[OSM-talk] Android routing application - With some level of OFFLINE address search
I have taken a look at ZaNavi OSMAND etc., on android. Most of these in offline mode offer only POI search. If I want to search for an address(need not be house numbers) and enter a road name, it usually does not work. If I zoom out a zoom level 9 but want to download level 14 jpg of a pre selected area, I am unable to do so easily. [OSM-talk] How to map mountain pass in Poltach 2
Hi I was looking at some roads in the himalayas which pass through high mountain passes(marked by signboard). I want to select a point or node on the road, and then mark it as mountain pass. In the left menu which opens, there is no such option. How to do that? Do I select two points and then mark the road between two points or something. [OSM-talk] alternative to navit on windows CE
I was looking at an OSM routing application(offline routing) like navit. Tried navit, but its not stable, does not even start on my windows CE device, and support forum is inactive. I was wondering if there are other apps which can do offline navigation with OSM data just like navit claims to do? I was using Oziexplorer CE and intend to use that for offroad applications, but for in city navigation, esp when I travel abroad, I want something which can allow me to 1. Create tracklogs 2. Navigate along a GPS track(saved from google earth and then edited in viking or something) 3. Navigate to a POI I did try Navit on my android, but it has only address navigation option. Navigate to POI is not there. There are lots of websites onlike like gpsvisualizer and utrack where you can load a gpx, and it will tell you track length. I want something with a little more features. Something like. I load the GPX on a background openstreetmap etc., map Then I click on a certain point in gpx, and then I click on another point in gpx. Then with a click I can bring up the states for that track segment, such as track length, elevation/speed profiles etc., Currently, I have to edit the track to just have track between 2 points, and then load it onto such websites. Just some junk data imported. Its such a big mess, and often I have to do bulk deletes in remove areas. Infact sometimes I refrain, because I cannot tell the actual good data from junk data due to poor quality of satellite imagery. I have a set of lat lon coordinates. On maps.google.com, I just enter that in the search field and click go, and it shows me that. however, no such feature in OSM. Of course I can edit the URL to point to lat/lon, but copy pasting a set of coordinates is much easlier. anyway to do that in OSM? Different OSM tags are assigned different Garmin line types by the style rules. So you can control how your tracks appear by selecting the specific Garmin line type that is assigned to them. Hi, I am aware that I can download .osm file for a certain region and then create gmapsupp.img for my garmin receiver. I was wondering if I can do the following 1. Download .osm file for a region 2. Open it in some GUI tool 3. Add a few tracks and waypoints 4. Re-save the OSM data, with the tracks now saved as roads or whatever as part of my .osm data 5. Create garmin map This will enable me to have custom tracks for region where there are no maps. It's more complicated than osmosis + JOSM + .osm file, but you'll need that if the area is very big, you have to make lots of changes, or let lots of people make changes. Also, please be aware of the nature of OSM's license. If you add data to to a file or database with OSM data in it, that new data inherits OSM's license. [OSM-talk] Google Earth equivalent for Openstreetmap
Sometimes when I have to plan a route, I can simple open the city in google-earth, and then draw a path, and save it as kml, and then convert it to the format my GPS understands. So In GPS I just have to load the track and follow it. Is there a similar software in openstreetmap which downloads openstreetmap data, allows me to create a track based on that. [Talk-in] When the primary road is a dirt track
I was looking at the Manali Leh highway, which is a national highway. Due to terrain, much of this road is mostly broken, with some parts a dirt track. Ditto for the Manali Kaza highway. The problem is that due to its condition(probably) it was tagged as a minor road, and does not show at zoom out. Hi, I saw that in OSM the names of cities at lower zoom levels appear in some local language(I think its hindi). Only on zooming in english name is visible. Is there a way to turn of this stuff and see only English names. Infact non hindi areas also show up in hindi. Some language nazi at work here? I have been stuck at same location without moving an inch for 15 minutes on occaisons. Yes we have traffic jams so bad. I guess why New Delhi area is such a mess when it comes to GPS tracks. [OSM-talk] Any oziexplorer CE users in here? Help required
Hi, I am currently trying out oziexplorer on my my c320 It loads up fine, runs fine, but there is a slight problem. It does not load up the maps automatically. I basically use taho.pl to download multiple map and png files, after which I use the img2oxzf3 script to convert the date into the format the oziexplorerCE can understand. After that I copy the maps to the maps folder in oziexplorer installation. After that I fire up oziexplorer, and get gps fix, but even in moving map mode it does not pick up the required map. I have to manually load the map file for the said area, and its a tad big annoying. from the oziexplorer docs it should be automatically be picking up the required map file as I move across the regions. Anybody got around to that? If anybody among you is successful in doing so, please let me know the steps. I don't own oziexplorer, and am not planning to buy the PC version, but only the Windows CE version. So if your steps involve just stuff like taho,pl and img2ozfx3 script etc., it will be great! I am getting a garmin in car unit($200) Needless to day the following two functionalities are needed 1. Read OSM maps(all nuvi can read from SD card) 2. Write gpx data with altitude and timestamp info The second point has gotten me stumped a bit, and I am torn between 3 models 205, 260 and 265T. the 205 is the cheapest, and apparently some sites say I cannot dump GPX tracks to SD card. Is it true? Moreover I want to know if there is an auto option for dumping tracks. I don't want it to dump tracks every second or so(which causes points to be dumped even when stationary). Are there any users here of the 205? What is the longest log you have dumped? I do a lot of mountain roads through foliage, will the nuvi 205 have problem getting signal in trees and all, if so what else should I be looking at. The budget - Lower the better! So you can get gpx data from tainted sources and still have timestamps. So all this is doing is stopping people with older gps systems to upload tracks to the database. [OSM-talk] gpx tool advice needed
Hi, I have a lowrance GPS. This has the option of dumping data to SD card. What it will do is dump all the trails to SD card under 1 file filename.usr Then I use GPS Babel to convert usr to gpx. But this gpx is huge. Is there a way to extract just one trail out of this gpx data and keep the timestamps intact All trails have different names, and when I convert to kml I can see the tracks individually. Is there a way where I can do 1. Big .usr file to big .gpx file 2. India is primarily Garmin country too in dedicated GPS(Destinator 7), but with mobile phone related GPS coming up, and other PDA based GPS systems coming up, there is increased demand for Route66 and IGo. In dedicated GPS systems Blaupunkt is making big inroads, as their pricing is good, and they have a tie up with the german manufactures, and the other common GPS system used is Magellan. Infact, I found a lot of Magellan in California. As for me personally, I have a lowrance(lcm maps), but converting garmin format to lowrance is not really a big problem, so I do fine. Magellan guys have the toughest job, first you convert to polish format, then shapefile and them magellen img I can probably talk to other on the talk-in list, and get a clear cut idea about what else is common apart from garmin. I am a recent user of openstreetmap, and map the Delhi, India area. I was going through the data, and the wiki, and it seems that if you have a garmin GPS, OSM data is useful, as cloudmade and others provide img files, and you can create your own , however if you have other software like igo/route66/magellen etc., its an uphill task.
