Re: [SlimDevices: Unix] PicorePlayer for Allo network players and LMS servers

JP,
I have both of these Allo DACs -
https://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?114490-Allo-has-a-new-streamer-Boss2
-
The Boss 2 display and remote are not much use to me. I use the
Raspberry Pi 7" display and Jivelite on my PiCorePlayers (except the
Boss2 which is controlled by a second pCP and 7" screen).
The 7" screen and pCP is a winner. I have LMS on a Vortexbox server -
Fedora and headless.

2021-06-21 Thread Wirrunna

epoch1970,
I reflashed the SD card to pCP 7, 32 bit, installed in a rP1 4b and went
through the updates and setup and it works as you said.
Once more the 64 bit pCP 7 is not quite up to speed (my Allo Boss2
initially needed pCP 7 32 bit to work) no big deal.

>From a former life in IT project management I would suggest that there
is too much variation creeping in, stick with only one flavour of pCP.
The Raspberry OS is only in 32bit.

Very convenient to have a WAP on my bench that also plays music and can
be powered off at the mains rather than having to SSH in and sudo
shutdown.

Paul, again, thank you for getting this going and if you need testing ,
just ask.

Re: [SlimDevices: Unix] PiCorePlayer and wifi Access Point in Bridge mode

2021-06-21 Thread Wirrunna

I tried a rPi 3b and was able to get that to work, sort of. My laptop
could see the test network but not connect. WiFi Analyzer showed the
SSID but the signal level seemed to drop after a few minutes. Had
another go with the rPi 4b, still no luck.

Googled Raspberry Pi wifi Access Point and found
https://www.raspberrypi.org/documentation/configuration/wireless/access-point-bridged.md
, so downloaded the latest rPi OS (not called Raspbian anymore) flashed
it to a spare card and set it up on the rPi 4b. Worked first go.

Now, where are the config files that are set up on piCorePlayer ?

I clicked the update box. There is a 7" Official Touch screen attached

could not connect from my PC on 192.168.2.20 without stuffing about

Re: [SlimDevices: Unix] PiCorePlayer and wifi Access Point in Bridge mode

2021-06-19 Thread Wirrunna

Well, I can't get AP to work.
New RPi 4b, new SD card with new download of pCP 7, 64 bit.

After booting,
1. Patch update and reboot
2. Minor update, now 7.0.1 - pCP4b-113-HFD | piCorePlayer v7.0.1 | www
v00015 | linux 5.4.83-pcpCore-v8 | piCore v12.0pCP | Squeezelite
v1.9.8-1287-pCP

click Beta bottom tab on Main page

3. WiFi Settings, WAP Mode, Install, then Update which brings down a new
readline.tcz , installs it and reboots.

Message on the screen "To setup piCorePlayer, use ..

That stuffs me, so, start again, reformat SD card etc and set Bridge
Mode and AP IP Address of 192.168.1.1 ( my LAN is 192.168.2.1 ) and then
Update AP Mode. Still doesn't work , but at least I can get in to the
piCorePlayer.

My understanding of Bridge Mode is that it will take the network range
via the ethernet cable, so shouldn't the AP IP Address be greyed out if
Bridge Mode is Yes ?

Still can't get AP mode working.

cpd73,
Python had to be added for a new pCP player, as detailed in this thread

https://audiophilestyle.com/forums/topic/62599-allo-boss2-player-question/comments?ct=1619175608

here are the commands to add python
piCorePlayer v7.0.0 onwards :
-
Resize FS on webGUI

ssh login with user tc Password piCore

tce-load -wi python3.8-Pillow.tcz
tce-load -wi python3.8-smbus.tcz
tce-load -wi python3.8-rpi-gpio.tcz
tce-load -wi iproute2.tcz

sudo su

I don't know if the iproute2.tcz is needed but this should get you
python.

davemal, thank you for the update, I am also having trouble with the new
VB release.

Do you use MusicIP ? VB's setup scripts make installing Plex, MusicIP
etc really simple. JohnB has posted InguzEQ install instructions for
Ubuntu that also works with VB.

What is the directory structure that SnakeOil uses? The VB use of Vol
Groups makes adding extra storage simple, interested to see how SnakeOil
handles that.

Re: [SlimDevices: Unix] replacement for Vortexbox -suggestions

2019-03-05 Thread Wirrunna

davemal, I share your concern about Vortexbox. It is such a convenient
no-frills distro for LMS that I'm sticking with it but keeping an eye
out for other platforms.
I have updated to Fedora 27
(https://www.vortexbox.org/forum/main-forum/1415-fedora-security-updates-only-on-newer-releases/page3)
and all the LMS plugins just work - MusicIP, InguzEQ, Music Artist Info
etc. Plex new versions also just work on Fedora 27.

I use Clonezilla to load new hardware builds as the old Vortexbox USB
install doesn't recognize the new hardware.

Please report your experience with Snakeoil-Os. From their web site it
appears to be a cut down Ubuntu distro but no mention of LMS or MusicIP
that I could see.

Mark, are you using the RPi internal WiFi or a dongle ? The internal
WiFi is poor in the RPi2B, but for not much more than a good WiFi dongle
you could get an RPi3 B+ or for $10 less, a RPi3A+ - the WiFi in these
is excellent and the 5GHz throughput is supposedly faster than ethernet
according to
https://soundcheck-audio.blogspot.com/2018/10/rpi-3b-on-air.html#more .

paul- and huxmut,
Just built a brand new out of the box player, 7" official touch screen,
RPi3B+ and TeraDak ES9023 and used the method as described. Wireless
fired up and the IP address stayed on the RPi screen making it simple to
point a browser at pCp and configure. Now to add soundcheck's tweaks
and lower the power draw as the RPi internal WiFi means there is no need
for a USB dongle.

Thank you.

How did you get it connected to the network ?

No ethernet port, so did you take a working SD card from a RPi3B and
just plug it in and boot ?
Or do you have to hook a keyboard and screen to it.

I have used Inguz EQ as an LMS plugin for years, but having a DSP
function in a RPi player may be simpler.
Using REW with a squeezebox to determine Parametric Equaliser Settings
(PEQ) is described in this post:
https://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?77084-RC-(Inguz-etc-)=904176=1#post904176

You could probably use REW to determine SOX equalisation settings and
apply them to the SOX graphic equaliser function.

Greg,
1. If you could include the paste URL in your post it will make it
easier for us to find- not quite sure where that URL comes from, must be
from Pastebin, I will look out for it next time.
2. When you first did the 3.5.0 to 4.0.0-b5 upgrade and it didn't
connect, did you try multiple reboots? - yes, first by cycling power,
then when I had connected an ethernet cable I selected reboot on the
front page.
3. the wifi passphrase with this release of pCP. It is only generated if
you use the [Wifi settings] web page - I note that while the SSID and
the Password are populated on the settings page, if you only enter the
Country Code then you are asked to enter the SSIS, Password and Country
Code.
4. You have an interesting collection of SSIDs in your area. Are the 7
"dog" SSIDs on the same wifi router? Yes, the neighbouring houses are
weekenders and rarely occupied and when my children and their friends
would come to stay there was always a hassle with passwords so I added
"guest" networks with their respective network name and passwords. The
dd-wrt is from a sloppily configured router in our attached cottage.
5. I note that there is no "Ping LMS test" info. Is that normal for you?
No, there is normally Ping LMS test info, but the server may have been
off.

Now, I regard this not carrying the SSID and password through a major
upgrade as a minor "nice to have" that can be fixed in the fullness of
time, not a showstopper.

connected, so uploaded EiFi diag page to Pastebin, so that is the 3rd

The only difference that I could see was PSK Passphrase was populated
when I entered the details manually.

I saved the 3.5 SD card image so it is easy to restore the SD and try
again.

Paul and Greg, just tried this new image upgrade from 3.5 to 4, didn't

So, I have uploaded wifi diag to Pastebin, first from the pCP I just
upgraded where wifi doesn't work, then from a pCP that I upgraded the

Will investigate further.

Heads up for wireless in-situ updates - there are extra parameters to be
entered requiring a wired connection before the piCorePlayer will
connect to the network using the wifi dongle.

Apart from that, two upgrades went amazingly smoothly, it also was
simpler than the 3.50 upgrade as I didn't have to load Squeezelite.

So, pCP Team you have won another Gold Star.

Have you got access to the router setup? 'cause if you have, setup a
"guest" wifi network without the '&' in the SSID and you can get the
piCorePlayer to connect, then when the player is fixed you can delete
the "guest" network.
I did this to get my piCorePlayers to connect to the 5GHz instead of
2.4Ghz network as the Pi seems to connect to 2.4GHz first and ignore the
5Ghz network, so I set up a "guest" wifi network, same SSID with 5
appended, then told the Pi to connect to SSID 5. Works, uncluttered the
2.4GHz network and the piCorePlayers are out there with the Nexus and
iThingys on 5GHz.

The EDIMAX EW-7811UTC (AC600) arrived a few minutes ago, after
struggling with the child / tamper proof packaging I unplugged my test
pCP (RPi 2b, Kali Reclocker, ES9023 DAC pCP 7" screen 3.22 Audio) and
swapped the Ratlink Wi-Pi for the Edimax and plugged it back in. The
startup messages on the screen showed it connected to WiFi and a check

Greg, just updated another rP1 2, kali reclocker with a Mambo ES9023 DAC
with 7" screen using Ratlink WiPi . I did the update over WiFi and it
worked flawlessly, then did the JiveLite update and after the inevitable
reboot all was working so did not have to power cycle. The first one lit
the screen in white until I rebooted, just an anomaly.

Slightly off topic, are there any 5Ghz USB WiFi dongles that work?

Worked fine, had to Update Jivelite and power cycle to get screen

Well done pCP team.

3 RPi 2 pCP's updated in-situ from 3.20 to 3.21 Audio. I confirm that
Wi-Fi now works for Ratlink WiPi devices on the Audio build - (Ralink
Technology, Corp. RT5370 Wireless Adapter)

First update I removed Jivelite and in-situ updated pCP then
re-installed Jivelite. (I couldn't remember the exact in-situ update
procedure!)
Next two updates I left Jivelite in place, in-situ updated pCP and then
updated Jivelite.

All 3 players have Allo re-clockers, 2 have generic ESS9023 DACs, one
has a MamboBerry DAC.

Again, well done, the informative screen messages during the update tell
the user what is downloading or loading. An excellent update.

I think you mean when you touch a cover from say New Music a track list
opens up. If you do a "long touch" to a cover a menu opens which
includes add to end, play next, play ...

Touching a cover when playing cycles through the vu meter, spectrum
analyzer etc.

This action can't be altered (without a big re-write) as it is how the
Squeezebox Touch works.

The point is that if someone really wants to make a pCPlayer wifi then
there is a list of dongles that work with 3.20 basic and audio, so their
options are to provide diag details and wait for a fix, obtain a dongle
that is listed as working or revert to a version that worked with their
dongle. Net result is it eases pressure on the pCP team.

In my case, the Ratlink 5370 HiFi Berry dongles that I have had since my
first pCPlayer have more than payed for themselves and If I knew which
dongle works with 3.20 audio I would buy one of those. In the meantime I
can run 3.20 standard or revert to 3.11 Audio as those versions run with
the Ratlink 5370 dongle.

pCP Team, WiFi dongle issues are a recurring theme with new releases,
probably because of the vast number of dongles available.
Listing a "preferred " hardware set is probably not a good call as other
projects found out in the past, but there is already a very handy table
of WiFi Dongles -
https://sites.google.com/site/picoreplayer/wifi-dongles .

May I suggest / request that the pCP team update this for new releases
with the dongles that work? Then when a report of wifi not working is
made a standard reply could be "Refer to
https://sites.google.com/site/picoreplayer/wifi-dongles for WiFi dongles
that have been proved to work with the new release. Other dongles will
be added in the fullness of time."

Paul, your FYI intrigued me, I admit to not noticing that option until

saving a bit of fiddling with 2 power supplies for one device.

http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?103330-Jivelite-for-piCorePlayer=859683=1#post859683
.

The "word" files are .png with a transparent surround, and the coloured
clock is more interesting than the battleship gray of the original.

For my own use I modified Arie's instructions such that for a new
piCorePlayer build it is a simple matter of using WinSCP to copy the
attached directory "userpath" to /home/tc/.jivelite, overwriting the
existing "userpath" directory, and then backing up changes.

When there is a new beta to test such as the current piCorePlayer 3.20
Beta it takes me longer to remember how to colour the WordClock in than
it does to actually do it.
Could the coloured words be included in the JiveLite package? Doing so
may also brighten the day of the newer users if they try the WordClock
screensaver.

Re: [SlimDevices: Unix] piCorePlayer - Backup fails

2017-04-10 Thread Wirrunna

Greg, I also tried from the How To -

Second method for setting up a Raspberry A+

Burn the piCorePlayer image on your SD-card
Keep you SD-card in your computer, open it via filemanager.
Download the newconfig.cfg file from HERE
Edit the first section of newconfig.cfg file so it fits your
wireless lan:

#
# Edit the variables below to setup a wifi based system without LAN
access
# Change Wifi to "on". Valid options for Encryption are "WEP", "WPA"
or "OPEN"
WIFI="off"
SSID="wireless"
PASSWORD="password"
ENCRYPTION="WPA"
# End Wifi setup

##

Save the newconfig.cfg file to the SD-card.
Use your SD-card for booting up the raspberry, then it will load
your settings from the newconfig.cfg file and automatically connect to
your wifi.

My SSID is "Spotty Dogs" and watching the rPi display as during the boot
process it parses the SSID as "Spotty\\ Dogs" and can't connect

Greg,
Thank you for the reply, you explained how to do this once before but I
can't find it.
I plugged a 16GB Verbatim stick in a USB socket on the rPi and then
clicked the "Save to USB" box on the main page and get the exact same
error as originally posted by th00ht.

Thank you Ralphy and Michael.

The Settings/Display/Now Playing/Buttons for Large Artwork... menu is

The Large artwork is a keeper.

Yes, that looks like it would work.

A Kindle doesn't have icons, rather they define areas of the screen that
when touched will initiate an event such as Home, Back or Forward.

Did you remove the background reducing the touchable area to the arrow?
Or did you make the background transparent so that the icon area is
touchable?
Following the Kindle example, a fully transparent or invisible icon
could be in the Top Left Corner to initiate the Back event and a large
transparent icon, or 4 or 9 transparent 100x100 icons making a square,
could be placed in the centre of the image making a touchable area that
emulates the touch event on the artwork?

Now, testing. I can use Putty and follow Ralphy's instructions to load
something and I can use WinSCP to replace a file or two in the bowels of
a piCorePlayer but I wouldn't have a clue how to apply a patch. The last
time I did that was on an IBM360 some 40 years ago.

Well, for a newby to skin programming you are doing pretty good.

The code that you are referring to is just Jivelite for piCorePlayer is
it not? The logic as you explained it certainly appears wrong, in which
case why not try fixing it? There are a bunch of us out here that will

You don't really need either the "<<" or ">>" as the little blue spot on
the bar showing the position of the time to play / played is sticky
allowing a swipe to skip either forward or backward.

Excellent idea Michael, uses the screen area to advantage. It would be
over the top to suggest that a swipe on the cover would bring up the
back.jpg and any other local artwork, wouldn't it?

OK, which icons are local and where are they? - I colored
/opt/jivelite/share/jive/applets/PiGridSkin/images/IconsResized/icon_favorites_touch.png
and put it in
/home/tc/.jivelite/userpath/applets/PiGridSkin/images/IconsResized/icon_favorites_touch.png

but it didn't work.

In my naivety I thought that the icons would be defined like those for
the word clock -
http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?103330-Jivelite-for-piCorePlayer=859683=1#post859683
and
http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?103330-Jivelite-for-piCorePlayer=859730=1#post859730
.

Obviously it is a lot more complicated than that so just ignore my
comment.

After selecting the Grid Screen instead of the Joggler skin I got the
icons.

Agree that this is easier for navigation. Haven't tried all of them, but
the few I tried worked fine. Now, how do we colour the icons in
.

And my point was to be able to do an in situ upgrade without removing
the SD card and (at the very least) restore the WiFi connectivity
allowing easy re-configuration without having to connect via ethernet.

The team has already put the tools in place with the addition of Samba.
An 8G USB stick on the pi being shared via Samba would enable the update
image to be stored, then the current configuration could be stored via
the existing command, then as Murphyprecht suggests, an update script
would format the SD card, copy the image over and even if only the WiFi
settings were restored the rest of the settings could be made via the
web pages after a reboot.

And I kept saying to myself 'Why add Samba, it is only a player'.
Brilliant idea Murphyprecht, would save all the disconnecting from the
HiFi system, removing the power supply, fiddling with network cables
etc. First world problems I'll happily admit, but an 8Gb USB stick is
only a few bucks and it could save a lot of fiddling. Greg, here is a
challenge for the new year!

Thanks paul, now, is the little yellow lightning bolt that shows briefly
top left on the touch screen indicating network activity or just a
homage to Harry Potter?

Re: [SlimDevices: Unix] Announce: piCorePlayer 3.10

2017-01-07 Thread Wirrunna

The team
Paul, Greg, Ralphy and Steen ,
Downloaded, installed and going. Thank you all.

The longest part of the install for me was getting the Word Clock
screensaver coloured in.
http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?103330-Jivelite-for-piCorePlayer=859683=1#post859683
, took me a while to remember how to hack the SD card with WinSCP ( I
edited my post on the page after Arie's post for next time).

The pCp is running on a RPi 2.01, with a Kali re-clocker, Allo Piano 1
DAC (the one with the headphone amp as well as analog) and the rPi 7"
Touch screen.

Is there somewhere in the pCp web page where you detail the pCp hardware
?
It might be handy if the About tab included a list of hardware detected
- such as RPi model, wireless dongle type, DAC if it can be detected,
screen and any other add ons such as the Kali.

Re: [SlimDevices: Unix] Fedora LMS RPM packages, call for testers...

When I putty into my Vortexbox and run sc-cleanUpdate I get all the
latest linux stuff but LMS hasn't been updated since late October.

Not the end of the world, just observing. I loaded the latest nightly
manually but typing sc-cleanUpdate is simpler.

I got 2 of these ifi iPower 5v/2.5A, they are obviously aimed at the
a'phool types as there is gold writing on the sticker.

The first powers an RPi 2B complete with a 7" Touch screen, KALI
reclocker and MamboBerry DAC and works fine.
The second one is connected to a similar config however the dac is an
Allo Piano, the cheaper one with the headphone amp. Now this one
displays the little multicoloured square in the top right hand corner of
the screen that indicates low voltage or not enough current. Swapping to
an Allo Power Supply
(https://www.allo.com/sparky/power-supply.html#features) disappears the
little multicoloured square. Buggered if I can hear any difference. The
Piano DAC must draw a couple more squilliamps than the MamboBerry.

Re: [SlimDevices: Unix] Announce: piCorePlayer 3.00

2016-11-16 Thread Wirrunna

Slackhead, first thing I would do is make sure that the ribbon cables
from the screen to the RPi are attached properly, especially the one
that loops over the micro sd card as it gets disturbed when you change
the card, unless, of course, you have tiny fingers and three hands and
are therefore tridextrous.

After that I would turn on debug logging and check the logs after a
freeze up.

Depends what you are running LMS on, but 7.9 has some good additions
such as Don't Stop the Music.

Here are the settings for my rPi player
