Re: 3.0.9.17 new-/non-/fixed issues

2005-04-20 Thread Boris Anders
Hello Marek,

Marek Mikus wrote (in mid:[EMAIL PROTECTED]):

ironyGreat, now we have all these bug 2 twice. That makes all much
 easier and saves much work./irony

Bugtraq is main place for bugreports, I don't understand Your irony.

Bugtraq is one big big chaos, with hundreds unreproduceable, already
fixed, never seen again bugreports. I just can't believe somebody has
any orientation in it.

Sorry, but I really can't understand why you copy all bugs from the
great list of Peter into Bugtracker.

TBBETA is a place for discussing bugs, Bugtraq is a place for telling
developers about them and where are bugs easily maintained and under
 control.

And all developers with official support is working with it.
Oh, I really hope this is not true. All developers work with it - and it
has 329 new reports? Correct me when I'm wrong, but new means never
seen/tested by developer

 I have described it
saw mid:[EMAIL PROTECTED] too late, I'm sorry.

and if You really need an answer,
Of course, why do you think I replied?

Max wanted it, because Ritlabs can read all hundred messages sent
daily to TBBETA, but will not have time to solve them then.
Well, my answer might go more to Ritlabs/Max then to you:

Many bug reports on TBBeta are already in Peters list. So if Ritlabs
would read this mail, lot of bugs could be fixed and much messages could be
saved and that with reading only ONE mail (not 30 bug reports in BT +
changing the status).
Furthermore if Ritlabs would answer to bugreports on TBBeta, much
messages and time could be safed - as there would be no need for others
to try to confirm a already fixed bug.

But the situation now is:

Bug reported on TBBeta
Bug will confirmed and deconfirmed on TBBeta.
Bug was fixed by Ritlabs - but nobody knows:
Bug will confirmed and deconfirmed on TBBeta.
Explainations of Bug in TBBeta and several message reporting the bug
again
Add Bug into Bugtracker with mails on TBBeta to confirm.
Several mails from bugtracker who reports that somebody confirmed the
bug.
and so on until Ritlabs releases new version (and of course, the
BugReport in the BT will stay open or verify wait for several
months/years making the chaos in BT a bit bigger).

I had hoped, situation will change with the great BugList of Peter - but
I might be wrong. Many testers in list didn't read this single mail but just
report there problem (again) on TBBeta. From these users who read the
list, only few answered - so the list doesn't seem to be accepted yet.

And in this difficult situation, all bugs are duplicated into BT, making
the chaos of BT greater without any advantage.

Peter, what do you think? Will you continue the list, or just give up,
seeing the situation is lost? (PM?)

(BTW: That's the reason why I didn't published my BugList for NFS!)

who told You to not add them into Bugtraq?
My brain. Can't see any sence of this.

And which NFS related bugs were included in list of Peter?
Not one, because I didn't (and won't) publish my BugList for NFS.

Some of bugs were already reported
Yes, I think it was exactly ONE.

and some of them were missing and I have added them.
about 30 I think. (21 today, and 9 earlier).

Re: 3.0.9.17 new-/non-/fixed issues

Hello Marek,

Marek Mikus wrote (in mid:[EMAIL PROTECTED]):

and You have orientation in TBBETA when approximately 150 messages are
 received daily?

no.

Do You really expect, developers will check that Peter's mail
Yes, I did! Peter spends much time on it, but (I guess) not, if nobody
cares!

and will watch all mids with all replies to know, how it is
reproducable and how many people confirmed it with which OS etc?
Seems that you didn't read the list at all! The discribtion how to
reproduced is below the mid. And BTW: It is always a very good and short
descibtion. /If/ you don't understand discribtion you /can/ read the
original, but if you did understand the discribtion why should you read
the original message and its replies?

And all developers with official support is working with it.
Oh, I really hope this is not true. All developers work with it - and it

 seen/tested by developer

as I told, TBBETA is for discussing and I expect, if will be bug
revealed and confirmed by many users, it will be added into BT with
complete description how to reproduce it.

ironyOf course./irony But sometimes it really goes this way, and
there the bugreport stays unwached until the end of BugTracker.

Max wanted it, because Ritlabs can read all hundred messages sent
daily to TBBETA, but will not have time to solve them then.
Well, my answer might go more to Ritlabs/Max then to you:

Many bug reports on TBBeta are already in Peters list. So if Ritlabs

saved and that with reading only ONE mail (not 30 bug reports in BT +

Peter's list have not many of them
what do you talk about here?

and had links to BT too.
no, it had only /one/ link to BT (BTW: this was /the/ (only) report that
was from bugtracker and now I'm sad I told him to add the bug to the
list).

Furthermore if Ritlabs would answer to bugreports on TBBeta, much
messages and time could be safed - as there would be no need for others
to try to confirm a already fixed bug.

so You expect, they will read all messages?

I expected that they will read /one/ message each release.

And in this difficult situation, all bugs are duplicated into BT, making
the chaos of BT greater without any advantage.

You can help to have BT better,

Sorry, but this is the task of Ritlabs. I don't get money to check about
the 1000 open BugReports. And furthermore I don't see any effort from
Ritlabs to keep the bugtracker uptodate or even care about it.

 confirm new
I won't confirm any bug report that was copied from BugList to
bugtracker. If you like to do senseless work, do it - I won't.

or ask users about more details.
and get no response at all.

but list in mail includes bugs for whole program and is harded to find
 duplicates.
In bugtracker there is often wrong category or even not a bugreport but
a wish report. And this (and other things) leads to the fact, that
nobody (including Ritlabs) does care about BT (the 300 new reports
proves this fact).

 - If you change language, MainMenu doesn't change - you have to switch
back and forth again to get the MainMenu translated.

Only a few items in sub-menus change language. The language of the
main menu bar isn't changed at all.

You should have a language file, which works with 3.5 to test it. Thanks
to german translator, who has already translated nearly all again.

My demo was fixed, but not the real problem:
 Back on the list then.

thx.

 Just because someone says

otherwise you make yourself ridiculous.

add a new feature right NOW when we have the chance...

No, don't so. Don confuse users with that. You could add it in a beta,

As I pointed out in mid:[EMAIL PROTECTED] I

Hello Alexander,

Alexander Kunz wrote (in mid:[EMAIL PROTECTED]):

I don't want to point my finger at Vili ;-) but do you others also get
 his mails not threading?

Yes, very very annoying!!! Reason is that the references are missing -
so if you answer to such a mail, your references are not correct.

Wouldn't it help to set the viewmode for the mailinglist to thread by
 reference+subject?

Maybe, but this isn't possbile in 3.0.1 RC6, is it?

Hello Alexander,

Circumstances like Vili's were the original idea for a combined
threading mode, we have it now in the most recent version, so I dare
say that you're not exactly in the best position to argue or complain.

There's no doubt about the fact, that the problem is on Vili's side.
So can you please enlight me, why I should use a version which has more
bugs than sand on seaside just to workaround the problem of Vili?

PS: its pretty hard to know which version you're using without an
X-Mailer header or some info in your signature.

Please enlight me again, why would one want to know which version of TB
I use? Isn't it my thing?

Oh, and if it really works that way: x.xx.x then I'm very disappoint

Ok, then fix only 100 bugs, release it and fix the next 100 bugs ...

Makes it even worse - because that not promised unicode support present
lots of small bugs - even not using unicode.
