I was trying to get a feel as to why there are so many package updates
and why you did not hold off on updating packages and you answered
that with your response.

No offense taken. The bulk of the updates have been to add new distros.
Seemed a little silly to stop support at Fedora Core 6 when that distro
was 3 years out of support.

When I was indicating problems, I was just speaking of random posts,
not anything specific to the recent package issue. The system is
unbelivelby stable and many of the problems posted are easily fixed by
the poster doing a little research though there are some advanced
questions that do require someone like you to get their hands dirty.
I was personally having many problems with my installation. I spent a
little time, posted a couple questions on the list that were answered
quickly, and got through them. I have made many modifications, some
of which I forgot to document when I did my install. This has caused
me many headaches. I have never used spamdyke. I just installed last
month your Qmailtoaster-Plus to look at a few things that it
performed. I have used a couple of the scripts but still have not
gotten completely comfortable with change.

Okay - I thought you were pointing out some problems that I was
overlooking or something.
Glad to hear the software is working for you. It's been working for me
and by the number of downloads, looks like it works for others as well.

Enjoy!

Qmailtoaster updated so much? I know I have not updated most of the

migration). On a small setup, I am sure it is a lot easier to perform
regular updates, but on a large one it has a potential to be a nightmare.

Is there a reason why toaster is not slowed down a little? Jake, I do
not know how you keep up with all the package updates and all of the
problems that keep getting posted on the list. My head spins
sometimes as I read it. I am surprised that qmailtoaster 1.x has not
been frozen so that development of 2.x can be fully engaged. Changing
the IMAP client is a big deal and I am excited that it will be done in
the next release. The other item I think should be a focus is the web
gui, not only the admin side which has been a recent focus on this
list, but the customer side as well. I think you are doing a great
job Jake.

The Qmailtoaster is a great project and I really enjoy seeing the
activity on the list regarding it.

The packages are updated to add new distros and bump the software up a
version or two. There was previously no development at all for
Qmailtoaster for almost 2 years and since I took the project over I
decided to bring some things up to date. It's your system - you don't
have to update anything. I think that freezing the 1.3 branch is not a
wise choice. The project lost 70% of it's contributing base when the
development was previously frozen and that's not a mistake I want to
continue with.

I'm unclear as to what you mean by "all of the problems that keep
getting posted on the list." As far as I can remember this is the only
real screw-up I've made to the packages and I did get them fixed in a
couple hours - not like the clamav debacle. Most of the posts on the
list had to do with adding new distros and the problems involved, which
brings us back to the point of why I'm updating the packages. I think a
project that gets updated periodically and is maintained has more of a
life than a project that has not been updated in 3 or 4 years.

Also not sure what you mean by a nightmare for large installations - I
run these same packages on my installations as well. Some servers range
from 2 users (this one) to a single server that has 3100 users to a
cluster that has 40,000+ users at the moment. I find it very easy to
update the packages for all of these systems as long as you do at least
15 minutes of thinking and planning ahead before just jumping into the
puddle.

There is a web admin gui, vqadmin. I also have QControl that does not
have the problems that vqadmin does. If there's a feature that you would
like to see in QControl then send me an email offlist and I will look
into it.

The next qmailtoaster-plus rpm is now updated. All the latest fixes are
included, as well as recognition of the these latest distro versions.

I recommend updating QTP if you're using qtp-newmodel to upgrade the

Install the source RPM, edit the spec file so it works with Mandriva
2009, and send the spec file back to me. I'll make the needed changes
from there and add it to the main trunk. If you just edit the mdk103
directives, that is fine as well. I'll create the new directove for the
new edition.

I'll work some more this week and try to see if my fix works. I've got a

Thanks for the note.

What version were you upgrading from?

I upgraded from squirrelmail-toaster-1.4.17-1.3.11

Thanks. I'll try and run a test this weekend using that version and see
if I can reproduce the results. I made an adjustment to the RPM to work
around this but I don't have a way to test it out unless I can reproduce
the issue.

Don't take it personal Nigel - it's a numbers game and I lost. Out of
the people that responded to the survey I did, Mandriva constituted 1%
of QMT's user base (basically there's you and 1 other user). When you
posted that you had an error I looked at the number of downloads (which
was currently at 37 when you posted) and nobody else had made me aware
of any issues I honestly didn't even really look at the error in depth
and made an assumption. Guess I just needed to prove the old ASSumption
analogy again. Sorry about that.

I'll look into the error sometime over the weekend - it should be an
easy one to fix I believe.

Nice work. Please submit tickets to
http://devel.qmailtoaster.com/flyspray/ so that this can actually be

Thanks,

The spamassassin spec file need to be changed to use %config(noreplace) rather
than just %config (the addition of which doesn't really do anything useful on
its own).

  %config(noreplace) %attr(0644,root,root)

%{_sysconfdir}/mail/spamassassin/v310.pre

Oh, and another thing. ezmlm-toaster needs "-q" added to %setup to be
consistent with the other packages.

[qmailtoaster] UPDATED PACKAGES: simscan-toaster, isoqlog-toaster, clamav-toaster, spamassassin-toaster, qmail-toaster

2007-03-07 Thread Erik A. Espinoza

Greetings,

I have moved the following packages from devel to the main site:
simscan-toaster, isoqlog-toaster, clamav-toaster,
spamassassin-toaster, qmail-toaster

The ChangeLog is as follows:
simscan-toaster (Changed tcp.smtp defaults exempting rbl checks on
localhost, better defaults for DKVERIFY)
clamav-toaster (upgraded to 0.90.1, removed stderr patch and config)
qmail-toaster (added bigdns patch, linefeed patch)
isoqlog-toaster (Fix ownership of cron.sh to root:root)
spamassassin-toaster (Upgraded to 3.1.8, Marked
local.cf/v310.pre/v312.pre as configs)

All of these packages are recommended updates, with qmail-toaster,
clamav-toaster and spamassassin-toaster being the most critical in
that order.

Thanks,
Erik

I have an implementation which is using clamav 0.90rc2 and when I
accidentally unpluged the server clamav was complayning of : *
ERROR: Socket file /tmp/clamd exists. Either remove it, or configure a
different one. *

I tried it again and it was the same !
So if you don't have power issues it should be safe. I think that
shouldn't be issue for many many users.

Re: [qmailtoaster] UPDATED PACKAGES: clamav-toaster, squirrelmail-toaster, simscan-toaster, maildrop-toaster, courier-authlib-toaster, courier-imap-toaster

2007-01-10 Thread Eric \"Shubes\"
However, if you use qtp-newmodel with qtp-build-rpms v0.2.3
(qmailtoaster-plus-0.2.3-1.3.5 or later), the "--define 'spambox 1'"
parameter will be used unconditionally for qmailadmin-toaster, so you should
be sure to upgrade to the latest maildrop-toaster if you upgrade
qmailadmin-toaster using qtp-newmodel.

Since there is now a new maildrop package which i assume has the mailfilter
spam support, should the qmailadmin be modified so it defaults with --define

Run the filter through tai64nlocal to convert the time. Ex:
tail /var/log/qmail/smtp/current | tai64nlocal

To view the timestamp in "normal" format, you would use tai64nlocal.
So, you would do something like this for your smtp log:

"cat current | tai64nlocal | more"

I just noticed something in the update.sh script (I've been working on
all day) which could be your problem. There's an errant "exit 0" near
the end before the configuration files are restored, right after the
"Finished" message.

Take a look at your script. If you have the "exit 0" statement there,
try executing the commands after it to the end of the script. These
commands should restore your configuration files, and restart qmail.
(You might want to add a '-p' option to the cp commands).

Yes, I have backups and old mail is ok, but the problem is incoming
emails not getting delivered. Any idea where they are in the system so
I can print them out and hand deliver them?

All back files in /usr/src/qtms-upgrade/ are still intact.
all the setting files in /var/qmail/control look ok.

Hi Eric,

What distro are you using?

What do your logs show?

Did you backup prior to upgrading?

Are all your backup files from the upgrade script still intact
at /usr/src/qtms-upgrade/* ?

We really want to help but, we need more information than we're receiving
if we are to do so.

Nick

Ok. it's really bad. The mail server just eats the mail. No
bounce, no

error, nothing. I need to role the install back, ASAP!

I am having problems with the update script also. First, I had to
manually
compile and install libdomain and courier-authlib. After it's all
installed, I can no longer receive any email.

Re: [qmailtoaster] updated packages broke my qmail install

2006-06-12 Thread Eric \"Shubes\"
I just noticed something in the update.sh script (I've been working on
all day) which could be your problem. There's an errant "exit 0" near
the end before the configuration files are restored, right after the
"Finished" message.

Take a look at your script. If you have the "exit 0" statement there,
try executing the commands after it to the end of the script. These
commands should restore your configuration files, and restart qmail.
(You might want to add a '-p' option to the cp commands).

Let us know...

Hi,

If this is a production server, did you do a backup before running the
upgrade script.

If it is a production server & no backup: set sshd_conf to permit root
login, add "sshd : ALL" to hosts.allow and send the root password and ip
address for the server to [EMAIL PROTECTED] and I will take a look at it.

It is 10PM at my home. I will be here until 11PM.

I don't know of any rpm for dspam. I thought about doing one but
haven't had any spare time for it.

I did it all from scratch. I installed my toaster and then just added
the extra bits I needed.

I don't bother with the Web GUI. I use my custom scripts and IMAP
folders for training. Read thru my link and you should get an idea on
how I have it setup.

Give VMware a try. I use their free server and player to create and
destroy setups all the time...:)

ok, i've got some :)

1) am i correct in my understanding that Qmail-Toaster 1.2 doesn't
include a dspam RPM? if so, has anyone had any luck with finding one
that works, or do i need to build my own?

2) i found instructions for setting up dspam with qmail and vpopmail
using the mysql backend (http://www.wimble.info/articles/dspam-qmail-
vpopmail.php). did you use a similar procedure, or did you do
something different?

3) did you get the dspam web interface working (to enable users to
set preferences, access their quarantine, and classify spam by
hand)? did you need to do anything significantly different from the
procedure described here (http://dspamwiki.expass.de/
CGI_with_Apache_suexec)?

sorry to ask before trying it myself, but i don't currently have
access to a test system, and i'd rather be sure before hacking around
with my production server.

thanks,

Awww man, I just installed all this stuff on Monday!

Has qmail-toaster been updated so that it "Provides sendmail-command" ?
This is needed for Mandrake 2006 since mail readers now require
"sendmail-command".

[EMAIL PROTECTED] SPECS]# rpm -q --requires mutt
sendmail-command

Thanks,
Nigel

good reason.

Vpopmail is now current. You may have to reinstall courier-imap since it
builds against the vpopmail library files.

Qmailmrtg has a Working Dir variable so it now works with all distros.

Qmail has numerous fixes and a new patch, listed below. As soon as I have
a stable version with qmail-remote-auth and domainkeys, I will get it to
you.

I had many requests for features. Many of them are not included because,
with the number of patches we use, maintaining a stable platform becomes
extremely difficult.

As always, keep a good backup when updating a production server.

Nick

[qmailtoaster] Updated packages

2006-04-28 Thread Nick Hemmesch
Hi all,

I placed updated packages up for download today. All of the changes I
wanted in qmail are not included yet, domainkeys and remote-auth. I am
working on both of those features. I found that eMPF is still in beta, for
