It appears to close OK if I close right after I open.
A few times, the Exit appeared to finish its clean-up,
then the message and Auto-View window went blank and
the bat icon stopped flapping.

It closed fine though with Task Manager.

And Tony Boom has just reported in that it's closing fine in XP/SP2.

I just did a quick survey of the notes attached at the BT Report at

All but 2 or 3 who wrote confirming notes said they were using either
XP or Win2000. There were several, writing notes about the middle of

It may not be, however, specific to an OS, but only specific to some

I hope everyone to whom it happens will continue to mention it here on

Yes, that's my experience with it also, When the closing does happen
normally, it's wonderfully fast.

TB And no matter how much I open and close it, it just won't freeze.
TB I'm happy to say I'm choughed to bits with this version... Apart
TB from the fact my messages are taking a yonk or two to reach the

Since it does happen for me, but not always, I'm going to try to test
Marck's theory--something also that Stuart Cuddy thought earlier might
be the cause--that the hang-up happens when trying to close only a
minute or so after a mail check.

I'm going to try to be a good researcher and keep an exact record of
the number of times, and whether shortly after a mail check, it hangs.

This really is a great version, and it can only get better, with so
many people trying to track down the reasons for the remaining buggy
behavior.

Yep mine is not closing at all. I have to bring up my Task manager

CPU usage, and about 43 meg of Memory being used.

Interesting. It conserves my message list pane (I don't run the
preview pane). And it hangs indefinitely. Task Manager will say 0 CPU
consumption.

I've been trying for the last half-hour to get it to happen, and I
can't reproduce it. I've been closing immediately after a mail
download or check, and once I closed immediately after a send.

Just beautiful, lightning fast, trash-empty and compression and
closure.

So now I'm going on the theory that length of time since launch may be
a factor. I'm going to keep TB! up for the next 2 hours and see if the
bug is then reproducible.

Thanks for writing, Allie.

MB Cannot help but smile at your typo. Looks like something out of a

EC You make me curious Mary ...

1) In parts of the U.S. South, marry, Mary, and merry are
pronounced the same.

2) In Elizabethen English (Sixteenth Century English), the word marry
was often used as an exclamation, in the same way that we would say,
Astonishing! or Wow! or even sometimes, simply, Well, to begin a
sentence.

That's in addition to its conventional meaning, the same as today, as
a synonym of to wed.

Example, from Shakespeare's play, *Much Ado About Nothing*:

Leonato: What would you with me, honest neighbour?
Dogberry: Marry, sir, I would have some confidence with you
   that decerns you nearly.

End tutorial. My comment was just a lighthearted effort at humor. :)

Yes, I had been following your problem with interest. However, mine
does not duplicate yours. When TB! is frozen after refusing to
close, the Task Manager says that the CPU is running between 0-4%.
Mostly at zero, since the only other application that I run with The
 Bat! is F-Secure.

Yes this seems quit different. When I close TB! it was removed from
Systray but not from Memory and the CPU stayed high until removing it
by hand.

So mine is not a high CPU problem but a bug I am encountering in the
latest beta, and I have made a bug report on it:

jep.

I think you have good advice to open a new bug report on your own
problem, which seems to be high CPU related to something in Global
Options, according to what you and hggdh were saying.

Yes I will. 'hggdh' will open one for me for now. Probably I will/have
to reregister in BT so as I can add my comments.

Marry, would you have to proper URL where to register at BT?

A third instance last night, as I was shutting the computer down for
the night.

I had the main window of The Bat! up, with the Connection Centre
positioned behind it, edges visible in a conformation that I like.
I closed the Connection Centre.

I clicked on the Window X close button. No response. Frozen Bat.
Brought up Task Manager, killed TB!, and shut down for the night.

All well this morning. My conclusion: The Bat! is randomly refusing to
close for me, no matter what other circumstances exist.

So, subsequent to writing this, I placed it in the Outbox. As one last
trial, I then clicked on the X (close) button. Same result as last
night:

Bat would not close and ceased responding.

So, I killed it with the Task Manager and re-launched.

Anyone confirm this behavior? Anyone reproducing it?

Well, as I had stated in this thread, I only have TB running on two
machines (both XP Pro SP2) one at work (where I experienced all the
freezes) and here at home, where I have yet to get TB to hang on me.
I am really at a loss here, but I do agree that it seems to be a
random thing.

I don't really believe in randomness in such matters. But random or
not random, it is a serious bug. When it happened to me - after I had
already noticed other anomalies in 3.0.2.1 - I reverted to 3.0.1.33. I
figure I can use a few days of stable email. :-)

AY I don't really believe in randomness in such matters. But random
AY or not random, it is a serious bug. ...

I did not mean random as a cause. There is a cause. I meant that it
did not happen to me every time and I could not spot the difference in

Enjoy. The puzzles are intriguing me, so I continue testing the

would of course revert.

And, at present, I am not running a business. Makes a difference in
what one can tolerate. :)

AY Report it.

Off to do so. Will close one more time as a test, then report. So far
Close with button, Close with right-click on Windows Taskbar, and
closing with File/Exit have all hung The Bat! for me. But not every
time.

Please confirm, if you can, my bugtracker report that I cannot close
The Bat! in the current beta and must kill it with the Windows Task
Manager when it freezes after an attempt to close it.
