Re: sound forge 10 app for window eyes
Drew, There's no app for Sound Forge 10. The app I wrote is for Sound Forge 11. I check the Sound Forge version in the app and you should have gotten a notification that it wasn't compatible with an older version. But I just checked the code and it checks for version 9 or greater. The reason I did this is that it is possible to make it work with 9 or 10. But I forgot about it and didn't get around to adding all the extra code. Sorry about that. RE: sound forge
Tom, Well, I'll trade you oops's. The effect I used to perform expansion was the graphic pulldown in the Dynamics item, not the Wave Hammer, so you were right. It actually has a noise gate preset as well. One can think of a noise gate as very sharp expansion, so it isn't out of the realm of possibility that a noise gate could be adjusted if the parameters were exposed to the user. Anyway, in the Graphic Dynamic dialog, you can control compression so you can exercise some control over the graph. However, you cannot specify a compression ratio less than 1, which would cause expansion. Anyway, thanks for the tips. Re: sound forge
Steve, Yes, the Dynamics use graphs while the Noise gate is a simple expander. The I and O in and out points are just markers. You can do the same thing with markers you insert with M. For example, press M for the in point and again for the out point. Now Control-Shift-Left to select from the out to the in point. Space bar to preview. If either isn't quite right then move to it with Control-Left/Right and nudge it in either direction with Shift-Left/Right. Alternatively you can check the markers right after inserting them with Control-Shift-K which plays up to the marker. And after making your selection and previewing it you can also preview a cut without making it. Just hit Control-K. Or if all else fails toss this message into a pot of boiling water and voila! you've got spaghetti for dinner. Re: sound forge
Steve, I never use the graphic EQ. So I have no comment on that. But regarding the Wave Hammer? It has only a compressor and maximizer. For an expander go to Effects, Noise gate. I did not need to do this at all with older versions, though. Now that I think about it, though, possibly it remembers what I used last as I have just assumed I needed to click 10-band each time. I'll have to check that. Also, some Sound Forge effects like the Wave Hammer seem only to be adjustable with the graphical Envelop approach. One can control compression with a parameter, but I have not found a way to create an expansion effect except by using one of the presets. I am not aware of any of the other programs that allows one to control expansion with parameters, either, though. In the old days, I felt I could manage pretty much everything with Cool Edit which became Adobe Audition, and even through Audition 1.5, I managed pretty well. They changed their display method with version 2.0, though, and much of the display no longer read correctly. However, over time since then, they have exposed more data with MSAA or UIA, and I know there was a Window-Eyes app that that helped quite a bit. When I have tried their demos, though, I found gaps that I did not take the time to pursue, but it would be interesting to know if anyone has much experience with the latest versions of that product with Window-Eyes. Re: sound forge
Hey Rod, Sorry but I'm not aware of anything that will do what you're looking for. A normalizer is the trick. But I assume your cable box output is just looping through your soundcard and going right back out the output. There are all kinds of limiter/compressor/expander/normalizer boxes out there. But I'm only familiar with pro gear and wouldn't have a clue where to look for what you want. Perhaps a hi-fi shop or one of the monster stores that sell computers and home entertainment gear. Finally, you say you want to control the maximum volume output. This is the job of a limiter. But I'm guessing what you really want is a normalizer so that everything is about the same average (RMS) level. I'd probably start by asking Uncle Google. As I said, I assume your in and out is just looping through your soundcard rather than playing through any kind of media player. So unless there's some way of inserting a program into that loop finding an external hardware solution would be your only option. Good luck, Tom On 5/31/2016 10:43 AM, Rod Hutton wrote: Hi Tom, and perhaps others might have some insight as well, Have you heard of any kind of simple software or hardware solution to controlg the maximum output volume of the sound coming from a Windows speaker jack. I do have a volume normalizer Plug-in for Winamp, but this doesn't control other volumes which may come out of the PC speaker. Ideally, it would be great to be able to set a certain volume level and know for certain that my PC would never produce any sound louder than what I had set. I don't know if this would be of any help with 11, but in SF 7 (yes, still using it), I move to the end of what Forge believes to be selected with the End key and right Arrow one time. My sighted wife, who has no experience with this stuff, tells me it just looks as if nothing is selected, so what happens to the marker commands? Yes, being able to clear them would be a great start. -- Reg On Tue, 31 May 2016 10:05:24 -0500 Steve Jacobson via Talk wrote: > Tom, > > Other than my possibly irrelevant observation regarding choosing the > equalizer, I would agree with you. Tom, Other than my possibly irrelevant observation regarding choosing the equalizer, I would agree with you. Everything I used in Sound Forge 7 I am still able to use with Sound Forge 11. I do occasionally have trouble when selecting a segment, though, but I think this is likely due to something happening that I don't understand. I find that an end point from a previous selection seems to stick. Have you found a sure fire way to clear previous selection endpoints? RE: sound forge
Reg, I am interested in understanding the equalizer business better. Which version of Sound Forge are you using? I have noticed the equalizer issue with versions 10 and 11, although, as I have said, I am able to click the 10-band option and then it works as before.
Hi Tom, and perhaps others might have some insight as well, Have you heard of any kind of simple software or hardware solution to controlg the maximum output volume of the sound coming from a Windows speaker jack. I have my cable TV box plugged into my PC line-in jack, and I play music with often very different track volumes. I do have a volume normalizer Plug-in for Winamp, but this doesn't control other volumes which may come out of the PC speaker. Ideally, it would be great to be able to set a certain volume level and know for certain that my PC would never produce any sound louder than what I had set. Re: sound forge
Hi all Yes Curtis, I have Soundforge Pro 11.0, and it works pretty well. You can access the alternative equalisers via the Process menu, and only occasionally do I have to alter the presets provided. As has been said, the noise reduction tool is very useful, and the ability to capture a noise print for specific situations is quite easy, and fairly effective before the original signal starts to sound phasey if you apply reduction too many times. -- Reg On Tue, 31 May 2016 00:35:21 -0700 Curtis Delzer via Talk wrote: > Sound forge 8 is still the most accessible, though the later versions > can be used. > -- > Curtis Delzer > > On Mon, 30 May 2016 17:01:21 -0400 > William Vandervest via Talk wrote: > > > can someone please tell me how accessible sound forge is and if there are > > any compatibility issues with w e? > > thanks > > > > > > > > timelor...@comcast.net > > > > There Are None So Blind As Those Who Will Not See > > > > William and Leader Dog Lynerd > > ___ > > Any views or opinions presented in this email are solely those of the > > author and do not necessarily represent those of Ai Squared. > > > > For membership options, visit > > http://lists.window-eyes.com/options.cgi/talk-window-eyes.com/curtis1014%40verizon.net. > > For subscription options, visit > > http://lists.window-eyes.com/listinfo.cgi/talk-window-eyes.com > > List archives can be found at > > http://lists.window-eyes.com/private.cgi/talk-window-eyes.com > > ___ > Any views or opinions presented in this email are solely those of the author > and do not necessarily represent those of Ai Squared. > > For membership options, visit > http://lists.window-eyes.com/options.cgi/talk-window-eyes.com/regwebb%40btinternet.com. > For subscription options, visit > http://lists.window-eyes.com/listinfo.cgi/talk-window-eyes.com > List archives can be found at > http://lists.window-eyes.com/private.cgi/talk-window-eyes.com ___ Any views or opinions presented in this email are solely those of the author and do not necessarily represent those of Ai Squared. I agree with Lloyd Rassmussen's assessment. However, it is really hard to answer your question accurately without knowing more about why you are choosing Sound Forge. I use Sound Forge because I bought it a long time ago and got pretty used to some of the areas that are not that easy to use. I like its noise reduction tool and feel I can get the results I want more easily than I have managed with other programs. If you are just starting out, though, I'm not sure you would not find less frustration with Gold Wave or perhaps Audacity. I understand there is pretty good editing with Total Recorder as well. If you get the full version of Sound Forge rather than the studio version, you have to use the mouse pointer to choose the version of the equalizer you want to use once you have opened the dialog. Once you do that, choosing a multi-band option instead of an envelope format, it works as Lloyd describes. You can also get values for some of Sound Forge's controls by turning Speak All on, but you get a lot of extra chatter. I am sure there are likely other areas I find challenging that someone has found a way around, though. Still, since I am as used to Sound Forge as I am, I have not found it worth switching to anything else. Like many programs, it is not possible to flatly say it is accessible or it is not, it depends upon what features you use and also what your comfort level is using the mouse keys. Re: sound forge
I run SoundForge Audio Studio 10 under Windows 10 with WE 9.4. The mouse pointer needs to be used for some things, unless you spend some time setting up some windows. The equalizers and other effects, if you want to adjust them, will depend on having the mouse pointer in the right place at the right time. If, under Windows 10, you get the three-tone signal when Window-Eyes starts, W-E won't be able to read most of the data in the SoundForge window, because it was probably written with older display techniques. You get your readings back after you have restarted Window-Eyes and it has gotten started on the right foot. Nobody has written SET files for SoundForge in a very long time, and I'm sure it could be used more efficiently if one wrote SET files and scripts for it. But SoundForge is quite usable as it is.
