Peggy McMillan
I happened to watch an episode of "Gunsmoke" last night and saw our very own Peggy McMillan (Joanna Moore) on it. The episode was titled "Honey Pot" (1965). She was beautiful as ever and worked in the saloon. She still had that nice Southern accent of hers just like on TAGS. I also saw Hank Patterson playing Hank the stable man on that episode. Hank was the old hobo on the railroad tracks on the TAGS episode "If I Had a Quarter Million" where Barney finds the suitcase with $250,000 in it. Hank is probably best known as Mr. Ziffel on "Green Acres". I think Peggy's husband on "Gunsmoke" was played by Harold Grigsby on TAGS (whose wife is a blonde out of a bottle), but I can't swear to it. It was big! Mr. Schwamp "My wife Doris is a good woman. Nobody can pull a plow quite like Doris." -- Mr. Ziffel ___ WBMUTBB mailing list WBMUTBB@wbmutbb.com http://www.wbmutbb.com/
Peggy (Joanna Moore)
She was a perfect match, in my opinion. I had read that Andy had issues with all the girls he had to be close to. He admitted it was him, not them. He was uncomfortable in romantic scenes. Things must have been different with Helen, obviously. Has anyone ever addressed what a marvelous actor Ron Howard was at such a young age? Thank you for posting this question! I have been a loyal reader of this digest since the mid 1990's and have NEVER seen anyone address this issue of Ron Howard's incredible talent at such a young age. Even when I was about 10 years old I was amazed at his portrayal of Opie. I even asked my father how do kids get to be actors so young. He said their parents sent them to acting class. There has to be more to it. It must be the actor of the boy. Maybe all the Ron Howard accolades appeared before I became a member. He is by far my favorite child actor. Could it be because this is by far my favorite show? Peggy and Andy
I'm not sure Peggy and Andy would have made a good match..Ken Anderson I guess we can agree to disagreeI don't agree with the can't make a Hanky out of a sow's nose or Milk and vinegar don't mix examplesMy oldest sister who came from a farm where although we were not poor we didn't have the things our neighbors had...We watched TAGS on a 17 inch BW TV while our neighbors had color..my dad drove a 1950 Pontiac he had bought new until 1963...But my sister married a well to do nice guy and before he passed away after being married over 40 years they had owned as many as 5 houses and bought a new car every three years...My middle sister married a man who owned a gas station and towing service and are still married after 50 years...My baby sister paid her way through college..and taught elementary school for 20 years..she met and married an in-store carpet salesman, worked on commissionthey have been married 46 years, he now has his own carpet installation business all three have raised very respectable children...I'm not saying Helen and Andy weren't a good match..I'm saying Peggy and Andy could have done just as well and I used the above illustrations and prior one's to prove my point...For whatever reason someone decided Helen was their choice and it worked...But the hanky and sow...and milk and vinegar...aren't the best illustrations based on my proven real life facts...Whatever anyone thinks...We have Helen and Andy..and that's historyno complaints here. vic friskey ___ WBMUTBB mailing list WBMUTBB@wbmutbb.com http://www.mayberry.com/tagsrwc/wbmutbb/
Peggy and Andy
I have to agree with the King of Mayberry, Peggy and Andy were my first choice, then Ellie and Andy. Peggy really cared about Andy and Opie, Aunt Bea liked her too.She and Opie even became blood brothers! Helen got too surly for my taste about the time Barney left the show, her personality changed quite a bit, she was not as patient, snappedat Andy, and was often jealous... not like the Helen we first met. Re: Andy and Peggy
Yes, Victor, I wholeheartedly agree with you that Peggy would have been much better for Andy than Helen for the very reasons you mentioned below. I'll bet Peggy even cooked a mean leg of lamb too (Andy's favorite dish). I met Peggy McMillan (Joanna Moore) once at the 35th anniversary cast reunion show in Winston-Salem, NC in 1995. I got my picture made with her and told her that she should have married Andy. She agreed! She was really nice to talk to. Unfortunately, she passed away shortly after that, so I was pleased to get to meet her while I could. She was Tatum O'Neal's real mother too. But you forgot one other important attribute Peggy had that Helen didn't: her daddy was rich! He owned the RM Grain Elevators in Raleigh and bought her that nice car. Andy wouldn't have to get a second job at the LaunderCoin if he had married Peggy. There was one jealousy between Andy and Peggy when Peggy's friend Don came to down (that hungry buzzard). Wouldn't you know his name was Don? Mr. Schwump Peggy would have been as good or better match for Andy than Helen...Let's take a look at that thing... 1. Both Andy and Helen showed a sense of jealousy toward one another? ? ?Helen (Fun Girls, lady lawyer, Andy's cousin) ? ?Andy ( Bob, and The teacher she worked with,)..There was no jealousy shown between Andy and Peggy 2. Both Helen and Peggy had issues with Opie but they were both worked out... 3. Peggy loved to cook for Andy and Opie, Helen said her husband would have to eat TV dinners 4. Peggy went fishing with Andy and Opie, Helen never did 5. Peggy showed a mother figure toward Opie, Helen seemed to stay at a professional level 6. Peggy sat on the porch and shared time with Andy and Opie, Opie was never included in Helen's time with Andy 7. Peggy even went so far as to become a blood brother to Opie and tuck him into bed... ___ WBMUTBB mailing list WBMUTBB@wbmutbb.com http://www.mayberry.com/tagsrwc/wbmutbb/
Andy and Miss Peggy
I am not so sure that Peggy and Andy and Peggy would have made such a good match. She is rich and Andy is poor. Milk and vinegar don't mix, you can't make a silk hanky our of a sow's nose. From the very time they are born with that gold tooth in their mouth they are different. They even go to Norway to a refinishing school and start hobnobbing with guys with names like Ole and Sven, and then they come home and they are different. They start eating fancy foods like lutefisk. I bet Andy has never tasted lutefisk. I have to admit though that miss Peggy is a really beauty and the the voice of an angel, but that slight overbite might be a drawback too. Even though she loved to go fishing with Andy and Opie she really couldn't even look a worm straight in the eye without saying ich. So I am sticking with Helen. We found out in Mayberry RFD that she and Andy had a beautiful baby that ended up with three Godfathers. So all in all I think things worked out well. Besides I think Miss Peggy was just a slightly bit too good to be true. Remember Samantha Stevens. She had a lot of the same qualities that Peggy has and it ended up there was some witchery in her family. -- Ken Anderson The Mayberry Guru 2906 May Street Eau Claire, Wisconsin 54701 www.mayberryreflections.com ___ WBMUTBB mailing list WBMUTBB@wbmutbb.com http://www.mayberry.com/tagsrwc/wbmutbb/

Josie respectfully declined the autograph request through her parents. Norman Lloyd indicated Josie had a rough time dealing with the breakup in the 1960s of a long-term relationship, not long after which her acting career gradually tapered off. To Orville - I don't think there was the sensitivity to physically-challenged people in the 60s as there is now. laugh out loud scenes / Andy and Peggy song
The song that Andy and Peggy sang on the porch is called Down in the Valley. The lyrics are: Down in the valley, valley so low Hang your head over Hear the wind blow. Hear the wind blow, dear Hear the wind blow. Hang your head over Hear the wind blow. If you don't love me, Love whom you please. Throw your arms 'round me Give my heart ease. Give my heart ease, dear Give my heart ease. Throw your arms 'round me Give my heart ease. Roses love sunshine Violets love dew Angels in heaven Know I love you Know I love you, dear Know I love you Angels in heaven Know I love you. I used to sing this song to one of my godsons when he was a baby and it always calmed him down and/or got him off to sleep. As a matter of fact, when I stopped singing, he started crying. I guess he had good taste in music, even at a young age. LOL Here are some scenes that make me laugh out loud that no one else has mentioned. From Mountain Wedding - when Ernest T meets Andy and Barney for the first time and Andy says That Ernest T Bass is a strange and weird character. Briscoe Darling says Just plain ornery. Barney says He's a nut. And then Ernest T goes running and jumping away.. From The Merchant of Mayberry - When Barney is telling Andy what he would have said to Ben Weaver. He says Why don't you go sit in the grocery store so we can all know you're the big cheese. From Three Wishes for Opie - 1. when Helen comes storming up to Andy and yells at him about how she does not like to go to a PTA meeting and find out that she is engaged to the great Sheriff Taylor. She goes on for a minute and then ends with What really infuriates me is listening to all your friends telling me what a good catch you are. Well, you're not caught yet. And she turns her nose up and storms off. 2. when Andy sees Barney coming and grabs him by the arm and drags him into the courthouse. 3. when Barney, Goober, and Floyd are in the back room at the courthouse with the lights off trying to summon Count Istvan Telecky, especially the part where Barney comes back in the room with the fingerprint set. 4. at the end when Barney has thrown away the fortune telling stuff and they find out that Opie really has gotten his third wish. Good questions Peggy
1. Goober and Flora ever got married? In my mind they did and enjoyed spending time with Gomer and Lou Ann. 2. When Andy and Helen moved back to Mayberry, they were able to buy the Williams house? The white one with all the big trees? If I remember correctly, Opie was living in the house he grew up in, otherwise I'd think the Williams house would be great - if they got the plumbing fixed. 3. Since Otis got sober, he might have started the first AA meetings in Mayberry in the basement of the church? And they added a pool table to give those recovering a new hobby. 4. That Gomer made a career of the Marines? Possibly, then he and Lou Ann retired in Mayberry (everyone just has to come back to Mayberry) 5. Any of the Darling boys ever found a wife? One of them married Idel Bushy (although Charlene wasn't thrilled about it). 6. The Widow Saunders finally married the dish towel salesman? For sure! 7. The Morrison sisters built another still? They spent their remaining years trying to perfect a flower growing machine. 8. They still need a brine tester at the pickel factory? After Otis, no one could compare. 9. PEGGY
I was watching a Walton's episode and I'm pretty sure Peggy was the guest star. It's the one where John Walton goes away to work and stays in a boarding house (season 3). Peggy is the owner of the boarding house. She is quite a bit older of course so it was really cool to see her on the show! I wouldn't have recognized her face, but her voice was still the same. Unless I'm mistaken, I think it was her. I like the color episodes also, but the black and white ones are funnier. My favorite color episodes are the ones with Barney in it. That part on the Tina Andrews episode where Barney thinks the big celebration is for him is hilarioushim waving at everyone! Makes me feel embarrassed for him. There is a cute small town here in FL called Celebration. It's a Disney thing actually. It's like one huge neighborhood with tons of picture perfect houses all lined up next to each other, a school, college, main street shopping center, restaurants, theater, library, a little market, hotel, barber shop, firehouse, and lake with walking trails. I even saw a patrol car last night when we were there eating at a restaurant. This restaurant is like the diner because it has a counter you can sit at. I was telling my brother and dad that it reminded me of a very upscale Mayberry. The neighbors are all out walking with their kids or riding bikes and skating. Some of you who have been to Orlando may know what I'm talking about. It's the cutest town. Peggy McCay
Fellow WBMUTBBers: Just returned from a weekend at the Chestnut Hill Ranch Bed and Breakfast outside Only, Tenn., about 60 miles southwest of Nashville, toward Memphis. TAGS' Peggy McCay, Andy's high school sweetheart from the Class Reunion episode, and and actess whose work has included playing Caroline Brady the last 40 years on the TV soap, Days of Our Lives, was the featured guest at Saturday's activities to help raise money for The Elephant Sanctuary in Tennessee. Since the Bed and Breakfast only had three guest suites -- Peggy had one, my fiancee and I were in another, and Peggy's friends were in the third -- I pretty much had her undivided attention when she was not busy with the festivities. What a classy lady! She is awed by the amount of fan atention she gets from only one TAGS appearance. She said she was specifically requested for the role by Charles Irving who directed the episode. She said it was a one-episode deal, with no plans for a recurring role. She said Andy Griffith was shy about having to kiss her on film, but she told him we've got to do this for the show and they.
