[users] Calc: Shifting of symbols
In OOcalc I wanted to use formula (symbols) and then some mathematical formula or its description in next cell. For sysmbol is used "Anchored to Cell", for description, I used "Vertical Alignment: Top". With this arrangement I was unable to get symbol and description in a line. On trying to change base point for position of symbol failed. Please see: http://picasaweb.google.co.in/hardeep.rai/Temp#5385972517172890082 On deleting row containing "Beta", it deleted symbol "Beta" as expected but also deleted symbol "pi", i.e symbol of next line. http://picasaweb.google.co.in/hardeep.rai/Temp#5385972513748603090 File is at: http://gndec.ac.in/~hsrai/tmp/ooFormula.ods How I can keep content of a row in a line (align vertically) and why it deleted two symbol. In other big document, when I inserted a row, all symbols shifted in wrong manner (It shifted "Description, but not "symbol" for newly inserted row, i.e. new inserted row had a symbol in it, i.e for rest of rows it "shifted relatively 1, instead of zero). -- H.S.Rai - To unsubscribe, e-mail: users-unsubscr...@openoffice.org For additional commands, e-mail: users-h...@openoffice.org

Ctrl+click adds the relevant cell to the selection - but note that is a toggle, so it can also be used to remove a cell from the current selection. Re: [users] Automatic copying
Jonny, I have a very large speadsheet that is updated once a week by adding additional information from a website. In using the spreadsheet I found out that the more standardized the spreadsheet the easier it is to use. It is best if the numbers are in the same order at all different parts of the spreadsheet. For example, to explain what I mean, assume the numbers apply to the days of the week which they do not. At all parts of the spreadsheet Monday should be in cell A1, Tuesday in cell A2, Wednesday in cell A3 etc. It is not desirable to have Wednesday in cell A1 and Monday in cell C1 while the rest of the spreadsheet has the reverse order. An additional factor for me is that in the USA we tend to think in habitual patterns. I find that when skimming a large spreadsheet I always subconsciously think from left to right and from top to bottom. I download the numbers as follows On a website select a group of numbers > Right-click > Copy On the speadsheet click in a cell that will be the upper left cell for the group of numbers. That clicked upon cell will have numbers to its right and also numbers in rows below the clicked upon cell. D2, h2, J2, K2, L2, N2, etc are date columns holding the points value. X2 to X7 is the Wins column, Y2 - 7 is the loss and z2-7 is the tie. So, what Im attempting to do is, =IF(D2=3, 1,"") - which works. But what I want to do is added up each column of wins. So, if D2 = 3 then x2 is three after the first game. Next week if F2 = 3 then x2 would equal 6. I fear you are contradicting yourself here. Your suggested formula *counts* the wins, whereas what you ask for later is the *sum of the point scores* for those wins. But you can do either, of course. If I understand you correctly, you can count the wins with =COUNTIF(D2:D7;"=3") and you can sum them with either =COUNTIF(D2:D7;"=3")*3 or =SUMIF(D2:D7;"=3") I trust this helps. Yes, AllChars ”emulates” the Unix/Linux style of entering special characters. If you are on Linux (at least Ubuntu, I can't say much about other distributions), there is also another way, better in that matter that ou can enter every UTF-8 character there is to enter: Ctrl+Shift+u → Release keys → enter the hex code, in this case a0 → hit ↵(Enter). This works for any UTF-8 character, such as: ☏☠←↑↓→⇨↵¶⅛¼⅜½⅝¾⅞⅓⅔⅕⅖⅗⅘⅚⅙×·☹¡☺¿πΩωφ©℗℃℉⚀⚁⚂⚃⚄⚅τ♢♣♡♠⡺⡻⡼⥻⧒⩽⩾のあタㄞ亁乬亜亹亶廬靈 etc etc (there are thousands of them, but few fonts contains all of them, so you need additional fonts in some cases). Even though the frame style properties dialog does not show the anchoring type, the property is part of the frame style. You can see it in the property list on the "Organizer" tab in the style dialog (although it seems to be labeled "To character" instead of "As character"). You can set the property by creating a fully configured sample frame, then create (or update) the style using "New style from selection" in the "Styles and Formatting" window. For content like this, I usually just copy/paste an already-finished instance, then edit to change the content. Timo, it sounds as if you're not getting the confirmation request, is that true? Nearly all of those to whom we give this advice then vanish, so it has apparently worked for them or they'd probably come back with questions. The exceptions I've seen have had to do with filters, or with an e-mail client that can't handle the response address as such. Are you sure that none of your personal filters are trapping the confirmation message? If so, have you tried contacting users-ow...@openoffice.org, or users-requ...@openoffice.org? Please keep in mind that some (many?) of these requests may have come from "users" that purchases OOo from unscrupulous scammers that sell OOo links & then promise to provide full support. What they do is charge the person for a link to OOo mirrors (some of which may be government funded universities - making this illegal in some cases), and then automatically sign the person up to this list for support. Any person that has fallen for this scam most likely has never heard of, or experienced, an email list. Next thing they know, they are flooded with OOo list messages. They then try to unsubscribe - sometimes they are successful, sometimes not. All you need to do it check the archives for examples. Another issue is the OOo support page itself: http://support.openoffice.org/index.html Users Mail List (Subscribe / Archives) OpenOffice.org Project community support provided by a network of hundreds of experienced users. You must be subscribed to post messages. While most longtime OOo list users applaud the 'Subscribe' link, I think it also is part of the problem. Again, someone that has no experience with email lists, clicks on the link (mailto:users-subscr...@openoffice.org) and gets subscribed. Rather than doing that, the link (IMO) should instead go directly to: http://www.openoffice.org/mail_list.html where the prospective list member can read information about the list first. That, or a similar page explaining list basics, and explaining that they are about to: 1) be subscribed to possible high volume email list, and 2) clear instructions on how to unsubscribe if they find that they don't wish to continue. This page could also serve as the subscribe/unsubscribe form in the same manner used by other lists.
