RE: a media live reader

2016-11-08 Thread Sieghard Weitzel
Hi Todd,

This app does not recognize and read text that appears in an existing video
which is how I understand your question.
It does instant OCR and reads what it sees with the camera in video mode and
also has a still camera mode where it basically does the same as KNFB Reader
except I would be surprised if it did it as well.
Basically it does what Talking Goggles does which costs $0.99. There was also
an update for Talking Goggles today which mentioned "- Resolved iOS 10 issues"
and "Performance improvements" in the What's New section.

Here is what it says on the app store about A Media Live Reader and the link to
the app in the app store since there is a lot more information about it there:

Features:
* Scans a live image captured by a camera and reads the texts in it in
real-time.
* Designed for visually impaired users.
* Supported language: English, Chinese (Simplified), Chinese (Traditional),
Czech, Danish, Dutch, Finnish, French, German, Greek, Hungarian, Indonesian,
Italian, Japanese, Korean, Malay, Norwegian (Bokmål), Polish, Portuguese,
Romanian, Slovak, Spanish, Swedish and Turkish.
* Employs an excellent OCR technology powered by ABBYY.

How to Use:
1. Open the App with VoiceOver turned on.
2. Tap the "Active" button to focus. The App starts beeping.
3. Direct the camera to letters. The App detects and read them in real-time.
4. Hold the device flat (with the camera facing down) to take a still picture.
This is useful when you're reading paper sheets on a desk.
5. The previously read texts can be reached by left swiping.
6. Copy the texts to the Clipboard in the Settings screen.

Sieghard

Do you mean the Media Live Reader may be able to read text from a live video
the same way sighted folks see the text there in the video?

RE: Phone app on Apple Watch

2016-11-08 Thread Sieghard Weitzel
That would make sense then and it explains why I am restricted to bluetooth
range. I just called Telus and apparently WiFi calling is supposed to be
available in the next "months". This is "months" plural and unfortunately not
"month" as in by the end of November or beginning of December. Apparently Telus
is the last of the 3 carriers to have this, both Bell and Rogers have been
offering WiFi calling for some time. Anyhow, I hope it will come by the end of
the year or at least in January or February so I can take advantage of this as
well.

Sieghard.

Hi Sieghard,

I think Wi-Fi calling has to be available and turned on for you to be able to
get calls on the watch without it having a bluetooth connection to your phone.

Anna

Hi Anna,

That's amazing, I really don't undersand why there isn't a DialPad, definitely
something I will have to submit as feedback/a feature request.
I did check under Settings > Phone and for "Calls on other devices" it says
"When Nearby". If I double tap on that it says that it is turned on and that is
the only setting I see.
Unfortunately Telus, one of the 3 big carriers in Canada, for some reason does
not yet offer Wi-Fi calling, hopefully this will change soon.

I wonder why my Watch didn't ring then yesterday since my phone was connected
to my store's WiFi network and according to what you said this means my watch
should also be connected.

Another oddity I noticed is that when I open the Messages app I saw all my
messages, but a few of the iMessage threads I had deleted on my phone, but they
still showed up on the watch. Shouldn't they go away on the watch if they are
deleted on the phone.

Thanks,
Sieghard

Hi Sieghard,

No, there's no dial pad for the phone on the watch. There aren't Wi-Fi settings
either, but your watch does have Wi-Fi capability, and it will join any network
that your phone has joined. As a result, you can get iMessages and
notifications even if your phone is off. I believe that if your phone and watch
are connected to the same Wi-Fi network, you can get calls on your watch if you
have Wi-Fi Calling turned on. Note that not all cell networks allow Wi-Fi
calling. Check in Phone Settings on your phone. Wi-Fi Calling and Calls on
Other Devices should both be turned on.

I hope that's of some help.

Best,
Anna

Hi Watchers (is that a good name to call us Apple Watch users?),

I am fairly new to the Apple Watch. Am I missing something or is there no
DialPad in the phone app on the Apple Watch? If so I really hope Apple will fix
this because this means you can’t use it at all to make phone calls to anywhere
you may have to enter an extension or press a number to reach a certain
department etc. Nowadays this means most phone calls to larger and medium sized
companies are not possible with the Apple Watch since so many businesses
nowadays have auto-answer systems where you do have to press some numbers. It’s
not as if it couldn’t be done, after all there is a keypad for entering your
passcode which is basically the same as the Dialpad of the phone app without
the Asterisk and Number keys.

Also, I thought the Apple Watch used WiFi, but I don’t see a WiFi setting
anywhere, just bluetooth. Yesterday I had left my phone in the office at my
retail store and was up front with a customer, maybe 50 or 60 feet away from
the office. I heard my phone ring in the office, but my Apple Watch didn’t
ring, it then started ringing as I walked a bit closer, but by then it was too
late to pick up the call before it went to voice mail.

Sieghard

So I was looking at this app and saw that it costs $29. I'm wondering if
anyone out here has it and how well it works? Also is there a podcast of
audio description of this app in use?

RE: dial pad on Apple Watch

2016-11-08 Thread Sieghard Weitzel
Exactly my experience, still baffles me. I'll definitely try out Shai's
suggestion about this app. I hope this is the same for users who don't use
Voiceover. Anna, when your sighted husband had a look was Voiceover running?
Wouldn't it be incredible if there were a DialPad without Voiceover and not one
with Voiceover running? Of course the existance of the app Shai mentioned would
indicate that Apple simply decided people didn't need to press any numbers on
their Apple Watch or may want to dial a phone number manually. I guess you
could use SIRI for this, but that still doesn't solve the problem of having to
dial numbers during a call.

Hello,

I just had my sighted husband call me and answered the call on the Apple Watch.
Neither of us could find either a dial pad or a way to activate a dial pad.
After we hung up, I asked Siri to open the Phone app on the watch. There were
options for Favorites, Recents, Contacts, and VoiceMail, but no keyboard. If
anyone has accessed a dial pad on their Apple Watch before or during a phone
call, please let us all know how you did it.

RE: Quick Question for Apple iOS Beta Testers

2016-11-08 Thread Todd Patkus
Sieghard,

It is you who said it, but it is not my opinion. All I was doing is making a
clear statement that public beta is simply useless. I have no use for them, so
I simply leave them out and press onward.

Not my opinion but simply a simple fact that beta is almost always a waste. No
thanks to these useless beta stuff!

Thanks.

Subject: RE: Quick Question for Apple iOS Beta Testers

Hi Todd,

It's of course your choice and everybody's choice if they participate in public
betas or apply to participate in private betas. I do strongly believe, however,
that beta releases in general are a great opportunity not only to report bugs,
but also to provide feedback on new features a developer has added or is
looking to improve even if said features work just fine without bugs. Sonos is
a good example. For those who don't know Sonos, they make a number of wireless
music players you can deploy around your home to bring music (or other audio)
to various rooms. The equipment is controlled with the Sonos app and Sonos has
a very active private beta community and they release new versions of the app
which include new features which need to be tested and many Sonos enthusiasts
love doing this and giving them feedback on how well things work or what needs
to be improved and also what other features should be added later. There are a
lot of very capable people out there who as a group can greatly help developers
because especially when it comes to Android devices, no developer can have all
the devices that exist in order to test their app on said devices under certain
conditions. Everybody else does benefit from the final release even if the
final release still contains bugs and you may think betas are useless and a
waste of time. Of course it is not for everybody to beta test and that's
perfectly OK, but I have personally approached developers where I wanted to use
and app and found it lacked accessibility and in many cases the developers were
very willing to make improvements which I then beta tested and provided
feedback. When the app was later released with much better accessibility it of
course benefited me, but it also benefited all others who then enjoyed the app
which I helped to make accessible and there are many on this list who have done
the same with apps they found interesting and useful. The Netatmo Weather
Station is one example, it was basically useless until I contacted the
developer after I bought a weather station and found I could not use it. It
could still use some improvements and after the initial work they did the
developer has been less enthusiastic to continue, but it is very useable as it
is now and many others on this list have bought a Netatmo Weather Station and
are enjoying the fact they can have access to indoor and outdoor temperature,
indoor CO2 levels and rainfall amounts and wind speed. Sonos again is another
example, accessibility was sorely lacking and here several others as well as
myself relentlessly went after Sonos and bugged them until they realized that
the Sonos system was of great interest to the blind and in around 2011 or 2012
there was a turning point when the company made acccessibility a priority and
ever since each release has been accessible and even some features which
initially were not accessible like TruePlay tuning eventually were made
accessible.
OK, enough said, hopefully I was able to explain that beta testing, both
private and public, is of value and that everybody benefit from the many hours
beta testers spend testing and reporting issues and providing feedback on new
features. Beyond that everybody is entitled to their opinion and what I wrote
above explains mine.

Sieghard

Chris et al,

I have absolutely no interest or absolutely no need for these stuff.

Apple is not the only one. Freedom Scientific is one of them. They like to
release public Beta annually, but I do not care about them. These
stuff--Apple's Beta and FS' Beta--are simply nothing but simply a big waste!
Beta does not do any good.

Look at bugs still appearing in newer versions. They do not do enough to first
check their versions more thoroughly first to ensure the software work
correctly before releasing them. Instead, they just enhance new features and
then, without adequate investigation, send out new versions filled with more
unwanted bugs to make customers complain!

That is it.

this because this means you can’t use it at all to make phone calls to anywhere
you may have to enter an extension or press a number to reach a certain

companies are not possible with the Apple Watch since so many businesses
nowadays have auto-answer systems where you do have to press some numbers. It’s
not as if it couldn’t be done, after all there is a keypad for entering your
passcode which is basically the same as the Dialpad of the phone app without
the Asterisk and Number keys.

Re: Phone app on Apple Watch

2016-11-08 Thread Shai
Hello Sieghard,
There is an app in the app store called watch keypad which mimics a
dial pad on the Apple Watch. I am not sure how accessible it is, but
if you are interested in a keypad on the watch, then you may want to
try this out in the short term until one is implemented.
As for WiFi capability on the watch, there is no WiFi setting it
connects to the same access point that your phone is connected to when
they are paired to each other. I think that at this point, the watch
can connect to a 2 gigahertz network only and not the 5 gigahertz.
This was true of the series 1 and I am not sure whether this was
changed for the series2. As Anna mentioned, calls on other devices and
Wifi calling have to be turned on for you to receive or be able to
make calls when you are far away from your phone.

Hey Siri works when the phone is on battery, and offline dictation. Is that
right?

companies are not possible with the Apple Watch since so many businesses
nowadays have auto-answer systems where you do have to press some numbers. It’s
not as if it couldn’t be done, after all there is a keypad for entering your
passcode which is basically the same as the Dialpad of the phone app without
the Asterisk and Number keys.

Regards,

Sieghard

Hi Sieghard,

I think Wi-Fi calling has to be available and turned on for you to be able to
get calls on the watch without it having a bluetooth connection to your phone.

Hi, Everyone.
I was baking lemon bars yesterday morning and inadvertently got some
filling on the back of my iPodTouch--it looked like just a little on
the middle of the right hand side. I cleaned it off as best I could
with a damp paper towel that had general cleaning stuff on it.

My speaker volume is significantly decreased. Next time I'll be sure
to cover my iPod with a Ziploc bag BEFORE starting to bake.

I checked the volume settings and everything looks normal. Is there
anything else I can do?

Thanks,
Dani, a little sadder, but wiser

RE: The Updated Gmail iOS App and VoiceOver

2016-11-08 Thread Sieghard Weitzel
Hi Craig,

You can empty the trash/deleted items folder in the iOS mail app all at once,
too. I also never understood why somebody would want to delete all items in the
inbox. OK, I guess if maybe you have a specific address for a mailing list and
you just don't have time to read the messages this wold be a legit reason, but
I can't ever see myself wanting to delete all emails in my main personal email
account or my business account, there will always be emails in there I keep for
some reason or the other or emails I still need to deal with.
Lastly, the native mail app now pretty much offers the same data sharing
capability. You can use the "Attach File" option which is part of the edit menu
in the rotor and this will let you enable iCloud Drive, Dropbox and OneDrive so
you can very easily and quickly start composing an email and attach one or
multiple files to it.
With the exception of that issue where Voiceover may stop for a moment or
longer in some cases when replying to a large thread the native mail app really
is very well done, efficient and nice to work with.

Sieghard

Hello, Carol.

The Gmail app works specifically with Google accounts, and I can't see a way to
force it out of its comfort zone. As to why someone would want to use it, one
might not need the power and data sharing capabilities of Outlook. One might
want to keep Gmail activity very separate from the activity on there accounts.
If for some reason a user had to delete the Apple iOS mail account and had to
start over, and if one of the accounts under the app was a POP3, all messages
might be lost, including those on the Gmail account. Perhaps the interface is
just pleasant to some. There are some handy elements, such as the "Empty
Trash" button. The text explaining the new features of V. 5.0.13 claims that
with one swipe, the entire Inbox of a Gmail account can be cleaned out. I
haven't tested this feature with VoiceOver.

RE: Phone app on Apple Watch

2016-11-08 Thread Sieghard Weitzel

Best,
Anna

this because this means you can’t use it at all to make phone calls to anywhere
you may have to enter an extension or press a number to reach a certain

companies are not possible with the Apple Watch since so many businesses
nowadays have auto-answer systems where you do have to press some numbers. It’s
not as if it couldn’t be done, after all there is a keypad for entering your

Also, I thought the Apple Watch used WiFi, but I don’t see a WiFi setting
anywhere, just bluetooth. Yesterday I had left my phone in the office at my

I'm working on the next edition of getting started with the iPhone, and I could
use a bit of help. I believe I'm right that the 6s, 6s Plus, SE, and the 7

Re: Speak screen in Kindle app?

2016-11-08 Thread Woody Anna Dresner
Hi Richard,

You can start a Speak Screen in the Kindle app by asking Siri to speak the
screen. Since the app doesn't automatically scroll to the next page when the
screen is locked, however, it's not all that useful.

Best,
Anna

Re: Voiceover draining battery since 10.1 update

2016-11-08 Thread Sherrie
I have had some occasional battery issues with my 6S in the last month or so
but have not gone to 10.1.1 yet.

I would wake up with a 100% charge and then get the low battery before noon
even when I was not using the phone at all. Then I would use the battery case
to recharge and that got used up and I had to actually plug the phone in. It
did this for two days this weekend before I thought to reboot. Fixed the
problem for now. I imagine that is what probably fixed it a month ago but I
wasn’t paying attention to why it started working normally.
I really need to remember that rebooting can fix many problems!

It sounded like a battery issue to me (their performance is degraded at colder
temperatures, but it sounds like you had a defective one).

There will always be crashes, I recently went to the Apple Store in Calgary
because my iPhone 6S Plus shut down several times when I was out and about and
when it was a bit colder outside. I keep the iPhone against my body so even
when it’s cold and I pull it out the phone is warm and while I could see it
shutting off when it’s -30 outside and I keep it out for a longer period of
time, it was not even 0 (or 32 as you americans would say). It was a few
degrees above 0, so around the mid to high 30’s) and whenever I restarted the
phone I would barely put in my PIN when it shut down again. Anyhow, I had
iPhones since the 4S in 2010 and none of them has ever done this so I assumed
it was maybe a faulty sensor inside the phone. The girl at the Apple Store ran
the full diagnostic and said she could see multiple crashes and suggested that
it is a good idea to reboot iPhones in general maybe once a week as this helps
to avoid certain issues which may arise when a phone has not been rebooted for
a very long time. Anyhow, I then upgraded to iOS 10.1.1 and the problem of my
phone shutting down persisted so I went back to the Apple Store, explained the
issue to a different Apple Genious and he agreed that this sounded strange and
since I have Apple Care Plus he replaced my phone. Since this was a warranty
replacement and not an accidental damage replacement this didn’t cost me a dime
except of course the time it took to get my new phone going again. Since it’s
been some time when I set up as a new phone I decided to do this. Calgary is
not home so I had brought my laptop and did it at the Apple Store, a very nice
guy at the “setup table” helped me throughout the process since I had all my
apps on my laptop with the latest updates and thought it would be faster to
sync them than to redownload them one by one. Since of course this is not
currently possible with Windows, Jaws and iTunes, the Apple guy checked off all
the apps I wanted and then got the sync going.

Sieghard

Hi Garry and All,
When Kindle changed their app so the status bar no longer shows while you are
in the app, Speak Screen went away.
It only works in apps where the status bar shows.
Perhaps eMailing the developer would be a good idea.
Personally, I now convert Kindle books to ePub and read them in Voice Dream
Reader.
Codex is a nice free piece of software for doing this.

Re: The Updated Gmail iOS App and VoiceOver

2016-11-08 Thread Craig Werner
Hello, Carol.

The Gmail app works specifically with Google accounts, and I can't see
a way to force it out of its comfort zone. As to why someone would
want to use it, one might not need the power and data sharing
capabilities of Outlook. One might want to keep Gmail activity very
separate from the activity on there accounts. If for some reason a
user had to delete the Apple iOS mail account and had to start over,
and if one of the accounts under the app was a POP3, all messages
might be lost, including those on the Gmail account. Perhaps the
interface is just pleasant to some. There are some handy elements,
such as the "Empty Trash" button. The text explaining the new
features of V. 5.0.13 claims that with one swipe, the entire Inbox of
a Gmail account can be cleaned out. I haven't tested this feature
with VoiceOver.

So I was looking at this app and saw that it costs $29. I'm wondering if
anyone out here has it and how well it works? Also is there a podcast of
audio description of this app in use?

What to do about Decreased Speaker Volume

2016-11-08 Thread Dani Pagador

Re: Speak screen in Kindle app?

2016-11-08 Thread Woody Anna Dresner
Hi Harry and all,

I can't find any way to make the screen scrol while Speak Screen is active in
Kindle books if the screen is locked. This is too bad because it used to be a
nice way to read Kindle books.

The screen will scroll while reading iBooks with Speak Screen and the screen
locked. However, When I tried it, VoiceOver would come on and say something
when the page scrolled. So I guess I would have to mute speech when using this
feature. I also noticed that when using Speak screen, there are no playback
controls on the lock screen, as I'm pretty sure there used to be. The Magic Tap
works, so at least it's easy to stop the speaking.

At one point, though, I got into a situation where doing the magic tap would
alternate between reading my book and playing my previous podcast. The only way
I could stop this was to ask Siri to stop speaking the screen.

In short, Speak Screen doesn't seem to be as useful as it was in the past. If
anyone is finding it useful, please let us know how you're using it.

Cheers,
Anna

Hi Harry and all,

I just tried this and had the same experience; the phone didn't turn the page

RE: Quick Question for Apple iOS Beta Testers

2016-11-08 Thread Todd Patkus
Shawn,

You stat3ed that it is my opinion of the beta. Not so. It is simple fact.
Beta is simply nothing. I never bother them knowing new versions will always
have bugs. If you, Shawn, think more, you will understand why I said so. I am
not alone. Rich is one of them!

Shawn, please relax. You sound as if you were blunting at me saying it is my
opinion. I was simply explaining to the folks here.

Just simmer down.

Thanks.

Hi. Best to let the moderators deal with the offenders of the NDA because
they're also offending the rules of this list. So let Mark or Cara handle it.
Todd, that's your opinion about the betas, but I have hope that Apple will
address some of our issues. Not right away but when they can. As for using a
beta on a primary or secondary device, I only have an iPhone so I use beta
software on it. Same with my Mac and Sierra. If I had the money, maybe I'd use
a secondary device, but for now I don't mind the bugs to not use beta software
on my primary devices.

Speak screen in Kindle app?

I'm trying to use Speak Screen on my iPhone 7 Plus with latest iOS. If I open a
Kindle book and then swipe down with two fingers or tell Siri to speak screen,
all goes well until I turn off the screen with a tap on the power button: after
this the iPhone carries on reading only until the end of the current page and

Re: Quick Question for Apple iOS Beta Testers

2016-11-08 Thread christopher hallsworth
Hi

Personally, if I feel the beta is "stable enough" on my secondary devices, I
will put it on my primary. But until then, I keep the primary device on the
working version. For example, in the iOS 10 beta cycle, I put it on my primary
device when it was beta 3 or 4.

Hi Jenny and Sieghard,

I have 6 rows on my iPhone 7. However, if I were to set the display to Zoomed,
everything would be slightly larger, and there would only be room for five
rows. To set this, go to Settings/Display & Brightness/Display Zoom. You can
choose Standard or Zoomed view.

The aftershokz do use a standard micro-usb cable.

Hi Reggie,

No, if an entry in the Recent calls area has been deleted it is gone. As for
the cord, do you mean a charging cord? If so check with Aftershokz, but many
companies use a standard micro USB cable for charging and you can pick those up
anywhere at Best Buy, Walmart, in the electronics section of most drug stores,
Staples and many more.

Have 2 questions.

1. Is there any way to restore recents in the phone app if accidentally deleted?
2. Can I get a replacement cord for the after-shocks headphones and what am I
looking for. The Apple cord does not work.

Thanks for your help.

Re: Phone app on Apple Watch

2016-11-08 Thread Woody Anna Dresner

Best,
Anna

I only have 5 rows plus the row in the dock. Not sure if it is different on the

Phone app on Apple Watch

2016-11-08 Thread Sieghard Weitzel
Hi Watchers (is that a good name to call us Apple Watch users?),

I am fairly new to the Apple Watch. Am I missing something or is there no
DialPad in the phone app on the Apple Watch? If so I really hope Apple will fix
this because this means you can't use it at all to make phone calls to anywhere
you may have to enter an extension or press a number to reach a certain
department etc. Nowadays this means most phone calls to larger and medium sized
companies are not possible with the Apple Watch since so many businesses
nowadays have auto-answer systems where you do have to press some numbers. It's
not as if it couldn't be done, after all there is a keypad for entering your
passcode which is basically the same as the Dialpad of the phone app without
the Asterisk and Number keys.

Also, I thought the Apple Watch used WiFi, but I don't see a WiFi setting
anywhere, just bluetooth. Yesterday I had left my phone in the office at my
retail store and was up front with a customer, maybe 50 or 60 feet away from
the office. I heard my phone ring in the office, but my Apple Watch didn't
ring, it then started ringing as I walked a bit closer, but by then it was too
late to pick up the call before it went to voice mail.

Regards,
Sieghard

RE: after-shocks headphones cord and recents in phone app

2016-11-08 Thread Sieghard Weitzel

RE: Quick Question for Apple iOS Beta Testers

2016-11-08 Thread Sieghard Weitzel

That is it.

Please keep in mind that you should not install beta software on production or

Re: Quick Question for Apple iOS Beta Testers

2016-11-08 Thread Shawn Krasniuk

How many apps/folders on a screen - am I becoming senile?

2016-11-08 Thread Sieghard Weitzel
Hi List,

My iPhone 6S Plus was recently replaced on under Apple Care Plus warranty. I
decided to set up the replacement phone as a new phone instead of restoring the
backup of my old 6S Plus just because it's been some time since I had done this
and I thought it might boost the performance a bit. Anyhow, as we probably all
experience, we sometimes download apps to try and then find they end up in a
folder somewhere or on the last home screen where they rarely get used so I
only put back the apps I know I am using frequently thinking I can redownload
other apps as needed. Most users of course will put the top apps on the first
home screen for quick and easy access so I put 5 rows of 4 apps on my first
home screen and of course I have my 4 apps in the dock. Then I installed a
couple of apps yesterday and while they all ended up on the second home screen
(page 3 as Apple counts since page 1 now is the Today screen) I suddenly
realized I had the Facetime app on my first home page in row 6. I rarely use
the Facetime app since most of my Facetime calls are made to people in my

but in any case, I either must be getting senile or I just forgot that one can
have 6 rows of 4 apps + the dock. I am trying to remember how many rows I had
on my previous phone and thought it was only 5 as well. Can somebody enlighten
me on this? Has Apple somehow added a sixth row with iOS 10.1 or did I just
forget that I always had 6 rows of apps on my first home screen?
I just did a Google search and found a nice article on Lifewire.com which lists
an overview table of how many screens and folders (apps) one can have on the
various size iPhone models and also how many apps can be in a folder etc.
According to this I am becoming senile as it mentions 24 folders (same for apps
of course) + 4 folders/apps for the dock for both the 5.5 inch and 4.7 inch
iPhones. Here is the article:

Audioboom, latest update.

2016-11-08 Thread 'Sandratomkins' via VIPhone
Hi,

Just managed to improve things with my iPhone 6 after a bae/faulty update.
Now, not sure if this is just a coincidence or a lingering problem. I updated
my Audioboom app the other day and, now, I find it will open, but not respond
to VO flicks. The screen seems to be blank, don't know if it is really, or if
it is just VO. Is anyone else experiencing this?

Thanks, Sandy.

If you're a musician who likes to learn new songs and techniques by listening

You can repeat any section of the music at full speed, slow it down or even

Change the tuning or musical key? No problem, Amazing Slow Downer handles that

I don't know if the NDA is a big deal as far as Apple is concerned or
how much trouble you could get into from Apple, but I do know Apple says
the following at https://beta.apple.com/sp/betaprogram/legal

5. Definition of Confidential Information. You agree that the
Pre-Release Software and any information concerning the Pre-Release
Software (including its nature and existence, features, functionality,
and screen shots), the Seeding Tools, and any other information
disclosed by Apple to you in connection with the Beta Program will be
considered and referred to in this Agreement as “Confidential Information.”

6. Nonuse and Nondisclosure of Confidential Information. Except as
expressly permitted in this Section 6, you agree that you will not
disclose, publish, or otherwise disseminate any Confidential Information
to anyone other than individuals who are enrolled in the same individual
seed as you, or as otherwise expressly permitted or agreed to in writing
by Apple. You further agree to take reasonable precautions to prevent
any unauthorized use, disclosure, publication, or dissemination of
Confidential Information, including preventing access to or display of
the Apple Software to third parties. You agree to use the Confidential
Information solely for the permitted uses as set forth in this
Agreement. You agree not to use Confidential Information otherwise for
your own or any third party’s benefit without the prior written approval
of an authorized representative of Apple in each instance. You hereby
acknowledge that unauthorized disclosure or use of Confidential
Information could cause irreparable harm and significant injury to Apple
that may be difficult to ascertain. Accordingly, you agree that Apple
will have the right to seek immediate injunctive relief to enforce
obligations under this Agreement in addition to any other rights and
remedies it may have.

I'm not here to tell anyone what to do or not do with the beta and the
NDA, but I would definitely encourage anyone to read the NDA before they
agree to it and join the beta and make up your own mind as to what Apple
wants you to do and not do. I definitely would not just take the word of
Shaf Patel on this list.

Firstly, the NDA isn't a big deal - you won't get in trouble by Apple
for discussing the beta publicly. Secondly, I use it on my main device

Hi,
Yes I had read that which is what inspired the question. It is quote
logical that Apple would say that as obviously they aren't providing support
one wouldn't think should a major calamity happen. Though as evidenced on

respect that; but I think I'll fall and remain in the camp of those who have

versions,

if one wanted to delete a message from the message index, one would
have to check a checkbox next to its header information and then
press

a "Delete" button. Now, double-tap and holding the button
corresponding to the unwanted message places the app in a "Select"
mode. The user can then move down the list of messages and simply
double-tap the unwanted ones; the "hold" gesture needs to be used
only

on the first undesired message. Then, once the "delete" list has
been compiled, the "Delete" button can be activated. There are
other

ways to get rid of messages, but I don't want to make this message
overly long. There is also an "Undo" button which evidently allows
the user to take back a number of actions. I have not tested this
function yet. Most gratifying is the possibility that the bug which
prevented text editing of the body of a message may have been
squashed, at least if the user is typing on the on-screen
keyboard. I

haven't tested it with a Bluetooth keyboard yet.

Awesome, I'll have to try it out.

New iOS Gmail accessibility is absolutely amazing!

Hello, everyone.

It might be of interest to a number of you that the latest release of
the Gmail app for iOS devices operates somewhat differently with
VoiceOver than did previous versions, and based on the testing I have
done, the app has improved for VoiceOver users. In earlier versions,
if one wanted to delete a message from the message index, one would
have to check a checkbox next to its header information and then press
a "Delete" button. Now, double-tap and holding the button
corresponding to the unwanted message places the app in a "Select"
mode. The user can then move down the list of messages and simply
double-tap the unwanted ones; the "hold" gesture needs to be used only
on the first undesired message. Then, once the "delete" list has
been compiled, the "Delete" button can be activated. There are other
ways to get rid of messages, but I don't want to make this message
overly long. There is also an "Undo" button which evidently allows
the user to take back a number of actions. I have not tested this
function yet. Most gratifying is the possibility that the bug which
prevented text editing of the body of a message may have been
squashed, at least if the user is typing on the on-screen keyboard. I
haven't tested it with a Bluetooth keyboard yet.
