Dear Brett,
I also try usr /var/qmail/bin/dot-forward in .qmail, still don't work.

Whoops - I answered way more complicated than you wanted. Go to
~vpopmail/ first. cd into bin/ and ./vaddaliasdomain "domain1.com"
It will ask you for the domain you want to alias the mail to.

It's painfully simple.

Re: Entire domain forward to a single catch all account on diffrent domain

2001-07-26 Thread Jason Nunnelley

In the ~vpopmail you will find config files in the /bin that can
setup and manage domain mail. You can either manually set up all
domains that you need to point to that one address with the
"default" address (this is the one that receives all mail no matter
how stupid the sender is if they only get the domain right. EX:
[EMAIL PROTECTED] However, once this is done, you have the
option of forwarding those mailings to a specified address. The
other and easier bulk solution is to set them all as alias
addresses (alias domains) to a single domain and admin it
specifically to have a catch all address. If you are trying to have
a bulk list of domains that have a combination of independent
addresses in the domain and your little catchall or specified
address that goes to a single pop account, EX: all domains need to
have admin@domain e-mail go to [EMAIL PROTECTED] You simply have
those addresses forward (like a .forward - there is a command line
options as well as the web-based interface for each domain
management console). Of course, if you're only trying to get all
domains to send mail to one address on that box (strange need),
then it is much easier to just set up virt-tables that point
everything to your address. Vpopmail is more robust and available
for trouble than you need. You only need that if you have a
combination of personal needs with the user-friendly gui web-based
e-mail management where every domain can have their own
[EMAIL PROTECTED] and you never have to get involved at any level in
that decision.

To keep a copy, you need to put a Maildir or mbox delivery instruction in the
.qmail file, instead of trying to forward it to yourself (this causes a mail
loop, and qmail detects it and bounces the message):

&[EMAIL PROTECTED]
./Maildir/

Default forward address for entire domain with non sytems account assign file

I apologize if this is a dumb question, but I can't seem to figure out how
to set up a default forwarding address for virtual domains. In other words,
if an email is sent to [EMAIL PROTECTED], it will be forwarded to a

Maybe it has something to do with the setup I'm using, which is Paul Gregg's
non system account setup, http://www.pgregg.com/projects/.

I had the impression that I should setup something using + in the assign
file, but I'm just not figuring it out.

You need to learn some basic netiquette. To save you the pain of learning it
through the usual fiery ordeal, here's a couple of tips:

1) Every message you send to a mailing list costs some hundreds or thousands
of other users a minute or two to read. If you happen to ask a question which
is clearly answered in the documentation, the various FAQs, or in the mailing
list archives, you have just wasted that time for every other member of the
list. This is considered extremely rude. It also lowers the signal-to-noise
ratio of the list, making it a less useful resource for you and everyone else.
This is why netiquette requires that you "lurk" on the mailing list, reading
it but not posting, for the first few weeks. That way, you see all the common
questions & answers go by, and probably answer all the common newbie questions
you have at this point.

2) Statements like ``most of that "high qulified IT professionals" are same
as me who's just looking for help'' are inflammatory, incorrect, and
misguided. This list has, as members, the author of qmail, and the authors of
all the most commonly used add-ons, patches, supplemental documentation, and
complementary packages, as well as dozens of other people who are simply very
knowledgable users of qmail.

If you don't want to have to wear asbestos underwear you'd better do some

Read the man page of dot-qmail. If you put in your userid this creates
a forward to itself.

For example with

.qmail:
--
&[EMAIL PROTECTED]
./Maildir/

This forwards the mail to [EMAIL PROTECTED] and stores it
in your Maildir.

Check into AutoTURN, Dan's replacement for ETRN (part of serialmail package, I
believe). It's similar functionality to ETRN, but it's completely automatic
-- the remote machine doesn't have to know anything about ETRN.

Need store and forward

Hello,

I need to mount a mailserver to do store and forward for my costumers that
have their e-mail servers behind a dialup connection. My mail server must
accept mail for my costumers domains (and only for then) and when the remote
mail server connect to the internet and send an etrn or something like that,
my mailserver send all the messages to the remote server.

Can qmail do this? the remote mailservers are Microsoft Exchange.

thanks,

Why are you using qmail-remote? You should probably use qmail-inject instead.
Try something more along the lines of:

|/var/qmail/bin/qmail-inject -a -f"$SENDER" "$RECIPIENT"

Re: Forward Domain

2001-04-03 Thread Andrew Blogg

I am using the idea of having a domain alias, and then having the following
in the .qmail-domain-default

|vbscheck
|preline -dr /var/qmail/bin/qmail-remote mail.domain2.com $SENDER $RECIPIENT

Where vbscheck scans for typical vbs scripts/virus's in attachments and
returns an exit status whether to continue or not. That part isn't the issue
though.

The issue is that mailer-daemon bounce messages never go back to the
original sender, and I see the following in the logs.

deferral: DI_(qmail-remote)_was_invoked_improperly._(#5.3.5)/

If anyone has any idea's how to get around this problem, I would be forever
grateful.

(By the way, I can't use the QMAILQUEUE filter patch because I'm using
qmail+pgsql, and applying the two patches together fails.)

You can do it with qmail. But a line like

domain2.com:alias-domain2

into virtualhosts

and create a file in ~alias named .qmail-domain2-default looking like this
(all in one line)

|preline -dr /var/qmail/bin/qmail-remote mail.domain2.com $SENDER $RECIPIENT

That should do it.

I added the addresses with a comma between. It didn't work, so I went in

everything seems to have gone through just fine.

This works here, but there are many ways to skin a cat.

Login to the system (root)
Go to the home directory
# cd /uhome/johnqdoe
# sudo -u johnqdoe vi .qmail
add the following lines to the .qmail file to forward his mail

## Forward mail offsite
|forward [EMAIL PROTECTED]
## but still deliver locally
/uhome/johnqdoe/Mailbox

When Johnqdoe wants the mail to stop being forwarded to hotmail, just delete
the .qmail file.

On a UNIX box with BSDi 4.0, Apache, QMail and FP (though FP is not involved

My customer needs to have email forwarded to her in Germany as well as to

forward(1)
DESCRIPTION
forward forwards each new mail message to the specified

dot-qmail.0
 (3) A forward line begins with an ampersand:

 &[EMAIL PROTECTED]

Although it clearly states that it can be done, there is no mention of how
to set up the second forwarding address. I think what I have below is the
proper procedure for _one_ forwarding address.

echo "blackvengeance.com:alias-blackvengeance"
>>/var/qmail/control/virtualdomains
echo "&forwardaddress" >~alias/.qmail-blackvengeance-info

echo "blackvengeance.com" >>/var/qmail/control/rcpthosts'

My questiion is: do I add the second, comma separated, in that last echo
line as: 'echo
"&forwardaddress",'&secondforward">~alias/.qmail-blackvengeance-info' or do
I do a second / separate echo line as: 'echo
"&secondaddress">~alias/.qmail-blackvengeance-info' below the first?

Sure there is, in `man dot-qmail`, which says you can have multiple
lines. Create a .qmail file which has the following contents:
&[EMAIL PROTECTED]
&[EMAIL PROTECTED]
./Maildir/

and each message received will be forwarded to both addresses, _and_
placed in ./Maildir/ as well.

I don't understand your meaning here. If, by your statement, you mean
that you think your qmail server is using pop3 protocol to receive
messages from a particular domain, you are mistaken. Servers never act
as pop3 servers unless people are retrieving mail from their inbox via
the pop3 protocol. The rest of the time, one server will initiate a
SMTP connection with another. As far as simply setting the route up
like that in your smtproutes file, it cannot be done. smtproutes only
accepts hosts, never users. Use the alias method and your mail should
route smoothly.

if you take the smtproutes of qmail it is nearly the same than the
mailertable of sendmail but you cannot add a line like this
domain.com:[EMAIL PROTECTED] .is this true?

i don't want that the server will act as a popserver and then forward
it. i want the smtp to forward directly.

I don't see the problem. Just make domain2.dom a copy of domain1.dom. i.e. if
you're using a default forwarding rule in an ~alias/.qmail-default file for
domain1.dom, make a copy of it, or symlink to it, for domain2.dom. If you're
controlling domain1.dom with a system account foo, just make domain2.dom
controlled by the same system account foo, and it will get handled the
same way as domain1.dom.

Rewriting headers to hide one domain from another is a broken design, and is
a sendmail-ism.

domain2.dom is a virtualdomain.
The problem is that no user has it's mailbox in this server. This is a
forward-only server.
I've two posibilities:
- let forward server "convert" @domain2.dom to @domain1.dom or...
- let destination server manage both domains. But since destination server
is a MSExchange (without internet connectivity, of course) I should make
user per user conversion. :(
I would prefer use the first method.

If domain1.dom is a local domain, just make domain2.dom a local domain as
well. If domain1.dom is a virtualdomain, make domain2.dom another virtual
domain controlled by the same local user account as domain1.dom. Done.

Not without writing a patch. Qmail's method is more extensive and
flexible than sendmail's, anyhow.

> if you take the smtproutes of qmail it is nearly the same than the
> mailertable of sendmail but you cannot add a line like this
> domain.com:[EMAIL PROTECTED] .is this true?

No. The difference between simply forwarding an e-mail on to another
server and saving it locally is a little larger than it may appear.

> i don't want that the server will act as a popserver and then
> forward it. i want the smtp to forward directly.

Well, believe it or not, Kirill's suggestion doesn't make the server
`act as a popserver'. A popserver stores the mail for later
retrieval. The .qmail* files decide what happens to e-mail, not
necessarily where it is stored. Think about it. In simple terms, qmail
receives an e-mail. The domain name it is addressed to (in RCPT TO) is
not in locals, so it checks virtualdomains. It finds the domain there,
and forwards it on to prefix-domain-user locally. qmail then sees that
there is a .qmail file in ~prefix called .qmail-domain-default. It
then carries out the `commands' in this file which reroute the mail
again. So, in essence, the mail is never `stored' anywhere but gets
forwarded along a line. I think you will find that the time taken to
get one message from the outside world to the final user would be in
the...hmmm...let me think...seconds degree I would think?

qmail as forward mail server (limit number of connections)

2001-03-26 Thread Iñigo Martínez Lasala

Hi everybody.

I have a qmail server working as forward mail server. It relay mails from
all mail servers from my internal LAN and stores and forward mail from
internet to my internal mail server.
However I have a problem when limiting max number of outbout connections.
If I specify a number of connections in control/concurrencyremote, this
limit apply all connections from my mail server to internet and from my mail
server to my internal LAN.
I would need to specify one limit but only to those connections to internet,
not my LAN since I have bandwidth enough for my LAN but not for my internet
connection.
So, my question is, How do I specify a limit for outgoing connections for
all connections but one route?
At this moment I'm using an special "smtproute" for my internal mail and DNS
for outgoing mails (to internet). I have though perhaps I could use
concurrencylocal for incoming mail and forward it to my internal mail
server, but I have not how to treat it.
Thanks in advance.

I know nothing about vmailmgr, and suggest you ask on a mailing list
devoted to that program. With qmail, the standard way of forwarding
is to just mention the forwarding address in a .qmail file, and then
after the message is forwarded, it will go away unless you also

I created a forward to each account. Unfortunately with this configuration
Qmail to forward the mail without to keep a copy of those mails. I have
found that an alias (equal name to pop account) can be created pointing to
the pop accounts and then they still get their mail. Is there a simpler way
to fix this?.

Re: Forward Domain

2001-02-19 Thread David Krix

You can do it with qmail. But a line like

domain2.com:alias-domain2

into virtualhosts

and create a file in ~alias named .qmail-domain2-default looking like this
(all in one line)

|preline -dr /var/qmail/bin/qmail-remote mail.domain2.com $SENDER $RECIPIENT

That should do it.

You don't need to. qmail records the recipient in a Delivered-To: header.
Just use Hotmail's "view message source" to see the headers.

Prepend message before forward to indicate original recipient

2001-02-03 Thread Sean Brown
I have qmail set up to recieve mail from a few different virtual domains.  For most of them, I have all mail sent to those domains forwarded to one e-mail account (a hotmail account) using .qmail files.  I would like to prepend the message so that when I read the body of the message using hotmail, I can tell which account it was originally sent to before it was forwarded.  It would look smoething like this:Originally sent to : [EMAIL PROTECTED]And then the real body of the message...I assume this would be done in the .qmail file before the forward command, but how? As noted elsewhere, you could do this with the QUEUE_EXTRA functionality,
and a filter to only capture incoming mail. See Dan's qmail FAQ about
"How do I keep a copy of all mail?" or similar.

You could also have .qmail files for every user in your system (except
all_users) which forward a copy to all_users@your_domain.

The .qmail file ~alias/.qmail-default will handle all mail which doesn't
match another local user or more specific alias.

I believe you are seeking the queue_extra settings in extra.h in
the qmail source. You need to download the source package
and read some documentation on what modifications you make
to the source. Good luck!

URGENT : Forward all mails in one account.

2000-12-20 Thread Bhavesh Vakil

To all qmail members,

I am completely new to qmail. I developed one application related to mail
system. According to my requirement I want to collect all my mail messages
to one particular system account. I achieve same functionality with Sendmail
in Linux.

My system configuration is give below.

I user RedHat 6.2 Linux
Domain name is : myserver.com
Just for example I have following system account in my system
1: user_a(email address : [EMAIL PROTECTED])
2: user_b(email address : [EMAIL PROTECTED])
3: user_c(email address : [EMAIL PROTECTED])
4: user_d(email address : [EMAIL PROTECTED])
.
.
.
n: alluser(email address : [EMAIL PROTECTED])

Now, I want to achieve following functionality,

When [EMAIL PROTECTED] receives mail in his mail box automatically that
mail is also available in [EMAIL PROTECTED] (it means direct copy). Same
way if any user like (user_b, user_c,.) receives any mail then all mail
is also available in my alluser account. So my alluser account contains all
mails received through @myserver.com domain.

The second functionality is, if some user say notexist is not available in
my system and if my system receive mail with that address then automatically
it send an bounce message to sender. I want to disable this bounce back
feature if user not found. If user exist or not exist, my system accept all
messages in [EMAIL PROTECTED] user,

I achieve above functionality with sendmail like this way,

I added following two lines in my sendmail.mc file

define('LUSER_REPLY','local:[EMAIL PROTECTED])
feature('virtusertable','hash -o /etc/mail/virtusertable')

and I remove allmasquerade feature so system never generate bounce back
message to sender if user is not exist.

My /etc/mail/virtusertable file contains only one line.
@myserver.comalluser

So with this line allmessages is available to my alluser account.

I just setup qmail according to installation instruction and I successfully
receive and send all messages. But how I setup my above requirements. In
sendmail we have one main file called sendmail.mc is there any file for
qmail setting ?

Regards,

Bhavesh.

Your remote users should use their ISP's SMTP server for their outgoing mail.
This is what ISP smarthosts are for. If for some reason this isn't feasible,
you could use controlled relaying (as opposed to being an open relay).
The best solution, in my opinion, is to use an SMTP-after-POP scheme like
Bruce Guenter's relay-ctrl (http://em.ca/~bruceg/relay-ctrl/).

Relaying is most definitely the issue here if your webmail program sends mail
by SMTP, rather than by calling qmail-inject directly. What you probably
need to do is set the RELAYCLIENT environment variable for connections from
127... addresses in your tcpserver tcprules file. See the qmail FAQ for
more information.

Qmail to forward remote mail

2000-12-17 Thread Luiz de Almeida

I have an issue in that I have Remote users that need to use my E-Smith Mail
server and I have toyed with the idea of opening up the box for RELAY but
have been firmly told not to even consider this. My next option has been
Webmail which I now have working but the last hurdle is getting the remote
users to login and be able to send.
Remote users = users not local to my LAN
External Source = external e-mail address other than on my LAN.

So I can use my browser to login and view my mail. Then I can send a message
to any user that has been created on that server and is therefore a local
user on the LAN. BUT if I try to send a mail to a user that is not a user
that has been created on the local server i.e. to the 'your' being you the
readers mail address it does not go. Kind of like it is not allowing RELAY
although I am under the impression that RELAY is not an issue here. What do
I need to change in the qmail config to get this to work?

Any Help Please.

On B, put blah.com in control/rcpthosts *only*. That's all you have to do.

Hi,

This is straightforward, using control/locals, control/rcpthosts and optionally
control/smtproutes:
Your primary MX, "A" is where the mail is delivered, so put your domain in
control/locals
and control/rcpthosts. Your secondary MX, "B", where mail is not delivered, merely held
while "A" is unreachable, has your domain in control/rcpthosts but not control/locals
- so
that any mail accepted by this machine is not regarded as local and will be queued for
later remote delivery. Remote delivery will be attempted periodically by qmail (see the
man pages for details of this). You didn't mention if the 100MBps link was a public or
private link. If the latter, you need to add the private address of "A" to
control/smtproutes for your domain - this overrides the DNS entry for "A".

More details on all the above in the standard sources of documentation - start at
www.qmail.org, esp. see the man pages, Dan's site (cr.yp.to), Dave Sill's Life with
qmail
and the qmail howto.

cheers,

Andrew.

Qmail server set to forward to another host on the local ethernet.

2000-12-11 Thread Rawlinsons Group \(Brisbane\)

I haven't done this yet so I can't provide real internet names.

I will have the following:

Computer A (On ISP Primary)
 | - Linked via 100Mbps ethernet
Computer B (On ISP Secondary)

I'd like to setup A as the first MX record for host blah.com and B as the
secondary MX record for blah.com both on different ISPs and connected via
100Mbps ethernet.

If A is down and B starts receiving email for A, how do I forward all the
emails B receives to A over the ethernet and not keep copies of those emails
on server B?

Thankyou very much.

Adding a forward to an external account

2000-11-09 Thread Wilson, Frank

Im using Qmail with vpopmail and I'm trying to figure out how to be able to
send a forwarding message to
an external account.

I have a couple of servers with Qmail and vpopmail on them, but the one in
question is diffrent from the others somehow.

Here's the case:

The domain is ermax.dk, and let's say the user is edb
The 'edb' user is just a pop account, and dosn't have any aliases.
The directory listing for that account is : /home/vpopmail/domains/ermax/edb
When mail is received for [EMAIL PROTECTED] a copy should be sent to a GSM phone,
eq: [EMAIL PROTECTED]

On my other server I solved this by editing the alias files under
/home/vpopmail/domains//.qmail-fjw

Like so :

/home/vpopmail/domains/wise.no/frank/Maildir/
&[EMAIL PROTECTED]

And it works just fine!
But when I tried doing the same on the other server and with ermax.dk is
just wouldn't deliver to any address at all, local or
remote.
I guess this has got something to do with the fact at there are no aliases
under ermax.dk, but is there a way to do forwarding
to a secound account remotely with just the pop account?

.forward VS .qmail ?

2000-10-31 Thread Mr.F

Hi all,
I am trying to use maildir instead of mbox. To set maildir the
document guides me to
% maildirmake $HOME/Maildir
% echo ./Maildir/ > ~/.qmail

and and replace ./Mailbox with ./Maildir/ in /var/qmail/rc. I want
to use both .forward and .qmail. so my /var/qmail/rc is

exec env - PATH="/var/qmail/bin:$PATH" \
qmail-start '|dot-forward .forward
./Maildir/' splogger qmail

But I found that maildir is work but .forward doesn't work.

PS. Before I set maildir i use mbox format, .forward is normally work.

Thanks,

I have as well, but still prefer the Reply-To: field to be set. It's a
default that matches the behavior I most often desire, namely, sending a
single response to the list alone.

>HOWEVER, in saying that, I would really like to see more MUA's with Reply
>(using Reply-To defaulting to From), Reply-To-All and Reply-To-List (reply

I would also love to see that; most, IME, have simply Reply (to From:) and
Reply-to-All, which is unsatisfactory. On this list, for example, I can
either Reply and then edit the To: field to the list address instead of the
individual address, or Reply-to-All and then trim out all extraneous
addresses from the To: and possibly Cc: fields.

So, the widespread acceptance of mailers with that third option would
greatly brighten my day, and would make the whole "to munge or not to
munge" debate fairly moot.

Until then, though, I don't think that just posting the URL of the Munging
Considered Harmful page is a sufficient response to someone asking about
the best way to set up a system to munge headers. If we've established that
the decision to munge headers is a personal one, and that there are good
reasons to do it, then a response that basically says "Here's why you
shouldn't do that" is not a sufficient answer -- in fact, it's completely
un-useful.

BTW, I'm not trying to pick on you; I'm just picking on your answer, a bit.
I've seen a lot of anti-munging sentiment on this list, and as
someone who was initially swayed by Chip Rosenthal's arguments -- until I
started actually running some mailing lists! -- I've decided to try to
represent the other side a bit. Hope you don't mind.

Well, I guess it comes down to personal preference. In my time, I've
seen /many/ personal e-mails end up on mailing lists, and I've had it
happen myself a few times. I am thankful for lists that don't set
reply to, since most people I deal with (including myself) prefer
reply-to-all. I don't have time to sift through all newsgroups and
lists all the time, and having people reply to my personal address as
well as the list suits me all ways... HOWEVER, in saying that, I would
really like to see more MUA's with Reply (using Reply-To defaulting to
From), Reply-To-All and Reply-To-List (reply to the mailing list

Forward and Reply-To field

2000-10-30 Thread Davide Dozza

Hi,

I am using qmail and I would like to setup an e-mail account
that simply forward e-mail to a set of users (mailing list).
The problem is that during forwarding I would like to change
the field Reply-To in order people partecipating to the
mailing list can simply reply to the e-mail address of the
mailing list.
As this is a very simple mailing list I wouldn't use mailing
list manager so I would like to do the job simply with
qmail tools.

Any suggestion?

RE: .forward and program execution

2000-10-19 Thread Tony Publiski

/etc/aliases is phased out in QMail. You cannot use it. What you would do
in that case, is create a .qmail file in the home directory of the user you
want to execute that for.

If you wanted to execute your below example and keep a local copy of the
message, your .qmail file would look something like:

|/usr/bin/filter.pl 7507203
./Maildir/

If you didn't want a local copy kept, you'd remove the ./Maildir/
If you wanted to forward a copy to another email address, you'd make a line
that says

&[EMAIL PROTECTED]

Can I use /etc/aliases file to execute a program using qmail?

A tipic entry on /etc/aliases for my system is:

this line is used to send a pager notification to my pager, and it works
OK on Sendmail, but what I am trying to do is to migrate to qmail and I

In qmail docs I have found that qmail does not allow this "insecure" way

echo cliff > .qmail-default
/etc/init.d/svscan stop
/etc/init.d/svscan start

sent mail to [EMAIL PROTECTED] and it bounced like so instead of
going to [EMAIL PROTECTED]

am i missing something?

domains, just use ~alias/.qmail-default to deliver to a maildir (but
