Norton Antivirus 2005 and connection centre startup problem.
Hello, I've an odd problem with running The Bat and NAV2005 and I'm wondering if anyone has any ideas or come across the problem before. I upgraded NAV2000 to NAV2005 the other day for some strange reason which I cannot yet fathom out!* On starting up TB the splash screen opens followed by the main TB 3 pane window. At this stage the Connection Centre would normally open but it doesn't. I get a musical 'ping' followed by a typically useful windows(bat) error message of " 'System Error Code 87' 'The parameter is in correct' " with an invition to click it's sole 'OK' button. On clicking the OK button all I'm left with is the main 3 pane window. Email continues to be collected and sent and on clicking 'Get New Mail' the CC appears. But in the accounts column on my left the slider button is at the bottom but the list isn't and I have to use the mouse wheel to scroll down. If I select an account read I can read the messages but I cannot get back into the accounts list. I have to click the window button at the bottom of the screen to be able to get back into the accounts list. Very tiresome! Turning off NAV email protection makes no difference but turning off the auto-protect does. So in effect I turn off NAV to get TB to function normally. Just wondered if anyone had come across this before? *I know that NAV is sometimes considered the spawn of satan so I'm not looking for 'You shouldn't have installed NAV2005' plse. :) Also I know I've got an old Bat, but I like using an old Bat as you can get a good score with an old bat sometimes! -- David Stone (UK) mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] The Bat! Printing a message causes a BSOD
Hello, Has this been noticed/mentioned before? I don't print off messages very often but a week or so ago I noticed that a few minutes after printing a message I got a BSOD. It cleared, unusually, after pressing the 'return' key although TB had shut down. If I restarted (without a Windows reboot) TB then after a short while the BSOD came up again and TB shutdown. This morning I found the BSOD and TB had shutdown and it wasn't until a bit later that I noticed a print out on the printer which had been printed by one of my filters (a monthly invoice!). Previous TB versions haven't caused this problem. -- David Stone (UK) mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] The Bat! Version 2.10.01. Platform Windows 98SE 4.10. Ver. A I.E. Creating templates with encryptcomplete macro
Hello, I don't know if this can be done but I've been trying so hard with emails to myself I'm on the verge of putting myself on my own spamlist :( An email arrives at an account example.com addressed to [EMAIL PROTECTED] and a sorting filter places it in the correct folder. However in the filter I've ticked the box to create a message to [EMAIL PROTECTED] and included in the template, hash encryptcomplete. As you know normally this auto encrypts to the key of the TO user without intervention, and I have many templates using this macro so I know it works normally. But in this case I cannot get the template to encrypt the message. I've even added exactly the same 'username' from the pgp keyring. The filter is rewriting the incoming message and placing it in the outbox as I want, but 'in clear'. The plan is to be able to email from a client where I have no PGP facilities into TheBat (on a machine with PGP) which would encrypt the message and send it onwards to a particular addressee. This is the latest version of the template. (Hashes replaced with !) Version 24745.6 RC/689745683 :( !TO=""!TO="recipient"!REPLYTO=""!REPLYTO="sender"!FROM=""!FROM="sender"!- == !OFROMADDR == !TEXT !ENCRYPTCOMPLETE -- David Stone (UK) mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] The Bat! Hello, If I use a TO header in a NEW email with no angle brackets such as:- [EMAIL PROTECTED] then write the message and post it to the outbox I notice that the Subject line follows on from the TO address like this:- TO:[EMAIL PROTECTED]:Angle brackets in TO header This has already caused the TBUDL mailman to baulk on a previous message from me. If I add angle brackets in the TO address like:- tbudl<[EMAIL PROTECTED]> The the headers are not concatenated and the 'Subject:' line is on it's own line. Base 64 decode in message text.
Hello, If I use PGP/MIME and encrypt/sign a message* with an attachment, say a JPEG file, and send it to myself at another TheBat! account then I can PGP decrypt the message but the JPEG is shown as base64 text within the message. To view the JPEG (or base64) I have to cut/paste and save to another file where I can use a 'shell' utility to right click the file and decode the base64 material. If I do not use PGP/MIME (set to 'off') and repeat the above then the JPEG appears as a separate attachment and can be viewed within TheBAt! message. I know some other clients decode PGP/MIME base64 and present it within the message (TurnPike, Eudora), so, is there a plugin for TheBat! that could decode base64 on the fly? I suppose there are virus implications which is why TheBat! does not decode base64 inline! Although I would imagine the AV software that most people run would cope with it. * I have to ensure that under properties|mailmanagement 8bit characters have to be set as 'quoted-printable' otherwise even my message text appears as base64. -- David Stone (UK) mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] The Bat! Hello, In a 'new message' template in the AB I have included the following macros... %SUBJECT="%COOKIE='C:\Program Files\The Bat!\subject.txt' Reference Number %TRACKINGNUMBER" [%SUBJ] ...%COOKIE Which correctly creates a new message with a subject header taken at random from the file subject.txt, creates the repeated subject in [] brackets in the message pane and then at the end adds a random cookie from the accounts' cookie file. However when I click in the message pane (change focus) to write the text the ...%COOKIE line changes and becomes the one selected from the file 'subject.txt' as shown in the subject header. I've even tried pointing the ...%COOKIE line to a different file and that works only until I change focus to the message pane. Am I asking too much from The Bat! or doing something wrong? It looks as if only one cookie file can be opened per message? -- David Stone (UK) mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] The Bat! Version 1.60c. Platform Windows 98SE 4.10. Ver. Creating an Inbox-Known folder
Hello, I'd searched the list subjects but couldn't see any subject that referred to my subject. So apologies if it's been covered and everyone except me and my dogs knows this... When I upgraded to 1.60 only the accounts that were currently expanded had the new folder Inbox-Known added to them. The contracted (collapsed) accounts did not, so I was looking at how to add the new folder. Adding an ordinary new folder just created a new folder without the arrow icon. So I created a new folder with the name $Known$. They looked like ordinary folders at the end of the account-folders list until I used the move-up option. Once moved above the Trash icon it developed the arrow-icon and looked like the other 'Inbox-Known' folders. Is this the correct way to create these new 'Inbox-Known' folders? Someone said here a few days ago, that even after using The Bat! for several years there was always something new to learn. That's very true! -- David Stone (UK) mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] The Bat! IG> Cheers IG> Ian G. Unfortunately no. It was only when I noticed .png files not being shown on an HTML page in IE that it brought back to mind I had had the same problem many months ago. On that occasion I searched the usual databases to find any references to the problem but without success. So I just re-installed IE then and it solved both the IE and THEBAT problems. Since Karin mentioned HTML pages in THEBAT I realised that yesterday it *was* HTML I was trying to view. So it must be a shared DLL, which somehow becomes corrupt, but as I say I don't know which one. It would be nice to know which one(s) so it could just be replaced should it happen again. I don't think it's THEBAT which causes the corruption it's just that the symptom shows in THEBAT as I run it more or less continuously. -- David Stone (UK) mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] The Bat! So I've reinstalled IE 5.5 which has fixed my IE problem and also my THEBAT problem. I never thought to check Karin if the stuck messages were HTML. Looking at the backup msgs there were certainly some HTML messages in the folder so I'm hoping ,fingers crossed, that it is indeed just a corrupt shared DLL. I ran IE and noticed that my Intranet home page applet took ages to load. I also noticed that my .png graphics were not displaying. That rang a bell. I remembered about a year ago I had the same folder/message problem with THEBAT and *also* the problem with IE not displaying .png graphics. On that occasion I re-installed 5.5 and it cured the IE and THEBAT faults. (I'd assumed that THEBAT, being so good, had 'cured' itself). So I've just reinstalled IE 5.5 again and it's fixed the IE problems and...the problem in THEBAT has gone. So could it have been some corrupted shared DLL file? -- David Stone (UK) mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] The Bat! Version 1.53bis. Platform Windows 98SE 4.10. Ver. Cannot read some messages in a folder.
Hello, I've just noticed in the INBOX of one particular account that if I click in the message list window the individual messages are not displayed. For example if there are 10 messages listed then clicking the first in the list will display the message but clicking on message 2 or 3 only displays the text of message one. Going further down the list displays some messages correctly. I've compressed and purged and restarted TB a few times. If after a restart I go to the folder and select messages which previously would not display then they do display. But after clicking on a few messages (which display okay) the fault suddently starts again. I've exported all the messages as .msg files and they all appear complete. I've also noticed that any new messages in the folders list cannot be read and display no text. I'm assuming it's the indexing file. Is there a way to fix this? I've also had a couple of error messages popup saying access pointer violations (or words to that effect!). -- David Stone (UK) mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] The Bat! Version 1.53bis. Connection Center problem with HTML messages.
Hello, I had a problem when I installed 1.52x with the connection center. I noticed that with some accounts the cc would come up,download the message and the cc would stay connected with the status bar fully 'lit'. I could not close the cc or hence TheBat! other than by using ctl-alt-del and ending the task. I noticed that any message that had downloaded this way would not show as read (after 1 sec with my option set) and double clicking would open an empty window even though the size of the message indicated some text in it. They were only a small size and the download size had not been reached. So I returned to ver 1.51 whereupon the messages would download fully. When ver 1.53 was installed it ran for 5 or 10 minutes and but then exhibited the same problems together with a couple of 'access violation 00690650 Read of address 212635E' messages. I even recreated a new account with a new name but the same problem occurred. So I returned to ver 1.51 and downloaded those errant messages. This time I looked at the messages and noticed they were HTML messages. Under ver 1.51 I have display HTML turned off but can obviously view an HTML message by clicking on the tab in the message pane. I think something changed with HTML messages from ver 1.51 and I need to do something different. (It *has* to be me!!! :) ) Any suggestions anyone please. -- David Stone (UK) mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] The Bat! Version 1.51. Platform Windows 98SE 4.10. Ver.
