[Talk-transit] Bus/Tram/Metro paths export
Hello, after doing so much work onto bus/tram relations in my city Padova, I'd like now to extract some geographically exact paths of single routes from OSM database, possibly in SVG format, and use them on a Padova-PT website I am going to build soon. Most of you are probably familiar with http://78.46.81.38/public_transport.html , and I can already obtain sketches of the routes, but my aim is to obtain something with this output: http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/9/9b/Ligne_4.gif for just a single line like in the example, or also with more lines (selecting for example all evening lines, or all Sunday lines). In this case, for a simpler rendering of everything, the stops aside the way should be coupled together if they have the same name (as in OPNVKarte) and the corresponding dot should be part of the drawn route. I do not have extendend programming skills, therefore I don't know how to obtain it, can somebody help? Re: [Talk-transit] Bus/Tram/Metro paths export
Ciao Tiziano, I think I recently came across something which may be of interest to you - though I haven't yet tried it myself: http://svn.openstreetmap.org/applications/rendering/subway/ This script creates a network sketch (a crude form of the London tube map) from OSM data. To make it a tube map, you'd need to move points around using a vector graphics editor, the raw output seems to be much like the example you sent. Hope it helps Michael On 01/27/2011 11:31 AM, Tiziano D'Angelo wrote: Hello, after doing so much work onto bus/tram relations in my city Padova, I'd like now to extract some geographically exact paths of single routes from OSM database, possibly in SVG format, and use them on a Padova-PT website I am going to build soon. Re: [Talk-transit] NEW Proposed Feature
Following the call for a better proposal, Tiziano, Oscar and I have drafted up a simple proposal. It is based on how we have mapped the public transport networks in our cities (Padova, Ferrara and Milan), with some improvements that came up during this discussion. Our approach was to keep it simple, therefore we have deliberately not treated special cases. For now, we want to standardize the basics; once we have agreed on those, we can discuss special cases which might not be covered by the current proposal and draw up an amendment, to be decided separately. You can find the proposal at: http://wiki.openstreetmap.org/wiki/Proposed_features/Simplified_Public_Transport_Scheme Constructive feedback and suggestions are welcome and can be sent to the list or left on the proposal's discussion page. route_ref does not seem obsolete to me. True, if the relation is defined, it can be determined from that by routers. But as long as that hasn't happened, this is the information that a mapper can take not of in the field. Then afterwards, it can help to add the appropriate stops to the route relation (semi-automatically if somebody codes it). We have quite a few express buses here that only stop at some of the stops they pass by. And then there are the school and marketbuses which might not even get route relations because they only run once a day/week. Re: [OSM-talk-be] adressen invoeren
I've also been experimenting with house numbering. It's nicer if they also get renderd of course. If a building has 1 house number and no name, then it seems very appropriate to add it to the building. The only problem there is that they cannot be part of an 'interpolation' anymore then. But that's a minor issue. If 1 building has more house numbers, or if 1 building houses several named entities, it all becomes a lot less straightforward. I'm also working on Research Park Haasrode lately. There are 2 numbering schemes being used there, a bit like the 'kaainummers' in the harbour of Antwerp. At first I was adding those extra numbers as ref=, note=Research Park Haasrode, but I'm not happy with that solution. The only thing it has going for it, is that all the information stays nicely together. So now I'm creating the normal house numbers in parallel to the extended ones: addr:housenumber= addr:street=Research Park Haasrode Since those numbers are in reference to the entire zone. So now both numbering schemes are getting rendered, which makes it easier to spot which ones are already done. For editing (particularly for new users) it is easier to select which one to edit (particularly in potlatch) and not try to select the correct one using the appropriate keyboard shortcut which is not immediately apparent. Me, I think ease of editing should rate pretty low compared to quality of rendering or correctness. Incidentally, I have just checked in a new feature to Potlatch which will make it very easy to create colinear ways. Not sure when/if it will appear in the public version. So your mapping for the renderer. Have a look at this: http://www.openstreetmap.org/?lat=-34.82843lon=138.68718zoom=16layers=M Does the boundary appear in the middle of the road on Montague Road. Is it colinear or close nodes, without looking at in an editor? If you look in an editor such as josm you will see that its two separate ways with the nodes on the boundary varying between 1 and 3 metres away from the road nodes. You don't need to make the ways colinear for it to appear so on the rendered map. If they are parallel with the nodes within a metre of each other then it will appear colinear on the map. If they were put side by side ie like this =:= less than a metre apart there is no difference to rendering but you then have an easy means to select either way in any editor and the easier it is to add something, or modify something then more people will do so. Need to move the ways because the coastline has changed, then select both nodes and drag them to the new position. So if someone maps something that they think will look good in the renderer but is not what's actually there then it's incorrect. Generally it's unlikely that the coastline will actually change but other things do. Problem is though as you've pointed out above when someone joins a river to the coastline have they got the correct way. If they are parallel then it's easy to choose if they are colinear then it's a dogs breakfast. So don't make admin boundaries represent anything else and don't join anything to admin boundaries. If you think the admin boundary is along a road or river or railway but you're not sure don't put it in. If it's along a road, railway, river and you can confirm it copy the admin boundary and paste it beside itself then retag for what you want it to be. What about when coastlines haven't changed, but when the ABS2006 boundary drifts from the coastline? The answer here, is we don't know whether they intended to follow the coastline and the coastline data they had was just inaccurate, or whether they intended to mark a different boundary, or whether they had no intention, because they just didn't cast their minds to the issue at all. Our chances of getting an official position on this is close to zero, IMO. However, if somebody has an accurate survey of (to drag the conversation back to it's Subject), say the Victorian Coastline, why aren't they drawing/updating the thing they have surveyed. Who cares if it happens to follow another line on the map? This is not a comparison of like with like. They are - the coastline is being constantly updated as better imagery and surveys become available. The real problem is: How to explain this clearly and simply to people who don't read/understand/follow this argument? This is because you are regarding the ABS2006 import as representative of nothing but the boundary of the ABS2006 statistical zones. Then when we discuss admin boundaries and coastline, you say we are not comparing like with like. However, the ABS2006 import has been used all over Australia for administrative boundaries. It is these admin boundaries that we are talking about here, directly derived from the statistical boundaries, but not necessarily equivalent to them. You may have an entirely valid argument to say that ABS2006 should never have been imported to represent anything but the ABS2006 statistical boundaries - but the reality is that is not what has happened. I don't care about statistical boundaries, I care about the suburb and town administrative boundaries. We should adjust these to the coastline. We should then remove the source for the admin boundary as ABS2006, with the admin boundary then derived from the coastline. An accurate coastline survey/trace is at least as good as any other source we have for the admin boundary in this case. I am wondering how to tag the areas of apparent landslide (assuming that might be useful information). Any suggestion ? Many thanks to Spot Image / Astrium Geo-Information Services, and to Jeff.

Re: [Talk-it] Fwd: State of the Map Europe - Italian
