[OSM-talk-be] Track in OSM
For precision tracing in Flanders, it's best to use the AGIV ortofoto imagery. That's a lot better than Bing. Sadly, I haven't found a way to show it in iD yet. https://wiki.openstreetmap.org/wiki/NL:WikiProject_Belgium/Using_AGIV_Crab_data/AGIV_Website_as_Reference Next to that, there's also the Strava GPS overlay, which shows interpolated GPS tracks (many more than you can create, and on many different times of the day for optimal results): http://sk53-osm.blogspot.be/2014/10/strava-openstreetmap-gps-traces-quick.html https://wiki.openstreetmap.org/wiki/Strava But here it's the same story, I don't know how to show it in iD. Strava offers an iD example on their github page: http://strava.github.io/iD/, but you'd have to fill in the coordinates by hand to reach your right location. Since those additions, I never use my GPS to improve accuracy anymore. I just use it to remember where I went. Re: [OSM-talk-be] Track in OSM
Re: [OSM-talk-be] Track in OSM
Re: [OSM-talk] Status of Field Papers
Hello Arun! At Stamen we are aware that Field Papers has been down for a few days (at least the atlas generation part) and we're working on fixing it. We appreciate how important Field Papers is to the OSM community, and we welcome ideas about how to improve its stability and to find resources to support it. We'd be happy to work with the OSMF, HOT or any other organization to apply for funds for further improvements to Field Papers. We also would love to find ways for other developers and support staff to get involved in the maintenance and improvement of field papers. If you (or anyone) would like to help, please get in touch! We hope to get Field Papers back online very soon. Thanks for your patience, and we're sorry for any inconvenience! Re: [OSM-talk] State of the Map US 2015 in New York, NY, June 6-8
The following is just my opinion. Based on New York's bid proposal, the fact that it will be held at the UN and that it has an international character and not just a simple regional SotM, SotM US 2015 will definitely overshadow any of the 2 SotM 2015 bids which are Toronto and Venice. If the OSMF still decides to go with a separate conference, Toronto is too close to New York so Venice might be the more attractive option. But I would rather see New York as the SotM 2015 and Venice as the SotM EU 2015. So I think that the OSMF should cooperate with OSM US and declare the winning New York bid as the State of the Map 2015.
En inglés es más vago y dice: This node should be positioned as the last point before the splay at which it is still possible to make a smooth turn, es decir en el último punto en el aún se pueda salir del carril con un giro suave.

This might be your point of view but I would not consider it as common sense. It is obviously also my point of view. How many do we need, so that point of view becomes common sense? And if one does not consider the separate footways correct data and one feels it destroys valid routing (as in Kevin's example) it's easy to delete them without violating any OSM rule we all agree upon. Kevin's example merely shows that asking the wrong question results in useless answers. If you intend to go the direct line, crossing the street at an arbitrary point, it does not make sense to use a router in order to calculate a route on dedicated footways. Instead you should use the so-called off-road navigation mode of your GPS device, which only shows the direction. You are talking about asking the wrong question and in the same context you state if our tagging destroys your application, don't use it. And yes, that is exactly what you just have said. This footway tagging is in fact destroying information. It is not correct data as it misses information and it somehow removes information that was already there. So everyone who uses this tagging is deleting correct data. In OSM everyone is allowed to use any tag he/she likes as long as it does not conflict with any existing data nor invalidates or removes it. If you (for the avoidance of doubts: you=everyone who uses this tagging) used some new tag and not highway=footway, this all wouldn't be a problem. But you want it to show up in the renderers (tagging for the renderer) and some routers (tagging for the routers). So before you (in the meaning as given above) start pointing fingers at someone (disrespecting the work of others) you should first look into the mirror. ___ Talk-at mailing list Talk-at@openstreetmap.org https://lists.openstreetmap.org/listinfo/talk-at

[Talk-at] Objekte mit start_date/end_date
Hi! This might be your point of view but I would not consider it as common sense. This isn't any point of view, that's me summing up the discussion. Thanks, this is what I wanted to point out. My opinion differs because for me it is out of question that sidewalks belong into OSM with all physical properties attached. Nobody discussing here said it's good data but it doesn't belong to OSM but all the discussion is about whether it is correct data or data added correctly (in whatever posters sense of correct). Even worse: people don't say what they mean. Mapping sidewalks and crossings is correct, if they exist. It does not matter, if someone infers wrong conclusions because of their own wrong assumptions. The assumption, you could only cross streets at dedicated crossings is wrong in Austria. I just felt that more or less implying that opposing the mapping of sidewalks as parallel footways is close to vandalism (deleting correct data) is quite harsh and far fetched. It depends. If someone says some data should be deleted, this can indeed be considered as incitement to vandalism. And now the reasons for my point of view: I like the idea that OSM data can be used for all different purposes including wheelchair routing. Also, I fully support that projects who aim to do that should be enabled to directly use the OSM database, because it actually helps OSM in getting better. The alternative would be to fork the database and then it would be no help for OSM at all. So even though micromapping introduces features, which some people[1] are not interested in, it does not mean that people should be encouraged to delete them. Yours, Stefan [1] I assume, it is mostly people who see the world only through the front shield of their car. ___ Talk-at mailing list Talk-at@openstreetmap.org https://lists.openstreetmap.org/listinfo/talk-at

Somit müsste man unendlich viele Küstenlinien eintragen. -- Friedrich K. ZB. was bedeutet highway=primary;pedestrian? Also vielleicht boundary=construction, construction=administrative???
Because the WikiMapia's geo-located data is all built based on aerial imagery from Google Maps, the dataset (and any further derivations from it) may attract copyright as a derived work. This will depend on jurisdiction, and generally is an unclear area of copyright law, but the principle allows aerial photography companies to license (at great expense) the right to derive geo-data from their imagery. Although Google have not been known to sue for copyright violation in the courts over use of aerial imagery, their terms of service do include provisions regarding their rights over derived data. The approach taken by WikiMapia is in contrast with a more clean-room from scratch re-mapping approach as followed by the OpenStreetMap project O CC-By-NC-SA não permite uso comercial (NC=não comercial) ao contrario do OSM que permite todo o tipo de uso incluindo comercial.
