Jim,
Clear your cache and try it. It is fine once the stuff is saved on your computer, but
it is the slowest site I ever access if the images are not saved. I pinged it and it
is not the connection or his ISP. I then analyzed his first page.
Each one of his tabs is 11,000 bytes and should be 1500
His simple gifs are all uncompressed and are 14k minimum each.
All Sal has to do is compress each gif and
re-save and post and it will fix the problem

No real competitors. A lot of guys are switching from the Logic this year. This is
very different. The poly IMHO is better than the VR (even though I have and sell
both). I have tried a lot of HLs and usually end up making my own wings for them or
modifying in some way. This is the first one I'm flying stock. Could not find a way
to improve it. Joe and Don did a good job with this one.

Avoid adding weight especially to the tail.
I use a Sanyo N-120TA four cell (it weighs less than the 110 and lasts longer). These
are size batteries. Puts the CG back a bit.
You can put the CG back as long as you are comfortable flying it that way.

Re: [RCSE] Re: YOUR EMAIL PROGRAM IS displaying HTML code - why?

2000-05-01 Thread Tom Broeski

Paul Clark pointed out that many re-send all of the previous copy. This can be a lot
of unnecessary information. I watched as several replied by sending everything that
was sent before. Mark Mech and Mark Wolfe edited and cleaned up the email before
sending it on. While a couple others did not. The point is well taken that lists are
different than normal business email. I can imagine what it would be like, if you did
not have a mega computer, to miss a day or two and then find hundreds of emails.

In my daily work I MUST use html to send the majority of my communications. I send
attachments and post images in the body of my emails and numerous links that would be
a pain for people to have to cut and paste to view. I do understand the point of
lists needing to be different. Mr. Darnel has been doing a pretty good job of
policing this -- which actually takes a considerable amount of time. He asked for
comments, so I made a bit of a flippant remark. The replies were mostly to the point
and clearly stated. It is good to be reminded once in awhile.

[RCSE] LSF contest requirements

2000-03-03 Thread Tom Broeski

It is very difficult for many to do the contest requirements for LSF. There are only
ten members in our club. What would you all say if the requirement for LSF III was to
have 6 contests or one perfect flight of 10 minutes and a perfect 100 landing? LSF IV
would require 2 perfect scores. LSF V 3 perfect scores instead of 6 contests and 3
wins. It would seem as difficult and require as much air time or more and open the
field to those that are unable (either financially or otherwise) to attend all the
required contests, but have the needed flying skills. It has gotten to the point
where it is almost impossible for even the best fliers to find enough contests meeting
the minimum participation. Meeting the contest requirements has imposed a severe
financial burden on many fliers that was not there when the rules were first
established. Times have changed since the rules were first created, and even the ESL
has had a drop in participation.

Opinions are very welcome, before going through the long task of trying to amend the
requirements.

Re: [RCSE] Yet another charger question...

I use a simple Multiplex Pico charger for all my receiver batteries and electric
planes. 4,6,7,8 cells. It works great and is only $30. Karlton uses the same
charger for all his planes. It adjusts from 1 to 4 amps.

Re: [RCSE] Re: Alternative Servos

2000-02-27 Thread Tom Broeski

If everyone looked in their "old servos" box and listed what they have, it might make
the point. I looked and have 80's 81's, locked up 255's, Dads, several different CS
servos, an assortment of Airtronics servos (4 141's that won't center right, some
151's I just put new gears in and they are fine now, a couple 131's and some standard
servos) and two Volz wing max (broken shafts) and I had some Critter Bit servos until
Karlton said to send them to him. I have sent several Hitec servos in and they were
replaced at no charge. Now... the last two years (and with some major crashes
included) I have not had to replace one MPX servo. I used to go through 141's like
crazy. I have Micro 3 BB's and FL's and they just keep on ticking.

In the long run I could have been using the best mc/V2 servos and actually saved money.

Re: [RCSE] Importance of foam core cutting sequence (long)

2000-02-27 Thread Tom Broeski

The wire I use is from Omega Engineering in Stanford CT
203 359-1660
It is
PN: N180-010-50 FT
N180/CR20
I assume it is .010.
I use about 26 amps and cut at .4 in per second. I don't really know any of the
technical info. I tried the normal wire for the feather cut machine and it was way
too thick for me and had shrinkage near the templates. I cut everything by hand now
and find it much quicker.

Re: [RCSE] HELP! epoxy experts needed

2000-02-13 Thread Tom Broeski

Bruce,
Yes, one to one meant using a 5 to 1 pump. Since you went beyond the catalytic stage
with too much hardener, there is little you can do unless you can put it in an over or
hot box and 100+ degrees. This may work, but the results may not be satisfactory.
If it can still be dissolved with rubbing alcohol, you can carefully try and wipe it
off.
Use lots of alcohol soaked rags or paper towels and work slowly. The time it takes
may far exceed the cost of a new wing.
If not, in my opinion there is nothing you can do. I have tried, and it is a real
mess.

Re: [RCSE] winch battery

2000-01-13 Thread Tom Broeski

We use a Kmart 850 marine battery.
You can kill a battery by storing it partially charged between uses. Or leaving it on
a concrete floor.
If it is fully charged after each use, it should last 3 years.

Re: [RCSE] Bagging Help

1999-12-19 Thread Tom Broeski

You can use a little of the Freecote to get the specs off - or some automotive rubbing
compound. I did not have any luck with Freecote as a release on the mylars either. I
use "Yellow" paste wax from the auto store. I have had no trouble since. It is much
easier to use than the straight carnuba.

Re: [RCSE] Twinstar question..w/apologies

1999-12-16 Thread Tom Broeski

I thermal the twinstar all the time. Use alphaic resin (white glue) and coat the
inside of the fuse where you want the velcro to stick. Let it dry (acts like a
sealer). You can also use epoxy also. Remember, this is to seal the foam where you
want the velcro to stick, not a way to glue it in. Then stick the hook down. Use
half as much loop on the battery. (hard to remove otherwise). Mine holds just fine.

If you put the velcro on the side of the fuse instead of the bottom, it holds better
and you can slide a stick in to release the battery.

Re: [RCSE] FMA Razor - my opinion...Mark

1999-12-07 Thread Tom Broeski

Mark,
I forgot about that part. It was really dumb (or nasty) of Fred if he did actually
know. He started advertising months before he even had a product to sell. I don't
think it would hurt either party if one changed the name. I know Jerry came up with
the use of the name first, but Zagi is such a unique name I would like to see Joe or
Jerry call theirs the Zagi Super-R or something. I actually keep forgetting about it
and passed it over when I saw it wasn't a Zagi. None of the guys out here talk about
the Razor, just about the Zagi. Razor is too generic.

Bill,
There have been other flying wings - like the Mongo and Boomerang. I still think the
Zagis are the best. At first I was of the same mind as you, but after checking it
out, I just think it is another attempt to come up with something different. I
actually applaud the molding technique. They appear to be for fun flying and I will

You can always attack them in combat! It's like saying the Drifter is no good because
someone already designed a Gentle Lady. Without competition there would be no
improvement in the industry.

Re: [RCSE] World Records Listing

1999-09-21 Thread Tom Broeski

Anyone know what the rules are? I could not find them on the site. The 6396 feet
altitude might be a bit tough to beat. Does the pilot have to remain on the ground,
or can he take a chopper or a plane up? At least we hold two of the records in the
US. It appears there is no set record for anything but free flight and F3B, so type
of glider is not factored in. Where might I find the record for 2M that I supposedly
saw being set? Is the duration slope? Joe W went 140.62 miles for distance if my
calculations are correct. Where did he drive from/to? I would think the dynamic
soarers could approach 148.94 mph if the fixed course were on a slope and they had a
strong plane. What was the final guess on Daryl's 14 sec F3B speed?

I know I know... a lot of questions, but I'm very interested.

[RCSE] Re: Your web site

1999-09-13 Thread Tom Broeski

In your browser under "edit" "preferences" "appearance", "colors" is an option to
override colors. You can select "use my colors" when you want to print in black on
white.
Thanks for your input.

Re: [RCSE] What if question..

1999-09-10 Thread Tom Broeski

I'll try to be more clear next time.
The questions I will be asking will have nothing to do with the particular radio in
use, but rather with the affect and effect on a plane.
I knew that when I messed with the differential I had to change the rudder throw -- I
know now that it was to compensate for yaw.

Re: [RCSE] Setting up full house plane archive

1999-09-09 Thread Tom Broeski

I have also decided to set up an archive of set-ups for every plane possible.
If anyone, manufacturers and all, can mail , fax or email me a manual or the
recommended setups. I will post them (recommended set-ups only) in an archive on my
ftp site. I have the following:

Explorer
Gemini
Grand Esteem
Polaris
Monarchs, H/L's, 2m, elect, etc.
Logic
Spirit
Spectra
Psyko
Sisu 2m
Velvia
Victor
Victory
Vortex
V-Star
Vulcan
Winstar
Zagis

This will be a major undertaking since I must assume +- a thousand. They will be
indexed both A-Z and by type.

[RCSE] Setting up full house plane site

1999-09-09 Thread Tom Broeski

For those who can add or just want to follow the thread, I will post the info as it
comes in at:

http://www.adesigner.com/fullhouse.htm

It will be on going, so it won't look finished for some time.

Re: [RCSE] carbon tissue (short)+ (long)

1999-08-20 Thread Tom Broeski

My H/L wings weigh between 3.4 and 3.8 oz. It does take a bit of work to get just the
right amount of epoxy. I found the most important thing for a light weight wing is
protecting the LE. Most creases occur at the areas where the LE is nicked.

Check out the Wish-1 halfway down this page:
