text. But...I have to then copy and paste the To address (sometimes)

You are referring to quick templates. You don't have to use keywords
and shortcuts, you can as well choose them from the menu which i guess
is what you want.

Edit some quick templates (Options-Quick Templates...) and then use
them by, while in the editor, choosing the corresponding template from

Hello Marcus,

It would be great if this menu was available:

1. On right clicking the mouse.

2. The choices filtered by the folder the originating message was in.

3. Not having to click Reply first.

Since I respond to such large quantities of email, a faster way of
doing this would be much better for me.

MAU Hi Jon,

Thanks, that is the best solution I can think of so far. Funny, I am
so used to doing things on the computer that paper doesn't even come
 to mind!

MAU As I have just said to Peter, why don't you use SmartBat? Click on F6
MAU is you haven't used SmartBat before.

Hello Jon,

Smart Bat is too slow to use. I have faster solutions than that
 already in place.

You must really be living life in the fast line if the split second it
takes SmartBat to open and close is too slow for you! I think I saw a
Star Trek episode about your race of people, whose molecules moved so
fast they were invisible to us Earthlings.

Would you care to share that with us? I'm curious about how you're
choosing to manage all those quick templates? Or did you get yourself
a specialist macro tool, like PowerPro for instance?

chuckle On a serious note though, it's one thing to open SmartBat!.
It's another thing to use it for the proposed task. I wouldn't want to
use it for that. A piece of paper would be better. It would indeed be
too slow.

Here's what I would do: have a list of the quick templates on paper
to quickly find the handle, type it in and hit ctrl + space. After
all, your fingers are already on the keyboard when you edit a
 message...

How about keeping a quick template that is a DOUBLE-SPACED list of
your 30 quick templates. That way you'll only have to remember one
handle, instead of 30. (It might be useful to make an extra entry at
the end of the list, that will be easy to find later, perhaps a string
of = signs.) Then, when you want to include a listed template in a
message:

1. Type the list's handle, hit Ctrl+Space.

2. Find the handle of the template you really need and copy it.

3. Put the cursor at the end of the extra entry (remember the string
of = signs), and hit Enter twice.

4. Paste the handle you copied, hit Ctrl+Space.

5. Highlight and delete the list, and the extra space below the end of
the list.

Just a thought.

The one thing I could do quicker than open SmartBat and click on tab
which displayed a list of something is lose a piece of paper.

Hello Jon.

At 9:27 AM on Friday, April 05, 2002 you wrote the following
about [Multiple Standard replies - pick list]:

Jon Each folder requires about 6 different template
Jon reponses.

Assuming that some of these different templates have some
common denominators, I would create QT's for the common
denominators assemble them in the appropriate reply
templates via the %QINCLUDE macro. In that way you only
have to write these sections once include them in as
  many replies as necessary.

One way or another you're going to have to invest some
time in setting this up but, presumably, once its done,
its done. As you can see from the many responses you've
rcvd, there are a # of approaches.

Hopefully you'll find one that fits your bill.

  Good luck.

Re: Multiple Standard replies - pick list

2002-04-05 Thread Rick Reumann

Not trying to beat a dead horse with suggestions, but as someone else
mentioned you might want to consider a decent macro program. It will
help in so many ways outside of The Bat!. The neat thing is with my
personal favorite- PerfectKeyboard- you can organize all kinds of
lists to pop up containing your macros from just a right click of the
icon in the sys tray (or of course a keyboard shortcut:). So for
example, in this case you just create your e-mail replies, name them,
and then assign them to a group (maybe e-mail replies), then with
just a right click of the icon you can select e-mail replies and a
pop up box of your selection will appear and you just double click on
the one you want and the text is put in the e-mail. Piece of cake.
(And of course each reply could also be assigned a keyboard shortcut
so if you ever got bold and wanted to remember a few you could always
use the shortcut, vs. using the popup list). Link to perfect keyboard

quick menu (was: Multiple Standard replies - pick list)

2002-04-05 Thread Carsten Thnges

no, no ;)

JL or is this a high priority feature that The Bat team should look

[...]

JL Any suggestions?

Daniel had the idea in [1]. I found a much simpler way to get a quick
menu for quick templates:

Here is the quick template you should use for mails you have to
reply to in different ways using some canned answers:
__
%CLEAR

mail from: %OFromName %OFromAddr
   to: %oToName %OToAddr
  subject: %osubj

Standard reply template t_handle_s%cursor
canned answer 1 description t_handle_1
canned answer 2 description handle_2
canned answer 3 description handle_3
canned answer 4 descriptiont_hdl_4
canned answer 5 description templ_handle_5
canned answer 6 description handle_06
canned answer 7 description t_handle_7
......
¯¯

Every time you reply to a message you'll see information about sender,
receiver, subject and describtions and handles (= names) of all
relevant templates you might want to use.

Look at the %cursor macro. Assumed you created quick templates for all
your canned answers you just have to move your cursor down to the
wanted handle and finally press Ctrl+Space. This is really quick! (The
handles must be aligned on right of course)

This is even a better solution than selecting templates directly from
the menu (Utilities - Insert quick template) because a) you can list
only the templates you want and b) you can order, arrange etc. them as
you like (with separators...).

A canned answer template could look line this (%CLEAR is important!):
__
%CLEAR%-Hello %AbOFromFirstName=%OFromFirstName,

* you wrote:

%QUOTES

No problem, [...]

--
Regards, Jon
¯¯

Maybe one could use such a quick menu as a folder template for some
mailing lists (those without reply-to: and with the need for setting a
to: in folder templates) and let the user choose between reply to
list, reply to author etc.?
