I am slowly getting this thing working. It isn't easy and I feel bad for someone with little to no computer experience at all. Macro's and filters are my next challenge. The reason I asked about the e-mail address is that I was under the impression that The BAT changed the e-mail address to make you anonymous, that is the whole reason I bought the program, anonymity. At least that it what is said in the Anonomizer web siteI also thought that you could send encrypted messages that Decrypted when they reached the other persons Inbox, with out them having to know about Public/private keys, keyrings, Keyring servers etc. I use PGP but everyone I send e-mail to doesn't know how or doesn't care. It is a shame we need to protect everything we send outthat is why I have an unlisted phone # and caller ID. That is what I wanted in my e-mail and Unlisted address. I am sure I will get it eventually. It was just disheartening when I spent all this money only to find no manuals, not even adobe instructions, Probably should have gone with SafeMail, oh well live and learn Thanks again I am not going anywhere and I stick up for my self and put these people in their places in such a way as it makes them look like the bad guy and I look like the victim. I didn't know that some boxed versions came with an LG e-mail address.. At which domain? Ritlabs? No, the dial-up login details come with email addresses at the ISP. So, you sign up for a dial-up account wiht the ISP, they automatically give you an email address (at least some do that over here). This is what I understand is meant by ISPs email address. It's what I understand, too. Comcast assigned one to me, and I was allowed to select 5 additional ones, when I signed up with them for Broadband. My first ISP (Premiernet) was a dial-up, and they supplied me with one e-mail address and with the POP3 and SMTP strings to put in the boxes of Account/Properties/Transport. This consisted of different words from the ones I needed to set up Comcast at Account/Properties/Transport. Further, at yet another ISP (which I used first for dial-up and then for broadband), the domain name didn't work; I had to use the address numbers. Another place a novice like me could get into trouble with set-up is in the Authentication boxes in Account/Properties/Transport/Authentication. Some ISPs are unforgiving about those. I suppose one could find the right way by trial-and-error if the ISP is no help--as Comcast was no help to me. They said they never heard of The Bat! and why didn't I just go with Outlook Express? Or read my mail on their website? grrr I have a vague memory of having to change a setting in Win XP Home to make all this work for dial-up with Premiernet, when I switched from Win95 to WinXP. But I might be confusing that with the switch from dial-up to broadband, with Comcast. It was all a long time ago, as Internet access goes. I give these details to show that it is not easy for a first-time Batter to get it right. I wanted to offer Bob my help, but I didn't have time on those particular days. I was reading but not posting. A beloved pet came very near to death ten days ago. A blood transfusion in the animal hospital saved her life. Then there were the early days of her convalescence at home. She seems to be on the mend now. Anyway, that's why I didn't get involved in what looked as if it would be a time-consuming effort. Many times frustrated newbies come here to TBUDL exhibiting what looks like a bad attitude. I had a bad attitude myself when I first showed up here! I'm glad a few people stuck with the task of trying to straighten me out!! As to Bob's claim to be a computer engineer--does that necessarily equate to computer programmer? Maybe he built hardware boxes and someone else set up his e-mail applications for him. Then, in his second post, he said he was home on disability. I have some disabilities of reasoning and memory and technical vocabulary my own self! I can relate to his needs. But I don't expect to see him back here, given that the only advice he received from fellow members of TBUDL was to read the Help File or to go back to his ISP for help. Hello Group, On Thursday, November 24, 2005, 2:49:21 PM, Bob wrote: I know what every thing listed is and have set it up dozen of times and in dozens of configurations yet it still will not connect to the bat server. I wonder if the issue is a lack of understanding here? TheBat! does not connect to 'the bat server' - it should be set up to connect to your ISP or whoever provides your email service. TheBat! is just a program for collecting and reading email, just like Outlook Express. The settings you need are those that you entered into Outlook Express. However, as has been pointed out, if you and your partner share one email account then you need to decide which email program to use, if you want to use different programs then you need separate email accounts (unless you really want to go through the pain barrier!). -- Jeff Gaines Damerham Hampshire UK Current version is 3.62.14 | 'Using TBUDL' information: http://www.silverstones.com/thebat/TBUDLInfo.html

Hello Bob and Melissa everyone else, on 23-Nov-2005 at 21:39 you (Bob and Melissa) wrote: I am running Xp Media center sp2 So you could create two separate user accounts to log in to Windows. One for your wife, with a fully configured OE, one for yourself, with TB. we share an outlook express account What I meant is, do the two of you have a SINGLE email address, or does each of you have his own mail address? Outlook Express is only a program to access your mail account. The actual mail account is from your email provider. TB is another program. IF you have a single email address that both of you share, things will be, uhm, rather difficult. The POP3 protocol for email access downloads the mails from your email account (on the server of your provider) to your local computer. Once they're downloaded from the server with one email program (either one, OE or TB), they're not on the server anymore - and the other program can of course not access them (unless it is configured to leave the messages on the server, but I'd say forget it, because its too unhandy to really work with that every day when using two different email programs). In the case that you only have one email address, a possible solution would be an IMAP account, were the mails stay on the server forever and you only read them at home with your email program of choice. -- Best regards, Alexander (http://www.neurowerx.de - ICQ 238153981) Mathematics may be defined as the subject in which we never know what we are talking about, nor whether what we are saying is true. -- Bertrand Russell Current version is 3.62.14 | 'Using TBUDL' information: http://www.silverstones.com/thebat/TBUDLInfo.html

Dear Bob, @23-Nov-2005, 15:39 -0500 (23-Nov 20:39 here) Bob and Melissa [BAM] in mid:[EMAIL PROTECTED] said: BAM I am running Xp Media center sp2 BAM we share an outlook express account BAM I want to have her just use the outlook accout and I use the bat seperate BAM and not from the outlook client. This does not sound at all possible. If you share an email account and mailbox then the only way to separate the mail is by filtering within a single client. You can't read the same account from two different programs. Well, you can, but it's non-trivial. BAM I am confused as to what I put down as my reply to address. If BAM I use my ISP address it will go to my outlook account I would BAM suppose That makes sort of sense. You have an email address. It is your from address. It is your reply address. You only have the one. You have an ISP. They are erols.com. They have POP3 and SMTP servers. I would guess those would be something like pop3.erols.com or mail.erols.com and smtp.erols.com or relay.erols.com. Only your ISP can give you that information, not The Bat! help or forums or mailing list. You may be able to glean it from the settings in Outlook. BAM that is not what I want...I want to use two email clients BAM Preferablly creating a seperate dialup icon that would connect me BAM to the BATbut mabey I am asking to much... Wy too much. To use 2 email clients you need 2 email accounts - or, at least, 2 *mailboxes*. If you and your wife share a single mailbox, then you really need to go back to email 101 and understand that when one program reads mail, it takes *all* of it from the mailbox. When the other program goes looking ... it's all gone. You could configure both clients to leave mail on the server but, with respect and apologies for any offence, if you are unable to work out the basics of POP3 and SMTP server address settings from your ISP help forums then there's only a slim chance of getting on to the more complicated issues of setting up leave mail on server and delete after n days settings. If you actually *do* have your own mailbox, come back and we can talk some more. -- Cheers -- //.arck D Pearlstone -- List moderator and fellow end user TB! v3.62.14 on Windows XP 5.1.2600 Service Pack 2 ' pgpZ9wpFRvVGP.pgp Description: PGP signature Current version is 3.62.14 | 'Using TBUDL' information: http://www.silverstones.com/thebat/TBUDLInfo.html

BaM So the forums are the best becasue you have gone through BaM itBeing a computer engineer I still can't get his damm BaM program to work You are not serious, right? What kind of computer engineer does not know what is POP and SMTP? If you don't joke, correct your intro: ..being an X, where X is DEFINITELY not a computer engineer... Read the manual. You said you read it. I don't believe you... The questions that you asked and are related to TB! are in the help. The others (how can you use Outlook and Bat) are not TB! related. Look for it on the web. Sorry Bob, but instead of asking simple questions, please work a little on it before you send a question... We should not WORK INSTEAD of you...
