Re: [TMIC] Unidentified subject!

2015-01-28 Thread Pat
Dalton,
I will be having my bone density test soon. I've had osteopenia since before
TM and developed jaw bone problems after one of the early osteo drugs given to
women years ago. I think that med was removed from the market and I have
gently refused any of the new meds since. I'll have to make a decision again
when my new PCP gets my report. However, I'll feel more comfortable discussing
it this time, because I chose a female doctor who may also face the same
decision as she ages. Keep us informed and if anything changes I'll post an
update.

Everybody,
I had the baclofen Pump inserted in June 2013. Before the pump could be
inserted I first had to do a trial at the hospital to determine if the pump was
right for me. My neuro felt that the banding in my legs is caused by spasticity
and not weakness. The reason I went with the pump is because I could not
tolerate taking baclofen orally. To cut to the chase .I am considering
removing the pump because the dosage required to help the banding also has
caused me to have heart palpitations, nausau and a feeling of bloatedness. In
addition it has made me lose my appetite causing me to lose 30 lbs. This is
after my doing all possible due diligence.
Therefore even though the pump has somewhat improved my banding the side
effects eliminate the positives.
God I hate TM

 Subject: Re: [TMIC] Unidentified subject!

 Friends,

I am doing alright, but have developed new problems related to osteopenia,
which is thinning of bones, and one step before osteoporosis.

I have cracked a vertebrae—L2—and this causes discomfort. But the real
problem is my right hip, which just sings a deep pain all up and down my leg.
Also, at night I seemed to have developed restless leg syndrome or something
of the sort, because it is impossible to get comfortable, and now I don’t
sleep more than about 45 minutes at a time.

My PCP suggested, after looking at x-rays, an MRI, and a bone density scan,
that I try Prolia, an injection given in the Dr’s office every 6 months, for
bone health. It is very pricy and the copay is stiff.

Has anyone had experience taking any kind of osteo medicine, and what were
 the side effects?

 Thanks,
 Dalton

I have never really been bothered by banding - sometimes I can feel it,
but really no problem. My worst problem is spondolosis/arthritis down
low in my back that is aggravated by TM. Also, the never
going down the backs of my calves. That can knock me to the floor when it
hits. Otherwise, I'm pretty good.

Dear Friends
While things are so quiet, thought I would share with you the awful fright I
suffered this week. I was aware of some discomfort in my back on Monday last,
which quite quickly progressed to excruciating pain and difficulty even moving.
I feared TM had taken another hit at me, this time further down my spine.
Flat on my back, fearing the worst, it dawned on me that I could move my legs
quite freely while prone and therefore could NOT be the b*d TM! The
relief!! Total rest and anti-inflammatory medication have now seen a big
improvement and I'm tending to think I did some damage hauling myself into my
husband's Grand Cherokee when we went out on the Sunday. There's no chance he
will swap his pride and joy for something more suitable so I've compromised (
as we women do) and ordered a step to assist - a tad undignified but, then,
that went out the window when TM flew in!

room for wheel chair, walker, etc.It really is hard to get in if you are
short and, I cannot boost since TM, so it makes it harder.I am
assuming none of us can boost any more. What about it? Can any of you

I had no idea you were involved with TMIC in that capacity. I never knew
that about you. Surprise, surprise!

I am trying to get people involved with us and am struggling to come up
with things to discuss. You say that you try to make sure that topics are
not talked about over and over, but it's hard to come up with things that are
new. What am I supposed to do.

At least there are a few more people writing in now. Or is it only that I
have just come back? Have people been writing back and forth that you
know of? Please let me know.

I appreciate your attention.

Hi Jude,
No, it has nothing to do with getting spammed. I live on the computer. I
do all my work on the computer, I build computers, create the websites,
proofread all the TMA articles, etc. I know how to get rid of spam. It is just
a matter of hitting the delete button.
I have been part of the original tmic list almost since the first emails
started going back and forth, back in January, 1997. I have watched people
sign up with the list, I have watched people die on the list, I have to talk
to people with TM on the phone and internet every single day. That is
part of my job. I also have met my closest and dearest friends because of the
tmic list.
I have monitored the list for 16 years. When there is objectionable
material, I notify the proper people, and those emails are deleted so that
others
who may search the archives for information will not read the
objectionable material. I also know that every time an infected email enters
my
computer (one that has a virus), it has come from somebody on the list who has
had their address book hacked. So, when these emails come in to the list, we
simply unsubscribe them from the list, so that they are unable to send any
more emails to the list until they get their computers fixed. Once they
realize that they have not received tmic list emails, it has probably been
after they have removed their viruses, and they resubscribe. So, notifying
everybody on the list is really just not necessary.
I just know when to sit back and not get involved and have learned from my
own personal bad experiences when to back off so as not to get insulted by
people who think I am “butting in” too much.
I also know that some of the same problems and issues that people are
experiencing have been discussed and discussed over and over, and people
neglect to take advantage of all the wealth of information that has been
stored
in the archives from all the previous email conversations over the past 16
years, and if they are not going to read all the valuable information,
rather ask the same questions over and over on the list, why bother trying to
explain again?
Anyway, I am sorry that I have created such a long email, but I just
wanted you to understand where I am coming from, and it has nothing to do with
you, just “experience” has taught me to stay in the background.
Take care,
Debbie

Hello Jude,
First, thank you for not copying the list with my email and private

protected
with anti-virus software, thus their computers are repeatedly hacked. Also,
some people have the option marked “automatically add all people to
address book”, so my email address gets entered into all these anonymous
computers, and when they get a virus, I (and hundreds of other people) receive
an
infected email.
If people wish to be on the internet, they should be responsible for
protecting their own computers from these infections, and when one person
sends
an infected email to the list, suddenly about 20 people will send an email
to the list that they need to ignore all messages sent by that one person
because it is infected. So, I figure that eventually people will “get it”

[TMIC] Unidentified subject!

2010-09-16 Thread john snodgrass
To Emily and her Husband.

TM truely is a shock to all involved.
I mean, who would ever imagine this would happen.

one of my Doc's said TM was something you looked at in med school but never
seen
it.

my neurologist said all you can do is treat the symptoms and do what you can
when you can as hard as you can but if you can't then just rest until you can.

He incourages physical theropy and well should because the parts effected can
go
to sleep,so to speak, and thats another world of hurt!

tell hubby to talk with us,,you talk with us,,,we are interested more than
anybody in how he is doing be it good or unpleasnt as well as how you are
standing up under this new world you are in!

these people have encouraged me more than I can thank them for,,just being
people who truely understand what I have and am suffering.

we all have the hardness of this thing and understand more than anyone
elsewe live it with you!

my name is John.
I live in WV
I am the hill-billy of the bunch ;)

Subject: [TMIC] New to TM

Hi Everyone,

My husband has recently (September 2nd) been diagnosed with Idiopathic TM.  He
was treated at Pennsylvania Hospital under the care of a team of Neurologists.
He was given mega doses of Prednisone and is currently weaning with oral
prednisone.  He was discharged from the hospital last Thursday and he is now
working hard at an acute rehabilitation center (3-5 hours each day).   He has a
very positive outlook and is “taking it one day at a time”.

My question is this……is there a support group for spouses of TM?

My right leg was/is weaker than my left also. I have had TM for over 3
years now and I know what you are saying when you feel
one leg is shorter than the other.I don't think that is happening, but I
catch myself feeling that way and then I really straighten up
tall and the feeling goes away. I think we tend to lean one way or the
other according to weaknesses.I try to always stand as
straight as I can - especially when noticing the lean toward the right.
Also, pain and weakness can be coming from the hamstring

on the right side. Lots of stretching helps that. Hope I helped.

RE: [TMIC] Unidentified subject!

2010-09-10 Thread Janet Dunn
Yes, I used to feel that way, I really did. However, I took about 3 years
of Rolfing and or Massage Therapy treatments - and some of them were very
painful. That really helped my legs feel and work better. In fact, I
attribute my current ability to walk very well most days to all of the
treatments I took.

It did cost a bundle, and it did hurt a ton. However, now I don't have that
feeling, I can walk quite well, and my right side seems to feel better.
Although it has been 6 months since my last massage, and I can feel the
thing in my body starting to reach it's tendrils out again and begin to
strangle my leg and torso. Time to get going again on the massage thing.
We have lost our best rolfer in town, and I am hesitant to try to find
another - simply because the treatment is very intense and personal.

Try massage, or as has been suggested already - stretching exercises; if
you don't use it, somehow, you will lose it.

Hi,
My right leg is shorter since tm.
It seems that while in rehab,I locked my left knee by hyperextending it.
This caused it to stretch out the tendon and my left leg is now about 1 inch
longer than the right. If they had given me a brace, this would not have
happened.
My left is the weaker leg, although if I'm walking it's the right one that
gives.

Steve,

Some people have switched to Lyrica from the Neurontin/Gabapentin. Some find
it works better and some switch back to the Neurontin. I know there are other
meds out there that some people use too so I'm sure they will chime in here to
let you know.

I have found that Lyrica works very well for that, at 75mg b.i.d. I am up
to 150 twice a day now, and that is even better.

I agree. Go to a nursing home spend a little time with some of those folks.
Talk with the staff. Most of them have family, they just never go visit. Out of

Steve, Sorry to hear that you've experienced marital problems. With TM or any
other life altering event there is a lot of stress. Stress kills. It kills
people, marriages, hope, understanding and love. Your right that being a good
father is the important thing. But you've got to remember that requires taking
care of your self. Have you thought about seeking help? Seeing a therapist? Is
there a single parents group in your area? Your church?

Many years ago I was writing a paper on persons with spinal cord injury and
relationships. I don't remember the exact numbers but I was surprised to find
out that when it is the male that is injured, the relationship usually ends
within the first 18 months. Something like 70% of the time. But when it is the
female, only about 8% of the relationships end during the same time frame.
Hmm

I know that doesn't help much but it does show that it may not have been you.
It was the TM.

Get out, find someone that cares. Your the captain of your boat.

Boy of boy Candis, you hit the nail right on the head. Fight of Flight
response, for sure, and I think you're also right about most people choosing
the flight response. Years ago I used to go to Lupus group meetings at one of
the hospitals in downtown Seattle. My husband actually went with me once, and
the next time I went all the ladies came up to me and said you're still
married? - ALL of their husbands left! There were about 45 or so of us who
went regularly and we were all in our 30's and 40's. I was absolutely shocked.

Hi Steven,
It's the one year anniversary of my TM attack and I was affected at
C4-C5. I guess it would qualify as a semi acute attack as my symptoms
developed slowly and I never lost mobility or even urinary/bowel
control though it does take more effort these days, what I did develop
was neuropathic pain from the chest down: feels like I'm being
electrocuted 24/7. My pain has never improved and is not likely to and
my balance is poor.

To avoid burning sensation I have given up all soda and limit juice to
a small cup a day. I find I can handle coffee if I drink a lot of
water. I also take vitamin C at night to acidify the urine and reduce
my chances of developing an infection. Hope this helps..

I also have this electric pain and I have had it long before my dx of TM. I
tell doctors about this and they just look at me like I am an idiot. I've not
hear of other TM'rs talk about this type of pain before. It is my single most
disturbing aspect of the condition. This week, while I was working with
students (I teach) I had an intense shock hit me in my lower back and across my
gluts left and right from my spine - it hit so hard that I yelled out - which
shocked everyone - I was about to explain when it hit again - and again and
agian - all i could do was sit down and griemence. I usually get these in my
chest and I've had them since about 19years of age. my neuro psyc says that I
am a hypercondriac. - well, call me whatever - just get rid of the d*( pain!

Have you learned WHY the electric pain - obviously no one has told you how to
get rid of it - but i sure would like to find that out too

  thanks for sharing

Hi Steven,
It is good to have you write although having TM is the reason you did so.

I, too, am affected from my chest down (I think my lesion is at C-3) but did
not lose my breathing. My neurologist said my lesion location was very close
to having put me on a ventilator. My bladder also has been affected but is
manageable. I used a cane briefly but no longer do. April, 2004 was my onset
date.

I'm sure you will meet others on this list with various degrees of symptoms-I
consider myself very fortunate compared to several. I, too have the burning
you spoke of and also have fatigue.

We are glad you wrote.

Hi Steven,

Welcome to the TM Family I'm glad you found us, and I think you will find
that we all have a lot in common. I have had TM for 6 years now and was also
affected from my chest down, lesions at
C 4,5 6. I have gotten most of the feeling back and I do use a cane. I have
bladder problems too - I have to self-cath several times a day. I still have
great hopes that I won't have to do that forever! And that burning - isn't it
awful. If I might ask, where are your lesions and what medications do you take
to help with the symptoms you are dealing with? You were very fortunate to be
treated by Dr. Kerr. Do you live close enough that you are still able to see
him on a regular basis?

I'm just full of questions. We're glad you wrote and looking forward to
hearing from you soon.

Frank,

I used to love Amways products. Soap, cleaning aids, just everything. Their
degreaser was fantastic. Bought it for years, But once we moved, couldn't
find a salesman. I'd buy it in a heartbeat if I knew where to find it.

Grace,

Try the white pages, under Amway.

Or try the Amway Web Site

OK, I apologize for being so hasty for answering before even reading what
all the talk was about. I really am sorry...I was recently called a syndrome
all on my own and maybe I am.

What is the name of the product, I missed the initial email?

Peace,

Re: [TMIC] Unidentified subject!

2007-08-31 Thread Westgold
Hello Robert everybody. I have been wanting to talk to you all about this
topic Robert brought up. As you know, I do not have TM, I joined this list
because my closest friend has it. I have sarcoidosis and very bad
arthritis, and I am practically housebound. I haven't been able to go out
to work since 1981, and have been forced to make a living from home (sitting
down). I tried a lot of different things, including writing for magazines,
writing books, and I had a mail order business for 25 years. But I didn't
make that much money until I started working on the internet about 9 years
ago. It took me a while to figure it all out, but now I am making almost
$10,000 a month on the web. I would be very happy to help any of you get a
good business started, and teach you exactly how to do it. I'm a very good
sponsor, and very sensitive to your situation since I am disabled too. I
don't know how some of you live on disability payments, that wouldn't even
be enough to pay my rent. I have been doing more than one business, but one
is *really* hot right now, so I am concentrating on it. To come in the
regular way, where you would earn a minimum of $500 for each person you
bring in, the cost to get started would be $720. If you cannot swing that,
I do need some helpers, people to make phone calls for me, to invite
guests to a live call where they can learn about the opportunity. I already
have two helpers, but I can use an unlimited number. I pay a commission of
50% of whatever the person pays me to come in -- so that would be $250, $750
or $1750 for you when someone you find signs up with me. You wouldn't have
to pay anything to be my helper, but you would have to have a flat-rate long
distance plan, as you'll be calling people all over north America. The best
one I could find was from Sprint, only $20 a month for unlimited north
American calls. If you don't like making phone calls, I have a couple other
businesses where you wouldn't have to do that, but I wouldn't be able to
bring you into any of those for no upfront money. But I'll be very happy to
help anyone who would like to get a good internet business going -- If you
are interested, please drop me a line at [EMAIL PROTECTED] .

take care -- Michelle
