Hi Kent I recently switched from Batteries America to cheapbatterypacks.com on the recommendation of a very active experienced(particularly in electrics!) club member-Lenny Keer whom I'm sure many of you know! I have only used them twice so far however, there service is excellent (even a custom pack only took 4 days), their prices low and their Gold Peak cells/batteries (at least the NiMH) are the best I have used so far particularly for sustained high power output! Batteries America (Mr. Nicad) here in Wisconsin had a fire about two months ago which totally destroyed the interior of the building and it's contents. They are about a mile from me and I drove by awhile back to look. I saw no signs of activity. Probably working out the insurance if there waqs any. I do not know what their plans are for the future. I've also had several very bad experiences with those people. Most recently, I called about a batch of batteries that weren't peaking to spec. I wasn't asking to send them back, I only called to let him know that he might want to check his stock. He replied with something very rude and hung up on me. If you're particular about batteries, I'd stay away from that place. - Steve

Neither of these sources are the cheapest, but they offer the best quality workmanship and customer service in my experience. 1) For TX and RX packs, talk to Steve Anthony, owner of NoBS Batteries. He is super helpful and will make up custom packs to your specs. They are very nice people and Steve will make up anything you want. The quality of his pack construction is excellent. If you're talking about a slow charger, the sort where it just puts C/10 or so into the battery, nothing bad will happen. Jack, The problem here is NiMH cells, nothing will happen to NiCd cells, in fact a NiMH charger is better for the NiCd cells than is a NiCd charger because it has a more sensitive overvoltage detect. All chargers except the Sirius charge line use Delta peak detection, in other words they all overcharge the cells to find a peak. OVERCHARGE is the number one killer of ALL batteries. The Sirius Charge line is the only PEAK PREDICTION charger on the market. It is the SAFEST there is for both NiCd and NiMH cells, PERIOD. What happened was that I was charging at 330mah, and over time, it was only taking one hour to charge them at this rate. Took the pack to the store and they confirmed capacity was 330 to 360mah by cycling them a few times. This is strange, the e flight guys that I know all charge their NiMh's at twice their rated capacity with an Astro 112D charger. I have done the same and had good results. I was referring to the Sanyo NiCad (not NiMH) 1100AAU's. These are special hi-capacity batteries. Spec sheet doesn't list a quick charge rate. I charge my 5 packs of Sanyo 1100 AAU's at 2 Amps with my ancient TRC Impuse peak charger. Never a warm cell, and they still rate good on the cycler. Had one pack lose capacity after 3 years of use. Okay, that's NiMH in planes. I'm using them in my Tx, which has digital and analog voltage readout, fairly safe, right? The other question is, how did you charge your NiMh batteries? Was it as good as the Sirius charger I'm using? I've used and charged my Radio Shack 1500 AA NiMH 'transmitter' batteries several times now, and its all A-ok on the Western Front, and counting. I promise to let the alias know if and when I have any perceptible problems whatsoever with these batteries. I guarantee these are going to get a LOT of use now and throughout the flying season. There is a reason, because the NiMH batt's will not last very long. Even had to replace two of the packs. It never got better, the life got shorter and the charging became more frequent.
