IMHO it doesn't really matter. I tend to put 64bit on RPi4B's and 32bit on the rest. The old boot disk, created May 2020, had "ExecStart=/usr/bin/squeezelite -o plughw:CARD=Headphones,DEV=0 -n Pi_SqueezeliteService -C 5 " I did a full-upgrade, and as expected I had to change the ExecStart line as follows ExecStart=/usr/bin/squeezelite -o plughw:CARD=Headphones,DEV=0 -n Pi_SqueezeliteService -C 5 So now Pi_SqueezeliteService appears in LMS, but no sound comes out of the Pi's headphone jack. Re: [SlimDevices: Unix] Running LMS on Raspberry Pi for newbie to the Pi
Apologies in advance if this has been covered elsewhere. Please feel free to redirect me if so. I have recently replaced a raspberry pi 4 which broke (sd card and holder). I have loaded the new pi with rp4 graphical interface and kodi, and also behind the scenes squeezelite. Essentially the same as I had in the previous pi. I have a Topping DS10s which is connected by USB to the pi and use this for all audio output. I run logitech media server on a nas for audio. Most of my audio files are not high res but I have a few at 98. In my previous set up these ran fine but for some reason they will not run as high res now. The obvious point is just do what you did before - unfortunately I cannot remember the precise settings. What I can say is that apart from not running 98bps files the system works well. However it is frustrating and a bit puzzling why it will not play the high res files at the correct resolution (they play fine at 48bps). I have checked with cat /proc/asound/card0/stream0 and the output gives the whole range as you would expect but for some reason these are not getting to the DAC or the DAC is not recognising them. I am pretty sure there is nothing wrong with the dac. I have it set as the default sound card and as said above it works fine with kodi video files. Help would be appreciated. crrc's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=66599 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=112025 ___ unix mailing list unix@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/unix

Re: [SlimDevices: Unix] Running LMS on Raspberry Pi for newbie to the Pi
I am now trying to set the 250GB USB drive up as a NAS drive so it can be seen on the network (Windows 10, Android). Everything works except that I cannot see the USB drive in LMS->Media Folders where I just see /media/usb but not /media/usb/250GB_ext4 as expected. It is accessible from the Pi's File Manager, Windows 10 and Android, but not LMS which seems very odd! The process I went through was: To setup the NAS drive umount /dev/sda1 sudo mkfs -t ext4 /dev/sda1 sudo e2label /dev/sda1 250GB_ext4 sudo apt update sudo apt upgrade sudo apt install samba samba-common sudo nano /etc/samba/smb.conf [250GB_ext4] path = /media/pi/250GB_ext4/ writeable = yes create mask = 0775 directory mask = 0775 public=no sudo chmod 777 /media/pi/250GB_ext4 sudo smbpasswd -a pi sudo systemctl restart smbd The drive is now accessible from Windows 10, Android and the Pi. However, in LMS I can see \media\usb but not 250GB_ext4. I tried mounting the drive but it made no difference to LMS. Get ID (ls -l /dev/disk/by-uuid) sudo mkdir /media/usb sudo chown -R pi:pi /media/usb sudo mount /dev/sda1 /media/usb -o uid=pi,gid=pi sudo nano /etc/fstab UUID=c8d9ae87-87c1-4b12-8f85-52c87229b6a0 /media/usb ext4 auto, nofail, noatime, users,rw,uid=pi,gid=pi 0 0 Any ideas why everything can see the 250GB USB drive except LMS? @ bpa I understand your advice (and I have been very grateful for your lucid explanations, which have helped me a lot, reading what you say to others). It is just that in my user case Raspbian Deasktop OS on a rpi 4b I use only alsa. (Pulse and Jack have to be installed) All of the dac hats I use respond well to hw: and the same can be said of usb (I first used front:). I know of some portable dacs that used to require plughw: and maybe still do. Ultimately, I just try things and if I can make them work, then I'm condfident in recomending something. The point that I know nowt about how any of it works is completely irrelevent :o :o :) :) ronnie Man in a van's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=43627 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=112025 ___ unix mailing list unix@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/unix

I'm on a little crusade trying to make people aware that there are subtle differences between the different ALSA device selections For example, sometimes "default" is the same as "pulse" which means two processes owned by different users cannot use the "pulse" device as pulseaudio is normally per user. There are other difference which may be masked by LMS and/or squeezelite's ability to transcodeo r resample unless users disable features or override them with command line options. Another example, recently a PC user was using "front:" which seemed to work for any stream but for one stream it didn't. User was using a $5 USB audio adapter which only supports 44.1kHz & 48khz and the stream was 32kHz. Both front and plughw allow more data formats to be played through the USB audio adapter. "front" handles Sampling rate 44100..192000 Hz Sample formats: S16_LE, S32_LE "plughw" handles Sampling rate 4000..4294967295 Hz Sample formats: S8, U8, S16_LE, S16_BE, U16_LE, U16_BE, S24_LE, S24_BE, U24_LE, U24_BE, S32_LE, S32_BE, U32_LE, U32_BE, FLOAT_LE, FLOAT_BE, FLOAT64_LE, FLOAT64_BE, MU_LAW, A_LAW, IMA_ADPCM, S24_3LE, S24_3BE, U24_3LE, U24_3BE, S20_3LE, S20_3BE, U20_3LE, U20_3BE, S18_3LE, S18_3BE, U18_3LE, U18_3BE So playing the 32kHz stream on squeezelite did not work through "front" but did work through "plughw". bpa's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=1806 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=112025 ___ unix mailing list unix@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/unix

I have removed the -d parameter. But what then do I set DEV to? Or more to the point, the -o parameter? Re: [SlimDevices: Unix] Running LMS on Raspberry Pi for newbie to the Pi
Well I often pursue the following methodolgy when trying something new. Make a base image, this can include stuff I am certain about. Back up the image. Continue experimenting with the base image, if I mess up, then flash a new one and continue. When I have found the correct path, I make a new image and install the "whatever" and make a back up image of that. And progress in this manner until I am happy with what I have, and, you guessed it, make a back up image. When I see something that interests me on this or other forums I have a play. Sometimes I have given up because the methodology defeats me (trying to build perl for a 32 bit install was my last failure) but I always learn new stuff and the devs here are a patient bunch :) ronnie Man in a van's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=43627 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=112025 ___ unix mailing list unix@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/unix

I used aplay to play a .wav file which I could hear through the headphone socket. I uninstalled squeezelite by running "sudo apt-get remove squeezelite". I then reinstalled it with "sudo apt-get install squeezelite". I noticed that when doing "sudo nano /etc/default//squeezelite" the original file that I had edited was still there which seems odd. I didn't reboot after uninstalling, but rebooted after reinstalling. Still doesn't work! Very odd! In the longer run I want to get to know about the Pi and use it for other things, so I decided to "be brave" and launch myself straight into it. I was very pleased when it proved so easy to get LMS running reliably. I never actually intended to use the Pi for Squeezelite since my experience on Windows was not good (esp with sync'ing) and I ended up just hooking another SB3 onto my PC to get rid of Squeezelite. Well I got the Pi4 and within a couple of hours had LMS running on Raspian and running my 4 sync'd SB3s perfectly with the Pi4 on Wifi. That includes BC iPlayer! So far it seems more reliable and effortless than on Windows which gave me 2 decades of niggles. Fingers crossed!!! Thanks to everyone getting me on this path in the first place. As you will discover, the RPi boots from a SD card, so you can have PiCorePlayer on one card and Raspian on another and change OS's by powering down, swap cards and power up again. This should give you the confidence to experiment with Raspian knowing you can easily go back to PiCorePlayer and LMS if something should go wrong. raglencross's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=7239 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=112025 ___ unix mailing list unix@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/unix

My experience i case it helps your decision making. I was running LMS on windows and tired of having the keep my desktop on, or, after shutting down the PC, wondering "what happened to the music?"? With the help of many in this community I built a PcP on a pi3B+ with a 2TB USB HDD as a LMS Server only. Hardware total about $USD100. Super easy. Then I built another for my seasonal cabin. I am retired so they play all the time when I am there. Rock solid. I could not be happier. I have built 2 others for friends. An additional benefit - I don't do cloud and the power is not on at the cabin when I am not there, so I had to decide how to keep my two libraries in sync. I got another HDD that I call the "Travel HDD". I setup FreeFileSync so that I can run it when I am getting ready to go from one location to another, and sync when I arrive. The bonus is in using Samba on the PCP, I can access the free space on the HDD to backup my user files from one location to another in the same sync. That way, not only do I have file backup at home, I also have one at another location, and visa versa. I also can't tell you how many times I was looking for file and realized it was on the desktop of the other location, and smiled because I could just access it through the backup HDD locally. I know that in this day of clouds, and network over the internet what I do is a bit Fred Flintstone, but it is easy once setup, and it works for me. Just thought I would share my experience. Many thanks to the SB founding fathers, PcP developers, and all of the friendly support on this forum. +1 for Max2Play I've been running Max2Play in two different setups. In both setups had LMS + Player 1) Raspi2 B with a 1TB USB 2.5" drive and a IQAudio DAC Hat and wired ethernet. never had any problem. This setup is capable to stream to a second external player without trouble (only tested with same song streamed to local and remote player). 2) Raspi3 B+ with a 128GB USB thumbdrive and IQAudio Amp Hat for my parents (this one used wifi). My only problem with wifi was related to the way ISP router worked and fixed it making a reservation in dhcp to always get the same IP address. As far as I'm concerned and provided you don't plan to use a HAT DAC, I'd go for the RASPI4 because of the improvements in USB. I think the 1GB model is no longer available, so I'd go for the 2GB model. I would check first using wifi and only change to wired ethernet if facing problems. It has no dependent helper application and works on all LMS systems regardless of OS. BBC uses AAC so standard LMS AAC transcoding is required for any player which does not support native AAC. There are 2 version of PlayHLS plugin. PlayHLS V2.* has no has no dependent helper applications and works on all LMS systems regardless of OS. HLS streams use either AAC or MP3 codec and so LMS transcoding will be used to play the streams. PlayHLS V1.* uses ffmpeg and so has to be installed. Some users have repurposed PlayHLS V1.* to play non HLS streams by taking advantage of ffmpeg capabilities. The internet streams/services that are played with BBCiPlayer and PlayHLS often require https support. LMS needs to be at least version 7.9.2 for https support and also LMS uses underlying OS support for https with IO::Socket::SSL and this should be at least V2.* (V2.066 is current) - otherwise some streams/services may fail to play. bpa's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=1806 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=112025 ___ unix mailing list unix@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/unix

Well yes, my understanding is that PicorePlayer is designed to be minimal and just contains the components to run LMS / jivelite / squeezelite and a simple web server for configuration purposes. The whole systems is loaded in RAM, which is remarkable. You can add some extensions, but you won't get a full desktop-type environment for fun scripts/automation projects. You can still multi-boot (with something like BerryBoot) and use other operating systems on the raspberry Pi, as and when needed. truscellino's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=69928 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=112025 ___ unix mailing list unix@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/unix

A month ago I put together a PicorePlayer server/player on rpi B+ (4 years old device) with official touchscreen, without previous experience of raspberry Pi or LMS. I started with the guidance material on PicorePlayer website: https://www.picoreplayer.org/main_getting_started.shtml https://www.picoreplayer.org/main_howto.shtml I also asked a couple of things on this forum and got answers. Everything worked flawlessly pretty much, Once PicorePlayer is installed and running, the configuration via web pages is very clear and effective. LMS, jivelite (if you have a touchscreen) and squeezelite, everything can be set up. I would say it's probably simpler than doing it on Windows 10,,, truscellino's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=69928 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=112025 ___ unix mailing list unix@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/unix

(e.g. use temperature sensors)? LMS running on a Pi/piCorePlayer is no different to LMS/Win10. Not sure what you mean by temperature sensors? piCorePlayer displays it's own CPU graph. 30088 +---+ |Filename: pi4temp.jpg | |Download: http://forums.slimdevices.com/attachment.php?attachmentid=30088| +---+ *Server - LMS 8.0.0 *Pi4B 4GB/Flirc case/pCP 6.0.0 18K library, playlists & LMS cache on SSD (ntfs) *Study -* Pi3B+/pCP 5.0.0/pi screen/HiFiBerry DAC+/jivelite, *Lounge* - Pi2/pCP 5.0.0 > HiFiBerry DIGI+ > AudioEngine DAC1 > AVI DM5 *Dining Room* - Squeezebox Boom *Garage* - Squeezebox Touch > Edifier R980T *Spares* - 1xTouch, 1xSB3, 1xRadio, 7xRPi kidstypike's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=10436 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=112025 ___ unix mailing list unix@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/unix

Just to add - The kit recommended by @d6jg is okay, but I'd bin the case as being not fit for purpose, the Pi4 runs hot - https://www.raspberrypi.org/forums/viewtopic.php?t=243500=250 Get one of these instead - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vkLr08K0c1E *Server - LMS 8.0.0 *Pi4B 4GB/Flirc case/pCP 6.0.0 18K library, playlists & LMS cache on SSD (ntfs) *Study -* Pi3B+/pCP 5.0.0/pi screen/HiFiBerry DAC+/jivelite, *Lounge* - Pi2/pCP 5.0.0 > HiFiBerry DIGI+ > AudioEngine DAC1 > AVI DM5 *Dining Room* - Squeezebox Boom *Garage* - Squeezebox Touch > Edifier R980T *Spares* - 1xTouch, 1xSB3, 1xRadio, 7xRPi kidstypike's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=10436 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=112025 ___ unix mailing list unix@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/unix
Re: [SlimDevices: Unix] Running LMS on Raspberry Pi for newbie to the Pi
Quick extra thing ... if your music is on a networked storage device (like a WD MyCloud) then you can access that from the RPi - there would be no need to buy an extra USB disk. Get an official power supply for the RPi 4 Also - think about some optional components micro hdmi adapter case Paul Webster http://dabdig.blogspot.com Author Radio France (FIP etc) plugin Paul Webster's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=105 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=112025 ___ unix mailing list unix@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/unix

[SlimDevices: Unix] Running LMS on Raspberry Pi for newbie to the Pi
Hi - I want to run LMS on a Raspberry Pi (rather than Win10) for a bunch of reasons. I have zero experience of the Pi and still need to buy one. Can anyone point me in the right direction? I need it to: - connect to 3 wired SB3s and a wireless SB Radio, all sync'd - play a 200GB FLAC library - stream internet radio - ideally to include BBC iPlayer (or PlayHLS) - the Raspberry Pi can be either wired or wireless (would slightly prefer wired for reliability when syncing) Questions: - which Pi version to buy? The lastest Pi 4? Or a cheaper Pi 3 B+? Or something else? - is there a beginners guide to get me going? I don't even know which operating system to use! I am used to Windows and DOS (! - remember that?) rbl's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=4517 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=112025 ___ unix mailing list unix@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/unix
