Mail collection with 3.5.35

2005-07-01 Thread Xav
Hello tbbeta,

I have a mail server collecting mail for three accounts, which I then
collect via POP3into the Bat.

In 3.5.30, clicking on the Getmail icon collected from just the active
account. I used the drop down menu for Get Mail for All.

In 3.5.35, the Getmail icon appears to collect for all accounts.
However, in collecting in either way (icon or menu) I find that one
account continually hangs on collection, eventually giving a
collection failed error message. I went back to 3.5.30 and this
error does not occur.

Okay, but here's a little yes, but - that's but with one t in
case anyone's counting. The CC still does not interface correctly with
the system hotkeys. Everything that was reported back in 3.5.xx, oh
way back yonder, is still the case. After assigning a system hotkey to
check all accounts and invoking that system hotkey, the CC opens in
the background. And after assigning a system hotkey to check current

background and (at least for me on all of the computers I have tested
this with) also checks all accounts rather than just the current

Editor Toolbar will not go back where I put it

2005-07-01 Thread Allie Martin
Hi all,

Some time ago, I removed my editor toolbar from view to see how I'd get
on.

Now that I've discovered the minimalist glyph set for TB!, I've been
using it with 16x16 sizes. I rather like the spartan look of them and
the way they take well to a small size.

I re-enabled the editor toolbar and it appeared *beside* the main menu
toolbar.

I adjusted the toolbar's position to its rightful place underneath the
main menu toolbar.

However, each time I restart the editor, the main toolbar is again
beside the main menu!

It looks like the editor isn't remembering any settings except the
window size.

Ok. I'll check that out, both at home and here at work.

I'm not able to reproduce the problem here at work.

Steps taken to attempt reproducing:

- I removed the editors main toolbar (standard).

- I exited TB! and restarted.

- I restarted the editor to see the standard toolbar not there.

- I re-enable the standard toolbar and it appears below the main menu
bar.

- I exit and restart the editor. The positions remain the same.

However, this is what happened with my home installation:

- I removed the standard toolbar.

- I used TB! for a while, i.e., about a week.

- I then re-enabled the standard toolbar.

- It appears to the right of, and not below the main menu bar.

- I change the position so that it's below the main menu bar.

- On exiting and restarting the editor, the standard toolbar is again
beside the main menu bar. It's as if it's stuck in that position.

Yeah, it's the only complaint I have about Gmail right now. They
really should let you see your own posts.

Leif and Vili, that's not entirely accurate. You can read/see your own
posts (on the Web interface). You just don't get them back from the
mailing list in your inbox. If the message does not go through, you
will be notified of that, but you will not be notified if your message
is not posted on a fully moderated list where the mods must approve
each message before it goes to the list.

While I also don't like Gmail's behavior in this respect, I don't find
any problem with the behavior so far as the tbbeta list is concerned.
If you are sending from TB using the Gmail SMTP server and you need to
have a copy of what you send in some local tbbeta directory (in
addition to what is store in your Web-based Gmail account), then just
create an Outgoing Mail filter that copies messages sent to the tbbeta
list to your tbbeta directory.

I guess that you do know the (only somewhat satisfactory) work-around
for that.

Do you happen to know whether a feature request to be able to edit the
incoming message is on BT Wish List? (Not that there's much hope of it
being implemented there, even as a User option, not the default.)

Please don't tell me I should adopt OTFE to deal with this problem.
Especially if you are among those having so much trouble with it.

You know, just thinking it over. I think as a temporary solution, what
I would do, faced with your problem, is to copy the entire message
with the password in it to a new message to myself. Then I would use
PGP to encrypt it (using my editor Privacy menu) and send it off. When
I received the encrypted message, I would make a new folder for it and
store it there.

Then I'd delete the old, original message. Yes, I would, even if that
destroyed the record that it had been sent and received.

I don't want to delete it, I want to remove the password. It says
right at the top of the message that it is the instructions for the
list, you should keep it for future reference, etc. Once in a while,
one does want to go back and refer to the information they send. They
don't resend each month like the TB! lists.

And I don't want OTFE no matter how well it works.

:) ... another reason in which I use editing new email is that I am on a
lot of technical lists, and many people refuse, or because of a lack of
knowledge, trim their emails. This many times goes several replies deep,
making 100s of lines of useless redundant information. Since I store
important email on one or more IMAP servers, I must trim these emails.
Currently I do so quite easily using Mutt. I might save 5 or 10 lines of
code, and delete 150 lines of redundant junk. Multiply this by 1000s of
emails, and one can see the disk space saved.

PopTray that you are missing in TB?

On a machine where I cannot fire up all of my email account (say no TB

it off. When I received the encrypted message, I would make a new
folder for it and store it there.

Then I'd delete the old, original message. Yes, I would, even if that
destroyed the record that it had been sent and received.

I just want to be able to click in the message, delete about 8
characters, click save, or CtrlS or some such, and be done with it.

I do understand and agree with you. Was just considering your present
dilemma.

But, my agreement was the reason I asked if you knew of a Wish List
(BT) request that we could write support notes to.

Enough people might sign on to the Wish to make RL reconsider its
policy stand on unchangeable incoming messages.

The work-around that I referred to was to put the message in the
Outbox and edit it there, then save it back to a folder. (This would
not keep the password, as my idea for encryption would--I thought you
would want the password, also. But I guess you have another safe way
to store that.)

Or, of course, you could do a cp of the message body in Notepad, edit
it, and then recopy it into TB! .

The work-arounds are indeed cumbersome and time-consuming. If you'll
find a Feature Request entry in BT and post the link, I'll be happy to
write a supporting note, as will--from a recent discussion of this
issue that I saw on TBUDL--a number of other TB! users, I think.

If they do incorporate an editor to change an incoming

Thanks for the latest beta. Here are a few
observations:

(1) Under the Main menu, Specials has Watch Replies In

(2) Refreshing a virtual Watched folder causes the Sent

is annoying.

(3) Invoking, by System Hot Keys, Check Mail for All
