Re: Next Beta Series Request
Hello Peter I also think it might interesting for Ritlabs from a business POW. I don't believe any organisation with an installed Outlook client base and Exchange server would ever look at The Bat! as an enterprise e-mail client. Where is the track record? Where is the support model? The Bat is a niche market product for those people who want an e-mail client to do more (in some areas). If Ritlabs want to produce an Outlook replacement for their clients, then I would wholeheartedly support this, as I too have to run Outlook and TB in parallel. It is essentially a simple request/response situation. You're speaking of folders and I'm speaking of Accounts. :) I agree about the folder query. I'm referring to multiple server connects for an account. You could be making multiple requests for a single account. Different connections can then deal with these requests. Currently, TB! seems to use two connections at a time, no matter the number of requests. This is very evident at work where I have a slow connection and can clearly see what's happening in the CC. I'd start TB! and a lot of requests for folder counts come up. This is peppered with requests for folder header updates. I then open a folder and select a message. This stuck in the queue and has to wait its turn. I have 6 connections to the server. Two are in use, and yet the message body request has to wait its turn. This shouldn't be. At home here, things happen so fast, I can't see what's happening in the CC. Even though the same queueing problem may exist, the connection speed just overwhelms and masks the basic problem. -- -= Allie Martin =- The Bat! v3.5 System Specs: http://www.landscreek.net/sysspecs.htm -=-=- Famous last words - Jesus Christ: Father, beam me up. You put a lot of trust in such a service. More power to you. I store my own mail on my personal machine and back it up regularly. Additionally, the occasional problem with my personal server is less frequent as problems I have with other online services. It's far more reliable than you may realize. As I've said before, my only regret with all this is fearing the reliability issues and not actually doing it earlier. I just connect to my Gmail account and download the latest mail. My connection speed issues from work exist no matter which IMAP server I may connect to. 256Kbps from home is more than adequate. It's just that I don't get that from my office LAN out to the Internet and to my machine at home. I don't see how I am jumping through any special hoops. After just 30 minutes memory usage is Mem Usage: 36,500K Peak Mem Usage: 42,800K VM Size: 29,500K Minimising TB then restoring it knocks back the memory usage to around 12Mb. -- Regards, Clive Taylor Current beta is (none) | 'Using TBBETA' information: http://www.silverstones.com/thebat/TBUDLInfo.html IMPORTANT: To register as a Beta tester, use this link first - http://www.ritlabs.com/en/partners/testers/

Re[2]: IMAP in 3.5
Hi, behaviour of IMAP with v3.5 as compared to v3.01? AM I've been experiencing much better here. Here it's worse then ever before. With v3.01, the connection would block at the start and resume after a few minutes of thinking (not transfering anything as evident from a line monitor). Now, I can have ten connections sitting there and not starting at all. Right now e.g. we have 15 minutes and counting. (Addendum: We are now at 20 minutes and counting.) Usually two tasks indicate the same connection number. Doesn't that sound hopfully. But of course, it's not that bad after all. The new interface is slower, yes, it crashes more often with and without one or more messages (we truly have every flavour here!), but then we can now look at the error messages in our own colouring theme. Isn't that something to celebrate. Well, at least when TheBat doesn't just quit in the blink of an eye without any warning. But this only happens about every five minutes or so, therefore - what the heck. That's of course a whole lot better than v3.01. Honest. Cheers on RITs newest accomplishment. AM I'm using 2 connections here just fine. I've noted that if I use 4 or 6, AM only 2 connections are being used at a time anyway. So I use 2 and still AM have the same performance. I'm currently trying all ten connections in the hope that the more connections are specified, the sooner one of them will occasionally unblock. At the start it seemed as though this was correct as something started loading almost from the beginning. However, after this was done (whatever it was) on four connections, they quit and let the other six back in the dust like usual. The finished connections were not reused. AM Our experiences differ. It's not that we're using the program to AM do anything other than read/filter our mail and reply etc. as needed. That's my point exactly. How can you do this? It is just what I would like to do, could do with some hinderance in v3.01, and almost can do no longer with v3.5. It's a lot of progress the other way for me. AM Note that I can't duplicate this experience at work where I have a AM slower connection. I get frequent server disconnects. I don't get disconnects, I just get nothing. Tasks are started but are completed in a time frame of hours instead of seconds. Call me hard to please but I am not amused at this behaviour. Hey! TheBat finished checking! Timecount: 25 minutes to check a dozen folders with (altogether) about one hundered old and no new mails. Congratulations! Must have been very hard work! (I don't need to add that though all tasks have aparently been completed, still the Connection Center has not closed, do I?) -- MfG, Altomailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] pgpIdVoYdYEyT.pgp Description: PGP signature Current beta is (none) | 'Using TBBETA' information: http://www.silverstones.com/thebat/TBUDLInfo.html IMPORTANT: To register as a Beta tester, use this link first - http://www.ritlabs.com/en/partners/testers/

TB I just reply, choose the list address as provided which I presume is taken TB from the post I'm replying to and that's it. TB This post should be OK, I'm sending it with The Bat. Yes this one is OK. What Allie was referring to is the header In-Reply-To: and References you see when pushing F9 while viewing a message. I'm not sure if you can see the headers in Mulberry or not. I don't think it actually has anything to do with the address you send it to. I am guessing here but I believe the way it works is that when you send a message it is given a message ID or mid that is created specifically for that message. It is in the form of an email address (sort of) that might look like [EMAIL PROTECTED] . When you reply to a message a header is created called: In-Reply-To: [EMAIL PROTECTED] and another one called: References: [EMAIL PROTECTED] I assume each email client uses a different formula to come up with these mids, but I really don't know. I think the experts on the list could expound. When someone replies to your reply the Reference header will look like the following: References: [EMAIL PROTECTED] [EMAIL PROTECTED] and after several replies back and forth like this: References: [EMAIL PROTECTED] [EMAIL PROTECTED] [EMAIL PROTECTED] [EMAIL PROTECTED] [EMAIL PROTECTED] It is these headers that are used when you select thread by Reference. Now for your problem. Your copy of Mulberry, not Allie's, seems to not enclose your mid in . In other words your message has References that look like this. References: [EMAIL PROTECTED] [EMAIL PROTECTED] [EMAIL PROTECTED] [EMAIL PROTECTED] [EMAIL PROTECTED] That small difference seems to make your messages not thread correctly. Again in The Bat! use F9 to view the headers and this info for the message you are viewing. -- Stuartmailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] Using The Bat! v3.5 on Windows 98 4.10 Build A Current beta is (none) | 'Using TBBETA' information: http://www.silverstones.com/thebat/TBUDLInfo.html IMPORTANT: To register as a Beta tester, use this link first - http://www.ritlabs.com/en/partners/testers/

English returned Account specials while in German the page returned Konto-Sondereinstellungen. In version 3.5 final the return is For folder Popup in both languages. It is also the same for indices other than 3. Was it necessary to change these and is this supposed to stay this way, or is it just the translation lagging behind? I use it constantly for various things. 1. Certain people in my organization tend to forget things so I have my replies to them get copied into the folder with their message. At work, eveyone gets filtered into a folder (A-Z) by their first name, so all the Seans go in with the Senidas, Sams, Sarahs etc. So when I want to just limit my view to the Sams to show message threads when they forgot something I just Alt-Click Sam's name and all I'm left with is our conversations. 2. I get a lot of newsletters from various places. Sometimes I never get a chance to read them for a few weeks (some are daily newsletters), so I Alt-Click the name of the newsletter, highlight them all and press delete. It makes for a very quick way to get rid of messages from the inbox. 3. I am subscribed to multiple mailing lists, and the same thing happens where I don't get to read anything for a week, so I Alt-Click the first unread message in the folder, highlight them all, and then mark as read. Re: TB! Memory Consumption
Hi Allie TB! has been running for about 14 hours or so: thebat.exe Mem Usage: 83,372K Peak Mem Usage: 95,692 VM Size: 76,108K Upon exiting and restarting, Mem Usage is 27,135K Anyone else seeing the sort of Mem Usage growth that I'm seeing here? I'm using no plug-ins at all but am using IMAP, of course. Welcome to *my* world! The memory thing has always been a bugaboo of mine for all of v3, but I was once told it takes what it takes and I adopted the attitude Oh well... After coming out of hibernation and having about 12 hours on this boot cycle, I'm at 40 MB with AVG and BayesIt! and 8 accounts going, one of which is IMAP and all use only Micro-Ed (hurrah!) This 40 MB will grown eventually to maybe 80MB and will flucutate. Don't think we have a mem leak here, but just a feature. I would expect this with an application or database server, but not an email client. Allie, You'respeakingoffoldersandI'mspeakingofAccounts.:) Also about a new message check where there are no new messages. Why is it that a dead query blocks everything behind it? I know I see it sometimes too. I delete the dead query from the Connection Center, and then the rest complete. Using the simple example I gave, a new message check with no new messages, I can see a difference in the time. So I think using more connections helps. Athomehere, thingshappensofast,Ican'tseewhat'shappeninginthe CC.Eventhoughthesamequeueingproblemmayexist, theconnection speedjustoverwhelmsandmasksthebasicproblem. I think part of it has to do with the capability of high speed connections. When downloading a set of files from a slow server, I have had as many as 10 files downloading all at once with no problem. Dialup is limited in speed, but also in bandwidth. So you can't have a lot of things going on at once. v3.5 crashes
Hi, The new interface is slower, yes, it crashes more often with and without one or more messages (we truly have every flavour here!) MM what crashes You are talking about? Not all are that easy to pinpoint: 1.) We already talked about the (single) AV when save view mode - yes after modification of columns and a folder change. This, as I already described, can grow into a cascading Division by zero. 2.) Today I pressed get mail, saw the CC starting and turned away. When I looked back (a few seconds later), TheBat was completly gone, no CC nor main program, not even an error message. 3.) On experimenting with the IMAP fine-tune parameters I pressed get mail, saw that it was getting me nowhere and pressed abort all tasks a little later. Then I went back, modified the IMAP settings and tried again. At the second abort there was an AV, but TheBat was still there (CC wasn't). I continued, and with the next abort an AV apeared, this time taking TheBat with it. If it's of constructive interest to you or anyone else I'll start logging the different crashes I see in the future. -- MfG, Altomailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] pgppgLQUlB8JY.pgp Description: PGP signature Current beta is (none) | 'Using TBBETA' information: http://www.silverstones.com/thebat/TBUDLInfo.html IMPORTANT: To register as a Beta tester, use this link first - http://www.ritlabs.com/en/partners/testers/

Hi, MT sarcastic attacks on TB! snipped You can hardly fault me for it, can you? I do think I tried everything else. MT I cannot confirm any of your issues. It seems to me that I'm using a whole different program than you are. The performance I'm experiencing is loads different from what you all are talking about. Where you are positivly content (meaning not really enthusiastic, but basicly satisfied) and seeing no major bugs, none that prohibit work in any case, I plainly can't use v3.5. It is so terrible I did not dare to put it ony main machine instead of my test machine yet. v3.01 had its bugs, but they were mainly stable bugs. In v3.5 not even the bugs themselves are stable. Yet, I had tried the beta (number 20 it was, I believe) on more than one machine and it showed most bugs even then, so it should be neither a problem with my single machine nor with the download. I also don't imagine that I'm the only one using a ISDN connection and there are other GMX-users as well. I simply don't see any viable difference between my system and yours, which makes it very hard for me to concede that there may be working installations of v3.5, even if you can report such. -- MfG, Altomailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] pgp1LpY1xQpUt.pgp Description: PGP signature Current beta is (none) | 'Using TBBETA' information: http://www.silverstones.com/thebat/TBUDLInfo.html IMPORTANT: To register as a Beta tester, use this link first - http://www.ritlabs.com/en/partners/testers/

Hello Clive, I've found that if you click your mouse while holding alt the message gets filtered (or rather all other messages are hidden). Hitting esc brings them all back. I don't see the point of this as it stands. It is a very useful feature of TB. You can very quickly filter on almost any of the columns you are displaying. So you can filter by Subject From, To, Read/Unread, Flagged/Un-flagged, Keep, With/Without attachments, on Received or Created date or time (if today), etc. Certainly very useful and quick. Re[2]: Icon problem with v3.5 - transparency gone?
Hello Mary, 9Val contacted me personally. This is great. We are going to fix this not before Monday. ;) We have to start a public collection to erect a monument to 9Val and other RIT guys ;-) MB Confirmed. ;) MB A more responsive group cannot be imagined! And for those who do not want to wait for the fix, a work-around proposed by Fredrik Bergström on TBUDL, and that worked for me too: lower the hardware acceleration in Display Properties / Advanced / Troubleshoot one step and the black disappears. But that is still a work-around, and I still wait for a fix from Ritlabs. And then, I will have a lovely e-mail client ! -- / _.'\ \Julien RANC / _.'\ \ /_.-'\___\ |\_\ `` .- \ _/| | _\___. | | / \ | |/\| |__| Using The Bat! 3.5 s/n 9360592E Current beta is (none) | 'Using TBBETA' information: http://www.silverstones.com/thebat/TBUDLInfo.html IMPORTANT: To register as a Beta tester, use this link first - http://www.ritlabs.com/en/partners/testers/
