Re: AfterShokz headset question

2021-11-05 Thread Nimer Jaber
but can you switch between two devices without having to turn off/turn
on the devices?

Yes, you can. If you check out the link I previously posted, there are
instructions for enabling multi-point pairing. Once two devices are paired,
they cannot both transmit audio at the same time, but when one isn't being
used, the other will be.

This might sound like a stupid question, but when you listen to music,
books or just a screen reader using this headset, can other people hear
what you're listening to when they are close; on the bus/train for example?

The question is not stupid. If you are in a very quiet environment, there
will be some sound leakage, but not much at all. On a bus or train, there
isn't really any sound leakage. I wear these in the office, and people
around me can't hear anything.

Please, where can I hear how the microphone sounds?

I demonstrated these on a podcast episode a few months ago. The easiest way
to get to the content is to check out the YouTube video, and to skip to
about 31 minutes into the video, as the first part of the video is
dedicated to the Samsung S21 Ultra. The link to the YouTube version is at
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BFKo_RiUUcc

I don't think that is a bug, more likely the way the phone interprets how you
perform certain gestures.

I have this same problem with my SC. For whatever reason the sound goes out and
you hear nothing but the sounds when you are touching the screen.

I have my phone set to turn voiceover on and off with a pushing the home button
3 times.

Most of the times I have to do it several times until I hear it say voiceover
on.

I was hoping that this was corrected with the latest update but it wasn’t. HTH

You may have thought you did a 2-finger double tap, but you may have touched
the screen elsewhere and the phone thought you did a 3-finger double tap.
Another possibility is that your screen is dirty and that can sometimes result
in unpredictable results when you do gestures.

It is rather easy to sometimes do a three finger double tap when you meant to
do a two finger double tap. That extra finger just has to barely graze the
surface to have this happen.

If you hear VoiceOver say Speech Off, that is the result of a three finger
double tap.
That is the only gesture that will do that.
As Holly said, just do it again to toggle it back on.

When you hear Speech Off that mean you did what the phone interpreted as a
3-finger double tap, do the same thing again and you will hear "Speech On" and
then all will be as before.

Hello Everyone,

So I just updated my Apple TV 4K to the latest OS and now the Siri remote mute
and volume buttons do not work.

When I press the Mute button, VoiceOver says, "Mute," but nothing happens.

Has anyone else experienced this?

I am thinking that I am not going to update my Apple TV HD until I find a
solution as I do not want to lose Siri remote volume control on my primary
television down in the living room.

By the way, I can continue to turn my television on and off with the Siri
remote.

I have checked every setting I can think of and I have rebooted both the Apple
TV and the television.

All replies greatly appreciated.

Hello Francisco,

Thank you for the excellent advice.

As it turns out, even before updating my Apple TV, I was never able to control
the mute and volume on this particular television set as it is a bit too old to
work natively. However, I do see strong evidence that using the Siri Remote
Learn Remote option may prove to be successful.

Hello Mark.

I experienced the same issue with my pair of stereo HomePods which are set as
the Apple TV speakers.
I fixed it by switching sound output to the tv and back to the Homepod. If you
are experiencing the issue with the tv, you may want to try these steps with
Airpods or some other compatible audio device.

Hope this helps.

best.

I also use a thermostat that uses the total connect comfort app, works great.
It's my first thermostat that can be controlled through the internet and I

Re: AfterShokz headset question

Hello again,
thank you very much for your replies.
Nimer, you said that the OpenComm headset support multipoint pairing,
but can you switch between two devices without having to turn off/turn
on the devices?
This might sound like a stupid question, but when you listen to music,
books or just a screen reader using this headset, can other people hear
what you're listening to when they are close; on the bus/train for example?

Please, where can I hear how the microphone sounds?
Thanks.

Hello Cristóbal,

I am surprised to hear you say this about the OpenComm. The mic
quality is quite decent, actually, and they are far from being quiet.
I've actually used them to record a number of podcasts on my YouTube
channel, which have turned out quite fine. I also use them daily for
phone calls and, again, they work quite well.

As for muting a call, you can certainly mute a call. You need to press
both volume buttons once, and a call will be muted. Please see
https://help.aftershokz.com/hc/en-us/articles/360053359094-Commands-OpenComm#:~:text=Press%20and%20hold%20the%20volume%2B%20and%20volume%2D%20buttons%20simultaneously%20for,not%20work%20with%20all%20applications.
for the various commands for the OpenComm headset.

Thanks.

Hopefully they’ll improve on future versions as I like the

Hi,

I find the Open Comm head band to be very comfortable, more so
than the band on my Trex Titanium. Just how flexible it is I can't
say for sure as I did not need to try to alter it.

I think the microphone does deliver a better result than other
models. It is at the end of a pivoting boom arm and thus is closer
to your mouth. The boom arm also contains a secondd microphone
which is used to do some noise cancellation functions. This really
helps deliver a clear vocal input signal when you are in a loud or
noisy environment.

Hello Maria,

I am personally a fan of the Aftershokz OpenComm headset,
simply because it is similar to their other headsets,
particularly the Aeropex, with an added boom mic, which
greatly enhances the experience for phone calls. Their last
few generations have included multi-pairing, and this includes
the OpenComm.

Thanks.

Re: AfterShokz headset question

2021-11-05 Thread Dave Clement
Hi,

I have to agree with the others here. I have had very good results with the
Open Comm and those I called all said they could hear me fine. To confirm this,
I called two people using both the Open Comm and my Trex Titanium and they both
said it was much clearer with the Open Comm.

At first, it did take me a bit to realize that the boom actually turns from
back to front. When I first got them, the boom arm was turned back to lay along
the side of the Open Comm. I had to rotate the boom arm to come around to the
front and then all went well. I'm wondering if perhaps you tried them with the
boom arm still turned back on itself. This would have put the microphone back
behind your ear and would have produced a poor signal. Just a thought.
Otherwise, perhaps you ended up with a defective set.

need to try to alter it.

I think the microphone does deliver a better result than other models. It is at
the end of a pivoting boom arm and thus is closer to your mouth. The boom arm
also contains a secondd microphone which is used to do some noise cancellation
functions. This really helps deliver a clear vocal input signal when you are in
a loud or noisy environment.

Hello Maria,

I am personally a fan of the Aftershokz OpenComm headset, simply because it is
similar to their other headsets, particularly the Aeropex, with an added boom
mic, which greatly enhances the experience for phone calls. Their last few
generations have included multi-pairing, and this includes the OpenComm.

Thanks.

RE: Speech problem

2021-11-05 Thread Richard Turner
If you heard VoiceOver say speech off, you accidentally did a three finger
double tap.
Been there, done that, even though I would have sworn that I only used two
fingers.

But, the later iOS builds are way more responsive and it truly seems like
sometimes just a single skin cell can touch the screen and have it react.

It is rather easy to sometimes do a three finger double tap when you meant to

surface to have this happen.

If you hear VoiceOver say Speech Off, that is the result of a three finger
double tap.
That is the only gesture that will do that.
As Holly said, just do it again to toggle it back on.

RE: Speech problem

2021-11-05 Thread Laury, Shawnese (LEO)
I have this same problem with my SC. For whatever reason the sound goes out and
you hear nothing but the sounds when you are touching the screen.

I have my phone set to turn voiceover on and off with a pushing the home button
3 times.

Most of the times I have to do it several times until I hear it say voiceover
on.

I was hoping that this was corrected with the latest update but it wasn't. HTH

Actually, if you hear the message speech off, you need to do a three finger

turns green curtain on or off depending on the state that it’s in when you do
that three finger triple tap. Hope this makes sense.

RE: Direct Touch?

2021-11-05 Thread Sieghard Weitzel
I would leave it on as it won't interfere with anything unless you are in an
app where the developer has designated all or part of the screen to use direct
touch.
It is basically what you get when you enable Direct Touch Typing where the
keyboard area is designated a direct touch area which interprets commands as if
Voiceover was not running. Game developers may use this if they want you to use
gestures in their game which are used to play the game and not to navigate with
Voiceover, e.g. you may have to swipe right in a game for a particular action
so you want this action to happen instead of Voiceover going to the next
element on the screen.
Here is a link which will help to explain it more fully:

RE: Voice Over Help Please.

2021-11-05 Thread Sieghard Weitzel
Janet, do you have a wired headset like the Apple Earpods which comes with the
phone? I f so plug them in and see if you can hear Voiceover, if you can then
the volume on the phone has been turned down all the way.
If headsets work then make sure your phone is unlocked.
Now press the volume button at least 4 or 5 times, then touch the home screen
or do a swipe and see if Voiceover is back.
Another thing you can try as well is to turn the rotor to Volume with the
headset connected and provided you hear Voiceover when the headset is plugged
in.
Then unplug the headset and swipe up with 1 finger a bunch of times. You can't
do this with the headset connected because there are separate volume levels for
headset and external speaker, but as soon as you unplug the headset you should
be able to raise Voiceover volume if that is the issue.
If you plug in a headset and still have the same issue hearing clicks and other
sounds but not Voiceover then Voiceover is definitely muted and a 3-finger
double tap should do the trick.
Turning Voiceover off and back on will also reset Mute, I just tried it by
muting Voiceover with a 3-finger double tap, then I asked SIRI to "Turn
Voiceover off" and I got the reply "OK Voiceover is now off".
Then I asked again to "Turn Voiceover on" and SIRI replied "OK, I turned on
Voiceover" and I had Voiceover speaking again.
If you aren't able to turn Voiceover off with SIRI how do you do this? Do you
press and hold the side button, then let go and ask? If so maybe try to press

Good morning,

Is there anyone on the list that uses the Withings Body Plus smart scale for
weight and overall health management? Due to a recent hospital stay I have
decided that it is time to change my ways and begin to take my health more
seriously, so I have purchased this scale.

The issue I am having with it is that I can’t seem to get any data from the
HealthMate app that you use with this scale.

I just need to know the basics of how to use this scale, and Withings support
so far have not been very helpful. Any suggestions or tutorial resources will
be greatly appreciated.

Thank You,

Is the OpenComm headphones any more adjustable than the Aeropex? My head is

It sounds like the microphone is a huge improvement in these.

Hi,
Thank you so much for this. I did as you said, and it worked like a charm! Out
of all the years I’ve had a iPhone, this has never happened, and I never even
gave this a thought meaning to check the rotor. Although, when I flicked up on
the rotor, it says sound on and I flick up again, it says sound off. I will
definitely keep these instructions.

Thank you again.

So lets find out if your rotor volume accidentally got turned down. make sure
that your screen is on and turn the rotor. Each time you turn the rotor flick
up once. Eventually you'll get around to the volume option and the flick up
will raise that volume if it's all the way down. This bit of advice has helped
a lot of people in the past.

RE: Voiceover problem while using Bluetooth speakers

2021-11-05 Thread Alan Lemly
Mickey,

I’m unable to duplicate your issue. I’m running iOS 15.1 on an iPhone 13 Mini
and have a couple of Bluetooth speakers available to my iPhone. I have some
follow-up questions/comments:

1. When you’re playing a BARD Mobile item and adjust the volume, are you
using the volume buttons on your iDevice as opposed to the speaker itself? Your
original post wasn’t clear and I’m assuming you meant the iDevice’s volume
buttons.
2. Is Voiceover coming through your connected Bluetooth speaker? When I
was unable to duplicate your issue, Voiceover was coming through the speaker
which is my preference.
3. What is the setting of Audio destination in your rotor when you’re
experiencing this issue? I believe mine was set to Default audio but I had an
External audio choice as well. Does the issue continue if you cycle between
audio destination settings?
4. Do you have Audio ducking turned on or off when experiencing the issue
and have you tried toggling it to the other option to see if it makes a
difference.?
5. With your Bluetooth speaker connected, what is its device type setting?
In Settings, Bluetooth, place focus on the speaker name and single finger swipe
down to More info and double tap. A screen opens where you can double tap on
Device type and select between Car stereo, Headphone, Hearing aid, Speaker, and
Other. Neither of my Bluetooth speakers had anything selected on this screen
and I still was unable to duplicate your issue when I marked my device type as
a speaker. I did notice that the Voiceover clicks when swiping on the screen
seemed much louder after selecting Speaker here but Voiceover volume for
everything else was unchanged.

Post back after answering the above questions or trying any of the above items
to let us know if any difference occurred. If nothing changes, I’d contact
Apple Accessibility as has been suggested.

problem. However I did figure out that you can create the problem not only with
bard but with the regular music app also just follow the instructions above an
open music instead of barred.

I’m hoping to find the case ID and report this to Apple today.

Steps to reproduce the problem

Add a speaker to Bluetooth settings.

Go into bard and start playing a book

Use the volume up and down button to set the volume of the speaker you’re
playing through.

While in bard just use voiceover normally.

You’ll find that there are two volumes with voiceover. One of them is the
volume that you set in the rotor and the other one is actually unknown to me at
this point that one is very loud and uncontrollable.

Questions:

One which volume setting is that voice coming from? To how do you control that
volume?

Notes

If you want to change set your system up to be normal again just disconnect the
Bluetooth

RE: exploring a virtual location

2021-11-05 Thread Richard Turner
First, to keep from having to spend $40 for an app that is not simple upfront,
try SoundScape, by Microsoft. It is free.
I’ll post the app store link below and I encourage reading the full
description. However, here is a brief explanation of how to get to the Street
Preview feature.
IN the top left of the screen is the menu, flick right once to Sleep button,
once more to the search field.
Enter your son’s address.
Flick right to the results and double tap on the one that matches.
Flick right until you get to SoundScape Street Preview and double tap.
This app works in stereo, so best to have stereo headphones on or speakers
connected with some separation. If one can wear bone conduction headphones or
headphones that allow you to hear your surroundings, it is great for real life
travel.

After it loads the data.
The direction your phone is pointing will determine which way you are virtually
facing and therefore turning.
Turn your phone to find available streets. Once you want to go down a street
to the next intersection double tap go.
There is an explore nearby button, double tap that, then you can pick all
places or specific categories to get information about what is around,

It takes some playing with , but it is a truly impressive app, especially for
free.
App store link:
‎Microsoft Soundscape on the App Store
(apple.com)

The only other one I know of that has good simulation of a location is
BlindSquare, $39.99
I think it is more complicated but has some very useful features.

Subject: exploring a virtual location

Hi list,

I have an iPhone SE 2020 with the latest software. I would like to use it to
explore a virtual location. I live in Duluth, MN, my son is buying a house near
where he teaches in Chicago. I’m wondering what would be an easy way to do a
virtual explore of his new neighborhood. If I don’t have the right ap I can get
it. Simple and user friendly is always best of course.

Thanks,

Joe Thibault

Re: Voice Over Help Please.

2021-11-05 Thread Gordon
So lets find out if your rotor volume accidentally got turned down. make
sure that your screen is on and turn the rotor. Each time you turn the
rotor flick up once. Eventually you'll get around to the volume option
and the flick up will raise that volume if it's all the way down. This
bit of advice has helped a lot of people in the past.

Try doing a double tap with three fingers.  This turns speech on/off.
You can have VoiceOver running without speech useful for Braille
users.  The fact that you can hear clicks when swiping is indicative
of speech being unintentionally turned off.

Hope this solves your issue.

exploring a virtual location

2021-11-05 Thread jkt4960
Hi list,

I have an iPhone SE 2020 with the latest software. I would like to use it to
explore a virtual location. I live in Duluth, MN, my son is buying a house
near where he teaches in Chicago. I'm wondering what would be an easy way to
do a virtual explore of his new neighborhood. If I don't have the right ap I
can get it. Simple and user friendly is always best of course.

Thanks,

Joe Thibault

AfterShokz headset question

2021-11-05 Thread Mária Orovčíková

Hello list,
Please, I would like to hear your opinion which AfterShokz model is the
best.
Does any model have multipoint function, so that I can have paired two
devices simultaneously and seamless switching between them without
having to turn on/off one device or another?

Thank you for your help in advance.
Maria

RE: Voiceover problem while using Bluetooth speakers

2021-11-05 Thread Richard Turner
If you are not on the beta, just report it through
accessibil...@apple.com
That is where reports for non beta devices go.

Clearly it is no longer a beta issue for you.

I honestly don’t remember which Bluetooth issue this was about. If it is the
volume changes; yes, it still happens some.

Hello Richard:
It’s been a long time but the problem still exists with iOS 15.1.
How do I find the case ID? I’d like to update the report but I don’t have the
beta software installed on my iPhone 12 pro max.
Do I have to install the beta software first if so can you give me the URL to
sign up for it again.
Thank you so much for all the help that you are to everybody on this list.

I use bluetooth speakers and headphones with bard and voice over all the time.
I've never had a problem where voice over is louder then my bard book. I also
have change with buttons off when it comes to volume.

Re: Voiceover problem while using Bluetooth speakers

2021-11-05 Thread Mickey Quenzer
Hello All:
My ability to play through Bluetooth speakers is still acting the same as it
did with previous iOS versions. I am now on iOS 15.1 with exactly the same
problem. However I did figure out that you can create the problem not only with
bard but with the regular music app also just follow the instructions above an
open music instead of barred.
I’m hoping to find the case ID and report this to Apple today.

Withings Body Plus Smart Scale

2021-11-05 Thread blindfaith38
Good morning,

Is there anyone on the list that uses the Withings Body Plus smart scale for
weight and overall health management? Due to a recent hospital stay I have
decided that it is time to change my ways and begin to take my health more
seriously, so I have purchased this scale.

The issue I am having with it is that I can't seem to get any data from the
HealthMate app that you use with this scale.

I just need to know the basics of how to use this scale, and Withings
support so far have not been very helpful. Any suggestions or tutorial
resources will be greatly appreciated.

Thank You,

Scott

Apple Pay Issues?

2021-11-05 Thread dadnthedark
Lately, more times than not, when I send money to someone

Siri will have me confirm the payment by double clicking the side button,
and then the payment has failed. So I try and make the payment again. It
will go through along with the first one which was denied.

Anyone having trouble like this.
