Re: [SlimDevices: Radio] 7.6.1 r9482 has messed up my SB Radio
I've also noticed in the last couple of weeks my SB Radio has been a pain. I walked in the room the other day and it disconnected then reconnected to the network (wired) while my other devices were ok. I usually get the alarm twice in the morning lately, the first is some canned music which I didn't selected, after turning it off I get another alarm with my selected station. I often walk in and it is on my station but is stopped, I need to press the play button to get it to go, I never use these buttons normally. My SB Touch and AR Internet radio are not showing the same issues. -- sckeith sckeith's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=42383 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=89900 ___ Radio mailing list Radio@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/radio

I also recommend contacting Logitech support because -- in addition to reasons cited by bpa -- sometimes users here have reported that Logitech has been just plain generous/accommodating in replacing products that are recently out of warranty. It can't hurt to try. -- aubuti aubuti's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=2074 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=89900 ___ Radio mailing list Radio@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/radio

You should still contact support, They may be able to help for example there may have been a product recall. IIRC with some early Duet controller there was a known problem with the antenna placement which affected some but not all. -- bpa bpa's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=1806 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=89900 ___ Radio mailing list Radio@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/radio

Thanks for the suggestion. Unfortunately my card only gives me 90 days purchase protection - no extended warranty. For the time being I've managed to stabilise my setup by adding an access point in the same room using a spare router. Re: [SlimDevices: Radio] 7.6.1 r9482 has messed up my SB Radio
yeah the repeater is probably a much better wifi client than the Radio . The bridge7repeater is it modern N class device , then it should be a significant improvement I would be surprised if it could be fixed in a fw update it is most likely a coincidence that it stopped working around the 7.6.1 fw update . I'm quite sure without being 100% certain, that not much tweaking is done to the wifi part of the code . I had similar issues with my old SB3 2-3 years ago at the same time I upgraded, a neighbor decided to setup a wifi network that disturbed mine . Using netstumbler is a good idea . Upgrades is pretty frequent and so is the changes in the close by networks (14 last time I bothered to count ) . So this inverse serendipity is bound to happen to all of us sometimes . Is it still under warranty , the wifi chip could simply be broken . My flat is only 69 square meters my radio works everywhere inside my apartment my router is somewhere in the middle of the apartment . Placement of wifi router, if it sits in a corner of the house most it's strength is wasted on the outside of the house ,somewhere in the middle is a good place. -- Mnyb Main hifi: Touch + CIA PS +MeridianG68J MeridianHD621 MeridianG98DH 2 x MeridianDSP5200 MeridianDSP5200HC 2 xMeridianDSP3100 +Rel Stadium 3 sub. Keep in mind that the wifi antenna of the radio is not nearly as good as the wifi antenna of the bridge you've attached to (or a laptop, etc.). The other issue is not wifi strength but wifi interference from other networks. Use netstumbler or vistumber (google for programs) to find nearby networks. Re: [SlimDevices: Radio] 7.6.1 r9482 has messed up my SB Radio
Just a quick further update... Last night I disabled the wireless on the Radio and plugged it via ethernet into a wireless bridge, the idea being to eliminate the Radio's internal wireless as a source of problems. This morning I streamed an internet radio station for over an hour, sync'd with 2 other players, with no issues whatsoever. Clearly it's early days, but this certainly hints that the Radio's own wireless is a problem. Of course doing this rather defeats the purpose of the Radio as it now can't be moved due to the ethernet link. If, however, this remains stable, it would be nice to hear from the Logitech guys as to what can be done to the wireless (firmware?) on the Radio to sort it out. If the answer is 'nothing', then at least I know I need to start looking for another solution such as Airplay speakers. -- twynne 1 SB Touch, 2 x Booms, 1 x SB3, 1 x SB Radio twynne's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=1326 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=89900 ___ Radio mailing list Radio@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/radio

I had some initial success by adding a 2nd router (Apple Time Capsule that I had abandoned over a year ago) and connnecting the Radio to that (wireless). This seemed to work better, and I had started to think the issue was between my other (Netgear) router and the Radio. That said, I've recently upgraded to LMS and everything is now unstable. Yesterday I found perl running at near 100% CPU on the server, after which I forced a restart. This morning I woke up to the default alarm on my Boom - a clear indicator that the server still isn't happy. I'll have to look at it this evening to see if I can make any sense of it. As an aside, given the amount of Apple kit I now have at home I'm giving serious consideration to eBaying all of the Slim/Logitech equipment and getting some Airplay-enabled speakers in. I'm sure it will cost, but it's got to be more stable than this! -- twynne 1 SB Touch, 2 x Booms, 1 x SB3, 1 x SB Radio twynne's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=1326 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=89900 ___ Radio mailing list Radio@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/radio

I'm running 7.5.1 from SSOTS on my NAS, which for my set-up is a very stable build. Have tried all of the normal recommendations, and very reluctant to change squeezeserver software version, or firmware on the Radio, as this has always had problems and I end up having to do factory reset on Radio or backwardating software (back button + power button). Radio works fine hard-wired on ethernet cable, but since I have the battery pack it defeats the point of buying it! and you're sure you don't accidentally have two things using the same IP address. You have one router handing out addresses with DHCP? An odd problem and not a general problem with the firmware and the RADIO. At least I can report that I use two different RADIOS at two different locations (one is vortexbox server and one is win7(64) server. Both are SbS 7.6.2 (but 7.6.1 was working fine too). The firmware on both radios is: 7.6.2-r9545. Both radios are connected via WIFI. not sure, but this problem sounds more like wifi interference. Even if nothing has changed about your setup, what about your neighbors? New N router turned on high power? New microwave next door, etc. Use netstumbler or vistumbler to see what nearby WIFI networks are being used and what channels they are using. Be sure to use a channel that is far away from nearby wifi channels. also, not sure if you mentioned, but make sure you have SSID turned to display in your network. Having SSID hidden can sometimes cause issues (and is zero security in any case, as you would notice from netstumbler or vistumbler program, which sees everything, even if SSID is turned to not display). -- garym Location 1: Vortexbox Appliance 6TB (1.10) > SbS 7.6.2 > Transporter, Touch, Boom, Radio w/Battery (all ethernet except Radio) Location 2: Win7(64) laptop > SbS 7.6.2 > Touch>Benchmark DAC I, Boom, Radio w/Battery (all ethernet except Radio and laptop) Retired: SB3, Duet Receiver Controlled at both locations with: iPhone (iPeng), iPad (iPengHD & SqueezePad), CONTROLLER, or SqueezePlay 7.6 on Win7(64) laptop Ripping (FLAC) - dbpoweramp, Additional Tagging - mp3tag garym's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=17325 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=89900 ___ Radio mailing list Radio@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/radio
Re: [SlimDevices: Radio] 7.6.1 r9482 has messed up my SB Radio
I too am having nothing but trouble with the Radio with recent firmware releases (whilst 2 Booms and an SB3 on my network work perfectly). It's hard to say when the trouble started, but it was certainly within the last several weeks and I'm guessing since the 7.6.1 update. In my case the radio will play for a short while - anywhere from a few minutes to about half an hour, after which it stops and shows no network connectivity. I've tried different positions, different rooms, powered vs. battery, etc to no avail (incidentally it reports 93% signal strength in it's 'usual' position when connected). When this happens all controls on the player also become unresponsive, so I strongly suspect the firmware. Hard power off will resolve it briefly, but it just happens again within 30 minutes. I have not changed the position of the radio in over 18 months when I last moved home. The router is the same, router firmware is the same, router position is the same, server is the same. All that has changed is the SB server version and linked player firmware. I've also tried the latest - 7.6.2 r9545 - and the same occurs. Any thoughts anyone? Can I provide any logging that might help? I moved to 7.6.2 and since then all has been very stable, including my wifi connected RADIOS. p.s. One can always "go back" to prior software and prior firmware. Just install the version you wanted, connect to players to the SbS once running and the firmware will be rolled back. Re: [SlimDevices: Radio] 7.6.1 r9482 has messed up my SB Radio
I have to agree with Cliff and Paularios - the Radio has gone from being an excellent unit to a rather annoying one over the course of the past year. I have three SqueezeDevices, and curiously, only the one obtained since Logitech moved onto the scene is by now a clunker - the Boom and the SB3 are rock solid. So I may not be able to see anyone's Facebook news feed on either of them, but my Radio is not a steady or dependable network player anymore and that's a real drag. I've done my share of Googling my particular issues; the wifi/wlan client is utterly stupid in terms of connecting/reconnecting e.g. after having shut the wireless down during the night, but I figure that at some point, the firmware team will find this out, too, and do something about it. And to all the truly helpful participants in various forums: I have tried your advice on wifi tweaks, to no avail. By now, I just won't bother - there are some ten other wireless devices in the house that never has problems connecting. The Radio at its' current state is a serious disappointment and, at least for the time being, I have put my enthusiastic recommendation of Logitech Squeezeboxes on hold. -- knutb knutb's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=34425 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=89900 ___ Radio mailing list Radio@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/radio
Re: [SlimDevices: Radio] 7.6.1 r9482 has messed up my SB Radio
The version 7.6.1r6482 is probably the worst ever made by Logitech for the Squeeze box. I don't understand why, in the world, those software engineers at Logitech were thinking they were doing, when they chose to mess up with version 7.6.0 that was working just fine and was stable. The Home Menu in V.7.6.1r6482 is practically empty; only 3 choices of action are available: "Help", "Restore Defaults" and "Restore Hidden Menu Items". Unlike in V.7.6.0, one cannot customize his/her own Home menu by selecting what features he/she want to have in the Home Menu. I don't want to remove this version and reinstall V.7.6.0 because I will lose all my customized favorites like I did when I uninstalled it a few months ago. I don't see the usefulness of any of the features in the "Volume Adjustment" menu, because none of them seems to bring any individual change to the audio, when selected. This is a bad software. I am extremely disappointed. -- Paularios Paularios's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=50652 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=89900 ___ Radio mailing list Radio@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/radio
Re: [SlimDevices: Radio] 7.6.1 r9482 has messed up my SB Radio
You can downgrade your player via SBS server to any previous version you wish. All previous SBS versions are here: http://downloads.slimdevices.com/ Install SBS, connect player to SBS, downgrade firmware, uninstall SBS (if not needed). But, if you downgrade the firmware and connect to MySB.com your player will be regularly prompted to update to the MySB version level. You can dismiss these prompts, but they do get annoying. -- toby10 toby10's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=12553 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=89900 ___ Radio mailing list Radio@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/radio
Re: [SlimDevices: Radio] 7.6.1 r9482 has messed up my SB Radio
Thanks to Joe and sepb for their feedback. Unfortunately I received (and installed) 2 updates, which were a few days apart. Both had these new problems, so I can't go back now - from what I understand. My main issue is that each update should improve the software, not degrade it seriously. So while I understand there is the option to go back a version, it really shouldn't be necessary. I guess I'll have to live with it for now and hope a new update comes along that fixes it all. If you get an update reqest just hold the back button until the request disappears. -- bitstopjoe Joe Sica bitstopjoe's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=45024 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=89900 ___ Radio mailing list Radio@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/radio
