22-svc.tin.it (InterMail vM.4.01.03.13 201-229-121-113) with SMTP So ignoring where the problem was I changed .fetchmailrc putting the line: smtphost linux.ik5bcu.ampr.org and removing localhost from /var/qmail/control/locals I did this on the wrong moment:qmail was running with previous configuration so when I retrieved mail from my ISP 73 messages have been lost because they was addressed to localhost. The final of this long and unclear description is: what is the right and safe use of localhost (if any!) inside /control/locals or /control/rcpthosts? Hello,I passed to tcpserver and all seems to work correctly: now I have /etc/tcp.smpt file with :allow rules, but I'd have some doubts to resolve: 1) May I remove now all my rcpthosts names except my hostname? 2) Shall I use supervise with tcpserver? actually my start scripts are: #/etc/rc.d/init.d/tcpserverd #!/bin/sh # Startup script for tcpserverd hackerized by kak Wed April 4 2001 # # # description: a tcpserver for qmail. /usr/local/bin/tcpserver -x /etc/tcp.smtp.cdb -v -u 502 -g 501 0 smtp /var/qmail/bin/qmail-smtpd \ 2>&1 | /var/qmail/bin/splogger smtpd 3 & exit 0 #/etc/rc.d/rc.local # /bin/echo "Metto qmail in background..." csh -cf ' /var/qmail/rc & ' I also installed djbdns aiming to use it for DNSCACHE and to enhance my small LAN,but I guess it is not working since a "dnsqr a" to my host failed: [ik5bcu@linux bin]$ dnsqr a linux.ik5bcu.ampr.org 1 linux.ik5bcu.ampr.org: timed out while a query to localhost works ok: [ik5bcu@linux bin]$ dnsqr a localhost 1 localhost: 43 bytes, 1+1+0+0 records, response, noerror query: 1 localhost answer: localhost 655360 A 127.0.0.1 I use now supervise for djbdns: [ik5bcu@linux bin]$ ps -ax|grep dns 718 ?S 0:00 supervise dnscache 720 ?S 0:00 supervise tinydns 722 ?S 0:00 /usr/local/bin/tinydns 725 ?S 0:00 /usr/local/bin/dnscache but may be something is missed. Beside this do you think I made a good choice (attempting)to install a dns considering that: 1) I have not any BIND on my system 2) I have only private hostnames and IPs 3) My INTERNET connection uses a dynamic IP supplied by my ISP Thanks and sorry for my long mail. -- Regards,: Marco Calistri <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> gpg key available on http://www.qsl.net/ik5bcu Xfmail 1.4.7p2 on linux RedHat 6.2
DNS for a simple LAN?
Hello,I wonder if in my case could I get enhancements with qmail, installing a DNS (also just a cached DNS) into my linux server. Please consider that: I'have not a registered FQDN,my IP on the INTERNET is dynamic, I have only few machines into my LAN with their private hostnames and relative IPs. I red that if I wanna use RELAYCLIENT="" I have to start my qmail by tcpserver, actually I have csh -cf '/var/qmail/rc &' into my rc.local, upgrading to tcpserver should I just comment out the above line and put the tcpserver line? Sorry for my questions! -- Regards,: Marco Calistri <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> gpg key available on http://www.qsl.net/ik5bcu Xfmail 1.4.7p2 on linux RedHat 6.2

When try to reply and the domain is not into ../rcpthost I get an error. I start my qmail from inetd using the line: smtpstream tcp nowait qmaild /var/qmail/bin/tcp-env tcp-env /var/qmail/bin/qmail-smtpd Sorry for misunderstanding! Some Hints?
Hello, this is my first post on this mailing list. I wonder if have I any chances to modify header lines so that qmail reports hostnames instead of IPs: Delivered-To: [EMAIL PROTECTED] Received: (qmail 1236 invoked from network); 1 Apr 2001 16:00:53 - Received: from unknown (HELO box.tin.it) ([EMAIL PROTECTED]) by 192.168.2.1 with SMTP; 1 Apr 2001 16:00:53 - Second:how to insert new names into /var/qmail/control/rcpthost unless edit this file? Third and last:using fetchmail as mail retrieval,I inserted the line forcecr to * here into .fetchmailrc, well I noted a speed down during mail downloads from my POP server (external ISP) [??] -- Regards,: Marco Calistri <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> gpg key available on http://www.qsl.net/ik5bcu Xfmail 1.4.7p2 on linux RedHat 6.2
