I can relate to that. I began using TB during the 1.32 Beta cycle. I
registered it after about 4 hours of use. For the most part I have been
very happy with TB. I am not fickle about software clients, I don't change
at the drop of a hat.

The security and filter functions of TB are the main reasons I have stayed
with it. I don't give a whit about HTML, IMAP, PGP or the ability to
synchronize with my cell phone or the satellite radio in my Durango. I
just want it to handle my 12 pop3 accounts, even if I have to leave town
for 2 months.

But, here lately with the new beta cycle, I'm no longer sure. The memory
spikes, finding ALL of my mail in the inbox or the junk folder. I don't
know what has happened with the filtering. Sometimes they work and other
times it is like they don't exist. The memory spiking seems to be better
in beta 25, but in the next one, Rit will most likely add another new
feature, and it will spike again.

All I can say is Poco looks a lot better than it did when I checked it
out a couple of years ago. Time will tell whether I stay with TB or jump.

I rambled on but that is my .02.

Select F4 broken

2003-08-02 Thread Paul Wilson
Saturday, 8/2/2003, 3:06 PM

Hi TBUDL Members,

I am using a bets version. This is not a beta problem. This started way back
with the 162 release version. I just haven't had time to deal with it.

The highlight F4 to reply with quotes quit working.

It works for List messages but not for Tbot.

With my personal messages it works for some messages but not for others. I
have checked the possibility of them being or not being in the address book.
Doesn't seem to matter.

I highlight the portion of the message I wish to quote, press F4, the intro
stuff is there (Hi so and so, date time), the sig stuff is there. Where the
cursor should be below the quoted material, it is in the upper left corner of
the screen and nothing is quoted.

I have tried copy and paste of the ones that work to the areas that don't
work, same result. I even resorted to folder templates no success.

My question, is there a file where all the templates are stored or are they
individual?

I am ready to purge all of them and build from scratch, but that is a big time
consuming project.

I have tried it with just the plain %quotes, same result.

Here is the template:

<---
%DOW, %DATESHORT, %TIME
Hi
%TOFNAME,%SETPATTREGEXP="(?m-s)Date\:\s*?((.*?[\d]{4})\s*?([\d]{0,2}\:[\d]{0,2}\:[\d]{0,2})\s*?(.*))"%REGEXPBLINDMATCH="%HEADERS"

^^ Works

I don't have a problem with that as long as it comes up with a new mid.
The law enforcement trend here in the US is the impounding of all computers when
a search warrant is executed. I do not agree with that policy unless it is
explicit on the warrant, it is still done. Once that hard drive is not in your
control, any hacker could make the mids match. That is one reason I am no longer

I hope you are wrong about the feature being added. You will never convince me of a
legitimate reason to modify incoming messages. E-Mail is frequently used as evidence

Nothing gets done without committee approval.

The lists related to The Bat! are amazing, every two or three months
someone gets an ingrown hair in an uncomfortable place and wants to

This is what I use SmartBat for. I have at this time three files plus

A third one I use for draft type messages that I am working on, but

The only constant in the address book entries is that my last name is
somewhere in it. Each entry is unique, eg: Paul Wilson, Pwilson,
pgwilson, etc. Each handle or nickname is not even a variant of those.

By the way, I had to find this message in my archive account. It never
arrived in the account that it was sent from. I think there may be a
problem with that account.

For testing I have pasted the same template in all of the address book
entries, plus the group reply, the account reply and folder reply,
(which normally is blank) Same result, only a portion of the template
works.

MDP> If that were really the reply template being used then you would have

The problem is only with that one account. A reply between any of the

reply template problem

2002-08-10 Thread Paul Wilson

Saturday, 8/10/02, 7:57 PM
Hi TBUDL Members,
I posted this on the beta list and got no response, so I will try
here.

I have several accounts set up. Each has a unique variation of my name.
No duplicate handles or address book entries. No Folder Templates
involved here, (I don't use them)

If I send a test message from one account to another, all works fine.
If I reply to that message, Highlighting and pressing F4 only a portion
of the template works.

The reply will have the proper date and name, subject info. The
Quotes, cursor and cookie macros don't work. No quotes, the cursor is
at the top of the page and where the cookie should it says
(E:"\batbu\tags.txt") which is the proper path and file.

A reply to any other message, including one from myself at work, works
perfectly as expected.

I am not sure this is not a protection in case a person had auto reply
set up you could end up with a buzzillion replies, or if there is
something I am missing.

The template is below. Any help appreciated.

We will have to disagree on this one. I see just the opposite

Templat problem (reply template)

2002-06-01 Thread Paul Wilson

Saturday, 6/1/02, 5:54 PM
Hi TBUDL Members,
I am having a problem with templates. I want my reply to be below the
quotes. I have blank folder and account templates. I am only using
address book templates.
No matter what I do, when I highlight a portion of a message and hit
F4 the cursor pops up above the quotes.
Also, the "Bomb of the day" phrase below has been removed from the
templates. It still shows up.
I have tried changing words in my sig in the various adb group
templates in an attempt to track it down. To no avail.
There is a rogue template somewhere. Here is the template I am using
for this list.

If that happens I will get along without the lists. If you think the

E-mail lists are the best. This is an E-mail program after all.
If the volume is too much, just read the archives and don't subscribe

J> How can we/you spend all our time nit-picking the program of our choice every

The percentage of "nit-picking" is really very low and usually from
only a few people who think The Bat! should perform some function like
their previous e-mailer did. Which is not in itself a bad thing.

This is the most "user friendly" mail list I have ever been involved
with. Where else can you ask a question and get 3, 4 or five viable
answers within five minutes?

J> Easier for me to go back to OE and not have to read 200 questions/ day about TB.

J> PAID FOR TB!! While OE and NS are free.

That is your choice if you are willing to trade 200 questions (and
answers), for crashes, lockups and viruses included with those
programs. I paid for TB at about version 1.29 or so and have never
looked back.

J> Can we end this and get a decent product out of the bat! ?

Best E-mail program I have ever used.

J> regardless of comments from "moderators" with credentials.

The Moderators on these list come with very good credentials. They are
helpful, knowledgeable and even-handed. I have not seen anyone get
"Trouted" in several months ;)

Most of the time they are experiencing the same behaviors we are. At
least when you get a message from Allie or Mark, they are using The
Bat!, not so on some lists I have been on, (Eudora for one).

It is the fastest of this series and very stable for me.

I may be wrong but I think all you need to do is rename the old exe

The Bat! temp files.

2001-04-22 Thread Paul Wilson

Sunday, 4/22/2001, 12:05 PM

Hello TBUDL list members,
I just checked my windows\temp dir for left over bat.tmp files.
There was 165 of them, I then checked my trash folder. It contained
165 files. After deleting them and purging all folders, the temp
  files were gone.
I don't know if this is part of the issue other people are having
with the temp files building up. I have never had a problem with
massive build-up of the temps, perhaps it is because I do frequent
purges of the folders. My system is on all the time. The only time I
shut down TB is to install an upgrade.

the option of calling up the ticker.
My family uses this computer and hides the ticker. I have to bring up
the main program click options/mail ticker/show automatically then
minimize the program. One click in the menu would be much nicer.
The delete message is one that is really needed.

Re: Ctrl-up Crtl-down behavior

2000-08-05 Thread Paul Wilson

Hi TBUDL,
I thought I was the only one with this problem.
The key combinations happen just the opposite of the direction
the little arrow in the sort menu indicates. I thought it was me,
and perhaps it is.

On or about, 8/5/2000,Fred van Veen, during a
brief period of lucidity said:
