2018-11-26 Thread Roger Ferrari
Using Thomas solution together with the Smart TOC extension for chrome
works just fine for me.

this is the
extension:
https://chrome.google.com/webstore/detail/smart-toc/lifgeihcfpkmmlfjbailfpfhbahhibba/related

it has a github page, unfortunately I am no coder/programmer I was trying
to understand a way to get the piece of code to reproduce what the
extension does but I just can't.

[tw5] Re: How to create Table of Contents inside a tiddler?

2018-11-26 Thread Roger Ferrari
TonyM, Hi there!

I was looking for a way to replicate wikipedias TOC and I think actually
the way you showed with tabs (<]" "!Heading 1"
"$:/state/tab1" class:"tc-vertical">>) is much better.
Though I would like to know if I could change the label it shows in the
tabs, instead of the tiddler name, a short alias.

I will try to explain why. I am using tidllywiki to put info about a RPG
world for my players, and I am writing about each city.
Each city will have History, Geography, Politics and so on. I can name the
tiddlers with `city-name-history`for instance, but it is a very large name
to show in the tab, whereas I would like to show just History.

Sorry my terrible english, if I wasn't clear enough let me know and I will
try again. Anyway thanks for your time.

what could I possibly be doing wrong? Thank you so much for any help and

[tw] [TWc] Forked version of Firefox to use as local application?

2015-08-26 Thread roger
For those of us using TW as a local application, is there a forked version of
Firefox suitable for use? A browser that isn't intended for browsing the web,
only browsing local html files.

I've tried using TiddlyDesktop but we may have 30 or 40 TW's open at a given
time. So accessing a specific TW from the browser Sidebar tab is very
efficient. I couldn't duplicate that efficiency with my limited efforts to use
TiddlyDesktop.

A "local system only" version of FF v14 with the xpconnect privileges intact
would be ideal.

Thank you both. The table layout is looking very similar to what I'm

for a person to figure out simple tweaks like the ones I needed for my table

[tw] Re: Table layout containing tiddlers with specific tag

2015-08-15 Thread roger
Thanks Jed.
I'm really a novice when it comes to the new stuff in TW5. Is is possible
to sort the list of tiddlers in reverse chronological order based on the
date created? I see in the List Widget section of tiddlywiki.com that
there is a sort parameter that can be used when invoking the list widget,
but can't find the syntax to get the list to sort in reverse.

A couple other things I'm not understanding. How do I render
as a link to the tiddler, rather than just text or alternatively, add a
link such as ?

Also, how do you control how the date is formatted? The default output of
is way more detailed than I want to display. I just need a
simple MM/DD/ format.

[tw] Table layout containing tiddlers with specific tag

2015-08-12 Thread roger
I've been utilizing TWc for several years, but am looking at possibly
updating to TW5. A feature I use in TWc is to generate a list of prior
tiddlers in a table format, with the tiddler creation date, tiddler title,
tiddler body and tiddler author. The desired outcome is produced in TWc
using a tiddler with the following content:

var tag="faq";
var hdr="| DATE | NOTE | AUTHOR |\n";
var fmt="| %0 |%1: <<tiddler %1>> | %2 |\n";
var tids=store.getTaggedTiddlers("caseNote",'created').reverse();
var out=[hdr];
for (var i=0; i<tids.length; i++) {
var when=tids[i].created.formatString("MM/DD/");
var title=tids[i].title;
var who=tids[i].modifier;
out.push(fmt.format([when,title,who]));
}
return out.join();

I tried using the script in a TW5 tiddler, but it doesn't work the same. I
assume the code works in TWc because of the inline javascript plugin. Is
that plugin available for TW5 or is there another way of accomplishing the
same thing?

[tw] [TW5] I'm really missing TWC AutoSave + SaveBackups

2014-11-01 Thread Roger Dodger
After years of using TWC, I've been playing with TW5 for a couple weeks.
Are the following statements about TW5 correct?

1. Save or Autosave overwrites the previously version TW version.

2. No way in TW to undo a tiddler delete, same as in TWC.

3 So if I accidentally delete a tiddler, then save or autosave the TW, that
tiddler is unrecoverable, UNLESS:

3.A The TW resides in a folder synced to cloud storage, where any file save
triggers an upload AND the cloud services keeps each distinct version, AND
the cloud service local client will still save triggering version, not just
the one existing at the time it starts the upload. (Can you tell I don't
use auto-uploading cloud storage ;-)

OR 3.B Run a folder synchronizer (Linux: built in, Win: 3rd party, Mac: ?)
where any file save triggers a copy resulting in each distinct version
saved to another location.

Or 3.C Manually use the browser's 'Save As' as often as needed, giving each
version a new name.

Is it possible to have the Web link at the bottom of the clip or to give

[tw] Saving TiddlyWiki on Mac

Have Firefox, Safari and Chrome installed

Can anyone give me a method to save TiddlyWiki's, my last known method

running this on my main Mac it just says it doesn't have enough privileges
to update the privileges on the latest Firefox (20.0)

So I can't use tiddlywiki at all at the moment.

For the past week I've been having problems accessing my tiddlyspot

[tw] Re: FileDropPlugin not creating a new tiddler when dropping pdf file

2009-12-11 Thread roger
I just realized that it doesn't seem to matter what type of file I
drop onto the TW, it doesn't create a tiddler with a link to the file,
but rather opens the file either in the browser or the default
application. So dropping an rft file for example, causes the file to
open in Word. So it seems obvious that this isn't an Adobe related
issue. Also upgrade Firefox from 3.5.1 to 3.5.5, but that didn't make
a difference either.

[tw] FileDropPlugin not creating a new tiddler when dropping pdf file

2009-12-11 Thread roger
Others in my office use FileDropPlugin daily to create tiddlers that
link to pdf files created by our scanning software. However, I just
tried to use it myself and it's not working. When I drop a pdf file
onto the TW file in my browser window, rather than creating a tiddler,
the browser opens the pdf file for viewing within the browser. I
checked the about:config setting as suggested by Eric in the
FileDropPlugin usage notes, and have the same problem whether the
setting is set to true or false.

My assumption is that the problem is with a setting in either Adobe
Reader or in Firefox. I did recently upgrade Adobe Reader from ver
8.x to ver 9.2.0. I think everyone else in our office is using ver
8.x, but I had to upgrade to maintain compatibility with another
application that uses reader.

I have discovered that by updating FileDropPlugin from ver. 0.1.1 to
the most current version the problem is fixed. So I know how to
correct the problem for the future, but we have a ton of TW's that are
using the old version of FileDropPlugin without any complaint. So I
guess I'd like to know exactly what the source of the problem is that
I experience on my machine so the other users don't run into the same
problem I just encountered.

All TW & linked pdf files are locally stored. Firefox is ver. 3.5.x
TW core is ver. 2.2.5 or 2.4.1

[tw] Re: Does jquery provide TW ability to query ODBC database?

2009-10-30 Thread roger

The database is the back end of a CMS and it is on a local network
without any web exposure. The files are associated with specific
cases, but of course, you need to query the index table to know which
files are associated with which cases. One reason for considering TW
as an alternative application to the CMS application to supply the
interface to the files is that it would make it possible to open
multiple TW's as tabs within a single browser window so that the user
would have nearly instant access to the files for any one of a number
of individual cases.

The TW files would also be stored on the local file system. I suppose
TW isn't really a requirement, but it opens up the potential for many
other options, such as storing notes or metadata. I would compare it
to putting sticky notes on the paper files. The electronic files being
accessed can't be modified, so having an easy way to create notes that
relate to specific files would be nice.

[tw] Does jquery provide TW ability to query ODBC database?

2009-10-29 Thread roger

Based on a brief review of previous posts I got the impression that
using TW as a tool to query an ODBC database wasn't really very
feasible. I'm wondering if JQuery has changed that situation or not.

I'm looking for a way to access files (primarily pdf's and mutlipage
tiff's). The files are indexed in a database. I'd like to query the
indexing table and access relevant files via a web browser, rather
than through the UI that sits on top of the database. If TW just
isn't suited for such a task, then I guess I'll have to look for some
other alternative.

My goal can best be summed up by a statement I read that was posted by
Eric Shulman a few years ago:
"database driven dynamic tiddler content... yum."

[tw] Re: UserName setting suddenly reverted to default YourName (solved)

2009-10-28 Thread roger

Now I'm back to normal. I went to the admin tiddler of one our 2.2.5
based TW's, opened the options slider and entered my user name. Now
my user name is loading up properly in all the TW files I access.
Apparently entering my user name in the popup box generated by the
SetUserNamePlugin doesn't make the setting stick the same as when it's
entered directly using the default method.

[tw] UserName setting suddenly reverted to default YourName

2009-10-27 Thread roger

In our office we use numerous tiddlywiki files and have for about 18
months. The TW's are either based on version 2.2.5 or 2.4.1. I'm
using Firefox 3.5.1 to access the files. Until a few minutes ago,
when I would open a TW file, my UserName would be correct. Suddenly
all of my TW files appear to have lost the ability to pick up my
UserName setting and the default YourName is being loaded with the
file. On the 2.4.1 version of the files, they are set up to prompt
the user when the file is opened if the txtUserName is set to
YourName, but on the 2.2.5 files, I have to go to the Admin tiddler to
fix it.

My question is why in the world would my UserName setting have been
working fine for all this time and now suddenly today it has stopped?
We have multiple users accessing the TW files, so I can't "bake" my
UserName in the TW files, but until just a few minutes ago, it wasn't
a problem. I did access the "CookieJar" tiddler on one TW file, but I
didn't edit that file, nor change the cookie settings for it.
However, it seems that ever since I accidentally accessed that
tiddler, my UserName setting has been jacked up.

Is there anyway I can restore the functionality I enjoyed until
moments ago? Entering my user name every time I open a TW file is a
huge pain.

[tw] Is it possible to control column width in a table

2009-06-25 Thread roger

I have a tiddler set up that contains the following:

|!Create Case Notes |>|>|
|<> |>|Your ~UserName is: <> |
|!|>|>|
|<> |>|>|
|!Previous Case Notes |>| !Scanned Notes & Email |
| |!| |
|<> |!|<>|

This works fine except for one thing. The content displayed in the
<> cell can be difficult to read when it
gets squished up by contents of the <> cell.

Is there any way to control the width of a particular table cell?

[tw] Possible source of intermittent JavaScript problems?

2009-05-19 Thread roger

At our office we have a computer that seems to have intermittent
problems running JavaScript with our TW files. The user complained
about frequent problems where he would put a TW file into edit mode,
enter info into a tiddler, then click done. At that point the browser
(FF3.0.8) would lock up rather than save the changes that had been
made to the TW. (autosave changes is turned on). Our TW files also
use the TiddlyLockPlugin and I've noticed that this particular
computer can't create the .lck file used by TiddlyLockPlugin. If
the .lck file exists, then the TW can interact with the .lck file, but
if the .lck file is missing, then it doesn't get created. If the .lck
file is missing then any attempt to put the TW into edit mode will
cause the browser to lock up. In both cases (editing a TW as well as
failing to create a .lck file) the browser doesn't generate any error
messages or script warnings.

We have a couple other computers that have the same problem with the
creation of the .lck file, but those machines don't have any problem
editing the TW files. At least, not to my knowledge.

In the past I've searched for reasons for this type of behavior, but
haven't had any luck. I installed Firebug on one of the problem PC's
in the past, but I couldn't see any JavaScript errors with the help of
that plugin either. I've tested the problem out with other versions
of FF and that didn't make a difference. File permissions for these
machines are identical with the file permissions on the computers that
don't have any problems working with our TW files. I'm wondering if
anyone here might be able to shed some light onto the problem.

[tw] Re: cookie issue with SetUserNamePlugin?

2009-05-18 Thread roger

Interesting. I also have the CookieJar plugin installed, though I
don't know if that makes a difference or not. I don't have a cookie
set for txtUserName as one of the baked cookies since we use the TW
files in a multiuser environment. Despite the fact you are unable to
reproduce the problem, at least now that I know what's causing the
problem, I can come up with a suitable workaround. Thanks for the
quick feedback!

[tw] cookie issue with SetUserNamePlugin?

2009-05-18 Thread roger

I suppose this post is directed to Eric's attention, but I've been
struggling with a cookie issue where sometimes the UserName would
persist and other times it would not. What I've finally determined is
that it seems to be the SetUserNamePlugin that is the source of the
trouble. I'm using core 2.4.1 with FF 3.0.8. If I set the UserName
using <> then the UserName I specify will persist
from session to session and TW to TW. However, if I set the UserName
using the <> option provided by SetUserNamePlugin, then
the UserName does not persist. I assume that means, it doesn't get
saved to a cookie.

I installed SetUserNamePlugin because I am also using
TiddlyLockPlugin. I was running into problems when a TW was put into
edit mode if the UserName was set to YourName. The user would change
their name at the prompt, but TiddlyLock would already have the file
locked by YourName. Using SetUserNamePlugin helped resolve the
TiddlyLock issue, but certainly seems to be the source of this
UserName cookie problem.

For now I can just include <> in plain site on the
TW so the user can see what their UserName cookie is set to and change
it if necessary. If SetUserNamePlugin didn't cause problems though,
I'd prefer to use it rather than having to always display the
txtUserName prompt.

Eric, just wanted to add my thanks to you for updating the
CreateTiddlersFromCSV plugin to handle commas and double quotes. I
have a spreadsheet that contains data which I've been wanting to
leverage by putting the data into a TW. Some of that data contains
commas which really need to be preserved, so the improved
functionality you've added is just what I needed.

[tw] Re: Does FF3 save cookies or not?

2009-04-14 Thread roger

I haven't taken time to try out Eric's suggestion yet, but am
wondering about another workaround.

Would it be possible to create a txt file on the c: drive of each
users PC that contains their user name. Then whenever the user loads
one of our TW files, have the file attempt to get the value for the
txtUserName cookie from the predetermined user name contained in the
text file on the users c: drive?

If that is possible, how would one go about coding that kind of
functionality? I assume it would be a matter of a pretty simple
systemConfig tiddler, but I've never written any javascript, just
hacked on what others have created.

We moved to Firefox when we first deployed our TW based files. I
guess I'll have to revisit using IE instead, though we've really
enjoyed a couple of the Firefox add-ons, specifically Session Manager
and Tree Style Tabs. It doesn't look like saving cookies is a problem
on IE, so that would solve the immediate problem and hopefully it
won't be the source of other issues.

[tw] Re: Does FF3 save cookies or not?

2009-04-06 Thread roger

Mike and FND, thanks for the help.

I set localhost as an exception for cookies, but txtUserName still
isn't being saved.

Is it possible to use javascript to set the default username based
upon the Windows login? In our environment it would be unusual for
someone to be using another person's computer to create/edit a
tiddler, so the Windows login username would work fine as the default
username. If I could set up the TW so that:
If txtUserName = YourName, then txtUserName = Windows login username
that would, I think, solve my problem.

[tw] Re: Does FF3 save cookies or not?

2009-04-03 Thread roger

Mike,
You're correct, sadly that's not the answer I'm looking.

I am using SetUserNamePlugin and have it set up to automatically
prompt the user for their name when the TW opens if the name is set to
YourName. I had to set it up that way because I am also using the
TiddlyLock plugin. With TiddlyLock, if you start to edit a TW with
the user name set to YourName, then the TW becomes locked by
YourName.

So if I force SetUserNamePlugin to check the value of the user name
when the TW is loaded, that avoids problems if the user needs to edit
the TW as SetUserName and TiddlyLock don't bump into each other when
the TW is put into edit mode.

Unfortunately, if I can't resolve the cookie saving issue, then every
user will be getting prompted for their user name on every TW every
time it's pulled up. We use hundreds of TW files in our office, so
it's not an insignificant annoyance if the UserName prompt has to be
dealt with every time.

I still don't understand how to set the cookies exception for
localhost, which I'm hopeful might be a solution, but I'm not overly
optimistic that it will.

[tw] Re: Does FF3 save cookies or not?

2009-04-01 Thread roger

FND,
Yes, I've been to that link a few times just trying to make sure I
correctly understood what was being communicated.

Hmmm, well I guess it doesn't matter so much why FF3 is playing nice
with our 2.2.5 files, it's the fact that I can't save the txtUserName
cookie for the ver. 2.4.1 files that I need to fix.

Will the localhost URL work for the situation I described? According
to the wiki:
"using a localhost URL (e.g. file://localhost/home/user/TiddlyWiki.html
instead of file:///home/user/TiddlyWiki.html) - that way a cookie
exception can be added for localhost"

But, how do I add a cookie exception for localhost?

[tw] Does FF3 save cookies or not?

2009-03-28 Thread roger

I upgraded to FF3 some time ago and was of the understanding that it
doesn't save cookies for local files from session to session. The
cookie I'm specifically interested in is txtUserName. I have TW's
that several of the people in my office access which are based on TW
2.2.5. Some of us are on FF3 and others on FF2, but none of us have
had any issues with txtUserName not preserving our individual user
names from session to session.

I've also been working on a TW based on 2.4.1 Every time I open the
2.4.1 TW the user name is set to YourName. I did install the
CookieSaverPlugin and set the value of several cookies in the
CookieJar. However, I can't really set the value of txtUserName in
the CookieJar since the TW will be accessed by multiple users, each of
whom will need to user their own user name.

Unfortunately as it stands right now, if I implement this new version
of TW in my office environment, each user will have to enter their
user name every time they start a new session with this TW. Everyone
in the office is accustomed to working with the 2.2.5 TW's and not
having to enter their user name each time they access the file. I'd
really like to keep it working that way as we move everyone in the
office to FF3 and ver 2.4.1 TW files.

So I guess my question are:
1) Why does the txtUserName cookie work fine in FF3 with ver 2.2.5 of
TW, but not 2.4.1?
2) And what's the best way to accomplish the same UserName experience
for multiple users of a local TW 2.4.1 file in FF3 as they've been
accustomed to so far with ver 2.2.5?

[tw] Re: Recommendations for incorporating email messages into a TW?

2009-02-24 Thread roger

Henk: I'm using FF, so the part about this not working in IE isn't a
problem. As I understand it, you have the VB macro in Outlook that
drops the message ID into the clipboard. But then do you just paste
that ID into a tiddler from the clipboard? In other words, the TW
plugin you mention just acts on the ID in the tiddler? Despite my
reference to FileDropPlugin, I think I'd prefer not to be forced to
have the TW file open just to associate an email message to the TW.

Anthony: I was thinking about creating an Outlook macro that saves a
selected message(s) to an "email" folder for the chosen TW. That way,
as email messages come in that I want to associate with a specific TW
file, I could execute a macro to save the message to a specific
location in msg format. When I'm in the TW file, I could access the
email messages. Obviously, creating a macro in Outlook to facilitate
the process wouldn't be required, but for my purposes, I think it
would speed things along considerably.

[tw] Recommendations for incorporating email messages into a TW?

2009-02-20 Thread roger

I'd really like to have my TW's set up so that emails that I want to
associate with a specific TW can somehow be connected. I don't want
to just copy and paste the body of the email as I'd loose all the data
associated with the message. It would be awesome if the drag & drop
functionality that FileDropPlugin provides could work with email
messages. Just drag and drop an email from the inbox onto the TW file
and have the email embedded into the TW.

As an alternative, I'm thinking about creating a macro in Outlook (our
email client at the office) that would facilitate saving an email
message into a directory that is a subfolder to the location of the TW
file. Then I could just use LaunchApplicationPlugin to open the
"emails" folder as needed.

I'm curious if others have come up with satisfactory ways to get email
messages associated with a TW file.

[tw] SetUserNamePlugin & TiddlyLockPlugin

2009-02-19 Thread roger

We started making extensive use of TiddlyWiki's at my office about 8
months ago and it has worked out really well. However, there are a
couple issues that arise frequently enough to be annoying, but not
often enough to be a deal breaker.

One of those issues is with the way SetUserNamePlugin and
TiddlyLockPlugin bump heads when they are both installed on a
TiddlyWiki. If the user is set to YourName when a user puts the TW
into edit mode, then TiddlyLockPlugin locks the file for editing with
the name, YourName. So if the user follows the prompt created by
SetUserNamePlugin, and enters their user name, then they are locked
out of editing the tiddler. What's worse, the TiddlyLockPlugin's .lck
file doesn't get cleared out and leaves the file set as locked for
editing by YourName.

The user then has to open the .Lck file and remove "YourName" from the
file. So, it's not hard to fix, but I keep having to show new users
how to fix this problem.

I previously tried to contact Richard Hobbis to see if he might
consider modifying TiddlyLockPlugin so that it would play nice with
SetUserNamePlugin, but I didn't get a response. I don't know if he's
still involved in the TW community or not. I'm wondering if anyone
knows how TiddlyLockPlugin might be modified, or whether
SetUserNamePlugin could be modified, or if it's just one of those
things that can't be fixed.

The project sounds very exciting and could really prove beneficial to
a lot of TW users. I know I'd like to try it out on our intranet.

TWINE is a terrific name. I'd suggest TWINS: TiddlyWiki Intranet
Server, but it just doesn't sound as good as TWINE, and feels like
plagerism of Eric's suggested name.

[tw] Re: How to "permalink" to a LOCAL TW-Tiddler from Windows applications like Mindmanager, Word, Thunderbird, ...

2009-01-06 Thread roger

Oops, I relied to heavily on my memory. After checking my posts to
the Outlook newsgroup is see that I did report that I was able to open
a permalink using the command line, but that was the only way I could
get to a specific tiddler on a locally stored TW, other than using a
browser of course.

The response I received in the newsgroup was that the file:// protocol
is different than the html:// protocol. If that's the case then I'm
very surprised that the permalink would work when I called up the
browser from the command line and passed the permalink url to it that
way.

[tw] Re: How to "permalink" to a LOCAL TW-Tiddler from Windows applications like Mindmanager, Word, Thunderbird, ...

2009-01-06 Thread roger

I was trying to get the permalinks to work in Outlook 2007 and finally
posed the question in the MS Outlook newsgroup. The only answer I
received was that processing html anchors (a/k/a permalinks) doesn't
work with local files. I don't know why that's the case, but it
doesn't seem to have anything to do with firefox as I couldn't open a
local file to the permalinked tiddler using IE, Chrome or Firefox. I
didn't try any other browsers. And it didn't matter which Windows
application I was attempting to use as the permalink failed regardless
of whether I was in Excel, Outlook, Word, OpenOffice Writer, Outlook
Express... heck I even tried to do with Launchy and also batch file,
all to no avail.

I moved the TW file I was working with online and tested the same
permalink from Outlook and it worked fine. For some reason, if the
html file is stored locally, then the browser either won't process the
anchor (#) or the anchor doesn't even get passed to the browser in
the first place.

I'm sure there's someone who knows why Windows behaves this way, but I
couldn't track down the technical reason why that's the way it works
(or doesn't work).

[tw] Sidebar not renderinging properly

2009-01-02 Thread Roger Alexander

I'm new to TiddlyWiki, so I may be missing something. The sidebar on
TW is not rendering properly. In particular, the sidebar is displaying
the following:

<><><><><><><>
index »

This is occurring with both local TWs, and with the main TW site
itself (http://www.tiddlywiki.com/http://www.tiddlywiki.com/). I get
the same behavior with IE, Safari, and Firefox.

Any suggestions?

Thanks,

Roger Alexander.

[tw] Re: TiddlyWiki on SharePoint?

2008-12-02 Thread roger

Thanks Ken.
I haven't had time to explore the potential of using SharePoint with
TW very much, other than to see that some plugins we use worked, and
others didn't. One of the issues was with ShowLocalDirectory, which
we use constantly. Using SharePoint, an that displays the
subfolder would probably provide similar functionality. TW is working
out really well for us as a sort of case management tool with the TW's
stored on and accessed from the local network, but when I get some
time, I'd like to explore how our current process would work if the TW
files and their respective subfolders were on Sharepoint.

[tw] Re: How do I "permalink" in an email

2008-11-28 Thread roger

I inquired about this issue in the Outlook newsgroup and the
individual who has been responding doesn't think it's really an
Outlook issue but a Windows issue. So I'm wondering can anyone access
a permalink tiddler in a TW from a hyperlink in any Windows
application. As far as I can tell, a permalink will only work from
within a browser, either pasted into the address bar, hyperlinked from
within a TW or other webpage, or bookmarked. If I try to make use of
a permalink in any other application, the TW will open, but not to the
permalinked tiddler.

[tw] Re: How do I "permalink" in an email

2008-11-26 Thread roger

My problems accessing a permalink from an Outlook email hyperlink is
limited to a TiddlyWiki saved on the local file system. So a
hyperlink to http://myTW.html#Item1 will open the TW with the Item1
tiddler being displayed. A hyperlink to file:///c:/myTW.html#Item1
will open the TW with the default tiddler(s) being displayed.

When I tried to substitute %23 for # in a permalink URL, the

[tw] Re: How do I "permalink" in an email

2008-11-24 Thread roger

Following up on my previous post. I thought it might be an Outlook
2007 issue. Apparently Microsoft has Outlook 2007 designed to use
Word to render the HTML for email messages. The same problems I
described in connection with opening a permalink from an Outlook email
message also occurs when accessing a permalink from a Word 2007
document.

Then I tried pasting a permalink in an OpenOffice document. The ]] at
the end of the URL had to be converted to %5D%5D in order for the
entire URL to be recognized. However, the end result was the same.
Clicking the permalink resulted in the base URL opening, but not the
actual permalinked tiddler.

Then I tried Outlook Express. Same results.

The only way I can get a permalink to work correctly is when I paste
the permalink directly into the address bar of a browser, or as a
hyperlink in an html document, such as a TiddlyWiki document or other
web page.

[tw] Re: How do I "permalink" in an email

2008-11-24 Thread roger

I was trying to overcome this same permalink issue as well. We use
Firefox 3 in our office and Outlook as our email client. Whenever a
permalink is pasted into an email message, the final two ]] aren't
recognized by Outlook as part of the URL. I thought this limitation
could be overcome by fixing the email message. So I wrote a macro
that would perform a find and replace on the and with %5B%5B and
%5D%5D respectively. I then set up a Rule in Outlook that runs the
macro on incoming email messages. That whole process works fine. A
permalink generated by Firefox 3 can be pasted pasted into an email
and sent to a co-worker. When the message is received, the macro
automatically fixes the hyperlink, so the user doesn't have to be
bothered with editing the URL.

Unfortunately, it seems that Outlook will only pass the base URL to
the browser (whatever the browser, IE, Firefox, Chrome). For example,
if the email contains:
file:///C:/TW/TiddlyWiki.html#%5B%5BTask%20List%5D%5D
Clicking that link in Outlook results in file:///C:/TW/TiddlyWiki.html
opening with the default tiddlers, rather than opening at tiddler
"Task List".

As far as I can tell, this is just the way Outlook handles such a
URL. I'm trying to find out if there is a way to override this
behavior. Bottom line: permalinks don't seem to work with Outlook,
regardless of the URL contains ]]'s or the encoded equivalent.

[tw] Re: Could use help understanding cookies in the cookiejar

2008-11-22 Thread roger

Maybe I can answer my own question here. By installing
CookieManagerPlugin and CookieJar, I can discover all the cookies used
by my TW.
Next I can bake the cookies to place all those cookie settings in the
CookieJar. Then copy and paste all the cookie settings that I want to
have in effect regardless of who opens the TW (or a copy thereof) into
a ConfigTweaks tiddler tagged with systemConfig.

If I'm correct, then I don't really need to be running any of the
various Cookie plugins in order to have the cookie settings I'm
concerned about take effect. I just need to make use of at least
CookieManagerPlugin and CookieJarPlugin to track down all the cookies
and establish their respective settings. Once I have the cookies I'm
interested in hard coded into ConfigTweaks, then I could uninstall
CookieManager and CookieJar from my template TW.

At least, I don't see a reason that won't accomplish what I want.

[tw] TiddlyWiki on SharePoint?

2008-11-22 Thread roger

Has anyone worked with a TiddlyWiki when it's stored on SharePoint?
I've been exploring the possibilities, but ran into the following
issues:

1. The TiddlyWiki is read only.
2. LaunchApplicationPlugin doesn't work.
3. The ability to store and access content in subfolders is gone.

At least the above are issues I've encountered. I didn't know if any
of them could be overcome. I assume the "read only" problem can be
fixed, but the other two perhaps cannot.

[tw] Could use help understanding cookies in the cookiejar

2008-11-22 Thread roger

I have a TW put together that I want to use as a template, if you
will, for other TW's. This template TW includes plugins that offer
options that are turned on or off with checkboxes. For example, the
SinglePageModePlugin. As I understand it, the state of checkboxes in
such plugins is maintained by cookies.

I want to be able to copy the template TW with the assurance that the
values established for the various plugin options all remain the same
in the new TW, as they are in the template TW. I want this to be
true, for myself, as well as for others who would access the new TW
from their own PC. Assume everyone would be using FF3 as the browser.

Does the above scenario require the used of the CookieSaverPlugin and
the CookieJarPlugin?
Are CookieManagerPlugin and CookieManagerPluginConfig also required?

Can some of the cookies be "hard coded" (as described here:
http://www.tiddlywiki.org/wiki/Configuration_Options) but others
cannot; and therefore, have to be stored in a CookieJar?

(I guess I don't have a clear understanding of how all these Cookie
plugins interact. Eric's documentation for them is excellent, as
always, but sometimes I'm a bit slow on the uptake.)

[tw] What's the "best" way to use permalinks with ]] at the end

2008-11-18 Thread roger

I'd like to take better advantage of the permalink feature. However
emailing the permalink or pasting it into a tiddler doesn't work so
well when the tiddler title contains spaces when the last two
characters in the link are the two ]]'s that enclose the tiddler
title.

The only way I've been able to get such a permalink to work from
within a tiddler is to put the permalink inside an html hyperlink.
( link ).

Is there another way to create a cut and paste permalink that doesn't
break down when pasted into an email, or a tiddler? Of course, I
could try to explain to my fellow TW user's at the office that they
need to add the two ]]'s back into the URL, but would like to know if
there is another option.

[tw] Re: over-ride (or modify title of) javascript alert?

2008-11-02 Thread roger

Oh, OK. Eric, am I correct that ConfirmExitPlugin replaced
SaveOnExitPlugin? I've been updating the TW we use at our office as
the template for all the TW's we create. I had been using
SaveOnExitPlugin but in the process of getting all the plugins up to
date I couldn't find that plugin on TiddlyTools.com anymore.

FND, you're correct I was bouncing between Chrome and Firefox and
ended up confusing myself.

[tw] over-ride (or modify title of) javascript alert?

2008-11-02 Thread roger

How do I make it so that the alert window which opens when leaving/
closing a TW with unsaved saved changes? I'd prefer if the title in
the window read "Confirm" instead of "[javascript application]".
Similar to the way TiddlyVault and TiddlyTools are set up.

Also, I have Eric's ConfirmExitPlugin installed. How can I make the
option buttons read "Leave this page" and "Stay on this page" instead
of "OK" and "Cancel"?

[tw] Re: Sharing a TW over a local network

2008-11-01 Thread roger

Kevin,
We make extensive use of TW's at my office and TiddlyLock is a
necessity for us.
Occasionally a user will be locked out of a TW when they shouldn't be,
but their are only two types of events that seem to be connected to
that problem.
We have the SetUserName plugin installed that checks the username and
if it's still set as YourName, then the user is prompted to enter
their username when they try to create or edit a tiddler. However, if
you're running tiddlylock, then the username in TW.lck gets set to
YourName, so entering a username as requested by the SetUserName
prompt, the user ends up being locked out of the TW by YourName.
Fortunately, that's not a recurring type of problem.

The more common situation we've run into is that some type of problem
occurs when saving the file. Once the TW is put into edit mode,
the .lck file is updated with the necessary information (timestamp and
username). If for some reason the file isn't saved after the edit,
then .lck never gets updated. We have autosave turned on and
ConfirmExitPlugin to assist in making sure that if a TW has been
modified, that the updated TW is saved. But if a user ignores the
prompts or a browser session crashes or something else happens that
results in the TW not being saved, then the .lck file has to be
deleted or at least the username has to be deleted from the .lck
file's content.

As for explaining to other users how to correct the problem if a TW is
locked when it shouldn't be, you could include a tiddler that explains
the solution and add it to the menu of the TW. I suppose you could
also create a batch file that deletes the .lck when it's messed up and
access the batch file with a tiddler using LaunchApplicationPlugin.
Deleting the .lck file could just be a click away. Of course, that
could be put to use when the TW really is being edited by another
user, which would frustrate the purpose of using TiddlyLock in the
first place.

[tw] Re: Firefox 2.0.16 blocking IncludePlugin functionality?

I gave disabling extentions a try and it didn't change anything. I
checked with another TW that's running TW core 2.4.1 and the included
tiddlers are not showing up in that TW either, although they do if I
view the TW file with Google Chrome.

[tw] Re: Firefox 2.0.16 blocking IncludePlugin functionality?

2008-10-30 Thread roger

Wolfgang,
I upgraded Firefox to 2.0.0.17 and checked one of my TW's again. In
Google Chrome the Included TW's tiddlers show up. But in Firefox they
don't. Since IncludePlugin works for you, I agree that there must be
another reason why IncludePlugin isn't working properly for me in
Firefox. Any idea what else could cause a situation where
IncludePlugin works with some browsers, but not others?

[tw] Firefox 2.0.16 blocking IncludePlugin functionality?

2008-10-28 Thread roger

I have a TW that I include into several other TW's using the
IncludePlugin. I have an IncludeList tiddler in the TW's that
references the TW that's to be included when the the TW's load.

TW core 2.2.5
IncludePlugin 1.0.1

This has been working fine for several months. Recently I noticed
that the TW referenced by the IncludeList tiddler is no longer being
included. Upon further investigation I discovered that:

If I use Chrome the included TW is present.
If I use Firefox 2.0.14 or earlier, the included TW is present.
If I use Firefox 2.0.16 or IE 7.0 the included TW isn't there.

I primarily use Firefox so the fact that the IncludePlugin isn't
working in IE 7.0 doesn't really bother me.

Is there a fix for this?

[tw] Re: TW disappears after error saving file

2008-10-26 Thread roger

Thanks Wolfgang,
I may just wait to see if some kind of pattern emerges that helps
narrow down the potential cause of this. We have multiple users
accessing multiple TW's, but any given TW may only be modified 4 or 5
times a month. Or, I guess I can work with a test copy of a TW using
all the same plugins and see if I can replicate the problem then start
disabling plugins on the test TW.

[tw] Re: TW disappears after error saving file

2008-10-25 Thread roger

The OS is WinXP. Also, I'm using the LessBackupsPlugin and the
TiddlyLockPlugin. I don't know if those plugins might play a role in
the problem or not.

I read the suggestions at the link you provided. However, the problem
is so random that I don't think it's something I can track down that
way. The TW's all run the same plugins, they operate perfectly fine
nearly all the time, the only exception is when one of them
"evaporates" during a save. It seems strange to me when I have
an .html file that contains ~ 800 kb of information, then in the
course of saving changes to that file, I end up with an .html file
that contains 0 bytes. I don't know what could cause the loss of all
the data in a file.

[tw] TW disappears after error saving file

2008-10-24 Thread roger

I have several TW's (ver. 2.2.5) installed and stored on a network
drive. I work with the files using Firefox 2.0.x. Autosave is turned
on. Sometimes after adding a new tiddler (which activates the
autosave) the save procedure fails for some reason. If that failure
only resulted in the loss of the new tiddler that was just added, it
wouldn't be that bad.

However, when this particular error happens, the entire contents of
the TW file are gone. I'm left with an empty html file. If I open
the file in Notepad, there's literally nothing in the file. Is this
just an inherent risk associated with TW or am I experiencing a unique
problem?

I do have auto backups turned on as well and can recover a version of
the TW as it existed prior to the file saving failure, although
generally the most recent auto backup file is also an empty file.

[tw] Can't open subfolders from table generated by ShowLocalDirectory script

2008-10-19 Thread roger

I have Eric's ShowLocalDirectory script installed. If I use the
script without any filepath parameters i.e. <> then I can navigate within the table to any
parent or child folders in the local directory.

If I use the script with a localpath parameter to display the contents

Is it possible to navigate to parent and child folders when displaying

[tw] Re: Plugin for displaying tagged tiddlers in a table?

2008-10-19 Thread roger

That's awesome Eric. However, the script would only include the body
of the tiddlers if the tiddler title was in wiki format. So a tiddler
titled "MyNotes" would have the body of the tiddler inserted into the
table, but a tiddler titled "My Notes" would only contain the title.

Despite my utter lack of javascript knowledge I know they say that
even a blind squirrel will find a nut sometimes, so I tried

var fmt="| %0 |%1: <>| %2 |\n";

and that fixed the problem.

Is it possible to code the script so that the tiddlers are displayed
in descending order (newest to oldest) in the table?

[tw] Plugin for displaying tagged tiddlers in a table?

2008-10-17 Thread roger

I'd like to display certain tagged tiddlers in a table in the
following format, rather than sequentially as individual tiddlers (as
would happen if I select "Open All" with the OpenTaggedTiddlers
plugin).

--
| Date | Body |
Author|
--
| Date Tiddler Created | Tiddler Title: Tiddler body | Tiddler Author
|
--

(The text in the "Body" column would need to be able to wrap.)

Is there a plugin that already provides this kind of capability, or is
it more a matter of modifying the stylesheet?
