5. (much easier) show the To and From columns in the message list use

to filter the message list to show only these messages. Now Quick
Search for 'xyz' recipient messages. Alt-Click the recipient.
Voila! a list of the messages you wanted.

That's good, I use it all the time, yet I forgot about it. It even
works if you move across folders. I suppose one of us should mention
that to get back your full list, just hit the "ESC" key.

That said, it would be nice to be able to do more complicated searches

wildcards searching

2001-11-19 Thread Rick Reumann

I'm having trouble searching my LDAP directory here at work on
Exchange. It doesn't seem to like any wildcards. When searching I can
put in 'A' for Name and I'll get back all the First names starting
with A but I'd like to be able to search for all the Names and have
them in this new address book I made. I was going to suck it up and
just go through each letter of the alphabet which wouldn't be that big
of a deal except for the fact that each search erases the previous
search in my new address book. I tried searching the archives and the
FAQ but didn't find stuff to really help me (or else I didn't look
long enough:). The two quesions are:

1) Is it a problem on the Exchange server not letting me use wildcards
to search? I've tried using * and % and no luck with either.

2) If I decide to just go through each letter of the alphabet and
search LDAP in order
to populate the new address book how do I prevent the previous search
from being deleted? ( I simply want to keep adding to the book with
new searches ).

Thanks,

Rick

In TB v.1.54b10, Thai looks normal in the RTV, with the vowels and the

correct. :-)

I don't know. I have copied a number of Thai fonts into the
Windows\Fonts directory and was going to choose one. But: despite my
setting to Courier New, which I usually use, the Thai text you

like it. :-)

I think this is a server-based thing, or may not be possible at all
with Exchange Server; I tried, using both TB! and Outlook Express, to
search my work-based server with wildcards; nothing happened. However,
I can use partial matches (so "Green" would match everyone from "Aaron

I have this problem as well with LDAP (existing results being wiped
out), and some other peculiarities; when I have more time I'll
investigate further.

When is an attached file saved?

2001-11-19 Thread Alastair Scott

I ask because I was sent a .EXE file as an attachment which contained
a virus (Hybris/D). This was correctly caught by F-Prot Antivirus;
although I deleted the email straight off it seems that the executable
was, at some point, saved in ...The Bat!\Mail\\Attach as
F-Prot caught it there this afternoon, nearly a day after the first
warning.

Q: is an attachment routinely saved there (irrespective of what
happens to the accompanying email, including immediate manual
deletion) or did I do something to save it (by some action I missed
while recalling the sequence of events)?

If it is routinely saved, that would appear to be a Bad Thing!

Thanks, do keep me posted.
Right now the only work around that I've come up with is
to set up an extra address book account. I then do searching of
LDAP on one account and then cut and paste the search results into
the other account. Sort of a pain, but it works.

I've never tried each option separately; I'd imagine rather a lot more
than the [POP3] mail servers would be skipped if you didn't check it.
So, whatever way you go, you'll be recreating some data.

(There also appear to be some bugs with Backup/Restore - some trivial
settings, such as the folder fonts and the taskbar/system tray
appearance, appear not to be carried across. I've filed a bug report
and will see what response there is).

Doesn't work here...

Under that, you have four bottons with a title and the letters C, I,

Sorry to give you only the letters and not the full names, but my

POP3 quiz...

2001-11-19 Thread Tor Tveitane

Hi,

Outlook express need to successfully download all messages from the POP3
server before it deletes the messages. Does TheBat provide any possibility
to delete every single message it has successfully transferred? We are a
development agency using shortwave radio modems to transfer email, and often
conditions are so bade that the connection is cut vefore all messages are
downloaded. Using OE all the messages are still on the server and the next
day there are twice as many messages to transfer.

We need a possibility to have every successfully transferred message to be
deleted on the server immediately.

Thans for any comment to this issue.

best regards

Unfortunately, AFAIK, TB!'s POP retreival system doesn't work the way
you wish. It tends to delete messages after full retreival of all
messages. If the POP session prematurely ends because of a
disconnection, no messages will be deleted from the server.

However, unlike OE, TB! has the mail dispatcher which allows you to
examine and delete messages at the server level. Perhaps this can help
you. Menu - Account // Dispatch Mail on Server.

A simple way? No.
But there's a work around that almost does as you wish.

Create your inbound filters carefully, so that your outbound messages
meet the conditions of your inbound filter, so when you use a certain
sender as the condition your filter triggers on.
Edit your templates that from every message a BCC is sent to yourself.

Create one outbound filter that deletes all outbound mail. Now your
message is sent and deleted.
Next time you collect mail, all sent mail is filtered by your inbox
messages.

The attachment gets saved in that directory, because you indicated
such in the setup.
Account => Properties => Files & Directories => File attachments...

Whether an attachment stays there is determined by the option on that
topic: "Delete attached file when a message is deleted from Trash
folder" You can delete the Trash folder on a regular base or configure
TB to do that automatically.
Account => Properties => Options => Empty Trash on exit

I'm not sure whether I agree with that, but if you feel so, do like me
(and most of this list's users):
Account => Properties => Files &... => Store attachments in msg body

I don't think so. Because no matter what folder he is
writing from it goes thru "Outgoing'. If you mean he then
has to make a different filter to put his response back
into the original folder, then you are correct.

I suppose he could just bcc himself via template & that
would take care of automatically placing his response back
in the original folder if his folder filter is set to
recognize a particular address "From" or "To" but I think
that's what you said in the first place. :-)

Probably would be helpful to understand his folder
  structure.

Anyway its interesting thinking about this stuff.

I've accrued quite a bit of outgoing filters to achieve this goal but
I built it as I went along. This isn't ideal and I agree that a simple
option to have the replies placed in the same folder as the original
message would be a nice option to have ... on a per account basis of
course.

Sorting office?

2001-11-19 Thread World Cruise Travel

Hi all,

Got a bit of a problem with the sorting office. (I probably do
things wrong, but I have no idea where.)

I want to kill file some repeating spammers. I set up the proper rule,
but the spam keeps popping up. The address is the same, so it's a
problem on my end.

I made a rule for incoming mail:
string: [EMAIL PROTECTED]
location: sender
presence: yes
action: move messages to trash

Now, where did I go wrong? I made exactly the same rule to move The
Bat! mailing list to it's own mail box. That works like a dream.

(If I can delete those unwanted messages rather than put them in the
trash can, that'll be even better.)

And another one I can't figure out: if I want to send confirm/reading
receipts, how do I add them to a template?

Try moving the filter to the top of the list of rules.

Use %READCONFIRMin the template. Check out the list of Macros in the Help

You could do that by setting up a filter using the 'Selective Download' option.
But I believe it slows down the download of messages and may not be recommended
if you use a dial -up connection.

Why? Because your AV software failed? I use PC-Cillin, and it would

I am not sure this is right. TB sends the DELE 1 command after you
have successfully downloaded message 2. It is the POP server that will
either delete the messages when they receive the DELE command, or
delete the messages makred for deletion only when they receive the
QUIT command.

I will try it out.

No, the "real name" part of the email address can be in quote marks.
In fact, if it contains special characters like "." - and I am nto
sure about the parenthesis - the real name part *must* be enclosed in
quote marks.

Extracting address and cgi- form-inputs out of message body

2001-11-19 Thread wilhelm . alm

Hello tbudl,

I get a lot of mails from a cgi program of another aplication containing form
field
 inputs in the body. E.g.
 Email: [EMAIL PROTECTED]
 Name: Visitor Abc
 Interest: Car
 Color: Red

I am interested to send an "autoresponded" message to the
visitors who has filled in his data.
The mail sender is the cgi, so I have to extract the mail address
out of the form inputs of the message-body.
 1. The filter has a mechanism to get the sender_adress from
the fiels FROM: TO: etc. Might I extract the fields out of the
 body with regular expressions?
 2. Formfields Email and Name are covered by makro_names FROMADDR,
FRONAME I found in the documentation, but how to define
 formname3=Interest and formname4=Color ?
 3. How to let the filter collect the FROMADDR into the
 addressbook?
 4. Can you provide a template.
