Re: [SlimDevices: Touch] Will Neil Young's PONO be the next SBT
I'm always on the look out for the next thing. I love my SBT/VBA combo but worry about obselesnce or my SBT dying. Everytime I read a review about a digital streamer/music server I'm thinking this is the answer, but then I see the expensive price tag. Maybe later versions of the PONO will stream and have a USB or digital out for our DACS. I read an interview where Neil stated there would be an audiophile version of the PONO in the future. When I first heard about the PONO last year there wasn't any info about formats etc. I didn't believe it would ever come to fruition, it seems it may now. I'm still wondering about the Olive One also. tmauceri's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=41450 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=101167 ___ Touch mailing list Touch@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/touch

If my head unit would play flacs from hard drives, I wouldn't be thinking about this. I considered a mobridge product with an ipod that would let my head unit control the music. However, I don't think I can get everything to fit on an ipod unless I tried to hack it to run off a larger hard drvie. Other thoughts were to buy a used phatbox and hack it to accept a larger hard drive. The touch seems ideally suited, except for the challenge of finding a good place to mount it.You could use a 64G iPod Touch running the FLAC Player App. That would let you have about 190 FLAC encoded CDs at your disposal. Re: [SlimDevices: Touch] 7.6.1 issue with tags.
I found my problem, it turns out that most of my compilations did not have a compilation tag. This is an extended tag that is not displayed in the main window of MP3Tag. I examined the comps that were displayed under Various Artists and some that were not. The difference was a compilation tag with a value of 1. I then spent 2 hours adding a compilation tag to about 70 albums, did a clear and rescan and all the comps showed up under Various Artists. Backed up the VBA and all is well again. [SlimDevices: Touch] 7.6.1 issue with tags.
I have a SBT with VBA. I have set up my database so that all compilations are listed as Various Artists. I have close to 100 of these ripped in FLAC(mostly by the VBA some by EAC) and edited with MP3Tag, when editing was needed to conform with my database. Prior to my 7.6.1 upgade all of these titles showed up under Various Artists, after the upgrade about 1/3 of them show up under Various Artists. If I sort by albums they are all there, but not associated with any Artist. Artwork is all there also. I looked at a few of the no shows with MP3Tag and the Artist is listed as Various Artist, so the Artist tag looks fine. I Know 7.6.1 is more tag sensitive than previous versions but I can't determine what I need to fix. I have done many clear and rescans, it doesn't fix the problem. I have noticed that before the upgrade a clear and rescan took about 20 min. After the upgade it is more like 5 min. I was wondering if the SBT isn't doing a full Clear and rescan??? We know if I want to edit any Flac files you must go the VBA/files/music/flac route. If you try to acces through the VBA/music/flac route you can not edit files they are protected. I believe the SBS accesses the music via the music/flac route which is why the flac files can't be compromised since they are protected. I created a playlist folder, VBA/file/music/playlist, playlist folder shows up in either the VBA/file/music/playlist or VBA/music/playlist. you cannot create a folder via the VBA/music route. in the SBS settings, playlists folder you cannot browes to the VBA/files/music/playlist only the VBA/music/playlist since this is protected the SBT cannot save playlist. -- tmauceri tmauceri's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=41450 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=88270 ___ Touch mailing list Touch@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/touch

Then in SbS, I tell it in settings under my music tab to group compilations together and also on that page I tell it to call these groupings Compilations instead of the default of various artists. This way, in my ARTIST listings I don't see the hundreds of artists that only appear in compilations. Instead I have a list of compilations under artists and if I click on this, I see a listing of all the compilation albums (soundtracks, etc.). But search this forum on the keyword compilation and you'll see lots of very detailed discussion. For example, Mr. Sinatra has lots of useful posts. I get what you are saying. I am putting comps under various artists. This works if the individual artist is listed in the song title and the artist is listed as Various Artist. If it isn't I edit it that way. Re: [SlimDevices: Touch] Newbie with Questions for the Experts
Yesterday I found 2 copies of the same album in my database, on the VBA, that weren't there the day before. The album was by Unknown Hinson, a country type novelty singer/persona. I did not rip this cd on my VBA, I don't even own it, I had never even heard of this artist before. I did rip a couple of DVD-A's using DVD Audio Extractor and 2 cd singles using EAC. I used mp3Tag for the DVD-A material and the data search in EAC for the singles. My question is how did this album get on my VBA? Did I access some data base with a trojan horse type of program. Have any of you had this happen before? -- tmauceri tmauceri's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=41450 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=83244 ___ Touch mailing list Touch@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/touch

Re: [SlimDevices: Touch] Newbie with Questions for the Experts
I've been using DVD Audio Extractor to rip flac files in there native resolution from DVD-A discs I own, in stereo of course. I read in one of the forums, this one or AVS, That the SBT will play back DD or DTS files in 5.1 as long as they are decoded and ripped to flac. These files would be 24/48. I know optical or coax out can support this resolution, but hadn't read anything about the SBT being able to play multi-channel media. So I ripped Donald Fagen's The Nightfly in 5.1 24/48 and tried playing it through the SBT, but all I got was stereo in and out. Will the SBT support 5.1 as long as the Rez doesn't exceed 24/48 or 5.1 at all? -- tmauceri tmauceri's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=41450 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=83244 ___ Touch mailing list Touch@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/touch

#1 Does EAC or DBpoweramp produce a better FLAC file than the VBA(I think it uses ripit?) or do they just provide many more options? #2 When VBA doesn't come back with artwork. I will find it, rename it and place it in the appropriate folder, files/music/flac, on the VBA. Then I update the SB Server. This is where I'm a bit confused. I always get the the artwork to show up on the SB touch and on iPeng(on my iPad). But I'm unclear of the precise route. For instance, under settings in the SB server when you rescan do I use, look for new and changed music or clear library and rescan everything. Clear and Rescan everything seems to always work, but takes a few minutes. New and changed music works sometimes. and sometimes the VBA updating the server after ripping a different disk seems to work. Comments welcome.
