oh i am itching to produce about 5 new shows and they are nothing like the reality shows on tv On Nov 12, 2007 10:21 PM, Jay dedman [EMAIL PROTECTED] wrote: An article by Marc Andreessen: http://blog.pmarca.com/2007/11/rebuilding-holl.html What would a new entertainment media company, producing original content, look like in the age of the Internet? I didnt really think of this till I read his post: Obviously, the less scripted television and film content that's being produced, the more alienated consumers will shift over to all the new activities -- and the less likely they will ever go back. Commercial TV and Movies still draw huge numbers because it's scripted...which means its about often good storytelling...which trumps most everything. We all love good stories well told. As the Writer's Strike continues and the studios keep adding reality TV and cheaper programming to their schedules, the difference between them and web video becomes less and less. The big question is whether Hollywood writers and producers will go back to their cells, or realize that distribution is wide open to whatever they have in imagination. There is money for good ideas well sold. Veronica should go all out and be the geek and gaming girl she was born to be... not put on the tight fitting shirt and dumb herself down. This is much like the youtube issue earlier. Youtube courts a lot of non-genuine traffic... people there for the crowd and spectacle... people who leave assinine comments and wouldn't watch your show if it wasn't the most popular video of the day. This is VERY often seen amongst many top youtube people. 500,000 hits on one video 11,000 on the next. In the racing world you're only as good as your last race... in the youtube world your only really as big as your least viewed video. That is more reflective of your real audience. To: Announcing PFCOne, the first online film festival sponsored by passionforcinema.com Orange County, CA - September 3, 2007 - passionforcinema.com, a leading independent voice on the Internet for âfilm fanatics and filmmakers around the world, has announced PFCOne, a one-minute online film festival, to be held December 1 - 5, 2007. The call for entries for PFCOne runs from September 10 to November 15, 2007, with the selected films put up for screening on the passionforcinema.com website between December 1 - 5, 2007. PFCOne is a platform for anyone with a story to tell who has ever dreamed of making a film to create a one-minute film to be viewed online at passionforcinema.com. PFCOne invites all filmmakers or those who have ever thought of making a film, to submit a one-minute movie using mobile phones, camcorders, video, digital or movie cameras, or any other device they can easily access which can capture motion pictures. Animated films are also encouraged. There is no entry fee for the festival. PFCOne is a juried festival with prizes including film and screenwriting internships with directors and writers on the forefront of the Indian independent film movement. Confirmed jurors include: Rajkumar Gupta (Aamir, Black Friday, No Smoking) Surendra Hiwarale (0:00 PM, Mr. Ya Miss, Nishabd) Anurag Kashyap (No Smoking, Black Friday, Paanch) Nishikant Kamat (Mumbai Meri Jaan, Dombivili Fast) Pavan Kaul (Bhram, Ssshhh, Chor aur Chaand) Christina Marouda (President - The Indian Film Festival of Los Angeles) Hansal Mehta (Woodstock Villa, Jayate, Dil Pe Mat Le Yaar, Chhal) Sudhir Mishra (Khoya Khoya Chaand, Hazaaron Khwaishein Aisi, Dharavi) Onir (Bas Ek Pal, My Brother Nikhil) Ramu Ramanathan (Playwright - director, journalist and editor) and, Suparn Verma (Ek Khiladi Ek Haseena, Chhal, Karam, Qayamat) The main purpose of the festival is to connect with budding film-makers, ask them to pick up a camera and tell a story. The main criteria to judge a film would be the subject and its final impact on the audience. Film-making is an expensive art form. But if films are shot on digital cameras and edited on laptops, it would prove to be quite inexpensive. And if they win, it would give them further confidence to take their talent forward. - Anurag Kashyap Finding a platform to exhibit one's work is often impossible, more so when it is of a purely personal nature without any commercial value whatsoever. PFC has literally 'come into the homes' of many aspiring film makers, taking their work to the world. I am always excited when I go to the movies and now movies are coming to me... - Pavan Kaul I am expecting to see a lot of interesting concepts coming out in these one minute films, a platform for the aspiring film maker in everyone and the possibility of discovering some crazy kick ass stuff. I think something like this sometimes results in tapping untapped creativity. Very often people keep planning to make a small film... this kind of festival gives this desire a push... and ultimately leading to spreading the desire and want of good cinema. - Onir passionforcinema.com went online in September 2006 as a community website designed to bring together all movie fanatics, cinema lovers and those who eat, breathe and drink cinema in one place to review and discuss movies, movie related events, movie personalities, personal opinions, and to share personal knowledge on technical aspects of the medium. Silver also told YouTube to take down a number of videos showing the dance, including one clip of a concert filmed by Kyle Machulis. Machulis sued Silver for copyright abuse. As part of the settlement, Silver agreed to allow the video to be reposted with a tagline crediting him for the choreography, but he now says he's waiting for paperwork from the Library of Congress that will allow him to open new lawsuits over clips like Machulis's. Re: [videoblogging] What is a journalist--Defined
they can try to define it however they want but bloggers report the news and thats what journalism is money or not see this article in the post today *Crackdowns On Bloggers Increasing, Survey Finds* By Nora Boustany Washington Post Foreign Service Wednesday, October 17, 2007; A14 Government repression in some countries has shifted from journalists to bloggers, with the vitality of the Internet triggering a more focused crackdown as blogs increasingly take the place of mainstream news media, according to Lucie Morillon, Washington director of the advocacy group Reporters Without Bordershttp://www.washingtonpost.com/ac2/related/topic/Reporters+Without+Borders?tid=informline . Countries that were not sentencing journalists to prison terms anymore have been doing it these last months for bloggers. This is the case in Egypthttp://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-srv/world/countries/egypt.html?nav=eland Jordan, she said yesterday as the group released its sixth annual Worldwide Press Freedom Index http://www.rsf.org/IMG/pdf/index_2007_en.pdf. Egypt ranked 146th and Jordan 122nd in press freedom among the 169 countries for which data were available. Reporters Without Borders said major industrialized countries, including the United States, made slight progress, moving up several notches, with the exception of Russiahttp://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-srv/world/countries/russia.html?nav=el. Icelandhttp://www.washingtonpost.com/ac2/related/topic/Iceland?tid=informlinetopped the list for press freedom in the survey, and Eritreahttp://www.washingtonpost.com/ac2/related/topic/Eritrea?tid=informlineranked last. While not all press freedom violations were known in the countries ranked second and third from the bottom -- North Koreahttp://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-srv/world/countries/korea.html?nav=eland Turkmenistanhttp://www.washingtonpost.com/ac2/related/topic/Turkmenistan?tid=informline-- Eritrea deserves to be at the bottom, the group said. Eritrean President Isaias Afwerki has banished privately owned press outlets and jailed the few journalists who have dared criticize the government, it said. We know that four of them have died in detention and we have every reason to fear that others will suffer the same fate, the group added. Most democracies improved their ranking, with the United States moving up to 48th place from last year's 53rd, Morillon said. The reason the United States did not make the top 30 is because videographer and blogger Josh Wolf spent almost eight months in jail for not turning over video footage of a demonstration in San Franciscohttp://www.washingtonpost.com/ac2/related/topic/San+Francisco?tid=informlineand because the confidentiality of sources is under continued attack, she said. Cameraman Sami al-Hajj, from al-Jazeera satellite television, is still being held without charges at the U.S. detention facility at Guantanamo Bay, Cuba http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-srv/world/countries/cuba.html?nav=el, and journalist Chauncey Baileyhttp://www.washingtonpost.com/ac2/related/topic/Chauncey+Bailey?tid=informlinewas killed in Oaklandhttp://www.washingtonpost.com/ac2/related/topic/Oakland?tid=informline, Calif.http://www.washingtonpost.com/ac2/related/topic/California?tid=informline, after his coverage made him a target, she added. Outside Europehttp://www.washingtonpost.com/ac2/related/topic/Europe?tid=informline, no region has been spared censorship or violence toward journalists. We are particularly disturbed by the situation in Burmahttp://www.washingtonpost.com/ac2/related/topic/Myanmar?tid=informline, Reporters Without Borders said. The military junta's crackdown on demonstrations bodes ill for the future of basic freedoms. . . . Journalists continue to work under the yoke of harsh censorship from which nothing escapes, not even small ads. Chinahttp://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-srv/world/countries/china.html?nav=elwas at the low end of the index, in 163rd place. With less than a year to go to the 2008 Olympics, the reforms and the releases of imprisoned journalists so often promised by the authorities seem to be a vain hope, the group said. Concerning Uzbekistanhttp://www.washingtonpost.com/ac2/related/topic/Uzbekistan?tid=informline(160th), Reporters Without Borders said it feared a wave of repression would target the handful of independent journalists left in the run-up to the presidential election in December. In the Palestinian territories (158th), the threat has changed, according to Morillon. Two years ago, it was coming from the Israeli forces shooting at Palestinian reporters. These days, the main threat comes from internal conflicts and the rivalry between Fatahhttp://www.washingtonpost.com/ac2/related/topic/Fatah+Organization?tid=informlineand Hamas http://www.washingtonpost.com/ac2/related/topic/Hamas?tid=informline, she added. And no, I'm not going to make a videoblog about it. I only write this because sometimes this list gets bogged down on Politics As Subject. And I hate it. Personally, I care what this list has to say about Politics For Videobloggers. Things like CC issues, TOC issues, concepts of an open distribution, concepts of compensation, interpretations of the difference between video online and on the big screen (or in the kitchen/living/bed room!), constructs on how video empowers someone else to DO SOMETHING (and I dont care what that is. Make them laugh, cry, vote, poop, whatever.) I can go on, but I would rather Michael Meiser take the helm. This rant has nothing to do with you, Charles. Honestly. Now I know Caitlin's one of the YouTubers that's doing a character. She does mostly goofy entertainment skits. If she's acting in these two videos, I'll tip my hat, because she seems perfectly serious to me. There are lots of things I find interesting about these videos, including the fact that she seems to have a good grasp on the difference between laughing at and laughing with and she's basically putting down the exact same type of videos that she does herself. She also says that she liked [her work] way more before she cared what other people thought. At this point, AFAIK, she's in the YouTube Partner program. Her punchline at the end of the Crocker video is Please realize this. Reality TV is like YouTube... Need I say more? Granted, I don't watch many YouTube Character videos, so I have no idea whether lots of people are saying this, but (again, if we're to take her seriously, and I've chosen to do that after having watched both videos) her stance seems to be opposing the stance of anything that anybody does is worthwhile to anybody but themselves and anybody who gets sponsored or chosen to do something has been deemed a quality performer. I find it to be a very progressive and insightful stance from someone who specializes in deliberately-goofy videos. Obviously, Caitlin has been exposed to more of the industry, and that may be coloring her view of sit in front of your webcam videos. I wanted to post this in light of some people mentioning that the recent conversations in this group have been about money. How do we get paid? How do we monetize? How do we get sponsored? How do we grow and maintain an audience? How do we get more hits? How do we get more distribution? What kinds of ads should we run? I agree from my own perspective with what Caitlin had to say about caring what people think. That's partially why what was going to be a personal battle with Vergel Evans http://Lx7.ca became Vlog Deathmatch: Video Music Challenge http://vlogdeathmatch.blogspot.com/2007/05/bill-cammacks-official-music-video.html . I had basically bored myself to death doing videos that conformed to what the public was consuming or what was being done in the space. I love that particular video I did with ActionGirl, because it was fun, she brought fantastic energy to the project, and I was consistently, progressively creative during the time we shot it and I edited it. That's more my style and what I got involved with video to do in the first place. I also really enjoyed the diversity and creativity of the other 19 entries in the contest, which I really think of more as a festival. I've also had the *rare* reaction of Damn... I wish *I* had made that video when I see Jay Smooth's creativity in his videoblog Ill Doctrine http://www.illdoctrine.com/2007/06/the_ill_doctrine_dipset_anthem.html http://www.illdoctrine.com/2007/07/john_lee_hooker_i_get_money_fr.html. I guess it all comes down to what YOU would do if you weren't concerned with numbers or viewers or getting sponsored or paying bills through videoblogging... the exact opposite of what we've been discussing lately. Maybe you're already doing exactly what you want. Maybe your videos are already personally satisfying to you. I've been getting A LOT of satisfaction cutting Scriggity http://scriggity.com with Drew Olanoff @ Shauna. Just last night, Clintus McGintus told us he was with the program to do Scriggity epidodes, so it's just getting better and better. :D I wonder what the percentage is between people that actually enjoy what they're doing and people that do their shows specifically to get hits, sponsorship or attention. If you're not going to do videos that *you* like or even LOVE, make sure the ROI's worth it. Otherwise, you might be better off keeping your day job and making videos that are completely unmarketable, yet personally fulfilling. -- Bill http://billcammack.com -- http://geekentertainment.tv [Non-text portions of this message have

[videoblogging] Fwd: Funding needed for Iraqi boys' travel to London
hi guys this is a former classmate of mine from columbia -- Forwarded message -- From: Ivan O'Mahoney [EMAIL PROTECTED] Date: Sep 28, 2007 10:46 AM Our film Baghdad High will premiere on 7 November at the Sheffield International Documentary Festival. Under the guidance of two local Iraqi producers and a London based team, the film was shot by four Iraqi high school boys who documented their entire senior year in Baghdad. I am hoping to bring the kids and their headmaster over from Iraq for the screening so they can do the QA instead of me, but we are completely broke. Does anyone have any knowledge of charities or foundations who might be willing to contribute towards their travel expenses? The kids have really made an extraordinary film the BBC has decided to run it at 90 minutes instead of the originally commissioned one hour. They have put so much money in already though that I dare not ask them for another 6000 pounds (which is what we need). Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Re: [videoblogging] PUNKCAST 10 YEARS ANNIVERSARY
hey thanks for this email i had no idea! holy cow 10 yrs On 9/13/07, WWWhatsup [EMAIL PROTECTED] wrote: http://punkcast.com/10years.html PUNKCAST 10 YEARS ANNIVERSARY PARTY AND SCREENING FRIDAY SEPTEMBER 14 2007 8-12pm Secret Project Robot 210 Kent Avenue, Brooklyn ( Metropolitan) (entrance on River St) In September 1997, UK punk band One Way System came to play NYC. Their manager John B was a friend, and had run Jettisoundz - a UK punk video label. I was working on internet stuff and suggested the event be webcast. He was keen to do it live, but I explained the merits economical and reachwise of making the meat available on-demand with as little fluff as possible - thus punkcast.com was born. I myself was inspired by the fan-run ftp sites for both Bjork and Prodigy, which way outstripped all other internet music efforts of the day. We hired a cameraman to come and shoot video and put up some pix, the entire audio from three shows, plus a postage stamp size mpeg clip. John B, inspired, went back to the UK and on his own next shoots - Hawkwind (taken down, regretfully, earlier in 2007), and Goldblade - made audio punkcasts. He returned to the USA in Jan 98 to shoot Jane Couch - a Women's Boxing Champion who is the sister of One Way System's drummer, and later in the year posyted audio of the UK Subs playing in his local in Lancashire. The arrival in NYC of Peter The Test Tube Babies in Sep 1998 was sufficient impetus for me to buy a camera for punkcast, and over the next year I shot about half a dozen more old school bands I knew, including a quartet of NYC hard core favourites - Bad Brains, Agnostic Front, Murphys Law, and Leeway. In 1999 when Ari-Up re-appeared on the scene for her first shows in over 25 years I was there. She's a compelling subject and I shot her several times, plus some of the local reggae scene, which brought the punkcast count up to around 20. In late 2000 I started paying Sean P. Murphy to shoot local punk hardcore, mainly at CBGB, and over the next year he shot about 70 odd shows, only a couple of which I actually got round to posting. During this time punkcast also got it's first taste of the NYC indie scene when Leesaw Andaloro contributed a Touchdown clip for #50. The count was just #100, in September 2001, as Punkcast entered its 5th year. I'd found I enjoyed shooting so, with the well burst internet bubble giving me more time, I decided to do more. Two local bands interested me in particular - anti- folk heroes the Moldy Peaches and hot hipster outfit the Yeah Yeah Yeahs. I shot posted both in short order, and also discovered that both bands were the tips of the iceberg of extensive associated scenes that would provide grist for years to follow. Shooting old pal Joe Strummer in April 2002 for 4 nights in a row allowed me to experiment and is when I really established the style I maintain to this day. By September 2002 the count was up to #200. It was then that I seriously started to shoot in Brooklyn, discovering Mighty Robot and Todd P. After clandestinely shooting some great shows such as The Gossip in Jun 2003, I was fortunate to gain a carte blanche to shoot in the Knitting Factory, greatly expanding the possibilities. This was an exciting period as the YYY's, Liars etc broke out internationally, while new and interesting bands such as TV On The Radio were appearing. I embarked on shooting a series of avant showcases - titled 'Mutiny' - put on by The Social Registry. The city had started it's own TV station NYCtv and, after being approached by producer Shirley Braha, I supplied the bulk of the content for it's nascent new music show NY Noise. In September 2003, after 6 years, the count was #320. A year later, in September 2004, the count was #540. Doubling the shoot rate, however, meant that fewer shows got posted. I had moved the studio to close to the Knit, to better take advantage of the opportunies it presented. One shoot #431 - The Fall - was so successful the band released it on DVD. Apart from frequent Mighty Robots I was also regularly shooting at Pianos, Sin-é, Southpaw, Trash Bar, and a new warehouse space in Brooklyn called Volume. Re: [videoblogging] Re: A Video Middle Class?
bill streeter said it for me i just recently had some experience recently where i saw that my expertise lies in content production not in deal making (contrary to popular belief) i dont see my advertising friends (the quality guys, not the scam guys) as experts in a field i do not need to understand to such a deep degree for that expertise, i am willing to pay them a percentage of my earnings again, i have NOT earned enough money from advertising to pay my rent (not even close really) so i speak from a novice's experience, however i would not venture any further without assistance On 9/25/07, Heath [EMAIL PROTECTED] wrote: I see a ton of passion too, and sometimes you get paid in other ways, like for me I am making some internal commercials for where I work. Now, they are not cutting me a check, butI have filmed on the clock and I am going to get comp time for the time at home editing (that was my choice I could have taken money, hour for hour) so in effect, I DID get paid. Now it wasn't for vlogging but it was because I started vlogging that I knew how to edit, film, etc and that paid off with this. Now I would love to maybe do some more work, who knows. I just know I won't get paid for Batman Geek and that's cool with mebut maybe because of batman geek, I will get paid to do other stuffwho knows Heath http://batmangeek.com --- In videoblogging@yahoogroups.com videoblogging%40yahoogroups.com, Jay dedman [EMAIL PROTECTED] wrote: I'm launching something in the next month or so on my site, though I haven't arrived at a model yet. I have an immediate negative (knee jerk?) reaction to artificial exclusivity, borne of frustration at not being able to see the stuff I cared about when I was young and those aforementioned punkesque values, which is part of what makes me love the videblogging world so much. But I also believe that artists should be able to make a living from their work, and that when artists are prevented from devoting their working hours to it the work suffers, and so does the culture. everyone has had some good insights on this topic. charles, heath, sull, brook. I know Irina and I have talked about earning an independent living through videoblogging. anything but simply becoming an employee again. ive changed my thinking lately. I grew to think of videobloggers are just being bloggers. (text) bloggers dont expect to get paid. if they do, they work for a company that pays them to blog about certain subjects. for many videobloggers this may be true. this is the wonderful world of blogging. But im starting to see another sphere of videobloggers who are more akin to musicians. They are making art, entertainment, and stories. Like music, the videos are really valuable stuff to a certain audienceand it takes a lot of creative time and effort to make it happen. These videos cant be done in a coffee break at work. Like musicians, I guess its about setting expectations. How much do you need each month to live and create? How much do you really love and need to do it? How can you create a really strong relationship with the people who watch? How can you take advantage of the opportunities that come up? How to be become creative at just living a different kind of life? I see some in the music world who have gotten filthy rich and famousbut I also mostly love the musicians who have created music that informs my life...who helped change the way I think and see the world. I assume these musicians wouldnt have done it any other way. Its something we dont talk about openly...but every videblogger on this list that took the plunge in the past couple years to really focus on their video work has been successful in some way. Committed creativity is always rewarded (though not always in the ways you expect). Some form of sacrafice is usually always necessary. Dont know where I'm going with this line of thinking. Maybe its that I see the same kind of passion in videoblogging as I do in the music world. I've been asked to join the new team, serving as VP of Product Development, and will be heading up FireAnt's transition (among other projects) as we re-launch everything under the Odeo brand later this year. First of all, I want to say Thank You to everyone in the videoblogging community who supported FireAnt along the way, especially Jay Dedman, Daniel Salber, Erik Radmall, and Clint Sharp, who were instrumental in launching this project. We met a lot of wonderful creative people, and made some really important lifelong friendships. It's been an amazing privilege to contribute to this dynamic and innovative community, and especially to have been involved from such an early stage. I also want to thank Jonathan Weiss, Drew Reynaud, and Jesse Boley who continued FireAnt's technology development over the past year, which was demo'd at Video on the Net in March 2007. When we first launched ANTs Not TV at Vloggercon in January 2005, there were about 20 active videobloggers we knew each of them personally and worked with most of them to create those magical RSS feeds with enclosures. It was amazing to see all these video channels updating over time and to watch them in a unified experience. There was nothing else like it. It was clear that something powerful was happening. It was a new kind of television, and yet it was not like TV at all it was open to anyone and the possibilities seemed endless. And it began to spread thanks to the many talented and creative video producers, educators, and evangelists. While FireAnt had its share of struggles along the way as a start up, I'm encouraged that the ideas we helped pioneer have grown incredibly stronger over the past few years. This Not TV (now more often called Internet TV) is really changing the media culture, and it's having profound social effects. The medium is enabling new voices and conversations. The playing field is being leveled the barriers between Internet TV and TV are disintegrating. So it's up to us to create what we want to see and share We don't have to rely on Rupert Murdoch and Sumner Redstone to create our culture. Thank goodness! I look forward to watching your videos (and subscribing!). When I get back to producing a more regular videoblog (or whatever it's called), I hope you'll subscribe and leave me a comment :-) Best, Josh - http://JoshKinberg.com [Non-text portions of this message have been removed] Yahoo! Re: [videoblogging] Re: new RyanIsHungry.com with Show-In-A-Box awesomeness
hey this is an interesting issue since i try to remind myself that IE is still about 80% of the market right now On 9/4/07, Bill Cammack [EMAIL PROTECTED] wrote: --- In videoblogging@yahoogroups.com videoblogging%40yahoogroups.com, Cheryl Colan [EMAIL PROTECTED] wrote: We knew about this already from our testing phase. It is caused by the new offer embed code feature of vPIP - specifically by whatever CSS styles come with it by default. Without adding the share embed code, the page displays fine in IE6. With it, the layout is broken in IE6. I believe it looked fine in IE7 with WindowsXP running in Parallels on my Mac. I don't have access to Vista so that's an unknown. I know what you mean, Cheryl... in general... not particularly pertaining to Show-In-A-Box. I was planning to blog about this after the flash/h.264 hooplah, but didn't have time to with my myriad simultaneous projects. From when I first started out with blogger, I was testing my sites on four browsers on two machines. Mac Firefox, Mac Safari, Windows Firefox, Windows Internet Explorer. I had both monitors next to each other and would keep tweaking until I got something that worked with all four. Eventually, I bailed on Internet Explorer, because the other three generally worked all at the same time, and my extra time was being spent formatting for IE. Same thing with codecs. I started out wanting to make AVI and MP4 and Flash to make sure that whomever came to the site could definitely see the videos. I ended up bailing on AVI and Flash because of quality and frame rate issues. The only reason I'm involved with Flash at all at this point is that blip.tv automatically transcodes my MOVs into Flash when I upload them. The only reason I'm involved with ogg at this point is that Jay Ryanne keep bringing it up, so I may as well encode to that format as well. If it weren't for Show-In-A-Box, I'd just post MOVs, and let anyone else eat cake. :D -- billcammack http://realfans.tv The vPIP release that includes offer embed code came out right before we were set to relaunch and there was a last minute scramble to add it because we wanted that embed code. Before going live, Ryanne and I talked about what to do - whether to go live with the design flaw, or leave the offer embed code feature off the site until more testing could be done, and her decision was to include the offer embed code feature despite the problem with IE6. We're continuing to pursue a solution. I initially found that turning vPIP's offer embed code styling off looked a lot worse than leaving it on. It became an unstyled table that pushed well outside the main content column into the sidebar area (overlapping the content there). I was unable to restyle it with my own CSS. But that's because we were under deadline to get the new site in place. Now that's done, there will be time to poke the CSS until it's beaten into submission. And good thing about that is I'll be able to document how to style it once we figure it out! Great feedback, Bill. Site stats say there are still a significant number of visitors coming in on IE6, so we do need to address this as soon as possible. I should chronicle the whole redesign process. We ran into Safari weirdness, too. When I finally got it working in all my test browsers I felt like a freaking hero. Then it broke when we updated vPIP - and I just about cried. Sigh.
